RESUMEN

Background: Private universities in Peru still need to implement digital transformation models to enhance the job performance of faculty and staff, achieving consistent improvement in the performance levels of university teachers by deploying technological and didactic tools for students. Therefore, the study aims to determine the relationship between digital transformation and the job performance of employees at a Private University. Methods: The research approach was quantitative, employing a non-experimental, longitudinal correlational design. The technique used was a survey, applied to a sample of 104 employees (school heads, faculty, and a director) from the university on a national level from a total population of 144. Results: Descriptive results reveal that the university has regularly adopted tools related to digital transformation. In particular, it has efficiently employed agile technologies, Big Data, and various technological means, benefiting 90% (52% and 38%) of the staff. The study also showed a high positive correlation (0.92>0.7) between digital transformation and the job performance of staff at the Private University, confirming that there is a significant connection between the variables studied. Conclusions: Therefore, creating an innovative culture across all hierarchical levels and identifying key technologies that add value to the learning flow can meet the needs of an increasingly demanding society.

RESUMEN

The post-pandemic stage covid-19 has revealed overloads, ambiguities, and conflicts of teachers in the performance of new roles in hybrid classrooms that demanded an urgent adaptation, this highlighted the need for priority attention to the mental health of teachers, however, there are still insufficient studies that transcend the diagnosis and are committed to establish proposals for improvement. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to establish a proposal for the promotion of positive mental health (PMH). METHODS: The study was deployed from a qualitative approach; using an ethnomethodological design that allowed studying how teachers create meanings and sense in their work context, an appreciative interview was conducted with an affirmative theme that allowed teachers to expose their experiences that were systematized and processed with ATLAS. ti software. The application of the interview was conducted online through a Google form, during the months of February and March 2023. Three hundred university professors who experienced the pandemic in universities in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru participated, based on a convenience sampling. RESULTS: The results of the deductive phase confirmed Lluch's PMH theoretical framework; however, new nuances or variations have been identified, which must be considered in the complex and dynamic nature of each PMH factor. From there, the results of the inductive phase allowed revealing emerging concepts, that is, new categories that would have the function of improving the PMH factors, which is why they have been denominated: dynamizing nuclei. PMH dynamizing nuclei are adjustment to work environment, soft skills, work-family balance, self-motivation, self-efficacy, subjective well-being, proactive strategies, engagement, resilience. CONCLUSIONS: Finally, with the results of both phases, the creation of an integrated model was generated, which was evaluated by six experts in a round of feedback, who highlighted the relevance of the findings and offered recommendations that were considered in the study. The new integrated model has revealed an interesting association, since it not only legitimizes the PMH's dynamizing cores, but also informs on which specific factor of the PMH these cores have the greatest impact, which has a high guiding value for intervention and improvement based on focused strategies.

RESUMEN

Patient education is an integral part of recovery from a critical cardiac life event and a core component of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programmes. This study addressed the feasibility of a virtual educational programme for behaviour change in CR patients from a low-resource setting in Brazil. Cardiac patients from a CR programme closed due to the pandemic received a 12-week virtual educational intervention (WhatsApp messages and bi-weekly calls from healthcare providers). Acceptability, demand, implementation, practicality, and limited efficacy were tested. Overall, 34 patients and 8 healthcare providers agreed to participate. The intervention was considered practical and acceptable by the participants, who reported a satisfaction median of 9.0 (7.4-10.0)/10 (patients) and 9.8 (9.6-10.0)/10 (providers). The main difficulties in carrying out the intervention activities were related to technology, motivation to self-learning, and a lack of in-person orientation. All the patients reported that the information included in the intervention was aligned with their information needs. The intervention was associated with changes in exercise self-efficacy, sleep quality, depressive symptoms, and performance of high-intensity physical activity. In conclusion, the intervention was considered feasible to educate cardiac patients from a low-resource setting. It should be replicated and expanded to support patients that face barriers to onsite CR participation. Challenges related to technology and self-learning should be addressed.

