RESUMEN

Firefighting requires a high level of physical fitness and causes substantial psychological stress, engendering musculoskeletal, mental, and cardiac issues. Consequently, it is necessary to measure the preparation of the firefighters daily through the Firefighting Physical Ability Tests (FPATs). According to the literature, some variables are more important for performance in the FPAT. Therefore, we aimed to summarize evidence that relates physical and mental aspects to the FPAT performance. We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method, screening 1055 records from databases and selecting 15 that met inclusion criteria. No emotional and psychological variables were correlated with the FPAT. Most research shows significant correlations between the FPAT performance and the following: aerobic fitness, upper body endurance and strength, anaerobic capacity, body fat, and age. Lower body endurance and strength, as well as anaerobic power, had a low number of investigations and need to be further explored. Abdominal endurance showed weak correlations, while flexibility did not show any correlations in most studies, although these should be considered for injury prevention. We recommend that fitness programs and evaluations include a global analysis considering the evidence presented for methodological improvements.

RESUMEN

Background: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of incurable visual impairment and impacts daily life. There are benefits of physical activity for people who are affected with AMD; however, living with AMD is associated with lower levels of physical activity and social isolation. The aim of this study was to explore how older people with AMD in Sweden experienced participation in a 6-month empowerment-based physical activity intervention and how it influenced their physical abilities. Methods: The participants were nine individuals with AMD aged 70-87 years. The intervention comprised physical and social activities in a group twice a week and individual health coaching on three occasions. The study was based on an exploratory qualitative case study design. Results: The findings showed two themes: created meaningfulness in life and creative and playful ways to develop body movements. The findings also showed improved muscle strength after the intervention. Conclusions: The findings showed that participants had increased social connectedness, improved physical self-efficacy and physical ability, as well as improved muscle strength. The empowerment process of the intervention was appreciated by the participants and challenged them to participate in physical activity offered by the municipality for older individuals.

The purpose of this study was to observe if core stabilization training plays a significant role in firefighter time-to-completion during a functional performance test. A within subjects study design was used in which subjects (n = 13, 84.6% male, 33.7 ± 7.4 years of age, 91.06 ± 13.29 kg, 25.79 ± 6.55 percent body fat, 8.96 ± 7.51 years of firefighting experience) completed two performance tests (pre and post core training), comprised of 7 firefighter-specific exercises performed while wearing a 22.68 kg weight vest to mimic typical firefighter equipment. Between testing sessions, subjects were prescribed specific core stabilization exercises to perform at least three days a week for a total of 4 weeks. Time-to-completion was significantly quicker between the first (300.89 ± 42.11s) and second (256.92 ± 34.31s) performance testing, on average by 43.8 seconds (p < 0.001). Body mass index (p = 0.065) and rating of perceived exertion during testing (p = 0.084) did not significantly decrease across the course of the study. Adequate fitness is essential to firefighters' job task performance. Data from this study suggests that regular core stabilization training may assist in optimizing the effectiveness, and potentially safety, of firefighters' performance in high intensity functional skills.

Objective: It is advised that patients engage in physical activity to enhance their quality of life and achieve better results. The purpose of the current study was to measure the efficacy of exercise on the physical ability, cardiac function and cardiopulmonary fitness of patients with AF. Method: A comprehensive systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from 1991 to 2023 for RCTs comparing physical exercise combined with AF routine treatments to routine treatments alone. The meta-analysis was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Our main outcomes were physical ability (measured by the 6-min walk test, 6MWT), cardiac function (measured by left ventricular ejection fraction, LVEF) and cardiopulmonary fitness (measured by peak oxygen uptake and resting heart rate). Quality assessments were conducted using the Cochrane Collaboration tool. Results: Thirteen trials involving 672 patients met the criteria for analysis. The results showed that physical exercise increased physical ability by improving the 6MWT (m) performance (MD = 96.99, 95% CI: 25.55-168.43; Z = 2.66; p = 0.008); and enhanced peak VO2 (ml/kg per min) (MD = 4.85, 95% CI: 1.55-8.14; Z = 2.89; p = 0.004) while reducing resting heart rate (beats per minute, bpm) (MD = -6.14, 95% CI: -11.30 to -0.98; Z = 2.33; p = 0.02). However, the results showed that regular exercise could improve LVEF (%) inpatients clinically, which had no statistic difference between experimental and control group (MD = 1.49, 95% CI: -0.25-3.24; Z = 1.68; p = 0.09). Conclusion: Our meta-analysis shows that physical exercise is an effective intervention to improve the exercise ability and cardiopulmonary fitness for AF patients. Meanwhile, we also do not exclude the positive effect of exercise on the improvement of cardiac function (LVEF) in patients with AF. To this end, doctors should consider the positive impact of exercise on patients and give advice on exercise limits in practical clinical practice.

