RESUMEN

MolPredictX is a free-access web tool in which it is possible to analyze the prediction of biological activity of chemical molecules. MolPredictX has been available online to the general public for just over a year and has now gone through its first update. We also developed its version for android, being the first free app capable of predicting biological activities. MolPredictX is available for free at https://www.molpredictX.ufpb.br/ , and its mobile application version can be obtained from Google Play.

BACKGROUND: Digital educational technologies in health have been an important instrument for promoting learning, self-care, self-esteem, and security regarding prevention and health promotion actions that lead to changes in behavior, mainly for non-communicable disease patients, such as type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM 2). OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to describe a protocol for evaluating the effect of an app for cell phones and tablets on the blood glucose of older adults with DM 2. METHODS: The protocol will be used to compare the effectiveness of an application for mobile devices concerning the educational booklet in reducing Glycated Hemoglobin in older adults with DM 2 in Primary Health Care. This protocol is part of a Randomized Clinical Trial project entitled Effectiveness of a Mobile Device Application on Glycated Hemoglobin in Elderly People with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: a Randomized Clinical Trial. RESULTS: The protocol was structured in the following phases: (i) sample calculation, (ii) invitation to participate in the study according to the eligibility criteria; (iii) participant registration; (iv) randomization and allocation of participants into groups (double blinding); (v) application of the intervention; (vi) post-intervention procedures (post-test); (vii) data analysis. CONCLUSION: It is expected that encouraging studies on the impact of a mobile application will improve and enhance health education focused on self-care for older adults with DM 2, potentially influencing the local health system by reducing hospitalizations due to conditions that are sensitive to primary care, since health promotion and prevention of DM-related illnesses will be the main focus of the application and booklet developed.

OBJECTIVES: to develop and validate the content, appearance, and semantics of a prototype application for monitoring patients in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery. METHODS: this is a technological development study based on Contextualized Instructional Design. The content and appearance evaluation was conducted by a committee of specialists, and semantic validation was carried out by patients from a cardiac surgery outpatient clinic. RESULTS: the application prototype consisted of 43 screens, validated by 17 health specialists, with content validity ratio and appearance validity index results of 0.86 and 0.99, respectively. For semantic validation, 10 patients participated in data collection, with a total content validity index of 0.978. CONCLUSIONS: the prototype of the "VivaCor PósOp" application demonstrated evidence of content, appearance, and semantic validity, with the potential to stimulate self-care in patients in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery.

OBJECTIVE: To describe how smartphone applications can contribute to the management of epilepsy in children and adolescents. DATA SOURCE: This is an integrative review conducted on the Medline, PubMed, and SciELO databases, based on the descriptors "epilepsy" and "smartphone." Original studies published between 2017-2023 in Portuguese or English that addressed the research question were included. Theses and dissertations, duplicate studies, literature reviews, and studies that did not answer the research question were excluded. DATA SYNTHESIS: A total of 178 studies were located, of which six were selected for this review. The sample included 731 participants (631 children and adolescents with epilepsy and 100 caregivers). The applications allow for the collection of seizure frequency; timing and type of crisis; reminders for medication administration; and information about sleep quality. They can store these data for healthcare professionals, caregivers, and users to monitor the progress of the condition. CONCLUSIONS: The use of applications in managing seizures in children and adolescents with epilepsy shows promising results by promoting continuous and personalized monitoring. Further studies are needed to optimize beneficial outcomes and overcome challenges.

