RESUMEN

Gel permeation chromatography coupled with light scattering (GPC-LS) is among the most common methods for determining the molar masses of polymers. GPC-LS is widely used in polymer science research and has been adopted for many industrial applications owing to its high sensitivity, accuracy, and precision. The determination of polymer molar masses using GPC-LS is an important experimental component of the "Polymer Physics Experiments" course. However, the present GPC-LS experimental teaching content tends to be overly simplistic and lacking in depth. Herein, the original experimental content is expanded and multiple sets of experiments are redesigned: (1) Using commercial polystyrene as an experimental sample, the molar mass, molar mass distribution, radius of gyration, and other molecular structure parameters are determined using GPC-LS; (2) Using two polyacrylonitriles with similar molecular structure parameters, subtle differences in the molar mass distributions of the samples are explored using differential mass distribution curves; (3) By comparing the chromatograms of a series of polyethylene glycols with different molar masses, the effect of molar mass on chromatographic peaks is investigated; and (4) For three different polymers (polyacrylonitrile, poly(methyl methacrylate), and poly(ß-cyclodextrin)), the polymer chain conformations are analyzed using conformation plots (i.e., radius of gyration vs. molar mass). In addition, the experimental teaching method is modified to convert passive learning into active learning, thereby improving the students' self-directed learning ability. This experimental teaching reform will help students obtain a more comprehensive understanding of GPC-LS principles and applications, stimulate their enthusiasm for learning, and improve the teaching quality of the experimental course.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: In order to meet the demand for laboratory talents in the clinical laboratory industry and address the current curriculum characteristics and shortcomings of the teaching mode of "Clinical Hematology Laboratory Technology", we investigated the effectiveness of the bridge-in, objective, pre-assessment, participatory learning, post-assessment, and summary model combined with problem-based learning (BOPPPS-PBL) in undergraduate teaching of this course. METHOD: Seventy students majoring in Medical Laboratory Technology from the Army Medical University in the past 5 years have been selected and divided into two groups with the same teaching content and time. The control group (2015 and 2016 grades) used traditional teaching methods, while the experimental group (2017, 2018 and 2019 grades) used the BOPPPS-PBL model. After class, diverse evaluation methods were used to analyze the formative and summative exam scores of the two groups of students. RESULTS: After the reform, students performed significantly better in exams than before. In addition, the new teaching methods have had a positive impact, with students demonstrating high motivation for self-directed learning and problem-solving abilities. CONCLUSION: Compared to traditional teaching methods. The BOPPPS-PBL integrated case study education model is a relatively effective teaching method to improve students' problem-solving ability and comprehensive practical ability.

RESUMEN

Under the background of engineering education professional certification, the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) education concept of "output-oriented" has been paid more and more attention. The traditional experimental teaching of programming course often focuses on the teaching of theoretical knowledge, and lacks the cultivation of students' practical ability and innovative spirit. Engineering education puts forward new requirements for the teaching mode of program design course. The experimental teaching of programming courses requires further reform and innovation to cultivate high-quality technical engineering talents with good social responsibility, teamwork ability, and innovative thinking ability. Guided by the theory of engineering education combined with the educational philosophy of Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) and OBE, this paper carried out the reform of experimental teaching of programming course among students majoring in computer science and technology and information security. This teaching reform aimed to better cultivate students' practical ability, innovation ability, and knowledge-integrated application ability, considering the course concept, course design, course implementation, and course operation, and exploring the practice of teaching process reconfiguration, teaching content organization, and teaching method integration. This multi-integration experimental teaching reform was found to fully mobilize students' learning enthusiasm, tap into students' potential, greatly improve students' comprehensive practical ability, effectively achieve course goals, and lay a solid foundation for subsequent professional course learning. This teaching mode has been practically applied in current experimental teaching and is widely recognized by students, providing a reference for improving teaching quality.