Purpose: This study sought to find out if a 6-week accommodating variable-resistance (AcVR) training might enhance muscle architecture, peak torque, and functional performance in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (Juv-IA). Methods: Fifty-eight patients with polyarticular Juv-IA (aged 12-18 years) were involved in a randomized controlled trial. They were allocated into two groups: the AcVR group (n = 29; underwent AcVR training, and the control group (n = 29; received the usual exercise regimen). Interventions were applied three times a week over six consecutive weeks. Measurements were done at baseline and after the intervention. The primary outcome measures were muscle architecture and peak torque, with functional capacity being the secondary measure. Results: Compared to the control group, the AcVR group showed favorable pre-to-post changes in muscle architecture [fascicle length (P = 0.0007, η2p = .18), pennation angle (P = 0.0004, η2p = .20), and muscle thickness (P = 0.001, η2p = .17)]. Further, the AcVR group revealed a greater increase in peak concentric torque of knee extensors at angular speeds of 120°/sec [right side (P = 0.0032, η2p = .08); left side (P = 0.039, η2p = .07)] and 180°/sec [right side (P = 0.01, η2p = .11); left side (P = 0.014, η2p = .10)]. Furthermore, The AcVR group achieved more conducive changes in functional performance [6-min walk test (P = 0.003, η2p = .15), timed up and down stair test (P = 0.009, η2p = .12), and 4 × 10 m shuttle run test (P = 0.036, η2p = .08)]. Conclusion: A 6-week AcVR training is potentially effective for improving muscle architectural qualities, enhancing peak muscle torque, and boosting functional performance in patients with Juv-IA without experiencing any detrimental side effects.

An air consumption test (ACT) is a physical ability test used in the fire service. The purpose of this study was to compare demographics and physiological differences between slow versus fast performers on an ACT. 160 career firefighters had air consumption, total task time, body mass index (BMI), peak heart rate (HRpeak), body fat percentage (BF%), and oxygen consumption (VO2peak) measured. K-means clustering was used to dichotomize between slow and fast groups during an ACT. Independent samples t-tests and Cohen's d measures of effect size were used to examine differences between groups. There were no significant differences in groups for age (t = -1.05, p = 0.30, d = 0.17), BMI (t = -1.85, p = 0.07, d = 0.32), or HRpeak (t = 0.99, p = 0.32, d = 0.16). There were significant differences between groups for BF% (t = -3.35, p < 0.01, d = 0.57), relative (t = 3.52, p < 0.01, d = 0.58) and absolute VO2peak (t = 4.29, p < 0.01, d = 0.68), air consumption (t = -4.87, p < 0.01, d = 0.81), and total task time (t = -15.04, p < 0.01, d = 2.58).

BACKGROUND: The surge of disabled older people have brought enormous burdens to society. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of long-term care insurance (LTCI) implementation on mortality and changes in physical ability among disabled older adults. METHODS: This was a prospective observational study based on data from the government-led LTCI program in a pilot city of China from 2017 to 2021. Administrative data included the application survey of activities of daily living (ADL), the baseline characteristics and all-cause mortality. Return visit surveys of ADL were conducted between August 2021 and December 2021. A regression discontinuity model was used to analyze the impact of LTCI on mortality. RESULTS: A total of 12,930 individuals older than 65 years were included in this study, and 10,572 individuals were identified with severe disability and participated in the LTCI program. LTCI implementation significantly reduced mortality by 5.10 % (95 % CI, -9.30 % to -0.90 %) and extended the survival time by 33.74 days (95 % CI, 13.501 to 53.970). The ADL scores of the LTCI group dropped by 2.5 points on average, while the ADL scores of those did not participated in LTCI dropped by 25.0 points. The heterogeneity analysis revealed that the impact of LTCI on mortality reduction was more significant among females, individuals of lower age, those who were married, cared for by family members, and who lived in districts with rich care resources. CONCLUSIONS: LTCI implementation had a favorable impact on the mortality and physical ability of participants.

