BACKGROUND: Debridement is key to removing devitalised tissue, debris and biofilm as part of wound-bed preparation. Unlike many other methods of debridement, mechanical debridement with a pad is effective enough to be used independently without an adjunctive method of debridement, while being more accessible than other standalone options. OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical performance and safety of a debridement pad with both abrasive and non-abrasive surfaces in daily clinical practice. METHODS: This was a prospective, non-controlled, non-randomised, single-arm, open-label, multicentred observational evaluation. Inclusion criteria were wounds >4 cm2 covered with at least 30% debris, necrotic tissue or slough in patients aged ≥18 years. The treatment protocol comprised a single application of the debridement pad. The primary outcome measure was the amount of necrotic tissue, slough or debris in the wound bed. Secondary outcomes included the appearance of the wound bed, edges and periwound skin; self-reported pain scores; foreseeable negative impacts; and clinician satisfaction. RESULTS: A total of 62 participants with a variety of wound types were included in the analysis. Most wounds (87%) had been present for over 3 months and had high or moderate exudate levels (90%). A significant reduction was observed in all three parameters: necrotic tissue (p=0.043), slough (p<0.001) and debris (p<0.001). Necrotic tissue, slough and debris showed mean relative reductions of 40%, 72% and 40%, respectively. Of participants, 84% did not experience an increase in pain during the debridement procedure. CONCLUSION: This clinical real-world data shows the debridement pad to be an effective and well-tolerated device for debridement and wound bed preparation.

RESUMEN

We aimed to determine the efficacy of the various available oral, topical, and procedural treatment options for hair loss in individuals with androgenic alopecia. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a systematic review of the National Library of Medicine was performed. Overall, 141 unique studies met our inclusion criteria. We demonstrate that many over the counter (e.g. topical minoxidil, supplements, low-level light treatment), prescription (e.g. oral minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride), and procedural (e.g. platelet-rich plasma, fractionated lasers, hair transplantation) treatments successfully promote hair growth, highlighting the superiority of a multifaceted and individualized approach to management.

BACKGROUND: For abdominal fascial closure, the choice of optimal suture material and appropriate suture technique are of paramount importance to prevent the incidence of incisional hernia. Although barbed sutures are widely used in various surgical fields, their safety and feasibility on abdominal fascial closure which requires the most tensile strength for security have not been established yet. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, single-arm, interventional clinical trial to present the postoperative outcomes of using barbed sutures in abdominal fascial closure between April 2021 and August 2021. Patients with colorectal cancer who underwent minimally invasive surgery in elective setting were included. For all participants, monofilament polydioxanone barbed suture, MONOFIX®, was used to secure the abdominal fasica. The primary outcome was the 1-year incidence of incisional hernia assessed by computed tomography. RESULTS: A total of 30 patients were included. The median fascial incision length and suture length were 6.5 cm (range, 6-7.5 cm) and 31 cm (range, 27.5-39.0 cm), respectively. The median procedure time of abdominal fascial closure was 4 min (range, 3-9 min). There was no incidence of unexpected event related to suturing including suture cutting, stopper separation from threads, and suture loosening. One case of superficial surgical site infection occurred during postoperative hospital stays. There was no fascial dehiscence, incisional hernia, and adhesive ileus during a median follow-up period of 17.5 months. CONCLUSION: Monofilament polydioxanone barbed suture, MONOFIX®, may be used safely and effectively on abdominal fascial closure. GOV NUMBER: NCT05872334.

PURPOSE: The main study goal is to assess the relationship between adherence to the mediterranean diet (MD) and the presence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: Observational pilot study of 174 patients diagnosed with T2DM. Sociodemographic and anthropometric variables, physical activity, smoking habits, blood biochemical parameters and comorbidities were recorded. The presence of alterations in sensitivity to pressure, pain, thermal and vibration was explored. Good MD adherence was a score ≥ 9 the 14-point MD adherence questionnaire (MEDAS-14). RESULTS: The study population consisted of 174 patients (61.5% men and 38.5% women), with a mean age of 69.56 ± 8.86 years; 19% of these patients adhered to the MD. The score obtained in the MEDAS-14 was higher in patients who did not present alterations in sensitivity to pressure (p = 0.047) or vibration (p = 0.021). The patients without diabetic peripheral neuropathy were more likely to comply with the MD and had a higher score on the MEDAS-14 (p = 0.047). However, multivariate analysis showed that only altered sensitivity to pressure was associated with adherence to the MD (altered sensitivity OR = 2.9; 95%CI 1.02-8.22; p = 0.045). CONCLUSIONS: Although the patients with DPN had lower scores on the MEDAS questionnaire and therefore poorer adherence to the mediterranean diet, the only parameter significantly associated with the MD was that of sensitivity to pressure (monofilament test).