RESUMEN

This study identified a lackluster classroom atmosphere in advanced biochemistry, characterized by low levels of active student participation in interactive communication and subpar quality of after-class learning tasks. The issues stemmed not only from students' learning attitudes, such as insufficient attention to the curriculum, but also from the course's inherent lack of challenge. Employing flow theory, we optimized teaching content, enhanced course difficulty, reformed assessment methods, and incorporated information-based teaching tools to redesign the instructional process. Through a questionnaire survey, students evaluated teaching effectiveness after implementation of the changes: a majority expressed satisfaction with the moderate difficulty of the course and enjoyment of the classroom instruction, and reported experiencing positive emotional flow. Peer experts commended the course, noting its lively atmosphere and the students' acquisition of both basic research methods and foundational knowledge. The findings will be used to continually enhance graduate students' innovation abilities and sense of achievement through ongoing reforms.

RESUMEN

Introduction: The competency of education is advocated in the 2023 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. UNESCO encourages countries to provide inclusive, equitable, competency education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. Starting from 2019, 12-Year-Basic-Education, a new curriculum, was fully implemented in Taiwan to conform to the competency education strategy. For the teachers on site, teachers' understanding of the new curriculum and teaching practice has a direct impact on the competency of the implementation of this new policy. The main purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between vocational senior high school teachers' competency-oriented teaching, teaching identity and teaching transformation regarding this new curriculum. Methods: In order to effectively expand teachers' understanding of competency-oriented teaching identity, this study put forward 6 hypothetical approaches based on the implicit theory of teaching transformation. The 747 valid questionnaires accounted for 97.1% of the total recovered questionnaires. The reliability and validity analyses, as well as overall model fitting analysis and research model validation were performed on these valid questionnaires. Results: The results of the study showed: (1) With the background of Competency-oriented teaching, teachers' teaching attitude and teaching willingness has a positive impact on teaching identity; (2) teachers' teaching identity has a positive impact on teaching preparation, teaching practice, further study, three types of teaching transformation. In summary, three conclusions from this study were concluded on the aspects of teaching preparation, teaching practice and further study on practical competency-oriented teaching, teaching identity and teaching transformation in the educational field. Conclusion: Three conclusions were derived for the relationships among these six constructs: (1) Teachers with a "good attitude" and "strong willingness" to teach, a "high sense of identification" acceptance and full implement of "teaching preparation" are considered as teachers with a "foresight and a visionary predictive style"; (2) Teachers with a high sense of self-awareness who can fully practice "teaching practice" are teachers with a "pragmatic teaching by example style"; (3) Teachers with a "good attitude," a "strong willingness" to teach, a "high sense of identification" acceptance and who are able to fully practice "advanced research" are considered as teachers with an "empowerment-enhancing coaching style".

RESUMEN

The teaching of radiology in standardized residency training needs a large number of case data to strengthen the subjective understanding and awareness of residents. The database built by residency training bases can meet the needs of teaching to a certain extent, but the conditions of training bases vary across regions, which makes it difficult to achieve homogeneity in the teaching of radiology. This article discusses the application of Eurorad database in the teaching of radiology in standardized residency training. This database is free of charge, reliable, and comprehensive and provides a large number of free reliable cases and images for teaching, covering both common and rare diseases. Moreover, it can also be used to cultivate the English ability and comprehensive quality of residents and help to establish a hierarchical training system for radiology and non-radiology residents, thereby promoting the improvement in the quality of standardized residency training. This article shows the potential value of Eurorad database in the teaching of radiology in standardized residency training, and comparative studies are needed in the future to further prove its effectiveness.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Interdisciplinary science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) courses are a popular trend in international education than can help inculcate creativity in students. Although STEAM courses have been widely promoted in China, they are generally unsustainable because they are merely imitations of European and American courses and lack Chinese humanistic factors; a close integration between disciplinary ideas and thinking levels is also lacking. C-STEAM, which is designed to pass down China's culture, is a form of STEAM education with local Chinese characteristics that are focused on integrating interdisciplinary knowledge with the thought process oriented toward cultural heritage. Methods: In this study, an innovative higher vocational college course with C-STEAM interdisciplinary principles was constructed, with art and design as the framework, and with the integration of Chinese local culture. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to sample 12 learners from a total of 90 students in the experimental class of the C-STEAM course. The study aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of taking a Packaging Design course combined with C-STEAM from multiple perspectives. After the interviews, based on the BAO model, coding statistics and thematic analysis were conducted to understand the learners' beliefs, actions, and outcomes after taking the course, and their plans for acquiring C-STEAM interdisciplinary knowledge and learning Chinese local culture. Results: The integration of the Shangshan culture () into the Packaging Design course proved the importance and significance of adding C-STEAM to the art design course, which helped us understand the specific feelings of students after completing the course and gain a deeper understanding of the changes in their knowledge and skills and their learning effects. Discussion: Integrating C-STEAM education into courses related to art and design is highly warranted to encourage students to apply their interdisciplinary knowledge to artistic exploration and creation. Moreover, to effectively develop a curriculum system with local characteristics, teachers should provide more opportunities for students to explore and learn C-STEAM in the future, and integrate multiple elements into their teaching. In general, a cultural perspective-based interdisciplinary education helps facilitate the creative transformation of traditional Chinese culture.