OBJECTIVE: to develop and evaluate the validity evidence of a mobile application to support nurses in the clinical management of sexually transmitted infections. METHOD: methodological study conducted in four steps: analysis and definition of requirements; content definition; computational representation with system design; and coding with testing and refinement. In the first steps, nurses with expertise in the subject participated, and in the last, professionals with education in information and communication technology. Data analysis was performed by calculating the Content Validity Index (CVI), considering the minimum agreement value of 0.78. To confirm the viability of the CVI, the binomial test was used through the R software. Variables with p > 0.05 indicated agreement between the judges. RESULTS: the CVI was 0.98 for content, 1.0 for usability and 0.85 for functional performance, showing that the developed application has high validity. CONCLUSION: it is believed that the IST Nurse® application represents an important technological tool in strengthening evidence-based nursing care. Intervention studies are therefore suggested.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a mobile health application (mHealth) accessible to deaf adolescents, based on their health card, promoting autonomy to the access to the user's health information. METHOD: This was a methodological study, divided into three stages: a questionnaire to understand the knowledge of deaf adolescents about the health card, and development of the application using videos in Brazilian Sign Language Libras, Android Studio platform with Java language, and evaluation of the application. RESULTS: Most deaf adolescents were not aware of the health card. The application has two interface modes: male and female card, with the particularities of each sex. Furthermore, user's data security is carried out in accordance with the Brazilian General Data Protection Law. The application received a score of 85.5 from experts, being classified as "good" to "excellent" in terms of usability. CONCLUSION: The application provides information from the health card in text and video in Libras, according to the selected sex, promoting adolescents' autonomy in accessing health information. Future implementations may include expansion to other mobile platforms.

OBJECTIVE: to validate with experts the content of a mobile application to guide patients with neurological dysfunction of the lower urinary tract. METHOD: methodological study. For content validation, 81 specialist nurses took part. The data collection instrument was designed in the form of an electronic form, and included assessments of the application's objectives, content, language, relevance, functionality and usability. The data was submitted to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, based on the measurement of the Content Validity Index. RESULTS: the overall content validity index of the prototype application was 0.98. The lowest item (0.93) was related to the adequacy of the font size, and the highest module (1) was associated with usability, showing ease in handling the application. The experts recommended correcting spelling and grammar, as well as adding and minimizing information, standardizing language, among others. CONCLUSION: the content of the MeduLar sem Medo ® mobile app was validated with excellence by specialists, and presented important resources for teaching urinary dysfunction control and adherence to rehabilitation. With these results, it is possible to envision the next stages of validation, with application in the populations for which it is intended and incorporation of this care technology into the Unified Health System.

[ABSTRACT]. Objective. To evaluate whether use of a culturally adapted mobile application (app) for adolescents with type 1 diabetes is associated with improved metabolic control. Methods. The Dominican Republic’s National Institute of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Nutrition and the Learning to Live clinic recruited 23 pediatric participants for the study. Blood tests were performed before and after use of the app for a period of 3 months. Based on the user profile, participants were encouraged to use the app’s bolus insulin calculator after each meal. The app included a list of regionally and culturally specific foods, color-coded to indicate a high glycemic index (GI) as red; medium GI as yellow; and low GI as green. The color-coding was designed to assist participants in making healthier eating choices. Results. There were statistically significant improvements in lipid profile. Mean high-density lipoprotein values rose to acceptable levels, while low-density lipoproteins and triglyceride levels fell to the recommended values. The overall quality of life increased, although glycated hemoglobin levels showed no statistically significant changes. Conclusion. The findings of this study suggest that using this culturally tailored app can help young patients with type 1 diabetes to improve metabolic health.


[RESUMEN]. Objetivo. Evaluar si el uso de una aplicación móvil (app) para adolescentes con diabetes tipo 1, adaptada desde el punto de vista cultural, se asocia a una mejora del control metabólico. Métodos. El Instituto Nacional de Diabetes, Endocrinología y Nutrición de República Dominicana y Learning to Live Clinic reclutaron a 23 participantes pediátricos para el estudio. Se realizaron análisis de sangre antes y después de utilizar la aplicación durante un período de 3 meses. En función del perfil de usuario, se alentó a los participantes a utilizar la calculadora del bolo de insulina de la aplicación después de cada comida. La aplicación incluía una lista de alimentos propios de la región y la cultura, codificados por colores para indicar un índice glucémico (IG) alto (rojo), medio (amarillo) o bajo (verde). El código de colores se diseñó para ayudar a los participantes a adoptar opciones de alimentación más saludables. Resultados. Se observaron mejoras estadísticamente significativas en el perfil lipídico. Los valores medios de las lipoproteínas de alta densidad aumentaron hasta niveles aceptables, mientras que los niveles de las lipoproteínas de baja densidad y los triglicéridos descendieron hasta los valores recomendados. Se observó una mejora en la calidad de vida general, si bien no se observaron cambios estadísticamente significativos en los niveles de hemoglobina glucosilada. Conclusiones. Los resultados de este estudio sugieren que el uso de esta aplicación adaptada desde el punto de vista cultural puede ayudar a los pacientes jóvenes con diabetes mellitus tipo 1 a mejorar su salud metabólica.