PURPOSE: To determine whether a 12-week supervised dose-graded aerobic exercise (D-GAE) training, when implemented in conjunction with traditional rehabilitation, could help pediatric survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) enhance their cardiopulmonary capacity and improve their physical performance. METHODS: Fifty-eight pediatric survivors of ALL (age 13.78 ± 2.47 years; boys 60.34%) were assigned at random to either undergo the D-GAE in addition to the traditional physical rehabilitation (D-GAE group; n = 29) or the traditional physical rehabilitation solely (control group; n = 29). The cardiopulmonary fitness (peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak), ventilatory equivalent (VEq/VO2), minute ventilation (VE, L/min), oxygen pulse (O2P), maximum heart rate (HRmax), 1-min heart rate recovery (HRR1), and respiratory exchange ratio (RER)) and physical performance (6-min walk test (6-MWT), timed up and down stairs (TUDS), and 4 × 10-m shuttle run test (4 × 10mSRT)) were assessed on the pre- and post-intervention occasions. RESULTS: The mixed-model ANOVA revealed a meaningful increase of VO2peak (P = .002), VE (P = .026), O2P (P = .0009), HRmax (P = .004), and HRR1 (P = .011), and reduction of VEq/VO2 (P = .003) and RER (P = .003) in the D-GAE group compared with the control group. Besides, the analysis detected a favorable increase in the physical performance for the D-GAE group (6-MWT (P = .007), TUDS (P < .001), 4 × 10mSRT (P = .009)). CONCLUSION: A 12-week D-GAE program in conjunction with traditional rehabilitation holds promise in enhancing cardiopulmonary fitness and improving the physical performance of pediatric survivors of ALL. Clinicians and physical rehabilitation professionals can, therefore, integrate the D-GAE into the traditional rehabilitation protocols for such a patient population to optimize their cardiopulmonary fitness and physical function, while also facilitating a gradual transition to practice and adaption. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS: The favorable outcomes of this study bolster the inclusion of D-GAE as a crucial element in the care and rehabilitation of pediatric survivors of ALL. By embracing these findings, healthcare professionals and oncologists can contribute to mitigating the long-term cardiopulmonary and physical complications associated with cancer treatments and fostering a state of enhanced well-being and increased physical activity among survivors.

BACKGROUND: In 2020, a police department in the south-eastern USA introduced a Job-Related Task Assessment (JTA). The JTA included running, climbing, crawling, balance, direction changes, stair climbing, dragging, pushing, and simulated controlling of a struggling subject and needed to be completed by applicants in 6 : 57 min:s. It is not known whether introducing the JTA in the hiring process affected the health and fitness of hired recruits. OBJECTIVE: To compare the health and fitness of recruits hired prior to, and following, the JTA introduction. METHODS: Analysis was conducted on recruit data split into academy training year: 2016 (n = 91), 2017 (n = 129), 2018 (n = 167), 2019 (n = 242), and 2020 (n = 37). The 2020 group was hired after the JTA introduction and included one academy class. The following were recorded for all recruits: age, height, body mass, and body mass index; systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP); sit-and-reach; grip strength; push-ups; sit-ups; 2.4-km run; and a physical ability test (PAT). A univariate ANOVA, with sex and age as covariates and Bonferroni post hoc, determined between-year differences. RESULTS: The recruits from 2020 were significantly lighter than 2018 recruits (p < 0.031), had higher systolic and diastolic BP than recruits from 2016-2018 (p≤0.006), completed the 2.4-km run faster than recruits from all years (p < 0.001), and completed the PAT faster than the 2016 and 2019 (p = 0.006-0.007) recruits. CONCLUSION: The JTA introduction led to the selection of recruits with lower body mass, and better aerobic (2.4-km run) and job-specific fitness (PAT). However, 2020 recruits also had higher BP which should be monitored.