The buckling of a slender monofilament is a standard clinical method used to assess touch sensory perception, with specific applications to somatosensory impairment in patients after a stroke, detecting carpal tunnel syndrome, and as a prognosis tool for diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The basis of this approach is the Semmes-Weinstein monofilament, which comprises a calibrated set of thin, polycarbonate rods with different diameters. Application of a monofilament onto the surface of the skin with increasing pressure causes the rod to buckle. That is, at a specific force of pushing down on the far end, the monofilament suddenly bows out sidewards - the buckling load. The ability of a patient to detect increasingly finer monofilament buckling (pressure threshold) is then used to assess sensory deterioration. This paper addresses the underlying mechanics of the buckling process. Despite the accuracy and repeatability problems that have been reported in the literature, and the necessarily subjective aspects of sensory physiology, the mathematical modeling of the monofilament buckling is unambiguous and provides some fundamental insight into the parameters that underlie this approach.

AIM: The present study aimed to determine the prevalence and predictors of DPN in newly diagnosed T2DM patients. BACKGROUND: Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is the most common and debilitating complication of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: Newly diagnosed T2DM patients visiting the outpatient department were recruited. Detailed demographic parameters, histories, physical examinations, and biochemical investigations were carried out. Patients were screened for DPN using the Diabetic Neuropathy Symptom (DNS) score, the revised Disability Neuropathy Score (NDS), Vibration Perception Threshold (VPT) using a biosthesiometer, and the 10g SW Monofilament Test (MFT). RESULTS: A total of 350 newly diagnosed T2DM patients (mean age 46.4±13.6 years) were included. The prevalence of DPN was found to be 34% using the combined DNS and NDS scores. VPT was moderately impaired in 18.3% and severely impaired in 12% patients, while MFT revealed a loss of protective sensation in 35.4% patients. After logistic regression analysis, DPN was significantly associated with increasing age (OR 1.08, 95%CI 1.06-1.11), increasing HbA1C levels (OR 1.23, 95%CI 1.05-1.42), increasing TSH levels (OR 1.23, 95%CI 1.05-1.44), presence of hypertension (OR 2.78, 95%CI 1.51-5.11), and reduced BMI (OR 0.9, 95%CI 0.84- 0.99). The sensitivity and specificity of detecting DPN by combining VPT and MFT were 91.6% and 84.2%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of DPN was high even in newly diagnosed T2DM and associated significantly with increasing age, HbA1C levels, TSH levels, hypertension, and reduced BMI. Earlier screening for DPN, along with aggressive control of glycemia, blood pressure, and hypothyroidism, may be beneficial.

BACKGROUND: Post stroke, motor paresis has usually been considered to be a crucial factor responsible for the disability; other impairments such as somatosensory deficits may also play a role. OBJECTIVE: To determine the relation between the sensory deficits (paretic and non-paretic upper limbs) and the motor recovery of the paretic upper limb and to predict the potential of motor recovery based on the sensory deficits among stroke subjects. METHODS: The study was a cross-sectional study conducted in a rehabilitation institute. Ninety-five poststroke hemiparetic subjects having sensory impairment in any of the modalities were considered for this study. Sensory deficits were assessed on both the upper limbs (paretic and non-paretic) primarily using Erasmus MC modification of the revised version of Nottingham Sensory Assessment (Em-NSA) and Nottingham Sensory Assessment (Stereognosis) (NSA-S). The motor recovery was assessed using the Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA). RESULTS: The measures of sensory deficits exhibited weak but significant correlation [the paretic (Em-NSA and NSA; r = .38 to .58; p < .001) and the non-paretic (Em-NSA and NSA; r = .24 to .38; p = .03 to .001)] with the motor recovery of the paretic upper limb as measured by FMA. The potential of favorable recovery of the paretic upper limb may be predicted using the cutoff scores of Em-NSA (30, 21, and 24) and NSA-S (5, 8, and 5) of the paretic side. CONCLUSION: In stroke, sensory deficits relate weakly with the recovery of the paretic upper limb and can predict recovery potential of the paretic upper limb.