[RESUMO]. Objetivo. Avaliar se o uso de um aplicativo móvel culturalmente adaptado para adolescentes com diabetes tipo 1 está associado a um melhor controle metabólico. Métodos. O Instituto Nacional de Diabetes, Endocrinologia e Nutrição da República Dominicana e a clínica Learning to Live recrutaram 23 participantes pediátricos para o estudo. Foram realizados exames de sangue antes e depois do uso do aplicativo por um período de 3 meses. Com base no perfil de usuário, os participantes foram incentivados a usar a calculadora de bolus de insulina do aplicativo após cada refeição. O aplicativo incluía uma lista de alimentos específicos da região e da cultura, codificados por cores para indicar índices glicêmicos (IG) altos em vermelho; IG médios em amarelo; e IG baixos em verde. O código de cores foi criado para ajudar os participantes a fazer escolhas alimentares mais saudáveis. Resultados. Houve melhoras estatisticamente significantes no perfil lipídico. Os valores médios de lipoproteínas de alta densidade subiram para níveis aceitáveis, e os níveis de lipoproteínas de baixa densidade e de triglicerídeos caíram para os valores recomendados. A qualidade de vida geral aumentou, embora os níveis de hemoglobina glicada não tenham apresentado alterações estatisticamente significantes. Conclusão. Os resultados deste estudo sugerem que o uso desse aplicativo culturalmente adaptado pode ajudar pacientes jovens com diabetes tipo 1 a melhorar sua saúde metabólica.

OBJECTIVE: to map the scientific literature on the use of mobile devices to develop the professional skills of nursing students. METHOD: this was a scoping review guided by JBI recommendations. Six databases and gray literature were included. The selection of studies was carried out through individual and peer assessment. Data were extracted based on an elaborate script and presented in a descriptive, tabular and graphical format. RESULTS: 264 studies were identified, of which 13 comprised the corpus of analysis. The studies were carried out mainly on the Asian continent. Interventions ranged from one to 12 weeks, with a predominance of the use of Apps. The skills addressed were mainly clinical skills, techniques and procedures inherent to nursing practice, followed by decision-making and problem-solving. CONCLUSION: the studies analyzed not only revealed the potential of mobile devices in the training context, but also highlighted their contribution to improving clinical capabilities, as they offer support for a more dynamic and effective approach to the learning process. The gap in knowledge appears in the still unexplored possibility of integrating different professional skills through a single digital educational tool.

Objective: Community health workers work directly in the communities and are the intermediaries between the population's needs and the primary health care teams. Their work focuses on health education and preventing diseases and disorders, accompanying citizens, families, and households in a particular neighborhood. This study sought to analyze the use of the e-SUS Território application in the work of community health workers in Brazil. Methods: Usability data extracted from Google Analytics from 2019 to 2022 were analyzed, including productivity indicators, number and location of users, and engagement. An overview of the application's main features was also provided. Results: The application is an important work tool used by these professionals, who stopped using printed sheets to record their activities and began recording them in a digital, unified, asynchronous way anywhere in Brazil, regardless of internet connectivity. The application had 425,000 active users in 2022, reaching 141,000 monthly active users in June of the same year, representing 54.8% of all community health workers in Brazil. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the wide and exponential adherence of the e-SUS Território application over the years and the increase in the productivity of professionals who use it, facilitating and encouraging the recording of health information.