BACKGROUND: Fitness tests have been previously used to predict academy graduation and highlight specific capacities to be targeted in applicants/trainees to optimise their potential for academy success. OBJECTIVE: To compare the fitness of graduated and released (did not complete academy requirements) firefighter trainees and explore using decision tree analysis to predict academy graduation via fitness tests. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was conducted on 686 trainees who completed an occupational physical ability test (OPAT): Illinois agility test; push-ups; pull-ups; leg tucks; estimated maximal aerobic capacity (VO2max); backwards overhead 4.54-kg medicine ball throw; 10-repetition maximum deadlift; and 91.44-m farmer's carry. Data were recorded in raw and scaled scores (tests scored from 0-100; maximum OPAT score was 800). Trainees were split into 'graduated' (GRAD; n = 576) or 'released' (REL; n = 110) groups. Mann-Whitney U-tests compared between-group OPAT scores. A decision tree analysis using Chi-square automatic interaction detection was conducted, with raw and scaled scores entered into the analysis. A separate analysis was conducted with only the raw scores. RESULTS: GRAD trainees outperformed REL trainees in all OPAT events (p < 0.001). OPAT total score was the best predictor of academy graduation (p < 0.001), followed by the deadlift score (p = 0.003). Estimated VO2max was the only significant raw score predictor (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: GRAD trainees were fitter than the REL trainees. Fitness could predict trainees who graduated from the academy. Overall fitness (OPAT total score), muscular strength (deadlift) and aerobic capacity were important graduation predictors. Training staff could develop these fitness qualities in their trainees to potentially improve fire academy graduation rates.

El proceso madurativo tiene una gran influencia sobre los factores antropométricos y las capacidades físicas del atleta, y por tanto, sobre el proceso de selección de talentos deportivos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar el estado madurativo y las características antropométricas junto con la comparación de estos datos por sexo en una muestra de 39 jugadores jóvenes de voleibol dentro de un proceso de selección de talentos (19 damas de 14,88±1,05 años y 13 varones de 15,1 años). Se obtuvieron datos de edad cronológica, altura, peso, altura sentado, altura de la madre y padre, la edad pico de crecimiento, el "timing" o periodo de tiempo por encima o por debajo de la edad pico, altura al final del proceso madurativo, el porcentaje actual de altura máxima, los centímetros restantes y el estado madurativo (pre-púber, púber o pos-púber). Los jugadores mostraron una mayor altura en el momento de las mediciones (179,92±6,87 vs 171,05±4,80; p<0,001), así como una mayor altura final calculada (189,46±3,73 vs 178,52±5,17; p<0,001), en comparación a las jugadoras. El pico en la velocidad de crecimiento también fue superior en los jugadores (14,56±0,44 vs 12,60±0,57; p<0,001), aunque su timing era inferior al de las jugadoras (0,531±1,19 vs 2,27±0,64; p<0,001). Esto se debió a un mayor porcentaje de jugadores masculinos en estados puberales, incluyendo un jugador en estadio pre-puberal, mientras que fue abundante la presencia de jugadoras en estado pospuberal. Estos datos reflejan la gran cantidad de jugadores que tienden a estar en periodos avanzados de maduración en procesos de selección de talentos. Por tanto, entrenadores y seleccionadores deben contemplar estas variables para evitar sesgos en el proceso de identificación del talento deportivo.


SUMMARY: The maturation process has a great influence on the anthropometric factors and physical capabilities of the athlete, and therefore, on the selection process of sporting talents. The objective of this work was to analyze the maturational state and anthropometric characteristics together with the comparison of these data by sex in a sample of 39 young volleyball players within a talent selection process (19 ladies of 14.88±1. 05 years old and 13 males aged 15.1 years). Data were obtained on chronological age, height, weight, sitting height, height of the mother and father, peak age of growth, timing or period of time above or below the peak age, height at the end of the process. maturation, the current percentage of maximum height, the remaining centimeters and the maturation status (pre-pubertal, pubertal or post-pubertal). The players showed a greater height at the time of the measurements (179.92±6.87 vs. 171.05±4.80; p<0.001), as well as a greater final calculated height (189.46±3.73 vs. 178.52±5.17; p<0.001), compared to the female players. The peak in growth speed was also higher in male players (14.56±0.44 vs 12.60±0.57; p<0.001), although their timing was lower than that of female players (0.531±1.19 vs 2.27±0.64; p<0.001). This was due to a higher percentage of male players in pubertal states, including one player in a pre-pubertal stage, while the presence of female players in a post-pubertal stage was abundant. These data reflect the large number of players who tend to be in advanced periods of maturation in talent selection processes. Therefore, coaches and selectors must consider these variables to avoid biases in the process of identifying sporting talent.