RESUMEN

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected education systems worldwide and led to the closure of face-to-face education in schools and universities. Virtual education has been offered as an alternative to face-to-face teaching in educational centers. Virtual or online education is a type of formal education carried out with the help of electronic resources such as computers and the Internet.(1) In contrast, face-to-face education, in which the teacher is present in the classroom and communicates verbally with the students simultaneously, is held in fixed physical environments

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The ravages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have affected medical education by losing the tutorial teaching that we carried out in out Institution. METHOD: The strategies implemented through information and communication technologies are described in this article. RESULTS: With the strategies carried out, it was possible to continue with all the theoretical education virtually at a distance, including the daily hospital rounds, the presentation of clinical cases, the remote analysis of laboratory and cabinet methods, as well as the teaching of the physical examination and the acquisition of diagnostic aid methods. In addition, the number of attendants for the weekly academic general session of the institute increased from 100 in-person attendants to 500 virtual attendants (average), with approximately 5000 reproductions of the recorded sessions. The advantages and disadvantages of these new techniques and the challenges for the future are discussed in this manuscript. CONCLUSIONS: Undoubtedly, the pandemic has caused damage to the teaching of two generations of medical students during 2020 and 2021, and we are still afraid that, in 2022, it will persist. Therefore, in our opinion, the medical education implemented by us is not ideal, but, at least, it constitutes a good palliative for the harm that the pandemic caused to medical education.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has radically altered the ways of working, studying, and interacting globally, forcing people and communities to reinterpret their daily activities. This study analyzes the changes experienced by working mothers who began distance studies at an Argentine university during the second year of the pandemic. Results indicated how spaces and time were transformed, and gender inequalities deepened. The pandemic, above all, impacted the positions and negotiations that working mothers managed to establish to continue studying in a virtual university environment. In these cases, conquering time and space for learning is, at the same time, an act of acceptance and innovation as a woman.

This study aimed to test the feasibility of remote delivering a 12-week exercise and lifestyle education program (ExLE) or a 12-week exercise program (Ex) for individuals with prediabetes and diabetes in terms of acceptability, implementation, practicality, and limited efficacy. The programs were internet- or telephone-based delivered, depending on the participants' internet access and technology literacy. Of the 196 individuals screened, 15 were included in the study (internet-based delivery (n = 13); telephone-based delivery (n = 2)). Twelve participants completed the program they were randomized to, and most reported being satisfied with the study interventions (acceptability). Data collection procedures, weekly follow-up, study website visits, and educational materials were proper (implementation), and the adherence rate to study interventions ranged from 24% to 58% (practicality). Additionally, both programs (ExLE and Ex) seemed to promote beneficial changes in functional capacity (limited efficacy). The internet-based remote delivery of the interventions showed feasibility. Therefore, in future trials, exercise and educational interventions can be internet-based remote delivered to individuals with prediabetes and diabetes with internet access and technology literacy. In addition, some adjustments to eligibility criteria, study websites, more accessible ways of recording exercise sessions and using educational materials, and an initial supervised exercise session are recommended.

