BACKGROUND: In the pursuit of improved clinical outcomes and patient experience in health care, shared decision-making (SDM) stands as a pivotal concept garnering increasing attention, but SDM utilization varies widely, often leading to confusion regarding team members' roles. This study explores knowledge, skills, and attitudes of oncology clinicians engaged in a pioneering educational initiative at a comprehensive cancer care center, aimed at enhancing frontline SDM capabilities. METHODS: Utilizing a prospective cohort qualitative approach, the team conducted interviews with 6 clinicians in a multidisciplinary oncology program who were engaged in an SDM continuing education program. In the program, participants were immersed in experiential learning activities including standardized didactic sessions and simulation-based SDM case role-play activities. RESULTS: Thematic analysis of interview data revealed 5 major categories: 1) perceptions of SDM; 2) training; 3) patient-centered care; 4) challenges and constraints; and 5) leadership buy-in. Participants perceived benefits, including adopting a better approach to integrate SDM into their practice, heightened engagement, emphasizing team collaboration, and embracing a patient-centric care model. CONCLUSIONS: This study underscores the transformative impact of education and training on enhancing SDM capabilities among oncology clinicians and is not intended for generalizability. By promoting a basic understanding and application of SDM principles, practicing clinicians can be better empowered to improve health care outcomes and experience. Our findings contribute to the broader endeavor of embedding practical SDM principles within clinical practice, thereby fostering a more patient-centered and effective health care environment.

BACKGROUND: There is a growing body of evidence on shared decision-making (SDM) training programs worldwide. However, there is wide variation in program design, duration, effectiveness, and evaluation in both academia (ie, medical school) and the practice setting. SDM training has been slow to integrate in practice settings. METHODS: A pilot study of 6 multidisciplinary clinicians was conducted using quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate changes in participant understanding and implementation of SDM in the practice setting. A 2-rater criterion-based evaluation method was used to assess a simulation-based case study role-play program using 7 domains of SDM pre and post training. The authors assessed whether clinicians addressed each of the 7 domains or what fraction of each domain was addressed as part of their simulation case study role-play performance. Focus groups were conducted pre- and postintervention to provide feedback to participants and to understand the clinician experience in greater detail. RESULTS: The increase in improvement in SDM ranged from 17% to 37%, and 7 of 8 domains for which participants were rated showed significant improvement. The areas of greatest improvement were seen in determining a patient's goals/preferences, including risk tolerance regarding treatments (+37%) and values and self-efficacy (+37%). CONCLUSION: The results of this study reveal a significant shift in clinician awareness of a patient's goals, preferences, and values. Postintervention, clinicians began to understand the value of building a partnership with their patients whereby the patient becomes an active participant in their clinical care.

BACKGROUND: How ambulance clinicians (ACs) handle a mass casualty incident (MCI) is essential for the suffered, but the training and learning for the ACs are sparse and they don't have the possibility to learn without realistic simulation training. In addition, it is unclear what type of dilemmas ACs process in their clinical reasoning during an MCI. With virtual reality (VR) simulation, the ACs clinical reasoning can be explored in a systematic way. Therefore, the objective was to explore ambulance clinicians' clinical reasoning when simulating a mass casualty incident using virtual reality. METHODS: This study was conducted as an explorative interview study design using chart- stimulated recall technique for data collection. A qualitative content analysis was done, using the clinical reasoning cycle as a deductive matrix. A high-fidelity VR simulation with MCI scenarios was used and participants eligible for inclusion were 11 senior ACs. RESULTS/CONCLUSION: All phases of the clinical reasoning cycle were found to be reflected upon by the participants during the interviews, however with a varying richness of analytic reflectivity. Non-analytic reasoning predominated when work tasks followed specific clinical guidelines, but analytical reasoning appeared when the guidelines were unclear or non-existent. Using VR simulation led to training and reflection on action in a safe and systematic way and increased self-awareness amongst the ACs regarding their preparedness for MCIs. This study increases knowledge both regarding ACs clinical reasoning in MCIs, and insights regarding the use of VR for simulation training.