Every basketball player must possess exceptional psychological qualities to perform well. This study aims to determine the impact of physical training on the psychological development of basketball players. Twenty national first-class basketball players were chosen at random to participate in this study, which collects quantitative data. Partial least square–structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) is employed for data analysis. Based on empirical findings, the study demonstrated that physical exercise significantly affects the muscle control of athletes and enhances psychological quality indicators from multiple perspectives. This study concluded that basketball players should be strongly encouraged to engage in physical activity. When athletes in the experimental group increased their physical training, their psychological qualities improved, and they became more stable in significant competitions. This study has contributed considerable findings to both theory and practice for improving the basketball performance of athletes.(AU)

RESUMEN

Literature suggests the pediatric critical care (PCC) workforce includes limited providers from groups underrepresented in medicine (URiM; African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian/Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander). Additionally, women and providers URiM hold fewer leadership positions regardless of health-care discipline or specialty. Data on sexual and gender minority representation and persons with different physical abilities within the PCC workforce are incomplete or unknown. More data are needed to understand the true landscape of the PCC workforce across disciplines. Efforts to increase representation, promote mentorship/sponsorship, and cultivate inclusivity must be prioritized to foster diversity and inclusion in PCC.

It is a well-accepted notion that women are more vulnerable to natural disasters than men, especially in developing countries. However, in developed countries, how women's empowerment by economic and social development has reduced the gender gap in vulnerability remains insufficiently answered. As Japan passed its golden age, moving into an aging society, a study on how the gender difference in flood vulnerability has evolved can contribute to a better understanding of the types and causes of vulnerability, leading to better flood risk management in a new social context. Following this thinking, the present study conducted a longitudinal analysis using representative flooding cases in Japan over a period of forty years. It found that the women's fatality rate increased with age much faster than men's in the 1980s but reversed in a recent major flood disaster. It also revealed that most flood disaster victims were elderly in recent years. These findings suggest that the flood vulnerability at present is more driven by age-related physical ability decline, much less relevant to gender. Based on the results, it proposed a new framework for assessing flood vulnerability in an aging society. Such outcomes can help with the better formulation of flood management policies and probing into solutions.

People diagnosed with developmental disabilities are less likely to participate in physical activities even if they are provided opportunities. This study aimed to examine the effects of dual-task exercise-based augmented reality (AR) on muscle strength, muscle endurance, balance ability, and flexibility among people with developmental disabilities. Twenty-seven patients with developmental disabilities were included in the study. The intervention was based on an AR-based rehabilitation program and lasted for 8 weeks. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in muscle strength, muscle endurance, balance ability, and flexibility after the intervention (p < 0.05). The AR-based dual-task program increased interest and motivation in the high-cognitive-stage groups, while less interest and motivation were observed in the low-cognitive-stage groups. Our results suggest that an AR-based dual-task program can be an effective method to improve physical ability in patients with high cognitive levels.

Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid, VC) is a water-soluble antioxidant essential for collagen polymerization. Previously, we reported that long-term VC deficiency causes muscle atrophy and deterioration in physical ability using female senescence marker protein-30 (SMP30)-deficient mice with a lack of VC synthesis, which is similar to that observed in humans. To determine whether these findings also hold true for male SMP30-deficient mice, two-month-old male SMP30-deficient mice were divided into two groups: the VC-treated group (VC(+)) was administered 1.5 g/L VC, and the VC-untreated group (VC(-)) was supplied water without VC. The VC level at four weeks in the gastrocnemius muscles from the VC(+) and VC(-) groups was 205.7 ± 8.5 nmol/g tissue and 13.1 ± 0.6 nmol/g tissue, respectively. Thus, four weeks was enough to reduce the VC level in the skeletal muscle in the VC-untreated group. On the other hand, muscle weights of the gastrocnemius, soleus, plantaris, tibialis anterior, and extensor digitorum longus in the VC(-) group were significantly reduced by VC deficiency after twelve weeks. The physical endurance of the VC(-) group at eight weeks was markedly lower than that of the VC(+) group. The grasping strength and activity in the cage in the nocturnal phases of the VC(-) group were markedly lower at twelve and sixteen weeks than those of the VC(+) group. Interestingly, muscle atrophy and declined physical ability were completely restored with VC supplementation for twelve weeks after VC deficiency. Thus, VC is essential for maintaining skeletal muscle function in both male and female SMP30-deficient mice with a lack of VC synthesis.

