BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the location and distribution of pain in adults with chronic low back pain (LBP) with degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS) according to coronal deformities. METHODS: We enrolled 100 adults with chronic LBP and DLS, dividing them into two groups, a right-convex DLS group (n = 50) and a left-convex DLS group (n = 50). Dominant pain location was analyzed by dividing it into three parts-left side, right side, and center-and pain areas were identified using the pain drawing method; then, a heat map was created for each group. An association between pain location and convex side was analyzed as the primary outcome. Additionally, we assessed pain characteristics and radiological parameters, such as the curve structure and degree of degeneration. We used the Mann-Whitney U test or the chi-squared test to compare the clinical characteristics of the two groups, and generalized linear models were utilized to determine which variables were associated with pain severity or pain area. RESULTS: The results indicated that there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of the association between the curve structure, pain severity and location. In multivariate analysis, although we did not find any variables associated with pain severity, we observed that age and a left-convex DLS were negatively correlated with pain area among all participants. The heat map demonstrated that individuals with chronic LBP frequently experienced pain in the central lumbar region, regardless of the coronal curve structure. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that degenerative coronal lumbar deformities may not have a specific pain pattern associated with a curved structure.

Dysmenorrhea (DYS), or recurrent menstrual pain, is a highly prevalent pain condition among otherwise healthy women. However, the progression of DYS over time and the influence of the menstrual cycle phases need to be better understood. While the location and distribution of pain have been used to assess pain mechanisms in other conditions, they are unexplored in DYS. Thirty otherwise healthy women with severe DYS and 30 healthy control women were recruited into 3 subgroups (n = 10) according to the length of their menstrual history (<5, 5-15, or>15 years since menarche). The intensity and distribution of menstrual pain were recorded. Pressure pain thresholds at abdominal, hip, and arm sites, pressure-induced pain distribution, temporal summation of pain, and pain intensity after pressure cessation over the gluteus medius were assessed at 3 menstrual cycle phases. Compared with the healthy control women, those with DYS showed lower pressure pain thresholds in every site and menstrual cycle phase (P < .05), enlarged pressure-induced pain areas during menstruations (P < .01), and increased temporal summation and pain intensity after pressure cessation in the overall menstrual cycle (P < .05). Additionally, these manifestations were enhanced during the menstrual and premenstrual phases compared to ovulation in women with DYS (P < .01). Women with long-term DYS demonstrated enlarged pressure-induced pain distribution, enlarged menstrual pain areas, and more days with severe menstrual pain compared to the short-term DYS subgroup (P < .01). Pressure-induced and menstrual pain distributions were strongly correlated (P < .001). These findings suggest that severe DYS is a progressive condition underscored by facilitated central pain mechanisms associated with pain recurrence and exacerbation. PERSPECTIVE: Enlarged pressure-induced pain areas occur in DYS, associated with the length of the condition and the distribution of menstrual pain. Generalized hyperalgesia is present throughout the entire menstrual cycle and intensifies during premenstrual and menstrual phases.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Pain drawings are commonly used in the clinical assessment of people with cervical radiculopathy. This study aimed to assess (1) the agreement of clinical interpretation of pain drawings and MRI findings in identifying the affected level of cervical radiculopathy, (2) the agreement of these predictions based on the pain drawing among four clinicians from two different professions (i.e., physiotherapy and surgery) and (3) the topographical pain distribution of people presenting with cervical radiculopathy (C4-C7). METHODS: Ninety-eight pain drawings were obtained from a baseline assessment of participants in a randomized clinical trial, in which single-level cervical radiculopathy was determined using MRI. Four experienced clinicians independently rated each pain drawing, attributing the pain distribution to a single nerve root (C4-C7). A post hoc analysis was performed to assess agreement. OUTCOME MEASURES: Percentage agreement and kappa values were used to assess the level of agreement. Topographic pain frequency maps were created for each cervical radiculopathy level as determined by MRI. RESULTS: The radiculopathy level determined from the pain drawings showed poor overall agreement with MRI (mean = 35.7%, K = -0.007 to 0.139). The inter-clinician agreement ranged from fair to moderate (K = 0.212-0.446). Topographic frequency maps revealed that pain distributions were widespread and overlapped markedly between patients presenting with different levels cervical radiculopathy. CONCLUSION: This study revealed a lack of agreement between the segmental level affected determined from the patient's pain drawing and the affected level as identified on MRI. The large overlap of pain and non-dermatomal distribution of pain reported by patients likely contributed to this result.

