RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The Myxozoa class is characterized by parasites that have valves joined by a suture line and polar capsules containing eversible spiral filamento and this class is considered an obligate parasite. The genus Ceratomyxa has approximately 300 species described in fish, both marine and freshwater fish, mainly infecting the gallbladder, but also occurring in the urinary bladder. This study describes a new species of Ceratomyxa in the Amazon region for Pimelodella cristata. METHODS: For these analyses, the fish were desensitized by means of a medullary section with the aid of a sharp metallic instrument. With the fish desensitized, the entire body surface was examined under a binocular stereoscopic microscope. The gallbladder fragments were collected and fixed in Davidson for histological analyses and in ethanol for molecular analyses. RESULTS: This parasite was found in the host's gallbladder, with elongated spores in a decreasing shape in sutural view, measuring 1.64 ± 0.6 µm in length and 17.13 ± 2.6 µm in width. The polar capsules had a spherical shape of equal size and measured 1.36 ± 0.17 µm in length and 0.9 ± 0.05 µm in width, and each polar capsule contained 4 to 5 turns. CONCLUSION: Morphological and phylogenetic analyzes denote that this is a new species of the genus Ceratomyxa.

The study of diet is one of the mechanisms by which competition for resources between species that cohabit in the same ecosystem can be inferred. Therefore, the relationships of the indices that measure specialization in the diet of fish species are necessary to characterize the nutritional quality of these populations and the ecosystem's environmental health. Three species of catfish were selected: one invasive (Clarias gariepinus) and two natives (Trachelyopterus striatulus and Rhamdia quelen), with similar distribution along the Guapi-Macacu River, in the Guapimirim Protection Area (Rio de Janeiro). Fifty-nine catfish of the three species were collected in total, along 32 collection points in the Guapi-Macacu River in two periods (dry and rainy) in 2018. Non-parametric statistics showed the partition of resources between species and the influence of abiotic factors (temperature, pH, transparency, and dissolved oxygen) contributing to the selection of available resources in the environment. Diet-related indices-repletion index (RI), condition factor (K), niche width, and trophic position (TP) of the specimens collected-contributed to measuring the nutritional status of each of these catfish species, showing that R. quelen has a relationship between RI and K, tending to absorb and metabolize nutrients faster than other species. In addition, the invasive species occupies a wide range of TPs compared to native species, confirming its feeding plasticity. On the contrary, T. striatulus needs large amounts of terrestrial insects to maintain its poor condition factor. Also, the RI showed direct influences of abiotic variables, with the temperature being the most prominent. Our results suggest that the invasive species can benefit from this environment that shows signs of environmental degradation.

Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are embryonic pluripotent cells that can differentiate into spermatogonia and oogonia, and therefore, PGCs are a genetic source for germplasm conservation through cryobanking and the generation of germline chimeras. The knowledge of PGC migration routes is essential for transplantation studies. In this work, the mRNA synthesized from the ddx4 3'UTR sequence of Pseudopimelodus mangurus, in fusion with gfp or dsred, was microinjected into zygotes of three neotropical species (P. mangurus, Astyanax altiparanae, and Prochilodus lineatus) for PGC labeling. Visualization of labeled PGCs was achieved by fluorescence microscopy during embryonic development. In addition, ddx4 and dnd1 expressions were evaluated during embryonic development, larvae, and adult tissues of P. mangurus, to validate their use as a PGC marker. As a result, the effective identification of presumptive PGCs was obtained. DsRed-positive PGC of P. mangurus was observed in the hatching stage, GFP-positive PGC of A. altiparanae in the gastrula stage, and GFP-positive PGCs from P. lineatus were identified at the segmentation stage, with representative labeling percentages of 29% and 16% in A. altiparanae and P. lineatus, respectively. The expression of ddx4 and dnd1 of P. mangurus confirmed the specificity of these genes in germ cells. These results point to the functionality of the P. mangurus ddx4 3'UTR sequence as a PGC marker, demonstrating that PGC labeling was more efficient in A. altiparanae and P. lineatus. The procedures used to identify PGCs in P. mangurus consolidate the first step for generating germinal chimeras as a conservation action of P. mangurus.