This study aimed to analyze the impacts of a 12-week core strength training (CST) and goal-setting (GS) program on the core endurance, agility, sprinting, jumping, grip strength, and exercise attitude in a group of adolescents. This study followed a randomized parallel design in which 362 adolescents (age: 14.5 ± 1.07 years; body mass index: 19.82 ± 3.64) were allocated to a GS (n = 89), CST (n = 92), or GS + CST (n = 90) program or to a control group (n = 91). Participants were assessed two times (baseline and postintervention) for the following tests: (i) 50 m dash, (ii) grip strength, (iii) long jump, (iv) 1000 m running for boys and 800 m for girls, (v) core endurance, and (vi) exercise attitude. Significant differences (p < 0.05, η2p = 0.035−0.218) were found between the four groups of the six components of physical fitness and the three components of attitude toward exercise (target attitudes, behavioral habits, and sense of behavioral control). Between-group analysis revealed that the GS + CST had significant advantages (p < 0.05) over the CON in terms of the 50 m dash (Cohen's d = 0.06), grip strength (Cohen's d = 0.19_left, 0.31_right), 800/1000 m running (Cohen's d = 0.41), core endurance (Cohen's d = 0.95), and sense of behavioral control (Cohen's d = 0.35). Between-group analysis also revealed that the CST had significant advantages over the CON in terms of grip strength (Cohen's d = 0.27_left, 0.39_right), 50 m (Cohen's d = 0.04), long jump (Cohen's d = 0.21), 800/1000 m (Cohen's d = 0.09), and core stability (Cohen's d = 0.63), which were significantly different from CON (p < 0.05). GS differed from CON only on 50 m (Cohen's d = 0.02) and core stability (Cohen's d = 0.13) with a small effect (p < 0.05). We conclude that the combined intervention of GS and CST is more effective in promoting fitness in adolescents, i.e., GS + CST > CST and GS + CST > GS.

A través de las pruebas de eficiencia física, se determina cómo se va comportando el desarrollo de los estudiantes durante el curso y, en función de estos resultados, poder realizar acciones para mejorar su trayectoria. La flexibilidad es la capacidad física que brinda al hombre la posibilidad de realizar movimientos de gran amplitud, condicionada por las estructuras neuromio-articulares de fijación y estabilización y cuando se utiliza el trabajo cooperativo, el éxito de una actividad de un integrante depende del triunfo del compañero. En observaciones a clases y entrevistas realizadas a los estudiantes del primer año del curso Regular Diurno de la carrera de Cultura Física, se corrobora que en las Pruebas de Eficiencia Física (Pef) realizadas al inicio del curso, el nivel obtenido en la capacidad física Flexibilidad , con respecto al resto de las pruebas, es el de mayor dificultad y muy marcado en los varones, además, la variedad en las clases y el poco uso de trabajo cooperativo son insuficientes por lo que el objetivo de trabajo va dirigido a proponer un conjunto de actividades cooperativas que favorezcan la capacidad física Flexibilidad en los estudiantes del primer año de la carrera de Cultura Física de la Uccfd "Manuel Fajardo". Se utilizaron los métodos inductivo-deductivos, análisis-síntesis, observación científica, encuesta y criterio de especialista. Los resultados fueron positivos para los estudiantes después de cuatro meses de aplicarse la propuesta. Los especialistas valoraron de Muy Adecuado la propuesta, lo que se evidencia en los resultados de los estudiantes la mejoría del nivel en la prueba de flexibilidad.


Através dos testes de eficiência física, define-se como o desenvolvimento dos alunos está se comportando durante o curso e, dependendo destes resultados, podem ser tomadas medidas para melhorar sua evolução. Flexibilidade é a capacidade física que dá ao homem a possibilidade de realizar movimentos de grande amplitude, influenciados pelas estruturas neuro-mio-articulares de fixação e estabilização, e quando se utiliza o trabalho cooperativo, o sucesso da atuação de um membro depende do sucesso do associado. Nas observações nas aulas e nas pesquisas realizadas com os alunos no primeiro ano do curso Regular Diurno de Cultura Física, é comprovado que nos Testes de Eficiência Física (Pef) realizados no início do curso, o nível obtido na capacidade física Flexibilidade, em relação ao resto dos testes, é o mais difícil e muito marcado nos homens, Além disso, a variedade nas aulas e o pouco uso do trabalho cooperativo são insuficientes, por isso o objetivo do trabalho é propor um conjunto de atividades cooperativas que privilegiem a capacidade física para a flexibilidade nos alunos do primeiro ano do curso de Cultura Física no Uccfd "Manuel Fajardo". Foram utilizados os métodos indutivo-deducativo, análise-síntese, observação científica, pesquisa e critérios especializados. Os resultados foram positivos para os estudantes após quatro meses de aplicação da proposta. Os especialistas classificaram a proposta como Muito Adequada, o que é evidenciado pela melhoria no nível dos estudantes no teste de flexibilidade.