BACKGROUND: Interleg systolic blood pressure difference (ILSBPD) is associated with peripheral artery disease, but the relationship between ILSBPD and apparent peripheral neuropathy in diabetic patients remains unclear. We explored the relationship between ILSBPD and apparent peripheral neuropathy and examined the possible effect modifiers in US adults with diabetes. METHODS: One thousand and fifty-one diabetic participants were included in the study with complete data on systolic blood pressure of the lower extremities and Semmes-Weinstein 10-g monofilament testing from the 1999-2004 National Health and Nutritional Examination Surveys. Systolic blood pressure in the lower extremities was measured using an oscillometric blood pressure device with the patient in the supine position. Apparent peripheral neuropathy was defined as the presence of monofilament insensitivity. RESULTS: Every 5-mmHg increment in ILSBPD is associated with an about 14% increased risk of apparent peripheral neuropathy in crude model, but after adjustment for covariates, the correlation became nonsignificant (P = 0.160). When participants were divided into groups based on ILSBPD cutoffs of 5, 10 and 15 mmHg in different analyses, there was a significantly increased risk of apparent peripheral neuropathy in the ILSBPD ≥ 15 mmHg group (OR 1.79, 95% CI 1.11-2.91, P = 0.018), even after adjusting for confounders. In subgroup analysis, no interaction effect was found (all P for interaction > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In US adults with diabetes, an increase in the ILSBPD (≥ 15 mmHg) was associated with a higher risk of apparent peripheral neuropathy.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy is a well-known risk factor for sensorial and motor disturbances. Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) which predominantly affects sensory nerves might cause a diminished fine motor function. This prospective observational study aimed to assess the sensorimotor functions of breast cancer patients before, during, and after chemotherapy. METHODS: A total of 56 breast cancer patients were evaluated at three different times as follows: T1 (before chemotherapy), T2 (middle chemotherapy), and T3 (completion of chemotherapy). Motor function was assessed with handgrip strength (HGS), peripheral muscle strength (PMS), and the Minnesota Manual Dexterity Test (MMDT). Semmes Weinstein Monofilament Test (SWMT) was performed to assess the sensory function. Fatigue was evaluated with the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Module Cancer Related Fatigue (EORTC-QLQ-FA12), respectively. RESULTS: HGS and MMDT were found significant (χ2: 11.279, p = 0.004 and χ2: 9.893, p = 0.007, respectively) whereas PMS was not found significant (F (2,110) = 1.914, p = 0.152). Pairwise comparisons with Bonferroni adjustments revealed that HGS was found significant between T1 and T3, while significant results were obtained between T1 and T2 as well as T2 and T3 in MMDT (p = 0.01 and p = 0.042). There were significant results in some reference points of SWMT, though they were not found after pairwise comparisons with Bonferroni adjustment (p > 0.05). Fatigue was found significantly increased from T1 through T3 (Median: 19.44 vs 27.77, z: -2.347, p = 0.019, Wilcoxon test). CONCLUSION: Our study showed that decreased handgrip strength and fine motor function, as well as increased fatigue, are evident during the chemotherapy. SWMT can be an optional assessment in the context of tracking changes in cutaneous sensation during chemotherapy due to its non-invasive, cheap, and easily repeatable features among cancer patients. To preserve functional capacity as well as independence in daily living, precautions and follow up assessments during the systemic therapy process should be integrated as early as possible to prevent future deteriorations in daily life for patients who undergo chemotherapy. In this study, basalt fiber having two types of diameters (16 µm and 25 µm) was selected and added to asphalt mastic and asphalt mixtures using different fiber proportions. The influences of fiber diameters and proportions on the properties of asphalt mastic and mixtures were studied. The adhesion behavior of the fiber-asphalt mastic (FAM) interface was evaluated by a monofilament pullout test, and the rheological properties of FAM were evaluated by temperature sweep, linear amplitude sweep, and bending beam rheological tests. In addition, the high-temperature stability, intermediate and low-temperature cracking resistance, and water stability of fiber-modified mixtures were studied by wheel tracking, ideal cracking, a low-temperature bending beam, and a water-immersed Marshall test. The results showed that the interface adhesion behavior between 16 µm fiber and asphalt mastic was more likely in the fiber failure mode at both -12 °C and 25 °C. Adding basalt fiber can significantly improve the high-temperature and fatigue properties of asphalt mastics. Moreover, 16 µm fiber had a better modifying effect on asphalt mastic than 25 µm fiber. The same enhancement trend can be observed in asphalt mixtures. Basalt fibers with 16 µm diameters can improve the high-temperature performance of asphalt mixtures more significantly. In addition, 16 µm fiber could sharply enhance the cracking performance of the mixtures at intermediate and low temperatures, while the enhancing effect of 25 µm fiber on the mixture is insignificant, though both diameters of the fibers have a minor effect on the water stability.