OBJECTIVE: To develop the country's first brain tumour surgery lab in resource-constrained settings, for training young neurosurgeons and residents. METHODS: A workshop was developed using mixed-fidelity models for assessing and training a participant's psychomotor skills, hand-eye coordination, and teaching the principles of brain tumour surgery. Affordable noncadaveric models were used to compare and contrast the benefit of each teaching model. Within the existing space for wet labs at our institution, 8 different dissection stations were set up with adequate space for 2 people to work at a time. Each station was equipped with an operating room-Caliber microscope, a lighting system and a camera linked to a screen and high-powered electric drills and basic surgical equipment. RESULTS: Our team was able to develop and use 3D-printed skull models and animal brain models for training in complex approaches and craniotomy. CONCLUSIONS: Surgical simulation training, in a cost-effective manner, provides the benefit of training residents and students in neurosurgical techniques in a safe, controlled environment leading to improvement in skills and technique.

BACKGROUND: The technical complexity and limited casuistry of neonatal surgical pathology limit the possibilities of developing the necessary technical competencies by specialists in training. Esophageal atresia constitutes the paradigm of this problem. The use of synthetic 3D models for training is a promising line of research, although the literature is limited. METHODS: We conceptualized, designed, and produced an anatomically realistic model for the open correction of type III oesophageal atresia. We validated it with two groups of participants (experts and non-experts) through face, construct, and content-validity questionnaires. RESULTS: The model was validated by nine experts and nine non-experts. The mean procedure time for the experts and non-experts groups was 34.0 and 38.4 min, respectively. Two non-experts did not complete the procedure at the designed time (45 min). Regarding the face validity questionnaire, the mean rating of the model was 3.2 out of 4. Regarding the construct validity, we found statistically significant differences between groups for the equidistance between sutures, 100% correct in the expert group vs. 42.9% correct in the non-expert group (p = 0.02), and for the item "Confirms that tracheoesophageal fistula closure is watertight before continuing the procedure", correctly assessed by 66.7% of the experts vs. by 11.1% of non-experts (p = 0.05). Concerning content validity, the mean score was 3.3 out of 4 for the experts and 3.4 out of 4 for the non-experts. CONCLUSIONS: The present model is a cost-effective, simple-to-produce, and validated option for training open correction of type III esophageal atresia. However, future studies with larger sample sizes and blinded validators are needed before drawing definitive conclusions.

There have been few reports concerning simulation drills for the relocation of severely ill or injured patients treated in intensive care units (ICUs). We herein report our experience of one such simulation drill. It is a Narrative method. A simulation drill was performed on a weekday 2 weeks prior to the actual relocation. We selected 3 mock patients. The first one was a severely ill and unstable patient, the second had severe stroke, and the third had severe trauma. After the simulation, the average transportation time was 15 minutes. The simulation revealed that mock patients with a percutaneous cardiopulmonary support system and intra-aortic balloon pumping in a standard ICU bed could not be accommodated in the elevator. Furthermore, working the elevator controls resulted in wasted time while transferring the patients. As a result, the number of people, who controlled the elevator, was therefore increased during the actual relocation. During the actual relocation, all patients were transported safely and more quickly than predicted based on the results of the simulation drill. Most physicians and paramedical staff have little experience with relocating ICUs, so a simulation drill was necessary to ensure the safe and prompt transport of patients.

PURPOSE: Our aim was to develop practical training for laparoscopic surgery using Thielembalmed cadavers. Furthermore, in order to verbalize experts' motion characteristics and provide objective feedback to trainees, we initiated motion capture analyses of multiple surgical instruments simultaneously during the cadaveric trainings. In the present study, we report our preliminary results. METHODS: Participants voluntarily joined the present cadaveric simulation trainings, and performed laparoscopic radical nephrectomy. After the trainings, scores for tissue similarity (face validity) and impression of educational merit (content validity) were collected from participants based on a 5-point Likert scale (tissue similarity: 5: very similar, 3: average, 1: very different; educational merit: 5: very high, 3: average, 1: very low). In addition, after the additional IRB approval, we started motion capture (Mocap) analyses of 6 surgical instruments (scissors, vessel sealing system, grasping forceps, clip applier, right-angled forceps, and suction), using an infrared trinocular camera (120-Hz location record). Mocap-metrics were compared according to the previous surgical experiences (experts: ≧50 laparoscopic surgeries, intermediates: 10-49, novices: 0-9), using the Kruskal-Wallis test. RESULTS: A total of 9 experts, 19 intermediates, and 15 novices participated in the present study. In terms of face validity, the mean scores were higher than 3, other than for the Vena cava(mean score of 2.89). Participants agreed with the training value (usefulness for future skill improvement: mean score of 4.57). In terms of Mocap analysis, faster speed-related metrics (e.g., velocity, the distribution of tip velocity, acceleration, and jerk) in the scissors and vessel sealing system, a shorter path length of grasping forceps, and fewer dimensionless squared jerks, which indicated more purposeful motion of 4 surgical instruments (vessel sealing system, grasping forceps, clip applier and suction), were observed in the more experienced group. CONCLUSIONS: The Thiel-embalmed cadaver provides an excellent training opportunity for complex laparoscopic procedures with participants' high level of satisfaction, and may become a promising tool for a better objective understanding of surgical dexterity. In order to enrich formative feedback to trainees, we are now proceeding with Mocap analysis.