Abstract This article is an essay that allows a reflection on the elements that made up the training of nursing students during the COVID 19 pandemic, when education had to be transformed, from one day to the next, and radical changes taken: namely, from not having in-person classes to receive the training, that would allow achieving the goals of the professional profile of nursing, to teaching with a remote digital medium, like a computer monitor, tablet or cell phone. The year 2020 will be remembered undoubtedly for the impact it generated on the procedural teaching methodology in Nursing. As university teachers, we face the challenge of training nursing professionals, through the practice of skills, from a distance, in a synchronous mode. Virtual education allowed the incorporation of learning elements in an active way generating information for the construction of knowledge in knowing, being, and doing as part of the skills that students should acquire. Challenges, such as dealing with data consumption with an economic impact, were especially faced during the economic crisis.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Awareness about hereditary breast cancer and the preventative steps to minimize disease risk is lower in Hispanic/Latina individuals than non-Hispanic White women in the United States. For this reason, we developed a promotor-based hereditary breast cancer education and risk identification program for self-identified Hispanic/Latina women, which included training promotores in basic genetics and hereditary breast cancer. This study explored promotores' experiences receiving training and participating in virtual practice sessions as well as changes in knowledge about hereditary breast cancer. METHODS: A total of ten promotores underwent a two-week basic training led by the promotores organization and an eight-hour in person hereditary breast cancer training workshop. Demographic information along with pre- and post-training surveys were completed by ten promotores who participated in the training workshop. Surveys were given to determine changes in knowledge of hereditary breast cancer and genetics. Of the ten promotores, two were selected to lead community education sessions and participated in 6 semi-structured interviews. All interviews and practice sessions were conducted using a virtual platform. RESULTS: The data revealed that after the 8-h workshop and practice sessions, promotores felt confident about their ability to conduct virtual education sessions with the community. Interviews identified key facilitators to success such as a supportive environment, practice presentations, and personal motivation. Learning the online platform was considered the biggest challenge by the promotores, as opposed to learning complex genetics topics. CONCLUSIONS: These results provide further evidence supporting promotores' willingness and ability to provide health education on relatively complex topics. It also offers insight into the challenges of presenting information to vulnerable populations using an online platform and the additional support that is required to ensure a positive outcome.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: An international surgical team implemented a virtual basic laparoscopic surgery course for Bolivian general and pediatric surgeons and residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. This simulation course aimed to enhance training in a lower-resource environment despite the challenges of decreased operative volume and lack of in-person instruction. METHODS: The course was developed by surgeons from Bolivian and U.S.-based institutions and offered twice between July-December 2020. Didactic content and skill techniques were taught via weekly live videoconferences. Additional mentorship was provided through small group sessions. Participants were evaluated by pre- and post-course tests of didactic content as well as by video task review. RESULTS: Of the 24 enrolled participants, 13 were practicing surgeons and 10 were surgery residents (one unspecified). Fifty percent (n = 12) indicated "almost never" performing laparoscopic surgeries pre-course. Confidence significantly increased for five laparoscopic tasks. Test scores also increased significantly (68.2% ± 12.5%, n = 21; vs 76.6% ± 12.6%, n = 19; p = 0.040). While challenges impeded objective evaluation for the first course iteration, adjustments permitted video scoring in the second iteration. This group demonstrated significant improvements in precision cutting (11.6% ± 16.7%, n = 9; vs 62.5% ± 18.6%, n = 6; p < 0.001), intracorporeal knot tying (36.4% ± 38.1%, n = 9; vs 79.2% ± 17.2%, n = 7; p = 0.012), and combined skill (40.3% ± 17.7%; n = 8 vs 77.2% ± 13.6%, n = 4; p = 0.042). Collectively, combined skill scores improved by 66.3% ± 10.4%. CONCLUSION: Virtual international collaboration can improve confidence, knowledge, and basic laparoscopic skills, even in resource-limited settings during a global pandemic. Future efforts should focus on standardizing resources for participants and enhancing access to live feedback resources between classes.

Background: The parental stress levels increased during their children's virtual education season. This makes parents feel overwhelmed by the demands of the parental role, promoting negative feelings about themselves or their children. Therefore, the aim is to determine the relationship between parental stress and dedication to the virtual education of their children in parents from the city of Tingo Maria, Peru. Methods: It is a cross-sectional descriptive non-experimental design study with a correlational scope. The instruments used in the data collection were: The parental Stress Scale and the Questionnaire Dedication to the Virtual Education of their Children, in which 356 parents aged 18 to 59 years (Me=37; SD=7.49) from the Peruvian Amazon dedicated to agriculture participated. Results: Where it was found that there is no relationship between parental stress and dedication to the virtual education of children (rho = -0.096; p = 0.071). However, a highly significant relationship was found between the dimensions of parental rewards (rho = 0.384; p=0.000) and stress factors (rho = -0.270; p = 0.000) with the variable dedication to virtual education with moderate effect size and small respectively. Likewise, significant differences were found between parental stress according to marital status (U= 12056.0, p<0.05, d= 1.703) and children's dedication to virtual education according to age (U=3360.0, p<0.05, d= 1.343). Conclusions: In the parents who participated in the study, the greater the stressors, the lower the dedication to their children's virtual education, and an increase in parental reward increased the dedication to their children's virtual education. Further studies can explore the relationship of these variables in parents with other socioeconomic conditions and representative samples from other regions.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly communicable acute respiratory infection, which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. In accordance with government policies for health prevention and social isolation, the virtuality of the entire education system was approved, including careers with a strong practical component such as health sciences; which led to the adaptation of study plans and programs, as well as the immersion of the use of virtual platforms, generating a discovery of new forms of learning both in the theoretical and practical areas, however, at the same time, certain repercussions were generated in practical and psychomotor skills and abilities; also opening a gap between inequality in access to technologies.