Introducción: El vértigo se define como la distorsión en la sensación de movimiento propio cuando se realiza un movimiento normal de la cabeza, para su estudio y categorización por el médico general, se recomienda el enfoque TiTrATE, que determina el momento de inicio, duración, evolución y los desencadenantes del vértigo. Objetivo: creación de una aplicación web progresiva (PWA) llamada TiTrATEapp y aplicarla en los pacientes que acudan a la emergencia en el mes de febrero 2023. Método: estudio tipo prospectivo, experimental, observacional, de análisis comparativo. Resultado: se creó una aplicación web progresiva (PWA) llamada TiTrATEapp, basada en el algoritmo TiTrATE, comparándose el tiempo de cálculo de la aplicación del algoritmo de forma manual y digital, obteniendo como resultado que la aplicación digital es más rápida y eficaz. Conclusión: Las aplicaciones móviles son una herramienta objetiva que ayuda los profesionales de la salud a diagnosticar y a tomar decisiones clínicas de forma práctica basadas en la evidencia científica, la digitalización del TiTrATE permite a los médicos realizar un diagnóstico acertado de forma rápida y orientan a la referencia del paciente a la especialidad correcta y la eficiencia de recursos. Introduction: Vertigo is defined as the distortion in the sensation of self-movement when a normal movement of the head is made, for its study the TiTrATEapproach is recommended for the general practitioner, which determines the moment of onset, duration, evolution and triggers of vertigo for its study and categorization accurately. Objective: to create a progressive web application (PWA) called TiTrATEapp, Method: Prospective, observational, longitudinal study. Result: creation of a progressive web application (PWA) called TiTrATEapp, based on the TiTrATE algorithm, comparing the calculation time of the application of the algorithm manually and digitally, resulting in the digital application being faster and more efficient. Discussion: Vertigo is a difficult symptom to decipher in the emergency room, due to the subjective description of patients and the wide variety of probable causes, the digitization ofTiTrATE allows to rule out potentially dangerous causes, quickly, accurately. At present there are no studies that measure the effectiveness of mobile applications for the study of vertigo. Conclusion: Mobile applications are an objective tool that helps health professionals diagnose and make clinical decisions in a practical way based on scientific evidence, the digitalization of TiTrATE allows resident doctors to make an accurate diagnosis quickly and guide the patient's referral to the correct specialty and resource efficiency. RESUMEN

There is evidence to support the use of mHealth tools for improving medication adherence. Building on this evidence, our study team culturally adapted and translated the WiseApp for improving antiretroviral medication adherence in Spanish-speaking persons with HIV. We are currently conducting a multi-site randomized controlled trial (RCT) to test the effectiveness and sustainability of the WiseApp for Spanish speakers in New York City and the Dominican Republic.

BACKGROUND: Technological advances based on mobile health (mHealth), the field of digital health (eHealth) aimed at managing health services and care and their concomitant transformations, have become increasingly important in the 21st century. In this context, care for individuals diagnosed with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCDs) deserves to be highlighted. The aim of this study is to present the creation, development and implementation of the Telehealth Center of the Federal University of Viçosa (NUTELES - UFV), for the monitoring and management of health care for individuals with Arterial Hypertension (AH) and/or Diabetes Mellitus (DM). METHODS: This study, carried out in 2022 and 2023, involved 374 patients diagnosed with AH and/or DM in the health micro-region of Viçosa/MG, Brazil, comprising nine municipalities. The research aims to describe the creation, development and implementation of a software (NutelesApp) for the collection, storage, management and analysis of epidemiological research in public health, focusing specifically, on the monitoring and management of health care for individuals with AH and/or DM monitored by Primary Health Care (PHC). The parameters collected and analyzed were obtained through a questionnaire applied to patients, consisting of 70 questions, subdivided into 12 classes of questions. The epidemiological survey data was collected using mobile devices and analyzed using computer techniques based on statistical analysis. Once the field teams had completed their work, the files were transferred to servers for general analysis processing, using estimates of means, prevalence and respective standard errors, calculated using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) program, which takes into account the planning variables and includes the basic weights resulting from the sampling process. This study was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee and registered, prior to recruitment, by the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (ReBEC), ID: RBR-45hqzmf (Last approval date: 11/30/2022). RESULTS: The information obtained through data collection with subsequent exploratory analysis of epidemiological data using the NutelesApp software suggests that mobile applications intended for the purpose of monitoring and managing healthcare for people with AH and/or DM should address the variables necessary to support a process of understanding the health conditions and/or disease of the individual as a whole and provide short- and long-term learning. Regarding the results of the survey using the software, the variables of 374 people were analyzed. Majority are female (73.2%) and white (43.5%). Most patients are elderly (average 64 years), with blood pressure levels within the normal range for this population, BMI indicates overweight, AC increased risk for cardiovascular events and CC within the recommendation value. All biochemical parameters analyzed were above normal limits. CONCLUSIONS: The description of the creation and development of the software includes practical examples of its implementation, the results collected and its applicability in real scenarios, presenting determining criteria that can provide assertive and timely interventions for monitoring and managing the health and/or disease parameters of patients with HA and/or DM. In addition, the beneficial consequences of using this application will extend to health units and their respective management, improving the services provided by PHC and enhancing strategies and actions for health promotion and disease prevention.