ABSTRACT: Simulation has been shown to improve communication and psychometric skills in advanced practice nursing students. Little is known about the impact of a simulation educational intervention with a faculty-facilitated debriefing on the preparation of novice nurse practitioner students for their first clinical practicum. This article describes the development of an educational intervention to accomplish this. The simulation education intervention was implemented with preclinical nurse practitioner students designed to improve their preparation for their first precepted clinical experience. Students were surveyed preintervention and postintervention to explore their self-perception of confidence and preparation for clinicals looking at six domains: health history, physical examination, diagnostics, differentials, final diagnosis, and plan of care. Quantitative results were statistically significant for each domain. Qualitative findings gave deeper insight into the students' perceptions of how the intervention prepared them for clinicals. Advanced practice educators can use educational interventions such as this to prepare students for their first clinical practicums.

Introduction: Anesthesiologists develop anesthetic plans according to the surgical procedure, patient's medical history, and physical exams. Patients with ischemic heart disease are predisposed to intraoperative cardiac complications from surgical blood loss. Unanticipated events can lead to intraoperative complications despite careful anesthesia planning. Methods: This anesthetic management simulation was developed for the anesthesiology residency curriculum during the first clinical anesthesia year (CA 1/PGY 2 residents). A total of 23 CA 1 residents participated. A 50-minute encounter focused on a 73-year-old male who presents for an elective total hip replacement and develops acute myocardial stunning in the setting of critical acute blood loss and a delay in the transportation of blood products. Results: One hundred percent of the residents felt the simulation was educationally valuable in the immediate postsimulation survey (Kirkpatrick level 1). The follow-up survey showed that 100% of residents felt the simulation increased their knowledge of managing acute cardiac ischemia (Kirkpatrick level 2), and 93% felt it increased awareness and confidence in similar real-life situations that positively affected patient outcomes (Kirkpatrick level 3). Discussion: Our simulation provides a psychologically safe environment for anesthesiology residents to develop management skills for acute critical anemia and cardiogenic shock and foster communication skills with a surgery team.

BACKGROUND: Simulation-based training has been widely used as a valuable strategy for learning and evaluating clinical skills at different levels of nursing and midwifery education. The impact of simulation training on intensive management for high-risk pregnancy in a low-resource setting has been limited. AIM: To examine the effect of simulation-based training with low-fidelity mannequins on obstetrical nurses and midwives' knowledge, attitude, and skills for high-risk pregnancy management in a low-resource setting. METHOD: During September 2023, twenty-five obstetrical nurses or midwives who worked in five tertiary public hospitals in Vientiane Prefecture participated in the three-day training workshops for intensive management in high-risk pregnant women and newborns that used a simulation-based training approach integrating problem-based learning. The evaluated criteria of knowledge, attitudes, and skills pre- and post-test scores were statistically compared. FINDINGS: Workshop trainees demonstrated an increase significantly in knowledge for high-risk pregnancy management (p = 0.012), attitude toward high-risk pregnancy management (p = 0.000), and attitude toward simulation-based training design (p = 0.002). The clinical skills were used on the simulation performance checklist, and the pre-posttest gain in overall performance scores had a statistically significant difference (p = 0.000). The mean score of postpartum hemorrhage management skills was 11.48±2.23, which increased the highest score among all skills. CONCLUSIONS: The simulation-based training in high-risk pregnancy management improves the knowledge, attitude, and skills of nurses and midwives in low-resource settings. Next steps include direct observation of trainees in the clinical setting to assess their competence in ensuring patient safety, achieving positive pregnancy outcomes, and enhancing satisfaction.