In surgical dentistry, suture material is the only foreign body that remains in the tissues after surgery, and it can lead to several negative reactions, for example, infection of the wound. The purpose of this study was to compare the mechanical properties and microbiological resistance of mono- and polyfilament suture materials used in tooth extraction operations. The study of elongation and knot force was carried out on an Instron 5969 Dual Column Testing System device. The capillarity of the materials was studied on a setup assembled by the authors manually by immersing the ends of the filaments in a colored manganese solution. A microbiological study was carried out on the threads taken for the experiment immediately after wound suturing, and on day 7, at which time they were removed. The comparison was made according to Rothia mucilaginosa, Streptococcus sanguinis, Staphylococcus epidermidis. Results: monofilament suture materials (Prolene and Glycolon), after calculating the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney indices, showed better performance in all experiments compared to polyfilament sutures (Vicryl and PGA). In capillarity comparison, there was a significant difference between groups (p = 0.00018). According to the sum of the results of three microbiological studies on day 7, monofilament suture materials absorbed less of the studied bacteria on their surface compared to the polyfilament ones (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Of the studied suture materials, Prolene had the best microbiological resistance and good mechanical properties.

Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy (CNO), or Charcot foot, is a disabling complication of diabetes, which is poorly understood and frequently overlooked. We describe an atypical presentation of an active Charcot foot in a woman with a long-standing type 1 diabetes who did not exhibit loss of protective sensation (sensate to a 10-gram monofilament) or loss of vibration sensation. These standard measures of large nerve fibre function ruled out "classical" neuropathy. However, additional testing showed reduced sweat gland function most likely related to degeneration of c-fibres (small fibre neuropathy). This case raises the awareness that in addition to the "textbook" description, in diabetes, Charcot foot can develop in individuals with "minimal" or "no signs" of clinical neuropathy. The onset of active Charcot foot should be suspected in every person with diabetes and history of trauma even when foot and ankle x-rays are normal. Offloading should be initiated until the diagnosis is proven otherwise.

Monofilament fishing lines lost or discarded during recreational fishing activities often result in negative impacts on marine organisms. We assessed the interactions between Kelp and Olrog's gulls (Larus dominicanus and L. atlanticus, respectively) and recreational fishing at Bahía San Blas, Argentina. Monofilament lines constituted 61 and 29 % of total debris items recorded along beaches in the low and high fishing seasons, respectively. A total of 61 balls of tangled lines were also found within Kelp and Olrog's gull colonies. No Olrog's Gulls but nine Kelp Gulls were found tangled with monofilament lines within colony boundaries, seven of which were caught in vegetation. No Kelp or Olrog's gulls foraging in recreational fishing areas were observed tangled with lines. Monofilament lines did not negatively affect gull populations during the study period, but actions are needed to correctly manage their disposal given the relevance of Bahía San Blas as a recreational fishing area in the region.