The eHealth technologies promote parental care practices for preterm infants. Nonetheless, we should underscore the abundant information and available apps and disparities in these resources' quality, usability, and reliability. This article examines eHealth technologies directed at parents to care for preterm infants. An integrative review was conducted across the principal health databases (Capes, EBSCO, BVS, PubMed, Scholar, and SciELO), selecting works published from 2011 to 2022 in Portuguese and English, focusing on the use of eHealth technologies for the care of preterm infants. We identified 13 articles related to information and communication technologies in strategies for educating and promoting the health of preterm infants and their parents and the importance of evaluating and validating eHealth technologies in maternal and child health promotion. Properly validated eHealth technologies can be crucial in supporting parents in promoting health and providing care for preterm infants after hospital discharge, which, in turn, can drive the evolution of healthcare systems and improve clinical practices.


As tecnologias eHealth contribuem na promoção das práticas parentais de cuidado para bebês pré-termo. Não obstante, é notável a abundância de informações e aplicativos disponíveis, a disparidade na qualidade, facilidade de uso e confiabilidade desses recursos. Este artigo objetiva examinar as tecnologias eHealth direcionadas aos pais para o cuidado de bebês pré-termo. Realizou-se uma revisão integrativa nas principais bases de dados da área da saúde (Capes, EBSCO, BVS, PubMed, Scholar e SciELO), com a seleção de publicações de 2011 a 2022, em português e inglês, sobre a utilização de tecnologias eHealth voltadas aos cuidados de bebês pré-termo. Identificaram-se 13 artigos com temáticas sobre: as tecnologias da informação e comunicação nas estratégias de educação e a promoção da saúde de bebês pré-termo e seus pais; e importância da avaliação e validação das tecnologias eHealth na promoção da saúde materno-infantil. Tecnologias eHealth validadas adequadamente podem desempenhar um papel fundamental em apoiar os pais na promoção da saúde e na prestação de cuidados ao bebê pré-termo após a alta hospitalar. Isso, por sua vez, tem o potencial de impulsionar a evolução dos sistemas de saúde e a melhoria das práticas clínicas.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Enhancing women's knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) concerning urinary incontinence (UI) through diverse educational strategies has been a focal point for professionals in recent years. This study was aimed at assessing the impact of the educational application Continence App® on the KAP of postpartum women experiencing UI. We hypothesized that access to the app would lead to improved KAP among these women. METHODS: Postpartum women who had undergone vaginal birth, aged 18 years or above, literate, admitted in a maternity ward, delivered a full-term or large-for-gestational-age infant, and possessed a smartphone or compatible device for app usage were included. Changes in KAP were evaluated using a survey specifically designed for this purpose. The Mann-Whitney U test was employed to compare KAP scores between control and intervention groups, as well as between baseline and post-intervention assessments. RESULTS: Among the 542 women screened for eligibility, 349 were enrolled in the study, with 138 completing post-intervention assessments. The mean (standard deviation [SD]) age of participants was 25.9 (5.8) years. Post-intervention scores for knowledge and practice demonstrated a decline among non-app users, whereas a significant increase was observed among those in the intervention group. Attitudinal changes remained insignificant. CONCLUSIONS: The findings highlight the effectiveness of an app-based educational intervention in enhancing the knowledge and practice related to UI among postpartum women.