The plecos (Loricariidae) fish represent a great model for cytogenetic investigations due to their variety of karyotypes, including diploid and polyploid genomes, and different types of sex chromosomes. In this study we investigate Transancistrus santarosensis a rare loricariid endemic to Ecuador, integrating cytogenetic methods with specimens' molecular identification by mtDNA, to describe the the species karyotype. We aim to verify whether sex chromosomes are cytologically identifiable and if they are associated with the accumulation of repetitive sequences present in other species of the family. The analysis of the karyotype (2n = 54 chromosomes) excludes recent centric fusion and pericentromeric inversion and suggests the presence of a ZZ/ZW sex chromosome system at an early stage of differentiation: the W chromosome is degenerated but is not characterized by the presence of differential sex-specific repetitive DNAs. Data indicate that although T. santarosensis has retained the ancestral diploid number of Loricariidae, it accumulated heterochromatin and shows non-syntenic ribosomal genes localization, chromosomal traits considered apomorphic in the family.

Cucullanus pinnai has been divided in two subspecies (C. pinnai pinnai and C. pinnai pterodorasi) based on the morphology of oesophastome. While C. pinnai pinnai apparently shows low host specificity and broad geographic occurrence, with certain morphological variations, C. pinnai pterodorasi was reported once, parasitizing Pterodoras granulosus. We used an integrative taxonomic approach to evaluate whether or not populations of C. pinnai pinnai from Trychomycterus spegazzinii (Escoipe River, Argentina) and Pimelodus fur (Miranda River, Brazil), and of C. pinnai pterodorasi from Pterodoras granulosus (Miranda River, Brazil) are conspecific. Parasites were observed using light microscopy and genetically characterized based on partial sequences of the 18S and 28S rDNA, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, and COI mtDNA. Phylogenies were reconstructed and the Generalized Mixed Yule Coalescent (GMYC), Poisson Tree Process (bPTP), and Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery (ABGD) were used for species delimitation purposes. The present samples formed well-supported monophyletic assemblages, corroborating in part the results of morphological analyses; however, they grouped according to geographic origin. Species delimitation suggested conspecificity of C. pinnai pinnai with C. pinnai pterodorasi from Brazil; consequently, the morphology of oesophastome may be an intraspecific variation. Results also indicated that C. pinnai may represent a species complex as samples from Argentina were suggestive of an independent specific entity. However, definitive affirmations are premature, since there is no autapomorphy for separating C. pinnai from Brazil and Argentina and sampling was limited to three host species from two river basins. The phylogenetic reconstructions also confirmed the artificiality of some genera within Cucullanidae.

RESUMEN

A new species of Parotocinclus is described from lower rio Pardo basin, Bahia, Brazil. The new species differs from the majority of its congeners by the presence of a rudimentary or vestigial adipose fin, restricted to one to three small unpaired plates on the typical location of the fin. The new species differs from congeners that lack a well-developed adipose fin, and also from various other congeners, by a series of features including the absence of unicuspid accessory teeth and abdomen completely covered by plates similar in size. Additionally, mature males of the new species possess hypertrophied and a higher number of olfactory lamellae, when compared to similar-sized or even larger females. Hypertrophied and higher number of olfactory lamellae in males is shared with the congeners from the north-eastern Mata Atlântica freshwater ecoregion examined to the feature.

PURPOSE: To report a new species: Sprentascaris pampayensis, a Raphidascarididae parasite from the Neotropical region. METHODS: During a parasitological survey, specimens were collected of a new species of Sprentascaris from Hypostomus commersoni Valenciennes from urban lakes in Santa Fe City, Santa Fe Province, in the Pampean region of Argentina. Morphological and morphometric descriptions, and molecular analyses were performed. RESULTS: The new species, S. pampayensis n. sp., is characterized by having slightly extended lateral wings in both sexes, oral structure with three well-developed lips with double papillae, ventrolateral lips with an amphidial pore. Triangular buccal opening with three well-developed lips with flattened extensions at their bases, which end in a pointed manner towards the back. Males have 17 pairs of preanal papillae, 1 pair of adanal papillae, 3 pairs of postanal papillae and 1odd median postanal papilla located between the first and second pairs, unusual shape of caudal papillae with the central tubular part conspicuously elevated. Females have pre-equatorial vulva, smooth-shelled eggs, and mature embryonated eggs. DISCUSSION: Sprentascaris pampayensis n. sp. differs morphologically and genetically from S. manherti Petter and Cassone, 1984, S. lanfrediae Melo, Santos, Giese, Santos and Santos, 2011 and S. andersoni Malta, Paiva, Elisei, Tavares and Pereira, 2018. Morphological and morphometric comparison also distinguishes it from S. pimelodi Petter and Cassone, 1984, S. hypostomi Petter and Cassone, 1984, S. marano Ramallo, 2009, and S. saltaensis Ailán-Choke, Ramallo and Davies, 2017. Sprentascaris pampayensis n. sp. is a new parasitic nematode of Hypostomus commersoni.

