RESUMEN

The invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lungs (LIMA) is an uncommon histological subtype of the mucinous adenocarcinoma. In this article, we present the case of a patient with a very high cardiovascular risk profile, diagnosed with LIMA, pericardial tamponade due to secondary dissemination, and pulmonary embolism, whose management rouses many challenges. Despite receiving the correct anticoagulant and antiaggregant therapy, our patient developed repeated acute major cardiovascular events leading to a fatal outcome. To gather additional information on LIMA and the above cluster of pathologies, we performed the first research of the international medical literature for scientific articles published in the last eight years on PubMed, ResearchGate, Clarivate, and Google Scholar. As the first literature research failed to identify any case similar to our patient, we performed a second study of the same databases for subjects with lung adenocarcinoma instead of LIMA and the same comorbidities, and we found 10 cases. LIMA is a less frequent type of adenocarcinoma, with polymorphic radiologic appearances on the chest computed tomography, frequently mimicking pneumonia, and thus delaying the diagnosis and therapy. It has a worse prognosis and higher mortality than the common adenocarcinoma, but information on its secondary dissemination and complications is still required.

OBJECTIVES: Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma exhibits distinct prognostic outcomes compared to non-mucinous adenocarcinoma (ADC). This study investigated and compared the clinical outcomes and prognostic factors of invasive mucinous and non-mucinous ADC patients. METHODS: This retrospective study included patients who underwent curative surgery for ADC between 2011 and 2021. Patient characteristics were balanced using propensity score matching. Cumulative incidence was analysed to evaluate cancer recurrence incidence, and the Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate overall survival (OS) for each group. RESULTS: A total of 6101 patients were included. After matching, the non-mucinous group and mucinous groups comprised 798 and 408 patients, respectively. The patients in the mucinous group had a lower recurrence incidence than those in the non-mucinous group (P = 0.014). The recurrence incidence in the mucinous group was between those of grades 1 (P = 0.011) and 2 (P = 0.012) and the OS rates were comparable to those of grades 2 (P = 0.6) and 3 (P = 0.2). Multivariable analysis revealed that the maximal standardized uptake value [hazard ratio (HR): 1.13, P = 0.11] and progressed pathological stages (pStage II, HR: 3.9, P = 0.028; pStage III, HR: 8.33, P = 0.038) served as adverse prognostic factors for the mucinous group. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with mucinous ADC demonstrated lower recurrence incidence and similar OS rates compared to those with non-mucinous ADC. The recurrence incidence of mucinous ADC was between those of International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer grades 1 and 2, with the OS rates comparable to those of grades 2 and 3. An 80-year-old non-smoking woman was admitted to hospital due to persistent sputum production and dyspnea. She developed respiratory failure, and chest imaging revealed multifocal consolidation and cavities. Her respiratory status did not respond to antimicrobial treatment and progressively worsened, with massive sputum production of approximately 1 L per day, and she died 19 days after admission. The patient was diagnosed with invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma based on a postmortem needle biopsy of the lung. Clinicians should consider invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma in the differential diagnosis of patients who present with massive bronchorrhea and diffuse pulmonary cavity abnormalities.

BACKGROUND: The prognostic analysis of lung invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) is deficient due to the lack of a universally recommended histological grading system, leading to unregulated treatment approaches. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to examine the clinical trajectory of IMA and assess the viability of utilizing the existing grading system for lung invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinoma in the context of IMA. METHODS: We retrospectively collected clinicopathological data from 265 IMA patients. Each case re-evaluated the tumor grade using the following three classification systems: the 4th Edition of the World Health Organization classification system, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) grading system, and a two-tier grading system. We performed a comparative analysis of these grading systems and identified the most effective grading system for IMA. RESULTS: The study comprised a total of 214 patients with pure IMA and 51 patients with mixed IMA. The 5-year overall survival (OS) rates for pure IMA and mixed IMA were 86.7% and 57.8%, respectively. All three grading systems proved to be effective prognostic classifiers for IMA. The value of area under the curve at 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS was highest for the IASLC grading system compared with the other grade systems and the clinical stage. The IASLC classification system was an independent prognostic predictor (p = 0.009, hazard ratio 2.243, 95% confidence interval 1.219-4.127). CONCLUSION: Mixed IMA is more aggressive than pure IMA, with an OS rate on par with that of high-grade pure IMA. The IASLC grading system can better indicate prognosis and is recommended for lung IMA.