INTRODUCTION: The condition of trauma patients and the urgent need for timely resuscitation present unique challenges to trauma teams. These difficulties are exacerbated for military trauma teams in combat environments. Consequently, there is a need for continued improvement of nontechnical skills (NTS) training for trauma teams. However, current approaches to NTS assessment rely on subjective ratings, which can introduce bias. Accordingly, objective methods of NTS evaluation are needed. Eye-tracking (ET) methods have been applied to studying communication, situation awareness, and leadership in many health care settings, and could be applied to studying physicians' NTS during trauma situations. In this study, we aimed to assess the relationship between trauma team leaders' objective gaze patterns and subjective expert NTS ratings during patient care simulations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After Institutional Review Board approval, 9 trauma teams from first-year post-graduate general surgery and emergency medicine residents were recruited to participate in 1 of 2 trauma simulations (a difficult airway case and a multi-patient trauma). Each scenario lasted approximately 15 minutes. All team leaders wore a mobile ET system to evaluate gaze metrics-time to first fixation (TTFF), average fixation duration (AFD), and total percentage of the scenario (TPS) focused on Areas of Interest (AOI), which included patient, care team, diagnostic equipment, and patient care equipment. Trained faculty raters completed the Non-Technical Skills for Surgeons (NOTSS) assessment tool and the Trauma Non-Technical Skills (T-NOTECHS) scale. One-way analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis, and appropriate post-hoc pairwise comparison tests were run to assess differences between ET metrics across AOI groups. Spearman's Rho tests were used to assess correlations between ET and subjective NTS ratings. RESULTS: Compared to other NTS domains, trauma teams scored relatively poorly on communication across both T-NOTECHS (3.29$ \pm $0.61, maximum = 5) and NOTSS (2.87$ \pm $0.66, maximum = 4). We found significant differences in trauma team leaders' TTFF between teammates and the patient (Team: 1.56 vs Patient: 29.82 seconds, P < .001). TTFF on the diagnostic equipment was negatively correlated (P < .05) to multiple measures of subjective NTS assessments. There were no significant differences in AFD between AOIs, and AFD on teammates was positively correlated (P < .05) to communication and teamwork. There were significant differences in TPS across most AOI pairs (P < .05), and the average TPS fixated was highest on the patient (32%). Finally, there were several significant correlations between additional ET and NTS metrics. CONCLUSIONS: This study utilized a mixed methods approach to assess trauma team leaders' NTS in simulated acute care trauma simulations. Our results provide several objective insights into trauma team leaders' NTS behaviors during patient care simulations. Such objective insights provide a more comprehensive understanding of NTS behaviors and can be leveraged to guide NTS training of trauma physicians in the future. More studies are needed to apply these methods to capture NTS from a larger sample of teams in both simulated and real trauma environments.