In class observations and interviews with the students of the first year of the Regular Day Course of the Physical Culture career, it is corroborated that in the Physical Efficiency Tests (Pef in Spanish) carried out at the beginning of the course, the level obtained in the physical capacity Flexibility, with respect to the rest of the tests, is the most difficult and very marked in the males, in addition, the variety in the classes and the little use of cooperative work are insufficient, so the objective of the work is aimed at proposing a set of cooperative activities that favor the physical capacity Flexibility in the students of the first year of the Physical Culture course of the Physical Culture and Sport Sciences University (Uccfd in Spanish) "Manuel Fajardo". The inductive-deductive, analysis-synthesis, scientific observation, survey and specialist criteria methods were used. The results were positive for the students after four months of applying the proposal. The specialists assessed the proposal as Very Adequate, which is evidenced by the students' results in the improvement of the level in the flexibility test.

The purpose of this study is to revise and modify the firefighter job-related performance tests from overseas to implement into the circumstances in Korea, examine its validity by analyzing the level of association between the test employed in the ongoing firefighter selection process, and propose a Korean firefighter job-related physical fitness test. Therefore, a modified version of Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) from the United States firefighter selection process was conducted on 28 male firefighter officer candidates. Recorded results from VO2max, heart rate, blood lactate, anaerobic power test, and the ongoing Korean firefighter physical fitness test were analyzed to assess the validity of the modified test. IBM SPSS Statistics Ver. 27.0 was employed for the data correlation analysis in different fitness factors and the total circuit physical test time. The results revealed the proposed modified firefighter job-related physical fitness test showed significant correlation with VO2max (r = −0.450, p < 0.05), METS (r = −0.735, p < 0.01) recovery lactate over 15 min (r = −0.460, p < 0.05), peak power (r = −0.484, p < 0.05), average power (r = −0.647, p < 0.01), and in the ongoing firefighter physical fitness test, grip strength (r = −0.709, p < 0.01), lower back strength (r = −0.681, p < 0.01), standing long jump (r = −0.618, p < 0.01), sit-ups (r = −0.397, p < 0.05), and shuttle run (r = −0.523, p < 0.01). Fitness factors including VO2max, recovery lactate, anaerobic power, muscular strength, and so forth known to play a crucial role in firefighting operations were also shown to be important in the modified firefighter job-related physical fitness test. However, we suggest that studies with a larger sample size are needed in order to generalize our findings.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes is a serious medical condition that may cause blindness, renal failure and amputation of the lower limbs, stroke and myocardial infarction. The global incidence of diabetes increases continuously. The self-management of diabetes can be problematic and burdensome, especially if employed individuals choose not to reveal their illness. The workplace has been highlighted as an important element that may impact how employed individuals, diagnosed with diabetes and managed their illness. AIM: To describe the influence of diabetes disclosure on the cognitive, physical ability and diabetes self-management of employed adults with diabetes in Saudi Arabia. DESIGN: A descriptive correlational study. METHODS: This study used a self-administered questionnaire, including the Checklist Individual Strength and Perceived Diabetes Self-Management Scale, for data collection. The sample size was 250 employed adults with diabetes. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Spearman's correlation coefficient and bivariate analysis. RESULTS: A significant correlation was found between diabetes self-management and support from co-workers (r = .55, p < .05), and the employees who received more support from their co-workers were able to perform diabetes self-management. The results also indicate that employees who received support at their workplace reported improved concentration, motivation and activity (r = .41, p < .05). CONCLUSION: It is essential for top management and policymakers to implement supportive programmes in the workplace, and considering a constant, not rotating, work schedule.