PURPOSE: Members of the genus Kudoa Meglitsch, 1947 are known to infect the muscles of commercially important fishes worldwide, including those in the order Siluriformes. This paper describes the occurrence of a new species of Kudoa in the catfish Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii based on morphological study and molecular analysis of the ribosomal RNA gene (SSU rDNA). METHODS: Fifteen specimens of Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii were purchased from fishing zones near Mosqueiro Island, Belém, Pará, Brazil. After necropsy, tissue samples and cysts were analyzed using a stereomicroscope, and fresh slides were viewed under a light microscope to confirm parasitic infection. The tissue fragments were removed and processed for molecular and histological analyses. RESULTS: Microscopic pseudocysts were found in the epaxial region of skeletal muscle fibers in 80% of the analyzed specimens. The myxospores were quadrangular with four shell valves (SV), pyriform polar capsules (PC), and internal symmetry. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that the new species formed a cluster with the species previously described in the Amazon, being close to two freshwater species. CONCLUSIONS: Morphological differences and molecular data of SSU rDNA support that Kudoa rousseauxii n. sp. is a new species that infects B. rousseauxii, a freshwater fish with intense migratory cycles that is widely captured and consumed in the Amazon.

Hypostomus commersoni is a freshwater fish, native to the Paraná River basin, which plays an important role in trophic networks of this system. This study aimed at analyzing the structure of the endohelminth community of H. commersoni from two shallow lagoons in the municipality of Santa Fe, Argentina. In the 51 hosts analyzed, 2103 helminths were found. Hosts from Belgrano Park lagoon were infested with Genarchella genarchella, Saccocoelioides nanii, Raphidascaris (Sprentascaris) sp., and Gorytocephalus elongorchi. Hosts from the Western Urban Nature Reserve lagoon were infested with Thometrema magnifica, Procamallanus (Procamallanus) annipetterae, Raphidascaris (Sprentascaris) sp., Gorytocephalus elongorchi, and Proteocephalidae spp. In both host populations, the prevalence of some parasites was high, and species richness and diversity of component communities were low. The distribution pattern of helminth was aggregated in all cases. No correlation was found between the length of the host and the richness and abundance of endoparasites. The total number of parasites and the specific richness per host in both lagoons did not differ significantly. The findings on G. genarchella, P. (P.) annipetterae, G. elongorchi, and Proteocephalidae spp. were the first records in his host.(AU)

Among the catfish, the Amazonian Jundiá (Leiarius marmoratus) is a robust candidate, easy to grow and with good organoleptic characteristics in its flesh. For productive success in captivity, it is necessary to consider some questions about the species, such as genetic variability, which must have an acceptable level in a breeding stock, in order to maintain a good diversity; this reduces losses due to inbreeding and low diversity. Therefore, the objective of this study was to characterize the genetic variability of commercial stocks of L. marmoratus from the State of Mato Grosso through microsatellite molecular markers. We analyzed 143 individuals from three stocks. The mean heterozygosity and the inbreeding coefficients observed were 0.060; 0.084; 0.141; and 0.539; 0.562; 0.514, respectively, for the stocks of Campo Verde, Juína, and Nova Mutum. The Deviation in the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was observed in most of the loci in the three populations. Considering the genetic differentiation, it is concluded that the three populations are very close genetically, which requires introduction of new genetic material in the stocks to enrich them genetically for a later reproductive program.(AU)