INTRODUCTION: Acute musculoskeletal injuries have diverse symptomatology and a multidimensional recovery process, including changes in swelling, redness, hyperalgesia, and expanded pain distribution. In a small proportion of cases, the tissue heals, although these symptoms persist, reflecting altered peripheral and central pain mechanisms. However, the otherwise healthy multidimensional recovery process following damage and pain is less than clear. The objective was to assess mechanical muscle hyperalgesia, skin temperature, and pain intensity and distribution during the recovery process in response to eccentric exercise in the hamstring muscles. METHODS: Twenty-four healthy males participated in four sessions (Day-0, Day-2, Day-4, and Day-7). Exercise-induced muscle soreness was induced on Day-0 by five sets of 20 repetitions of an eccentric exercise involving the hamstrings on the dominant leg. Each session included assessments of thermography, pressure pain thresholds (PPTs), pain intensity, and area of exercise-induced pain. RESULTS: Decreased PPTs (P < 0.005), higher pain intensity (P < 0.001), and a larger area of pain (P < 0.001) were displayed on Day-2 and Day-4 than Day-0. Skin temperature decreased on Day-2 than Day-0 (P < 0.01) and returned to baseline assessments by Day-4, despite lower temperature than the contralateral tight (P < 0.01). Further, there was a positive correlation between pain intensity and area on Day-2 and Day-4 (P < 0.005), but no for changes in skin temperature. CONCLUSION: Thermographic changes and pain-related variables altered following eccentric exercise demonstrate different recovery times. These results provide insights into potential mechanisms and measures that can be used to assess recovery from exercise-induced damage.

Acute low back pain can be experimentally induced by injections of hypertonic saline into deep tissues of the back, such as fascia and muscle. The current study investigated the dose-dependency of peak-pain and spatial extent of concomitant radiating pain following 50, 200 and 800 µL bolus injections of hypertonic saline (5.8%) into the thoracolumbar fascia and multifidus muscle, since data on dose-dependency is lacking in humans. Sixteen healthy subjects rated (11 female, 5 male; 23.3 ± 3.1 years, mean ± SD) intensity and spatial extent of pain. Injections into the fascia resulted in significantly higher peak-pain (+86%, p < 0.001), longer pain durations (p < 0.05), and larger pain areas (+65%, p < 0.02) and were less variable than intramuscular injections. Peak-pain ratings and pain areas were 2−3-fold higher/larger for 200 µL vs. 50 µL. In contrast, peak pain increased only marginally at 800 µL by additional 20%, while pain areas did not increase further at all in both, fascia and muscle. Thus, higher injection volumes did also not compensate the lower sensitivity of muscle. Peak-pain ratings and pain areas correlated between fascia and muscle (r = 0.530, p < 0.001 and r = 0.337, p < 0.02, respectively). Peak-pain ratings and pain areas correlated overall (r = 0.490, p < 0.0001), but a weak correlation remained when the impact of between-tissue differences and different injection volumes were singled out (partial r = 0.261, p < 0.01). This study shows dose-dependent pain responses of deep tissues where an injection volume of 200 µL of hypertonic saline is deemed an adequate stimulus for tissue differentiation. We suggest that pain radiation is not simply an effect of increased peripheral input but may afford an individual disposition for the pain radiation response. Substantially higher pain-sensitivity and wider pain areas support fascia as an important contributor to non-specific low back pain.