Background: Performing an emergency cricothyroidotomy (EC) is extremely challenging, the devices used should be easy to handle and the selected technique reliable. However, there is still an ongoing debate concerning the most superior technique. Methods: Three different techniques were compared using a standardized, simulated scenario regarding handling, performing, training and decision making: The scalpel-bougie technique (SBT), the surgical anatomical preparation technique (SAPT) and the Seldinger technique (ST). First, anaesthesia residents and trainees, paramedics and medical students (each group n = 50) performed a cricothyroidotomy randomly assigned with each of the three devices on a simulator manikin. The time needed for successful cricothyroidotomy was the primary endpoint. Secondary endpoints included first-attempt success rate, number of attempts and user-satisfaction. The second part of the study investigated the impact of prior hands-on training on both material selection for EC and on time to decision-making in a simulated "cannot intubate cannot ventilate" situation. Results: The simulated scenario revealed that SBT and SAPT were significantly faster than percutaneous EC with ST (p < 0.0001). Success rate was 100% for the first attempt with SBT and SAPT. Significant differences were found with regard to user-satisfaction between individual techniques (p < 0.0001). In terms of user-friendliness, SBT was predominantly assessed as easy (87%). Prior training had a large impact regarding choice of devises (p < 0.05), and time to decision making (p = 0.05; 180 s vs. 233 s). Conclusion: This study supports the use of a surgical technique for EC and also a regular training to create familiarity with the materials and the process itself.The trial was registered before study start on 11.11.2018 at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT: 2018-13819) with Nicole Didion as the principal investigator.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:  Orthopedic trainees must be able to perform intraoperative fluoroscopy imaging to assess the surgical result after volar locking plate surgeries of distal radius fractures. Guided by Messick's contemporary validity framework, the aim of our study was to gather evidence of validity for a test of proficiency for intraoperative imaging of a distal radius fracture using a novel immersive virtual reality simulator. METHODS:  11 novices and 9 experienced surgeons employed at orthopedic departments completed 2 individual simulator sessions. At each session the participants performed 3 repetitions of an intraoperative fluoroscopic control of a distal radius fracture, consisting of 5 different fluoroscopic views. Several performance metrics were automatically recorded by the simulator and compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS:  Simulator metrics for 3 of the 5 fluoroscopic views could discriminate between novices and experienced surgeons. An estimated composite score based on these 3 views showed good test-retest reliability, ICC = 0.82 (confidence interval 0.65-0.92; P < 0.001). A discriminatory standard was set at a composite score of 6.15 points resulting in 1 false positive (i.e., novice scoring better than the standard), and 1 false negative (i.e., experienced surgeon scoring worse than the standard). CONCLUSION:  This study provided validity evidence from all 5 sources of Messick's contemporary validity framework (content, response process, internal structure, relationship with other variables, and consequences) for a simulation-based test of proficiency in intraoperative fluoroscopic control of a distal radius fracture fixated by a volar locking plate.

OBJECTIVE: Barros et al. demonstrated a 3D printed model that exhibits anatomical representativeness, low cost, and scalability. The model was created based on subtraction data obtained from computed tomography scans. Images were modeled and reconstructed in 3D to display the male inguinal region, typically viewed using a laparoscopic approach. To evaluate the functionality and quality of the anatomical representation of the hernia 3D training model. METHODS: A model was created based on subtraction data derived from computed tomography scans of the pelvic bones and lumbar spine using the Blender 3.2.2 software program. Images were modeled and reconstructed in 3D to display the male inguinal region, typically viewed using a laparoscopic approach. Polylactic acid plastic was used to print the model. Some structures were made using ethylene vinyl acetate to enable possible material replacement and model reutilization. Thirty surgeons with various training levels were invited to use the model. Transabdominal inguinal hernioplasty was performed by simulating the same steps as those of a laparoscopic surgery, and the surgeons answered a questionnaire regarding the simulation. RESULTS: Twenty-eight surgeons responded, seven of whom were experts in the treatment of abdominal wall hernias. The model was deemed easy to use, realistic, and anatomically precise, establishing it as a valuable supplement to minimally invasive surgery training. CONCLUSION: The evaluation of this 3D model was favorable, as it accurately depicted the inguinal region anatomically, while also proving to be cost-effective for training purposes. The model could be a good option, particularly beneficial for training surgeons at the beginning of their careers.