Poly(glycolide-co-caprolactone) (PGCL) has become a novice to the bioresorbable suture owing to the synergistic properties taken from the homo-polyglycolide (PGA) and polycaprolactone (PCL) such as excellent bioresorption and flexibility. In addition to under conventional monotonic loading, the understanding of mechanical responses of PGCL copolymers under complex loading conditions such as cyclic and stress relaxation is crucial for its application as a surgical suture. Consequently, the present work focuses on evaluating the mechanical responses of PGCL sutures under monotonic, cyclic, and stress relaxation loading conditions. Under monotonic loading, the stress-strain behavior of the PGCL suture was found to be non-linear with noticeable strain-rate dependence. Under cyclic loading, inelastic responses including stress-softening, hysteresis and permanent set were observed. During cyclic loading, both stress-softening and hysteresis were found to increase with the maximum strain. In multi-step stress relaxation, the PGCL sutures were observed to exhibit a strong viscoelastic response. In an attempt to describe the relationship between the stress-relaxation and strain-induced crystallization (SIC) occurring during the loading and relaxation processes, a schematic illustration of the conformational change of polymer chains in PGCL sutures was proposed in this work. Results showed that SIC was dependent on the strain level as well as the loading and relaxation durations. The inelastic phenomena observed in PGCL sutures can be thus correlated to the combined effect of stress relaxation and SIC.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the ultrasonographic features of uterine scars and clinical symptoms after cesarean delivery (CD) using barbed and conventional smooth sutures. METHODS: This case-control study enrolled women who underwent primary CD at 37 weeks of pregnancy or later. The uterus was closed using either double-layer unidirectional barbed suture or conventional double-layer smooth suture. Ultrasound scans of the uterine scar and evaluations of menstrual patterns were performed at 6, 12, and 24 months after surgery. RESULTS: In all, 102 patients underwent uterine closure with barbed suture, while 135 patients underwent smooth suture. At 6 months, patients in the barbed group had a lower incidence of uterine niches (20.2% vs 32.6%) that were also shallower in depth (P < 0.001). Lower incidence of niches was also observed in the barbed group at 12 and 24 months (P = 0.043 and 0.048, respectively). At these two follow-up times, the smooth group had a higher number of patients reporting postmenstrual spotting (P < 0.05) and more postmenstrual spotting days per month (P < 0.050). CONCLUSION: The use of double-layer barbed suture during CD was associated with a lower incidence of scar niches and a more favorable menstrual pattern compared with the use of smooth suture.

Saikosaponin A (SSA) is the main active ingredient of roots of the East Asian medicinal plant, Bupleurum falcatum L. The present study was aimed at delving into the analgesic properties of SSA in a model of chronic inflammatory pain. To this end, rats were initially treated intraplantarly with complete Freund's adjuvant for induction of hyperalgesia. Twenty-four hours later, rats were acutely treated with SSA (0, 1 and 2 mg/kg, i.p.) and exposed to the Von Frey monofilament test or Randall-Selitto paw pressure test for assessment of mechanical hyperalgesia. Treatment with 2 mg/kg SSA had analgesic effects: the nocifensive reaction (paw withdrawal) occurred later and required application of the nociceptive stimulus at a stronger pressure. The analgesic effects of SSA were of magnitude comparable to that of the effects exerted by the reference compound, acetyl salicylic acid (100 mg/kg, i.p.). The well-described anti-inflammatory properties of SSA likely underlie its analgesic effects.

Partially absorbable suture is useful for orthopedic repair as it possesses the capacity to promote a balance between strength, degradation rate and minimal inflammation. Still, the availability of partially absorbable suture is scarce. So far, no study has examined the mechanical strength and anti-microbial properties of partially absorbable monofilament suture made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE)/polylactide (PLA)/chitosan (CHS); hence, the reason for this study with a view to improve knot strength, antimicrobial property and degradation rate. In this study, monofilament suture was extruded using different weight fractions of LDPE, PLA and CHS. In vitro degradation studies were carried out using phosphate buffer solution (PBS). Mechanical and morphological changes were also examined. A standard Fourier transform infrared spectral of 3433, 2909-2840, 1738, 1452, 1174, 1062, 706 cm-1 were assigned to OH group, C-H stretch, C=O vibration of ester, CH3 bending, alkyl ester and CH2 stretch, respectively. Tensile strength of knotted neat LDPE (4.84 MPa) exhibited 48.7% improvement in LDPE/PLA/CHS (60/39.5/0.5). This suggests that a good knot can be achieved to 40% weight fraction of PLA. The monofilament suture also demonstrated better antimicrobial property as the monofilament, LDPE/PLA/CHS (60/39.5/0.5) and LDPE/PLA/CHS (50/49.5/0.5) covered 12.7 mm zone of inhibition which is greater than the standard 1 mm. The suture's morphological phases show dark fibre-like rough surfaces with microstructural irregularities as PLA and CHS were added to the matrix, which is required for enhanced degradation. Thus, the partially absorbable suture produced in this study could serve as a suture for tendon repair.