Objective: To develop and validate predictive models based on clinical parameters, and radiomic features to distinguish pulmonary pure invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (pIMA) from mixed mucinous adenocarcinoma (mIMA) before surgery. Method: From January 2017 to December 2022, 193 pIMA and 111 mIMA were retrospectively analyzed at our hospital in this retrospective study. From contrast-enhanced computed tomography, 1037 radiomic features were extracted. The patients were randomly divided into a training group and a test group (n = 213 and 91, respectively) in a 7:3 ratio. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator algorithm was used to select radiomic features. In this study, 9 machine learning radiomics prediction models were applied. The radiomics score was then calculated based on the best-performing machine learning model adopted. The clinical model was developed using the same machine learning model of radiomics. In the end, a combined model based on clinical factors and radiomics features was developed. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) value and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the clinical usefulness of the prediction model. Results: The combined model established by the Gaussian Naive Bayes machine learning method exhibited the best performance. The AUC of the combined model, clinical model, and radiomics model were 0.81, 0.80, and 0.68 in the training group and 0.91, 0.80, and 0.81 in the test group, respectively. The Brier scores of the combined model were 0.171 and 0.112. The DCA curve also showed that the combined model was beneficial to clinical settings. Conclusion: The combined model integration of radiomics features and clinical parameters may have potential value for the preoperative differentiation of pIMA from mIMA.

Mixed invasive mucinous and non-mucinous adenocarcinoma is a rare variant of lung adenocarcinoma. In pure invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma, multilobar and bilateral involvement are common, and extrathoracic metastasis is rare. Here, we report a case of mixed invasive mucinous and non-mucinous adenocarcinoma with distant metastasis to multiple organs without marked enlargement of the primary lung lesion. The pathological findings indicated high tumor invasiveness and the patient died 10 months after diagnosis despite chemoimmunotherapy. Further investigations are necessary to elucidate the clinical characteristics and appropriate management of mixed invasive mucinous and non-mucinous adenocarcinoma.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to utilize computed tomography (CT)-derived radiomics and various machine learning approaches to differentiate between invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) and invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinoma (INMA) preoperatively in solitary pulmonary nodules (SPN) ≤3 cm. Methods: A total of 538 patients with SPNs measuring ≤3 cm were enrolled, categorized into either the IMA group (n = 50) or INMA group (n = 488) based on postoperative pathology. Radiomic features were extracted from non-contrast-enhanced CT scans and identified using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm. In constructing radiomics-based models, logistic regression, support vector machines, classification and regression trees, and k-nearest neighbors were employed. Additionally, a clinical model was developed, focusing on CT radiological features. Subsequently, this clinical model was integrated with the most effective radiomic model to create a combined model. Performance assessments of these models were conducted, utilizing metrics such as the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), DeLong's test, net reclassification index (NRI), and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI). Results: The support vector machine approach showed superior predictive efficiency, with AUCs of 0.829 and 0.846 in the training and test cohorts, respectively. The clinical model had AUCs of 0.760 and 0.777 in the corresponding cohorts. The combined model had AUCs of 0.847 and 0.857 in the corresponding cohorts. Furthermore, compared to the radiomic model, the combined model significantly improved performance in both the training (DeLong test P = 0.045, NRI 0.206, IDI 0.024) and test cohorts (P = 0.029, NRI 0.125, IDI 0.032), as well as compared to the clinical model in both the training (P = 0.01, NRI 0.310, IDI 0.09) and test cohorts (P = 0.047, NRI 0.382, IDI 0.085). Conclusion: the combined model exhibited excellent performance in distinguishing between IMA and INMA in SPNs ≤3 cm.