BACKGROUND:  Self-directed simulation learning (SSL) is a globally accepted teaching and learning strategy wherein student nurses take the initiative in diagnosing their learning needs, formulate learning goals, identify resources for learning, and implement relevant strategies in response to their learning needs. This autonomous learning strategy will assist student nurses in taking ownership of their learning. Consequently, student nurses exit the training programme to become lifelong learners, safe and competent professional nurses. OBJECTIVES:  This study aimed to explore and describe the experiences of student nurses' utilisation of SSL at a University in Gauteng and to make recommendation(s) to enhance the use of SSL. METHOD:  A qualitative, exploratory, descriptive, and contextual research design was used to uncover the student nurses' experiences with the use of SSL at a University. Nineteen participants were purposively sampled. Data collection was conducted through focus group interviews. Tesch's method of data analysis was used to analyse, organise and interpret data. RESULTS:  Theme: student nurses experience time constraints, which hinder their utilisation of SSL. Subthemes: (1) a compacted academic timetable, and (2) limited access to the clinical simulation laboratory for self-directed learning. CONCLUSION:  Time constraints hinder the utilisation of SSL, and this challenge threatens the acquisition of clinical skills and knowledge during the training of student nurses.Contribution: Evidence-based recommendations to enhance the utilisation of SSL at a University.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a scenario-based e-simulation (SBES) to address the limited avilability of accessible and practical training for humanitarian public health responders. The objectives included SBES customisation, effectiveness evaluation, and identifying learning-enhancing design elements. DESIGN: A university-based, mixed-methods action research design. SETTING: The study was conducted at an international university's academic centre in Italy, and at a university-based master's programme in Yemen. PARTICIPANTS: The study involved 20 multidisciplinary global health and education experts and 66 international medical and health sciences students. RESULTS: Between September 2020 and July 2022, four SBES modules were developed, implemented and evaluated using a rapid prototype model. The modules, which targeted health professionals new to or with limited experience in the humanitarian field, included health needs assessment, essential health services, communicable diseases and health system. Formative evaluation improved the design and implementation of the SBES, which was found to be effective in the summative evaluation, evident from positive student reactions (the overall mean satisfaction rate was 6.03 out of 7, 95% CI 5.95 to 6.47) and the significant improvement in knowledge scores (p<0.001, effect size: 1.179). The identified effective design of SBES includes overlapping elements among content, strategy and technology. Poor internet access was recognised as a potential barrier to delivering the training in the humanitarian context, highlighting the need to develop an offline version in the next phase. CONCLUSION: The developed SBES met the training needs of the academic institution involved. The study findings will contribute to advancing future SBES training initiatives for disaster medicine and global health. Further studies are recommended to evaluate and address the challenges associated with SBES implementation beyond the study setting.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the impact of simulators on the training of urology residents in retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS). METHODS: The study involved training eight urology residents, using two artificial simulators; one developed by the Universidade Estadual do Pará, using three-dimensional printing technology, and the other one patented by the medical equipment manufacturer Boston Scientific The qualification of residents took place through a training course, consisting of an adaptation phase (S0), followed by three training sessions, with weekly breaks between them (S1, S2 and S3). Study members should carry out a RIRS in a standardized way, with step-by-step supervision by the evaluator using a checklist. The participants' individual performance was verified through a theoretical assessment, before and after training (pre- and post-training), as well as by the score achieved in each session on a scale called global psychomotor skill score. In S3, residents performed an analysis of the performance and quality of the simulation, by completing the scale of student satisfaction and self confidence in learning (SSSCL). RESULTS: At the end of the course, everyone was able to perform the procedure in accordance with the standard. The training provided a learning gain and a considerable improvement in skills and competencies in RIRS, with p < 0.05. SSSCL demonstrated positive feedback, with an overall approval rating of 96%. CONCLUSIONS: Artificial simulators proved to be excellent auxiliary tools in the training of urology residents in RIRS.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the outcome of traditional teaching with hybrid simulation-based teaching for undergraduate medical students. Place and Duration of the Study: Department of Pharmacology, Jinnah Medical and Dental College, Karachi, Pakistan, from June to August 2023. STUDY DESIGN: Quasi-experimental study. METHODOLOGY: One hundred students from MBBS 3rd year were included in the study after taking the informed consent. Participants were divided into two cross-over groups and sampling was done randomly. Group A: (even roll numbers, n = 50) was the control group, taught by traditional lecture on positive inotropic medicines. Group B: (with odd roll numbers, n = 50) was the intervention group, taught the same topic by simulation-based teaching through 5 case scenarios. The teaching of this group was reinforced by role plays. Scores of post-test and retention test were compared by applying the Student's t-test. RESULTS: Students taught by traditional lectures i.e., Group A, their post-test mean scores were 30.7 ± 5.6, whereas Group B scored 45.7 ± 3.3, taught by hybrid stimulation (p <0.001). Retention test (MCQs based) was conducted after one month in which Group A obtained a mean score of 18.8 ± 9 with a passing percentage of approximately 30, whereas Group B obtained a score of 41.3 ± 5.6 (p <0.001). CONCLUSION: Hybrid-simulation-based teaching improved the immediate test scores as well as retention. KEY WORDS: Traditional teaching, Hybrid-simulation, MCQs, Retention test, Intervention group.