OBJECTIVES: Experimental pain is a commonly used method to draw conclusions about the motor response to clinical musculoskeletal pain. A systematic review was performed to determine if current models of acute experimental pain validly replicate the clinical experience of appendicular musculoskeletal pain with respect to the distribution and quality of pain and the pain response to provocation testing. METHODS: A structured search of Medline, Scopus and Embase databases was conducted from database inception to August 2020 using the following key terms: "experimental muscle pain" OR "experimental pain" OR "pain induced" OR "induced pain" OR "muscle hyperalgesia" OR ("Pain model" AND "muscle"). Studies in English were included if investigators induced experimental musculoskeletal pain into a limb (including the sacroiliac joint) in humans, and if they measured and reported the distribution of pain, quality of pain or response to a provocation manoeuvre performed passively or actively. Studies were excluded if they involved prolonged or delayed experimental pain, if temporomandibular, orofacial, lumbar, thoracic or cervical spine pain were investigated, if a full text of the study was not available or if they were systematic reviews. Two investigators independently screened each title and abstract and each full text paper to determine inclusion in the review. Disagreements were resolved by consensus with a third investigator. RESULTS: Data from 57 experimental pain studies were included in this review. Forty-six of these studies reported pain distribution, 41 reported pain quality and six detailed the pain response to provocation testing. Hypertonic saline injection was the most common mechanism used to induce pain with 43 studies employing this method. The next most common methods were capsaicin injection (5 studies) and electrical stimulation, injection of acidic solution and ischaemia with three studies each. The distribution of experimental pain was similar to the area of pain reported in clinical appendicular musculoskeletal conditions. The quality of appendicular musculoskeletal pain was not replicated with the affective component of the McGill Pain Questionnaire consistently lower than that typically reported by musculoskeletal pain patients. The response to provocation testing was rarely investigated following experimental pain induction. Based on the limited available data, the increase in pain experienced in clinical populations during provocative maneuvers was not consistently replicated. CONCLUSIONS: Current acute experimental pain models replicate the distribution but not the quality of chronic clinical appendicular musculoskeletal pain. Limited evidence also indicates that experimentally induced acute pain does not consistently increase with tests known to provoke pain in patients with appendicular musculoskeletal pain. The results of this review question the validity of conclusions drawn from acute experimental pain studies regarding changes in muscle behaviour in response to pain in the clinical setting.

Introduction Pain drawings (PDs) are an important component of the assessment of a patient with pain. Although analog pain drawings (APDs), such as pen-on-paper drawings, have been extensively used in clinical assessment and clinical research, there is a lack of digital pain drawing (DPD) software that would be able to quantify and analyze the digital pain distribution obtained by the patients. The aim of this work is to describe a method that can quantify the extent and location of pain through novel custom-built software able to analyze data from the digital pain drawings obtained from the patients. Methods The application analysis and software specifications were based on the information gathered from the literature, and the programmers created the custom-built software according to the published needs of the pain scientific community. Results We developed a custom-built software named "Pain Distribution," which, among others, automatically calculates the number of the pixels the patient has chosen and therefore quantifies the pain extent, provides the frequency distribution from a group of images, and has the option to select the threshold over which the patient is considered with central sensitization (CS). Additionally, it delivers results and statistics for both every image and the frequency distribution, providing mean values, standard deviations, and CS indicators, as well as the ability to export them in *.txt file format for further analysis. Conclusion A novel Pain Distribution application was developed, freely available for use in any setting, clinical, research, or academic.

OBJECTIVES: This is a prospective, blinded, case-control study of patients with chronic pain using body diagrams and colored markers to show the distribution and quality of pain and sensory symptoms (aching, burning, tingling, numbness, and sensitivity to touch) experienced in affected body parts. METHODS: Two pain physicians, blinded to patients' clinical diagnoses, independently reviewed and classified each colored pain drawing (CPD) for presence of neuropathic pain (NeuP) vs. non-neuropathic pain (NoP). A clinical diagnosis (gold standard) of NeuP was made in 151 of 213 (70.9%) enrolled patients. RESULTS: CPD assessment at "first glance" by both examiners resulted in correctly categorizing 137 (64.3% by examiner 1) and 156 (73.2% by examiner 2) CPDs. Next, classification of CPDs by both physicians, using predefined criteria of spatial distribution and quality of pain-sensory symptoms, improved concordance to 212 of 213 CPDs (Kappa = 0.99). The diagnostic ability to correctly identify NeuP and NoP by both examiners increased to 171 (80.2%) CPDs, with 80.1% sensitivity and 80.6% specificity (Kappa = 0.56 [95% confidence interval: 0.44-0.68]). The severity scores for pain and sensory symptoms (burning, tingling, numbness, and sensitivity to touch) on the Neuropathic Pain Questionnaire were significantly elevated in NeuP vs. NoP (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates good performance characteristics of CPDs in identifying patients with NeuP through the use of a simple and easy-to-apply classification scheme. We suggest use of CPDs as a bedside screening tool and as a method for phenotypic profiling of patients by the quality and distribution of pain and sensory symptoms.