Among mucus-producing lung cancers, invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung is a rare and unique subtype of pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Notably, mucus production may also be observed in the five subtypes of adenocarcinoma grouped under the higher-level diagnosis of Invasive Non-mucinous Adenocarcinomas (NMA). Overlapping pathologic features in mucus-producing tumors can cause diagnostic confusion with significant clinical consequences. In this study, we established lung tumoroids, PDT-LUAD#99, from a patient with NMA and mucus production. The tumoroids were derived from the malignant pleural effusion of a patient with lung cancer and have been successfully developed for long-term culture (> 11 months). Karyotyping by fluorescence in situ hybridization using an alpha-satellite probe showed that tumoroids harbored aneuploid karyotypes. Subcutaneous inoculation of PDT-LUAD#99 lung tumoroids into immunodeficient mice resulted in tumor formation, suggesting that the tumoroids were derived from cancer. Xenografts from PDT-LUAD#99 lung tumoroids reproduced the solid adenocarcinoma with mucin production that was observed in the patient's metastatic lymph nodes. Immunoblot analysis showed MUC5AC secretion into the culture supernatant of PDT-LUAD#99 lung tumoroids, which in contradistinction was barely detected in the culture supernatants of NCI-A549 and NCI-H2122 pulmonary adenocarcinoma cells known for their mucin-producing abilities. Here, we established a novel high-mucus-producing lung tumoroids from a solid adenocarcinoma. This preclinical model may be useful for elucidating the pathogenesis of mucus-producing lung cancer.

Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) of the lung is a rare variant of adenocarcinoma characterized by abundant intracytoplasmic mucin within the tumor. Although IMA has poor sensitivity to conventional chemotherapy regimens used for non-small cell lung cancer, we observed a better response to the bevacizumab (BEV) regimen. In this retrospective study, we aimed to investigate the response to BEV-combined regimens in patients with IMA. Among 16 consecutive patients diagnosed with IMA between January 2016 and December 2020 at our institution and treated with systemic chemotherapy, seven patients were treated with BEV-combined regimens. The overall response rate to BEV-combined regimens was 85.7%, with six patients showing a partial response. The median progression-free survival was 6.1 months. One patient experienced respiratory failure, which was improved after administration of BEV-combined regimen. BEV-combined systemic therapy may have a favorable effect on advanced or recurrent IMA of the lung.

RESUMEN

Bronchorrhea is a watery sputum volume of at least 100 mL/day, which is commonly associated with lung malignancies. We report a 57-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital with a cough, profuse sputum. Chest CTs showed crazy paving pattern and lung nodules. Cell nests were visible on the Thinprep Cytologic Test. The case was considered an invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung combined with bronchorrhea. Significantly, the sputum volume declined rapidly and did not rise again when the patient was diagnosed with COVID-19 and treated with nirmatrelvir/ritonavir. This case is suggestive of studies related to regulatory mediators associated with bronchorrhea.

This case report highlights a rare clinical scenario of a 46-year-old male presenting with constipation and fecaloid vomiting due to an impacted chicken bone within an unidentified rectosigmoid neoplasm, leading to acute malignant colonic obstruction. Emergent exploratory laparotomy revealed an impacted chicken bone lodged in a previously unknown rectosigmoid tumor. An anatomopathological examination revealed a mucinous adenocarcinoma with clear margins and one pericolic metastatic lymph node. The postoperative period was uneventful, and the patient was proposed for adjuvant chemotherapy. The abrupt onset of symptoms allowed for an early diagnosis, emphasizing the unexpected association between foreign body impaction and incidental malignant obstruction. This case underscores the complexity of managing foreign body ingestion in the gastrointestinal tract and emphasizes the crucial role of diagnostic imaging in surgical planning. Furthermore, it draws attention to the potential occurrence of colorectal cancer in younger individuals, emphasizing the necessity for clinical vigilance and screening strategies beyond conventional age recommendations.