RESUMEN

In recent years, the biopharmaceutical industry has developed rapidly, creating urgent demand for high-quality, innovative, and application-oriented talents. In the context of "first-class undergraduate education", it is of great significance to reform and explore biopharmaceutics blended learning to foster professional talents who can adapt to the industrial development. The blended teaching of biopharmaceutics course in Hubei University was based on small private online course (SPOC) and ChaoXing platform, aiming to meet the first-class "AIC (advanced, innovation, challenge)". The course strengthened the three phases of teaching: before, during, and after class, and innovated teaching methods actively to achieve curriculum goals, and integrated typical cases organically. In addition, the course improved the discriminative power of assessment by strengthening the formative performance evaluation. Moreover, the course provided guidance for students to improve the learning efficiency through investigating the students' learning behavior and employing the marginal utility curve to analyze the characteristics of group activities. Furthermore, the course also offered students personalized learning guidance based on their career planning. The reform of biopharmaceutics blended teaching has achieved significant outcomes, such as improving students' satisfaction, students' innovation and entrepreneurship ability, and curriculum construction level, thus may serve as a reference for the teaching reform and research of the related courses.

RESUMEN

Food enzymology and enzyme engineering is an important professional course of food science. The course includes the basic theory of enzymology, enzyme engineering technology and the application of enzymes in food industry. Considering the knowledge gap between the teaching contents and the cutting-edge researches, the team constantly adjusted and optimized the course contents to enable students to keep up with state-of-the-art progress by carefully mining the cutting-edge researches. Taking cutting-edge researches as the breakthrough point, we explored the problem-based learning (PBL) teaching model under the guidance of outcome-based education (OBE) concept, and highlighted the importance of the teacher-student and student-student interactions to improve students' enthusiasm and participation. A diversified assessment system was established to evaluate the performance of students in the learning process. The teaching reform consolidated the basic knowledge and expanded the academic frontiers, and fostered students' ability in analyzing problems, designing solutions and achieving team communication. The course may give new insights into the teaching reform of food enzymology and enzyme engineering and other related courses.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Transactional distance remains an important issue in online education, which is an important indicator to evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in online courses and is closely related to the success of learners' online learning. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the potential mechanism of transactional distance and its three modes of interaction on the impact of learning engagement of college students. Participants and Methods: Online Education Student Interaction Scale, Online Social Presence Questionnaire, Academic Self-Regulation Questionnaire and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Student scales were used, revised questionnaire for cluster sampling of college students, 827 valid samples. SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 24.0 were used for analysis, and Bootstrap method was used to test the significance level of the mediating effect. Results: Transactional distance (including the three interaction modes) was significantly and positively related to college students' learning engagement. Autonomous motivation played a chain mediating role between transactional distance and learning engagement. In addition, social presence and autonomous motivation mediated the chain between student-student and student-teacher interaction on learning engagement. In addition, however, student-content interactions did not significantly impact social presence, and the chain mediating effect of social presence and autonomous motivation between student-content interaction and learning engagement was not supported. Conclusion: Based on transactional distance theory, this study reveals the role of transactional distance on college students' learning engagement and the mediating effect of social presence and autonomous motivation in the relationship between transactional distance (and three interaction modes of transactional distance) on college students' learning engagement. This study supports the findings of additional online learning research frameworks and empirical studies to enhance our understanding of how online learning affects college students' learning engagement and the important role of online learning in college student's academic development.