We assessed the flood pulse effect on the diet composition, trophic niche breadth, and the amount of food intake of two Amazonian auchenipterids with different feeding strategies. Sampling was carried out quarterly (from April/2012 to January/2014) on the middle Xingu River, using gillnets. We measured specimens for standard length and total weight. The specimens' stomachs were removed, weighed, and had their contents identified. We analyzed 360 stomachs of Auchenipterus nuchalis and 584 of Tocantinsia piresi. The diet of A. nuchalis was mainly composed of aquatic insects and crustaceans, while T. piresi fed on fruits and seeds. The diet composition of both species varied seasonally, but only T. piresi changed its trophic niche breadth in response to hydrological changes, becoming more specialist during the higher water periods (filling and flood). Both species also showed differences in their amount of food intake between hydrological periods, with A. nuchalis feeding more intensely in lower water periods (ebb and dry), while T. piresi in the higher water periods. We evidenced different responses to the hydrological periods for the related species. We emphasize that studies considering the relationship between flood pulse and feeding ecology of the organisms are essential to understanding river floodplain systems' dynamics.(AU)


Avaliamos o efeito do pulso de inundação na composição da dieta, amplitude de nicho trófico e quantidade de alimento ingerido de dois auchenipterídeos amazônicos com diferentes estratégias alimentares. Os espécimes foram amostrados trimestralmente entre abril/2012 e janeiro/2014 no médio rio Xingu, utilizando malhadeiras. Estes foram mensurados quanto ao comprimento padrão e peso total. Os estômagos dos espécimes foram removidos, pesados e seu conteúdo identificado. Analisamos 360 estômagos de Auchenipterus nuchalis e 584 de Tocantinsia piresi. A dieta de A. nuchalis foi predominantemente composta por insetos aquáticos e crustáceos, enquanto para T. piresi frutos e sementes predominaram. A composição da dieta de ambas as espécies variou sazonalmente, mas apenas para T. piresi a amplitude de nicho trófico variou entre períodos hidrológicos, sendo mais especialista nos períodos de águas altas (enchente e cheia). Ambas as espécies diferiram na quantidade de alimento ingerido entre os períodos hidrológicos, sendo maior para A. nuchalis nos períodos de águas baixas (vazante e seca) e para T. piresi nos períodos de águas altas. Evidenciamos diferentes respostas à variação hidrológica pelas espécies. Enfatizamos que estudos considerando a relação entre a dinâmica do pulso de inundação e a ecologia alimentar dos organismos é fundamental para um melhor entendimento da dinâmica das planícies de inundação.(AU)

RESUMEN

Abstract: A new species of Phanerothecium Kritsky & Thatcher, 1977 (Oogyrodactylidae Harris, 1983) is described from locariid fish from southeast Brazil. Phanerothecium macrosomum n. sp. (Oogyrodactylidae) is described from the body surface of Hypostomus regani (Ihering, 1905) (Loricariidae). It is characterized by an armed male copulatory organ containing spines of different size from proximal to distal extremity, short peduncle and robust haptor.


Resumo: Uma nova espécie de Phanerothecium Kritsky & Thatcher, 1977 (Oogyrodactylidae Harris, 1983) é descrita em peixes locariídeos do sudeste do Brasil. Phanerothecium macrosomum sp. n. (Oogyrodactylidae) é descrito da superfície corporal de Hypostomus regani (Ihering, 1905) (Loricariidae) e é caracterizado pela presença de órgão copulador masculino armado contendo espinhos de diferentes tamanhos da extremidade proximal à distal, pedúnculo curto e haptor robusto.

This study describes two new endemic Hypostomus species from central Brazil, which were previously identified as genetically distinct lineages in a recent genomic study that recommended their testing and potential description based on morphological data. A machine learning classification procedure (random forest) was used to investigate morphological variation and identify putatively diagnostic characters for these candidate species and revealed that each is morphologically distinct. The new species Hypostomus cafuringa is characterized by small size, dark spots under a light background, deeper caudal peduncle and shorter first ray of the pectoral fin and base of the dorsal fin when compared to congeneric species from the region. H. cafuringa is known from the headwaters of the Maranhão River, upper Tocantins River basin, Distrito Federal, Brazil. The second new species, Hypostomus crulsi, is characterized by dark spots under a light background, absence of plates along the abdomen region, shorter first ray of the pelvic fin, shorter first ray of the pectoral fin and smaller body size. H. crulsi is known from the headwaters of the São Bartolomeu River, upper Paraná River basin, Distrito Federal, Brazil. The rapid conversion of natural habitats for agricultural development and the isolation of protected areas represent a serious threat to the continued existence of these two newly described endemic species, which warrant conservation assessment.