This qualitative study explores the teaching perception of educational changes and health measures brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, within the framework of the "International Exchange of Teaching Experiences" carried out virtually synchronously by the Continental University of Peru in 2021. The information analysis technique was categorization, based on the conceptions of the 15 speakers, who for the purposes of the investigation were considered key informants. By contrasting the triangulation of these findings with the theoretical references, the emerging theories were developed:1). Global health events have a catalytic effect on the institutional dynamics of society. This causality is exemplified in the chronological correlation of the COVID-19 pandemic waves and the evolution in Ecuadorian educational models: initially, the migration to virtuality due to the health emergency, high morbidity, and the fear of dying in the first wave. ; subsequently, the implementation of hybrid education due to the relaxation of containment measures and adherence to self-care measures of the second and third waves; finally, the return to face-to-face attendance in the new post-pandemic normality. 2). The massification of technological use during the COVID-19 pandemic strengthened the scope of digital trust, allowing the development of positive interactions in educational systems, but ambiguous in the health context, marked by the infodemic. It is necessary to promote strategies that link technology and health. 3). The Ecuadorian educational system must have the capacity to face current and future health contingencies, through the strengthening of virtual systems and hybrid modalities, the reduction of technological and educational gaps, the development of teaching skills in favor of educational quality, and investment in safe physical spaces to avoid contagion(AU)

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to analyze the self-perceived general health, oral care, stress, academic environment, and harmful habits of Mexican dental students during the COVID-19 quarantine period. This descriptive observational study consisted of a self-perception survey that was sent to dental students undergoing virtual classes. Five sections were analyzed: General Health, Oral Health, Stress, Academic Environment and Habits. For each question, students were asked to rate their perception prior to, and during the contingency, which allowed a comparison to be made between both times for each inquiry. The answers were collected into Microsoft Excel and the statistical analyses were performed using SPSS v.20. A statistically significant difference was observed between the academic years for the variables: "physical exercise" prior to quarantine, "emotional problems" and "work-load" during quarantine, and "academic efficiency" for both times. A trend towards unfavorable perception in relation to general health, academic environment, and harmful habits was observed among dental students during social isolation derived from the pandemic. It is notable that 1st-year students presented a greater impact on all the variables of interest.

ABSTRACT The institutions of higher health education have faced a major challenge with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. This situation caused a rupture of the traditional training models, characterized by the presence in the classroom, forcing to move towards distance education, known in this situation as remote emergency education. This process of academic disruption determined actions to achieve, even under these conditions, the continuity of the school year, structuring them in two successive stages: the first, with predominance of the principle of non-interaction deposit (shelving or repository), and the second with predominance of the principle of interaction (true virtual space of exchange) (AU).

Métodos: Estudio exploratorio, no experimental y transversal.

Introduction: Teaching through virtual modality was adopted as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 spread. For Cuban medical education, it has implied a challenge regarding the reorganization of study programs. For this purpose, the subject Physiology II was redesigned and implemented in virtual modality, in order to guarantee continuity in the training of Clinical Neurophysiology residents. Objective: To assess the development of the subject Physiology II in its virtual modality from the perspective of the students of the Clinical Neurophysiology specialty. Methods: Exploratory, nonexperimental and cross-sectional study. Through a questionnaire made up of closed questions and one open question (positive and negative aspects), the development of the subject in virtual modality was assessed in relation to the variables subject syllabus, professors' performance, platform scenario, and technological support. Results: The subject Physiology II in virtual modality had a high acceptance by the students. The aspects identified as positive were those related to individual time management, as well as the subject's applicability and structure; while the negative ones were oriented towards internet connectivity problems and the study environment. Conclusions: The successful experiences obtained in the development of Physiology II as a virtual subject lay the foundations for using this type of design in the specialty of Clinical Neurophysiology and the possibility of extending it to other subjects of the study plan(AU)

ABSTRACT Some educational models proposed in higher education are analyzed. The objective of this analysis is to identify the advantages and disadvantages in terms of comprehensive training, mediation by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and contribution to sustainable development. This, because in situations, technologies are incorporated into the teaching-learning processes, but traditional educational models continue to be used, contributing little to the discovery of humanistic and dignifying solutions for solving the problems of a region. In this study, a systematic review protocol is used and includes research, innovation, social projection to promote the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).The following are considered as categories of comparative analysis: the pedagogical approach, recognizing the benefits of those constructivist models; the presence of the dialogical, as a form of relationship between the student and the teacher training for sustainable development, the development of critical and social thinking, among others. The result of this analysis allows us to identify aspects to consider in the construction of an educational model for higher education mediated by ICT