BACKGROUND: Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung (IMA) is a unique and rare subtype of lung adenocarcinoma with poorly defined prognostic factors and highly controversial studies. Hence, this study aimed to comprehensively identify and summarize the prognostic factors associated with IMA. METHODS: A comprehensive search of relevant literature was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases from their inception until June 2023. The pooled hazard ratio (HR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) of overall survival (OS) and/or disease-free survival (DFS) were obtained to evaluate potential prognostic factors. RESULTS: A total of 1062 patients from 11 studies were included. In univariate analysis, we found that gender, age, TNM stage, smoking history, lymph node metastasis, pleural metastasis, spread through air spaces (STAS), tumor size, pathological grade, computed tomography (CT) findings of consolidative-type morphology, pneumonia type, and well-defined heterogeneous ground-glass opacity (GGO) were risk factors for IMA, and spiculated margin sign was a protective factor. In multivariate analysis, smoking history, lymph node metastasis, pathological grade, STAS, tumor size, and pneumonia type sign were found to be risk factors. There was not enough evidence that epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) mutations, CT signs of lobulated margin, and air bronchogram were related to the prognosis for IMA. CONCLUSION: In this study, we comprehensively analyzed prognostic factors for invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung in univariate and multivariate analyses of OS and/or DFS. Finally, 12 risk factors and 1 protective factor were identified. These findings may help guide the clinical management of patients with invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung.

A preoperative diagnosis of the peripheral small lung nodule is often difficult, and an intraoperative frozen section diagnosis (FSD) is performed to guide treatment strategy. However, invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) is prone to be overlooked because of the low sample quality and weak atypia. We herein report a case of IMA, in which touch imprint cytology (TIC) revealed diagnostic efficacy. A 74-year-old male with a small, subsolid nodule in the right upper lobe underwent a thoracoscopic wedge resection. A grayish brown, 10 × 7 mm-sized nodule was observed on the cut surface. Intraoperative FSD revealed lung tissue with mild alveolar septal thickening and stromal fibrosis but without overt atypia. Meanwhile, TIC revealed mucus and a few epithelial cells with intranuclear inclusions, which pathologists evaluated as reactive. Finally, focal organizing pneumonia was tentatively diagnosed, and surgery was finished without any additional resection. However, permanent section diagnosis revealed a microinvasive mucinous adenocarcinoma. Nuclear inclusions were confirmed in tumor cells. In the intraoperative setting, TIC may be more advantageous than FSD in observing nuclear inclusions and mucus. Mucinous background and nuclear inclusion on TIC may suggest IMA even if FSD does not suggest malignancy in an intraoperative diagnosis of the peripheral small lung nodule.

Background: At present, there is a lack of studies in invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) that combine clinicopathological and imaging features to stratify risk and select optimal treatment regimen. We aimed to develop and validate a nomogram for predicting recurrence-free survival (RFS) and identifying adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) beneficiaries for completely resected stage I primary IMA. Methods: This retrospective study included 750 patients from three hospitals. Patients from two hospitals were divided into training (n=424) and validating cohort (n=185), and patients from the remaining other one hospital constituted external test cohort (n=141) and preoperative computed tomography (CT) image features of each patient were consecutively evaluated. The nomogram was developed by integrating significant prognostic factors of RFS identified in the multivariate analysis. The risk score (RS) based on nomogram was calculated in the entire cohort and the optimal cut-off point for risk stratification was obtained by X-tile software. The Kaplan-Meier method, log-rank test and interaction were used to evaluate the difference in RFS and overall survival (OS) between different risk and treatment groups. Results: Visceral pleural invasion (VPI, P<0.001), lymph-vascular invasion (LVI, P<0.001), tumor size (P<0.001), smoking history (P<0.001), lobulation (P<0.001) were identified as independent prognostic factors for RFS. The concordance index (C-index) of the nomogram was higher than that of tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system (validation cohort: 0.73±0.09 vs. 0.62±0.08, P<0.001; external test cohort: 0.74±0.10 vs. 0.70±0.09, P=0.035). The patients with higher RS were associated with worse RFS [hazard ratios (HRs) ≥4.76] and OS (HRs ≥2.55) in all included cohorts. Chemotherapy benefits in terms of RFS and OS were observed for patients in higher RS group in both stage IB (interaction P=0.012 for RFS and P=0.037 for OS) and stage I IMA (interaction P<0.001 for both RFS and OS). Conclusions: The nomogram based on CT image and clinicopathologic features showed superior performance in predicting RFS for stage I IMA and might identify ACT candidates for personalized patient treatment.