The present study describes Udonella brasiliensis n. sp., an epibiont found on Caligus sp., a parasite the ariids Genidens barbus (Lacepède) and Aspistor luniscutis (Valenciennes), caught on the coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Morphological and molecular analyses (partial 18S rDNA) were carried out. The morphological data showed that U. brasiliensis n. sp. can be distinguished from current valid species by its morphometric attributes (e.g., body, pharynx, ovary and testis), while the molecular information supports the proposal of a new species. The 18S rDNA phylogenetic analysis shows a close relationship between the new species and Udonella australis Carvajal & Sepulveda, in a subclade formed of species that parasitize South American fish. Finally, this study also discusses a scenario of initial irradiation for udonellids.

Wild fish domestication can be considered a strategic approach to endangered species conservation, supporting studies and reducing economic and environmental costs. Three of the most important strategies in the domestication processes of fish are the adaptation of wild fish to captivity, the reproduction of the adapted fish and the production and maintenance of the young individuals. That being said, the present study is divided in three experiments: the 1st aimed to adapt wild Pseudopimelodus mangurus to captivity environment using different feeding approaches and a prophylactic strategie; the 2nd aimed to reproduce the adapted individuals from the 1st experiment; and the 3rd aimed to train the P. mangurus juveniles to accept commercial diets. The 1st and 2nd experiments were successful at the maintenance and artificial reproduction of P. mangurus kept in tanks between the reproductive seasons. The results suggest that the reproductive performance of animals kept in captivity (initial relative fertility-IRF = 609.25 ± 36.6 eggs/g) was similar (p > 0,05) to the performance found in wild individuals (IRF = 679.21 ± 45.66 eggs/g). Feed training of P. mangurus juveniles (3rd experiment) was also conducted, evaluating three feeding treatments with different concentrations of bovine heart and ration. At the end of the experiment, the treatment containing half bovine heart and half commercial feeding resulted in the highest values of weight gain (0.10 ± 0.16 g), specific growth rate (0.37 ± 0.11 mm), length (47.78 ± 2.35 mm) and growth (2.15 ± 2.27 mm), suggesting reasonable acceptability to artificial diets in the cultivation of this species. As conclusion, the present study contributes with the development of techniques for the domestication of fresh water fish species with commercial value or andangered of extinction, showing the domestication and reproduction of wild P. mangurus in captivity. However, more studies have to be conducted in order to improve the acceptance of artificial feeding by juveniles and to increase their survival rate.(AU)


A domesticação de peixes selvagens pode ser considerada uma abordagem estratégica para a conservação de espécies ameaçadas, apoiando estudos e reduzindo custos econômicos e ambientais. Três das estratégias mais importantes para o processo de domesticação de peixes são a adaptação dos peixes ao cativeiro, a reprodução dos peixes adaptados e a produção e manutenção dos indivíduos jovens. O presente estudo está dividido em três partes: a 1ª objetivou adaptar Pseudopimelodus mangurus selvagens ao ambiente de cativeiro usando diferentes abordagens alimentares e uma estratégia profilática; o 2º objetivou reproduzir os indivíduos adaptados do 1º experimento; e o 3º teve como objetivo treinar os juvenis de P. mangurus para aceitar dietas comerciais. O 1o e 2o experimento obteveram sucesso na manutenção e reprodução artificial de P. mangurus mantidos em tanques entre as estações reprodutivas. Os resultados sugerem que o desempenho reprodutivo dos animais mantidos em cativeiro (fertilidade inicial relativa-FIR = 609,25 ± 36,6 ovos / g) foi similar (p> 0,05) ao dos indivíduos selvagens (FIR = 679,21 ± 45,66 ovos / g). O treinamento alimentar de P. mangurus juvenis (3º experimento) também foi realizado avaliando-se 3 tratamentos alimentares com diferentes concentrações de coração bovino e ração. Ao final do experimento, o tratamento contendo metade coração bovino e metade ração gerou os maiores valores de ganho de peso (0,10 ± 0,16 g), taxa de crescimento específico (0,37 ± 0,11 mm), comprimento (47,78 ± 2,35 mm) e crescimento (2,15 ± 2,27 mm), sugerindo razoável aceitabilidade para dietas artificiais no cultivo desta espécie. Como conclusão, o presente estudo contribui com o desenvolvimento de técnicas para a domesticação espécies de peixes de água doce, de interesse comercial ou ameaçados de extinção, mostrando a domesticação e reproduçao de em cativeiro P. Mangurus selvagens. No entanto, mais estudos devem ser conduzidos no intuito de aumentar a aceitação de dietas comerciais pelos juvenis e melhorar sua taxa sobrevivência.(AU)