Background and aims Persistent tendinopathies were previously considered solely as peripheral conditions affecting the local tendinous tissue until quantitative sensory testing identified involvement of altered pain processing. In similar fashion, pain in patients with persistent plantar fasciopathy may also involve more than local tissue. The aim of this pilot study was to investigate potential differences in conditioned pain modulation and pressure and thermal pain thresholds, between individuals with PF and healthy pain-free controls, as a precursor to a larger-scale study. Methods We assessed 16 individuals with plantar fasciopathy and 11 pain-free controls. Plantar fasciopathy diagnosis was: palpation pain of the medial calcaneal tubercle or the proximal plantar fascia, duration ≥3 months, pain intensity ≥2/10, and ultrasound-measured plantar fascia thickness ≥4 mm. Quantitative sensory tests were performed locally at the plantar heel and remotely on the ipsilateral elbow. Assessments included pain thresholds for pressure, heat and cold, and conditioned pain modulation measured as change in local resting pressure pain threshold with cold water hand immersion. Participants rated pain intensity at pain threshold. Additionally, the area and distribution of plantar fasciopathy pain was drawn on a digital body chart of the lower limbs. Descriptive analyses were performed and between-group differences/effects expressed as standardised mean differences (d). Results There was no conditioned pain modulation difference between participants with plantar fasciopathy and controls (d = 0.1). Largest effects were on local pressure pain threshold and reported pain intensity on pressure pain threshold (d > 1.8) followed by pain intensity for heat and cold pain thresholds (d = 0.3-1.5). According to the digital body chart, pain area extended beyond the plantar heel. Conclusions The unlikelihood of a difference in conditioned pain modulation yet a pain area extending beyond the plantar heel provide a basis for exploring altered pain processing in a larger-scale study. Implications This was the first study to investigate the presence of altered pain processing in individuals with plantar fasciopathy using a conditioned pain modulation paradigm and thermal pain thresholds. We found no indication of an altered pain processing based on these measures, however, patients rated pain higher on thresholds compared to controls which may be important to clinical practice and warrants further exploration in the future.

BACKGROUND: Assessing features of centralized pain may prove to be clinically meaningful in pediatric populations. However, we are currently limited by the lack of validated pediatric measures. AIM: We examined the psychometric properties of the Widespread Pain Index (WPI) and Symptom Severity (SS) scale, to assess features of centralized pain, in youth with painful conditions from three clinical samples: (1) musculoskeletal surgery, (2) headache, and (3) chronic pain. METHODS: Participants were 240 youth aged 10-18 years (Mage=14.8, SD=1.9) who completed the WPI and SS scale. Subsets of participants also completed additional measures of pain region, pain intensity, quality of life, pain interference and physical function. RESULTS: Increased features of centralized pain by age were seen for the WPI (r=0.27, p<0.01) and SS scale (r=0.29, p<0.01). Expected differences in sex were seen for the WPI (sex:t132=-3.62, p<0.01), but not the SS scale (sex:t223=-1.73, p=0.09). Reliability for the SS scale was adequate (α=.70). Construct validity was demonstrated through relationships between the WPI and pain regions (r=.57, p<0.01), and between the SS scale and quality of life (r=-.59, p<0.01) and pain interference (r=.56, p<0.01). Criterion validity was demonstrated by differences on the WPI between the surgery sample and the headache and chronic pain samples (F2,237=17.55, p<0.001). Comprehension of the SS scale items was problematic for some youth. CONCLUSIONS: The WPI showed adequate psychometric properties in youth; however the SS scale may need to be modified. Our findings support the need to develop psychometrically sound instruments for comprehensive assessment of pain in pediatric samples.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze a cohort of 745 consecutive patients referred to a regional specialist clinic for evaluation of post-traumatic neck pain during a five-year period. METHODS: A cross-sectional observational study of baseline assessments performed by multi-professional rehabilitation teams according to a standardized checklist. RESULTS: The cohort contained nearly twice as many females as males (64% versus 36%). The type of injury did not differ between sexes. Of the entire cohort, 38% were diagnosed with widespread pain, 50% with regional pain, and 12% with local pain. The pain distribution among the females was 43% widespread, 48% regional, and 9% local, and corresponding figures among males were 29%, 53%, and 18%. Longer time between trauma and assessment did not affect pain distribution among the men, but a tendency towards more widespread pain was observed among the women. DISCUSSION: The importance of "female sex" as risk factor for the development of persistent pain after neck trauma needs to be discussed further. The high frequency of regional and widespread pain among patients with persistent neck pain after trauma calls for both multidisciplinary assessments and treatment strategies. The relationships between different pain distribution patterns, disability, activity, and psychological factors need to be studied further. Implications for rehabilitation Patients suffering from pain and disability after neck trauma constitute a significant proportion of patients with persistent pain. The importance of the risk factor "female sex" should be further discussed in the development of persistent pain after neck trauma. The high frequency of regional and widespread pain among patients with persistent neck pain after trauma calls both for multidisciplinary assessments and treatment strategies. The relationships between different pain distribution patterns, disability, activity, and psychological factors need to be studied further.