BACKGROUND: Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) was a rare and specific type of lung adenocarcinoma, which was often characterized by fewer lymphatic metastases. Therefore, it was difficult to evaluate the prognosis of these tumors based on the existing tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging. So, this study aimed to develop Nomograms to predict outcomes of patients with pathologic N0 in resected IMA. METHODS: According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, IMA patients with pathologic N0 in The Affiliated Lihuili Hospital of Ningbo University (training cohort, n=78) and Ningbo No.2 Hospital (validation cohort, n=66) were reviewed between July 2012 and May 2017. The prognostic value of the clinicopathological features in the training cohort was analyzed and prognostic prediction models were established, and the performances of models were evaluated. Finally, the validation cohort data was put in for external validation. RESULTS: Univariate analysis showed that pneumonic type, larger tumor size, mixed mucinous/non-mucinous component, and higher overall stage were significant influence factors of 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Multivariate analysis further indicated that type of imaging, tumor size, mucinous component were the independent prognostic factors for poor 5-year PFS and OS. Moreover, the 5-year PFS and OS rates were 62.82% and 75.64%, respectively. In subgroups, the survival analysis also showed that the pneumonic type and mixed mucinous/non-mucinous patients had significantly poorer 5-year PFS and OS compared with solitary type and pure mucinous patients, respectively. The C-index of Nomograms with 5-year PFS and OS were 0.815 (95%CI: 0.741-0.889) and 0.767 (95%CI: 0.669-0.865). The calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA) of both models showed good predictive performances in both cohorts. CONCLUSIONS: The Nomograms based on clinicopathological characteristics in a certain extent, can be used as an effective prognostic tool for patients with pathologic N0 after IMA resection.

BACKGROUND: Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) is distinct from non-mucinous adenocarcinoma, but studies on recurrent IMA are scarce. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the recurrence patterns of IMA and the role of pulmonary local therapy (LT) in resectable pulmonary recurrence of IMA. METHODS: The study reviewed 403 patients with surgically resected IMA between 1998 and 2018. The recurrence patterns were categorized as solitary pulmonary recurrence (SPR), multiple pulmonary recurrence (MPR), and extra-pulmonary recurrence (EPR). The clinicopathologic characteristics, overall survival (OS), and post-recurrence survival (PRS) were analyzed according to the recurrence pattern and LT administration. RESULTS: Recurrences were found in 91 (22.6%) patients, including 18 patients with SPR, 37 patients with MPR, and 36 patients with EPR. Compared with the MPR and EPR groups, the SPR group had a longer disease-free interval (32.5 vs. 9.6 vs. 10.1 months, respectively; p < 0.01) and a better OS (5-year OS: 88.5%, 41.5%, and 22.9%, respectively; p < 0.01). In case of resectable pulmonary recurrence, pulmonary LT was administered to 15 patients with SPR and 3 patients with MPR. These patients showed a better 5-year PRS than the other patients with pulmonary recurrence (86.3% vs. 30.4%; p < 0.01). Notably, long-term survival was observed for one patient with MPR undergoing LT and two patients with SPR undergoing a second LT for a second pulmonary recurrence. CONCLUSIONS: In this series, the patients with recurrent IMA showed different prognoses according to the recurrence pattern. The patients with pulmonary recurrence of IMA undergoing LT showed a favorable prognosis, suggesting the potential role of LT for resectable pulmonary recurrence of IMA.

Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) is a relatively rare subtype of lung adenocarcinoma, composed of goblet and/or columnar tumour cells containing abundant intracytoplasmic mucin vacuoles. While a majority of IMAs are driven by KRAS mutations, recent studies have identified distinct genomic alterations, such as NRG1 and ERBB2 fusions. IMAs also more frequently present as a pneumonic-like pattern with multifocal and multilobar involvement, and comparative genomic profiling predominantly shows a clonal relationship, suggesting intrapulmonary metastases rather than synchronous primary tumours. Accordingly, these unique features require different therapeutic approaches when compared to nonmucinous adenocarcinomas in general. In this article, we review recent updates on the histopathological, clinical, and molecular features of IMAs, and also highlight some unresolved issues for future studies.

BACKGROUND: The prognostic-related factors of lung invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma(IMA) are unclear because of its rarity. Various inflammation-based biomarkers were reported to predict the survival of malignant diseases. This study aims to explore the prognostic significance of the systemic immune-inflammation index(SII), which is calculated using absolute platelet, neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts, among patients with invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma. METHODS: From January 2015 to December 2019, 106 patients were identified as having IMA accepted radical resection and enrolled in the retrospective study. We analyzed the overall survival and disease-free survival using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. Receiver operating characteristic curve was used to find the optimal SII cut-off values for survival. A Cox regression model was carried out for multivariable analyses. RESULTS: The study cohort included 53 men and 53 women, with a mean age of 60 years (range 29 to 78 years, median 61 years). The median SII measured before surgery was 378.47 (range: 79.87-1701.97). ROC analyses revealed that the optimal cut-off values of SII was 379.43 for predicting both OS and DFS. An elevated SII (≥379.43) was observed in 52 patients (49.1 %), and was associated with younger age (P = 0.02), advanced T staging (P = 0.042), lymph node metastasis (P = 0.018) and pneumonic-type IMA (P = 0.018). Multivariable analysis showed that SII and pneumonic-type IMA were independent prognostic predictors of OS and DFS in radically resected IMA patients (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: High SII is correlated with worse outcome and can be a novel prognostic biomarker for IMA patients accepted radical surgery.

Background. The presence of a micropapillary pattern is associated with poor outcomes in lung adenocarcinoma. This study aimed to assess the clinicopathological features of micropapillary pattern in mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung. Methods. The patients were stratified into three groups: the invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma group (60 patients), the mixed invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma group (33 patients), and the invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinoma group (237 patients). The presence of micropapillary pattern and its clinicopathological features were analyzed and compared between the three groups. Results. Compared to mixed invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma, invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma had lower frequencies of micropapillary pattern (28.3% vs 87.9%, respectively; P < .001) and lymph node metastasis (00.0% vs 15.1%, respectively; P = .005). The frequency of tumor spread through air space (STAS) in invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (23.3%) was higher than that in invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinoma (6.3%; P < .001), while lower than that in mixed invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (60.6%; P < .001). When the three groups were all accompanied by micropapillary pattern, there was no obvious difference in STAS between invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma with micropapillary pattern and mixed mucinous adenocarcinoma with micropapillary pattern (P > .05). No filigree pattern occurred in invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma with micropapillary pattern. Conclusions. The micropapillary pattern is frequently observed in invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma and has a better prognosis compared to mixed invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma and invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinoma. However, the malignancy of the micropapillary pattern in mixed mucinous adenocarcinoma was similar to that in invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinoma, even with the presence of mucus. These findings suggest that the development mechanisms of the micropapillary pattern in invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma and mixed mucinous adenocarcinoma may differ.