Two new species of particular biogeographic significance are described from the upper rio Paraguay basin, one of the genus Paracanthopoma (Trichomycteridae, Vandelliinae) and the other of the genus Ernstichthys (Aspredinidae, Hoplomyzontinae). The two species occur sympatrically in the Rio Taquarizinho, tributary of the Rio Taquari, in the upper Paraguay system. Paracanthopoma saci is distinguished from its only congener, P. parva, by a spatulate caudal peduncle; a minuscule premaxillary dentition (reduced to three delicate teeth); the supraorbital latero-sensory canals opening as two separate s6 pores; the caudal fin slightly convex or truncate with round edges; the skull roof entirely open, unossified; the origins of dorsal and anal fins approximately at same vertical; and the pelvic fin with three rays. Ernstichthys taquari is diagnosed among congeners by the narrow bony shields on dorsal and ventral series, not overlapping or contacting each other; by the presence of seven or eight serrations on the posterior margin of the pectoral spine; and by the pectoral-fin spine only slightly larger than subsequent soft rays. Both Paracanthopoma and Ernstichthys were previously unknown outside of the Greater Amazonian river systems (Amazon, Orinoco, Essequibo and smaller surrounding drainages). Their presence restricted to the Rio Taquari is unexpected and suggests a peculiar biogeographical history. Ancestral geographic distributions were reconstructed using S-DIVA and BBM methods in RASP. A majority of resulting hypotheses support that the two species reached the Paraguay from the Amazon. The alternative explanation accounts for their presence in the Paraguay by vicariant events. In no case, their presence in the Paraguay is an ancestral distribution with subsequent Amazonian dispersal. Though unusual, this pattern is also seen in a few other fish taxa, showing that the Rio Taquari is biogeographically hybrid, combining elements from both the Paraguay and Amazon drainages.(AU)

Neotropical catfishes Ageneiosus pardalis, Pimelodus grosskopfii and Sorubim cuspicaudus are migratory fishes of commercial importance that exhibit decreasing populations due to overfishing and other anthropic interventions. This study used species-specific microsatellite loci to test the hypothesis that threatened fish populations show genetic vulnerability signs and are genetically structured in the middle and lower sections of the Cauca River. The studied species exhibit genetic diversity levels higher than the average values reported for Neotropical Siluriformes; however, they seem to have suffered recent bottlenecks and they present significant endogamy levels that are higher for the critically endangered catfish P. grosskopfii. Furthermore, both Ageneiosus pardalis and S. cuspicaudus are each formed by one genetic group, while Pimelodus grosskopfii comprises two coexisting genetic groups. The information obtained in this study is useful for the decision making in management plans that are appropriate for the sustainability of these three species populations within the proposal for the expansion of the hydroelectric development and other anthropic activities.(AU)


Los bagres Neotropicales Ageneiosus pardalis, Pimelodus grosskopfii y Sorubim cuspicaudus, son peces migratorios de importancia comercial cuyas poblaciones han disminuido debido a la sobrepesca y otras intervenciones antrópicas. En este trabajo, se utilizaron loci microsatélites especie-específicos para contrastar la hipótesis de que las poblaciones de peces amenazadas muestran señales de vulnerabilidad genética y están genéticamente estructuradas en los sectores medio y bajo del río Cauca. Las especies estudiadas exhiben niveles de diversidad genética superiores a los promedios reportados para Siluriformes Neotropicales; sin embargo, parecen haber sufrido cuellos de botella recientes y presentan niveles significativos de endogamia que son más altos para el bagre en peligro crítico, P. grosskopfii. Además, Ageneiosus pardalis y S. cuspicaudus están conformados cada uno por un solo grupo genético, mientras que Pimelodus grosskopfii comprende dos grupos genéticos que coexisten. La información obtenida en este estudio es útil para la toma de decisiones en planes de manejo que sean adecuados para la sostenibilidad de las poblaciones de estas tres especies de bagre dentro de las propuestas para la expansión de desarrollo hidroeléctrico y otras actividades antrópicas.(AU)