PURPOSE: Papers regarding adhesive capsulitis (AC) of the shoulder focused on etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment; until now, information on shoulder pain characteristics is still scarce. Our aim was to analyze pain intensity and distribution in patients with AC. METHODS: The study group was composed of 278 (133M-145F) consecutive patients with AC. After diagnosis, shoulder pain distribution was assessed through an upper limb pain map and pain intensity through a visual analog scale. Patients were distinguished on the basis of gender, age, time elapsed from onset of symptoms, and severity of functional limitation. Data were submitted to statistical analysis. RESULTS: Intensity of shoulder pain caused by AC was higher in females (p < 0.05); it did not vary with the side and between patient younger and older than 55 years. Patients whose pain arose from more than 3 months suffered a lower intensity of shoulder pain. Furthermore, pain intensity was higher in the most severe form of AC (active forward flexion < 60°) (p < 0.05). Pain was localized predominantly on the anterior aspect of the shoulder (dermatomes C5-C6) and rarely extended beyond the distal third of the arm. No differences were found in pain distribution between male and female, between patients with pain from less or more than 3 months and between different levels of AC severity (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Shoulder pain due to AC may be influenced by gender and severity of functional limitation. AC pain distribution principally involves anterior aspect of the shoulder with downward extension of the arm until its distal third. LEVELS OF EVIDENCE: Level IV.

BACKGROUND: Detailed pain mapping of extent and distribution in individuals with patellofemoral pain (PFP) within and around a complex structure such as the knee has yet to be explored. METHODS: Perceptions of on-going pain from adolescents and young adults (N = 35) with long-standing (>10 months) PFP were collected on high-resolution 3D digital body-schema of the knees. Location, area of pain, pain intensity, laterality, worse side of knee pain, symptom duration, and symmetry in bilateral knee pain were recorded. A threshold for naturally occurring variations in symmetrical knee pain drawings were collected from 18 healthy controls and used in combination with the development a symmetry index (0-1) to create a fuzzy rule for classifying symmetrical and non-symmetrical PFP patterns as compared to a PFP expert. The symmetry index was computed and tested using a correlation coefficient alone or in combination with the Jaccard index and the true and false positive rates (TPR and FPR, respectively) determined. RESULTS: The peripatellar region was the common report of pain location however, novel and nonconforming PFP patterns were identified and the majority of individuals (22 of 27) with bilateral PFP expressed highly-symmetric mirror-image pain. Individuals with symptom duration of 5 years or more had a greater area of pain, compared to those with symptoms for less than 5 years. The total area of pain was correlated to symptom duration for those with extended symptoms durations and a progression towards an "O" shaped pattern emerged. A TPR of 100% for identifying symmetrical knee pain patterns was found however the expert PFP tended to be stricter, as reflected in FPR of 20%. CONCLUSIONS: A high proportion of PFP patterns or symptoms occur in mirrored locations and are exceptionally symmetrical, and long duration of symptoms appear to converge to an 'O' shape. Classifying symmetrical pain patterns is subjective however simple fuzzy rules and correlations can be used to increase objectivity. This study highlights a gap in knowledge of PFP symptom presentation, reveals what may be a natural progression of symptoms, and provides valuable clinical insight for both pain management and treatment.