OBJECTIVE: Communication between patients and mental health professionals by means of messaging platforms in the interval between synchronous encounters became a kind of asynchronous teleconsultation (AT) whose usefulness and effect on providers' workload have not been explored. Method: Mental health providers working in Argentina were invited to answer a survey exploring the intensity and usefulness of AT, and the resulting overload. RESULTS: A total of 527 responses from professionals working throughout the country were received. As much as 69% of respondents exchanged messages with a mean of 1-10 patients/day and 31% with more than 10 patients/day; 75% answered messages over mobile phones on weekends. While 68% rated these interactions as positive for clinical follow-up, 47% considered them as a source of work overload. CONCLUSIONS: The generalized adoption of AT may require additional self-regulation by clinicians and regular monitoring of overload levels (particularly, among psychiatrists) to make their daily clinical practice efficient and sustainable.


OBJETIVOS: La comunicación entre pacientes y profesionales de la salud mental mediante plataformas de mensa- jería en el intervalo entre encuentros presenciales o virtuales se convirtió en una modalidad de teleconsulta asincrónica (TA) cuya utilidad y efecto en la carga de trabajo de los profesionales de salud mental no se han explorado. Método: Profesionales del campo de la salud mental que trabajan en Argentina fueron invitados a responder a una encuesta que exploraba la intensidad y utilidad de la TA, y la sobrecarga resultante. RESULTADOS: Se recibieron un total de 527 respuestas de profesionales que trabajan en todo el país. El 69 % de los encuestados mensajes con un promedio de 1-10 pacientes/día y el 31 % con más de 10 pacientes/día; el 75 % respondió mensajes por teléfono móvil los fines de semana. Mientras que el 68 % calificó estas interacciones como positivas para  el seguimiento clínico, el 47 % las consideró una fuente de sobrecarga laboral. CONCLUSIONES: La adopción generalizada de la TA puede requerir una autorregulación adicional por parte de los profesionales y un seguimiento regular de los niveles de sobrecarga (especialmente, entre los psiquiatras) para que su práctica clínica diaria sea eficiente y sostenible.

PURPOSE: To assess the repeatability, intra and interrater reproducibility of the DIPA-S eHealth© system for capturing and measuring clinical variables of scoliosis, including frontal trunk imbalance (FTI), sagittal trunk imbalance (STI), and angle of trunk rotation (ATR). METHODS: Patients were photographed using the DIPA-S eHealth Capture© mobile application by family members, physiotherapists, or surgeons. Three photos were taken in each position: standing in the frontal and sagittal planes and in the axial plane in forward bending position of the trunk. The photos were analyzed by three independent evaluators using the DIPA-S eHealth Analysis© software. For repeatability, each photo was analyzed twice consecutively by the three evaluators. For intrarater reproducibility, only one evaluator reanalyzed the first photo from each plane with a 5-day interval. For interrater reproducibility, the three evaluators analyzed the first photo from each plane. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM), and minimal detectable change (MDC) were used (p < 0.05). RESULTS: The sample comprised 262 images (n = 30). Repeatability was excellent for all three evaluators in all three planes (ICC 0.94 to 1.00). Intrarater reproducibility was excellent in all three planes (ICC 0.88 to 0.99). Interrater analysis was excellent for the frontal and axial planes (ICC 0.98 and 0.93), respectively. However, it was weak in the sagittal plane ICC 0.32. The SEM ranged from 0.02 to 17.6 and MDC from 0.03 to 34.6. CONCLUSION: The DIPA-S eHealth© Capture and Analysis system demonstrates reproducibility for use in the clinical assessment of scoliosis through teleconsultations.

Worldwide, more than 5.4 billion people have a smartphone. Based on this, thousands of Apps are being developed, each one with different functions such as: education, communication, organization, home automatization and exercising. The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific evidence available worldwide on mobile applications to promote and motivate exercise in adolescents. It was carried out following the PRISMA. A total of 483 articles were identified, of which 300 were eliminated. For title 247, for abstract 33 and 20 for other reasons, giving a total of 183 articles to assess their eligibility, 158 were eliminated. Remaining 25 articles, 12 for abstract and 26 for other reasons, giving a total of 6 articles included for the study. The use of Apps aimed at adolescents are tools that can help with personal care and health issues in this group.