Context: Living with diabetes can be difficult since it can affect the patient in many ways. Diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) is described as a group of symptoms where neuropathy reduced blood supply and infection leads to tissue breakdown and morbidity. Aim: This study aims to determine the prevalence of DFS and associated sociodemographic and treatment-related factors among adults living with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a rural community. Setting and Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted in an area under the rural health training centre of department of Community Medicine. Methods and Material: The study was conducted to determine DFS by measuring neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease using Michigan neuropathy screening instrument, and clinical examination. Statistical Analysis Used: The data collected was analyzed using SPSS 25. Results: The prevalence of DFS among those with type 2 diabetes mellitus was high (51.7%). DFS was associated with advanced age (>75 years), duration of diabetes for more than 5 years and with foot ulcer. Smoking and alcohol consumption were not associated with DFS. Conclusion: Half of those with diabetes had DFS. People with DFS were more likely to be older and living with diabetes for longer duration. This underscores the need for early identification of DFS by the primary care physicians. Further research on the role of health professionals at the primary care level in educating and screening DFS in people with diabetes are required.

Intraluminal monofilament model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) is widely adopted for ischemic stroke; and Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats are commonly used rodents for preclinical research. Due to the paucity of information on the appropriate monofilament size for inducing MCAO in SD rats and the importance of including middle-aged models in ischemic stroke studies, we aimed to: (i). determine an appropriate Doccol® monofilament size for middle-aged male SD rats which weighed > 500 g following 24-h transient MCAO survival as well as (ii). demonstrate the optimal Doccol® filament size for middle-aged males (≤ 500 g) and females (273-300 g) while using young adult male SD rats (372-472 g) as control for severity of infarct volume following 7-days post-MCAO. All rats were subjected to 90-min transient MCAO. We show that 0.43 mm Doccol® monofilament size is more appropriate to induce large infarct lesion and optimal functional deficit when compared to 0.45 mm and 0.47 mm at 24 h post-MCAO. Our data on infarct volumes at 7 days post-MCAO as well as the observed weight loss and functional deficits at post-MCAO days 1, 3 and 7 demonstrate that 0.41 mm, 0.37 mm and 0.39 mm are optimal Doccol® filament sizes for middle-aged male (477.3 ± 39.61 g) and female (302.6 ± 26.28 g) as well as young-adult male (362.2 ± 28.38 g) SD rats, respectively.

Farm animals are exposed to various painful procedures during their productive lives, making it necessary to implement anesthetic and analgesic protocols. However, there are few studies evaluating the effectiveness of these drugs. Our objective was to compare the analgesic effects of two nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): meloxicam (MEL) and flunixin meglumine (FLU), in goat kids subjected to surgical castration under local anesthesia. Anglo-Nubian goat kids (60 days old) were allocated into two groups: MEL (n = 9), and FLU (n = 8), each administered 5 min before starting castration. All had been previously subjected to local anesthesia with lidocaine, injected bilaterally into the testes, plus subcutaneous in the scrotal raphe. Pain sensitivity was evaluated using the von Frey monofilaments test. Reactions were recorded before castration (M0), immediately after castration (M1), and once-daily for three consecutive days post-castration (M2, M3, and M4, respectively). Pain assessments were conducted in three body regions: at four points of the scrotum (dorsal and ventral; left and right lateral; R1); medial region of the pelvic limb, gracilis muscle (R2); and hypogastric region of the abdomen (R3). MEL goats had considerably greater pain reaction in R1 and R2 over time, mainly in M2; therefore, FLU was a more effective analgesic than MEL, resulting in less pain reaction.