Study Design Retrospective cross-sectional cohort of military patients with musculoskeletal pain. Background Body diagrams are used to document symptoms and can also serve as a proxy to assess psychological influence. However, literature to support this is conflicting. Objectives To (1) examine the unique contribution of pain and nonpain symptom distribution to magnitude of self-reported pain intensity and disability, and (2) assess the moderating influence of psychological factors and body diagram score on concurrent pain intensity and disability. Methods Pain, numbness, and tingling were denoted on a body diagram at initial evaluation. Fear-avoidance beliefs, pain catastrophizing, and region-specific self-reported disability measures were collected. The contributions of pain and nonpain symptom distribution to pain intensity and disability were assessed to determine which body diagram symptom scoring method (pain only, nonpain, or composite) was appropriate for subsequent analyses. Hierarchical linear regression analyses were then used to determine the moderating effects of the Pain Catastrophizing Scale and Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire and the body diagram score on concurrent pain and disability. Results The Pain Catastrophizing Scale and Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire explained between 16% and 17% of the variance in pain intensity, and 8% of variance in disability (all, P<.001). The composite symptom score explained an additional 4% to 5% variance in concurrent disability and pain intensity (all, P<.001). The Pain Catastrophizing Scale moderated the relationship between body diagram score and pain intensity. The positive relationship between composite symptom score and concurrent pain intensity is stronger for patients with low catastrophizing. Conclusion The clinical utility of body diagrams with low symptom distribution may be improved by concomitant assessment of pain catastrophizing and warrants further longitudinal investigation. BACKGROUND: The vast majority of studies regarding rotator cuff tears (RCTs) are focused on etiopathogenesis and treatments, but information on shoulder pain characteristics needs further investigation. We analyzed the intensity and distribution of shoulder pain in patients with different sizes of RCTs. METHODS: Two hundred eighty-five consecutive patients with postero-superior RCTs were enrolled for this study. Tear size was intraoperatively classified. Before surgery, all patients completed an upper limb pain map (dermatome map made by Keegan). Shoulder pain intensity was assessed with a visual analogue scale (VAS). Data were submitted to statistical analysis. RESULTS: Shoulder pain intensity caused by a RCT was greater in females (P = .024); it did not vary with the side nor with age. Pain intensity was less in massive tears (P < .05) and in patients whose pain was distributed only to the shoulder (P = .035). Furthermore, patients whose pain persisted for more than 6 months maintained the same pain intensity. Pain was localized predominantly on dermatomes C5-C6, was more diffuse in massive tears (P < .05), and rarely extended beyond the elbow. In the presence of intense shoulder pain, its precise distribution was not well-delimited. CONCLUSION: Shoulder pain characteristics in patients with RCTs may be influenced by gender and size of tear. Cuff tear pain distribution principally involves the antero-lateral aspect of the shoulder with extension down the lateral surface of the arm to the elbow. Information about pain intensity and distribution in patients with RCTs may contribute to a more accurate diagnosis. LEVELS OF EVIDENCE: Level III, cross sectional study.

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to gain knowledge of fibromyalgia (FM) patients on long-term sick leave and with particular difficulties in resuming work, and to compare them with patients with myalgia, back or joint diagnoses, and depression. METHODS: Patients were identified by and referred from social insurance offices and were multidisciplinarily examined by three board-certified specialists in psychiatry, orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation medicine. Ninety-two women were diagnosed with FM only. Three female comparison groups were chosen: depression, back/joint diagnoses, and myalgia. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Ceaseless pain was reported by 73% of FM patients, 54% of back/joint diagnoses patients, 43% of myalgia patients, and 35% of depression patients. The distribution of pain (>50%) in FM patients was to almost all regions of the body, and in depression patients to the lower dorsal neck, upper shoulders and lumbosacral back but not in the anterior body. Reduced sleep was more evident in FM patients. FM patients did not meet more criteria for personality disorder than patients with the other somatic pain conditions. The most common dimension of "personality traits" of somatic pain conditions was the "obsessive compulsive" but at a level clearly below that indicating a personality disorder. More FM patients experienced disabilities, the most common being in the mobility and domestic-life areas.
