RESUMEN

A teacher of adapted physical activity and health (EAPAS) is a paramedical professional. A professional degree in sciences and techniques of physical and sports activities, with a specialization in adapted physical activity and health, is a prerequisite for this profession. These studies can be supplemented by a professional master's degree. EAPAS practitioners can work in the medico-social, somatic, psychiatric, geriatric and functional rehabilitation sectors. In mental health, they work as part of multi-disciplinary teams, with institutional support. They act on medical prescription to achieve psychological, physical, motivational and social benefits.

RESUMEN

The healthcare sector accounts for 8% of the national carbon footprint in France. It is imperative to integrate climate and environmental issues into modern healthcare management. Many health professionals are advocating for more eco-responsible care. Each caregiver can reduce the environmental and health impact of their activity, while evolving in a healthy environment. Nurses have a particular responsibility to contribute to sustainable development.

RESUMEN

With the rising incidence of sickle cell disease, this chronic pathology is becoming the most common genetic disease in France. Advances in care have led to a marked improvement in life expectancy. Caregivers in pediatric facilities are therefore increasingly confronted with the question of the transition to adulthood of the adolescents they have been following since birth. As nurses working in Robert-Debré's transfusion and curative medicine unit, in 2022, adolescents accounted for 57 % of sickle cell patients enrolled in our transfusion exchange program. Adolescence is a period of major change, and the repercussions of the disease are all the more pronounced. This raises the issue of transferring them to the adult sector.

RESUMEN

The occurrence of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is a frequent and potentially serious complication in people with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa and junctional epidermolysis bullosa with chronic leg sores. Early diagnosis of early-stage carcinomas enables limited surgical excision and rapid healing without sequelae. Screening during skin care of patients at risk is therefore of major interest, and any atypical lesion should be shown to a doctor specializing in the disease and biopsied at the slightest doubt, preferably in an expert center for the disease.

RESUMEN

Benefit of a Geriatric Evaluation before Operations, Interventions and Oncological Therapies Abstract: Older patients face an increased risk of complications and adverse outcomes during and after operations, interventions, and intense oncological therapies. At the same time, this patient group should not be excluded per se from potentially beneficial medical procedures based on chronological age alone. The timely identification of geriatric syndromes and increased vulnerability by means of comprehensive geriatric assessment is becoming increasingly important and is already recommended in the guidelines of professional societies of several medical disciplines. Nonetheless, the geriatric assessment should ideally be followed by proactive co-management in the sense of integrated care. The establishment of interdisciplinary and integrated care pathways for older hospital patients can contribute to significantly improved treatment outcomes. In addition to better patient-related outcomes and rising quality indicators, this approach may also offer positive health economic effects.

RESUMEN

The climate of domestic violence is a major risk factor for the health and development of children from an early age, as well as for parenthood. The role of health professionals is essential in addressing this issue. Training on this subject is necessary because it allows them to feel more comfortable in dealing with these issues and to work in an interdisciplinary manner.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The recommended treatment for Eating Disorders (EDs) is multidisciplinary and multimodal. Nonetheless, the complex linkage of the different disciplines involved is not necessarily simple. We analyzed the experience of healthcare professionals faced with psychiatric and psychological symptoms in adolescents with EDs in two "multidisciplinary" inpatient units embedded predominantly in different paradigms - one pediatric and one psychiatric. METHODS: Qualitative analysis of 20 healthcare staff members' interviews from different professional backgrounds working in inpatient units for EDs in Montreal (Canada) and Paris (France). RESULTS: The "Complex patients" theme discusses the need for a global approach to the multiplicity of symptoms presented by these patients. "Management and its limits" describes the daily management of psychiatric symptoms in both units. "Psychiatry and Adolescent medicine: from opposition to collaboration" describes the different levels at which these disciplines work together and how this cooperation may be evolving. CONCLUSIONS: The complex entanglement intrinsic in EDs of the patients' somatic, psychosocial, psychiatric, and adolescent problems requires collaboration between disciplines, but the modalities of this collaboration are multiple and evolve non-linearly in specialized treatment units. A multilevel approach must be offered, with the degree of collaboration (multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary) appropriate to the complexity of each adolescent's issues.

A fixation or a ritualization, an obsession or a passion, an interest or an attitude, in short, a particularity, an affinity, is frequent. This point allows the construction of an autistic subjective dynamic: a relationship with the world, with the body, with others and with knowledge. Meaningful alienation is correlated with alienating support on the object as compensation. For Laurent, it is a "supplementary organ" from which the subject articulates and separates his world. The autistic defense is the "return of jouissance over the edge". The subject seeks the support of a double, in the various clinical forms and with the intervention [of the analyst?] which will result in a treatment of the drives and a vital dynamic. Considering this defense: what is the possible treatment of autism? What institutional support can be offered? How to accompany the autistic? Affinity therapy names what would be the treatment of autistic people oriented by objects, by specific interests, by doubles, for the particularities of each autistic person. The article shows the interest of Affinity therapy, explains the importance and weight of this practice in the treatment of autism in an interdisciplinary work guided by analytical discourse.

RESUMEN

The care of patients, especially in the field of agitation or psychiatry, requires close coordination between different actors. Interdisciplinarity makes it possible to analyse and harmonise the links between various disciplines with the common aim of solving complex problems. This interdisciplinarity must now become a fundamental in the teaching of health sciences and a prerequisite for the functioning of hospital services, in particular in the formalisation of acute care pathways.

RESUMEN

In the 1940s, Wilder Penfield carried out a series of experimental psychosurgeries with the psychiatrist D. Ewen Cameron. This article explores Penfield's brief foray into psychosurgery and uses this episode to re-examine the emergence of his surgical enterprise. Penfield's greatest achievement - the surgical treatment of epilepsy - grew from the same roots as psychosurgery, and the histories of these treatments overlap in surprising ways. Within the contexts of Rockefeller-funded neuropsychiatry and Adolf Meyer's psychobiology, Penfield's frontal lobe operations (including a key operation on his sister) played a crucial role in the development of lobotomy in the 1930s. The combination of ambiguous data and the desire to collaborate with a psychiatrist encouraged Penfield to try to develop a superior operation. However, unlike his collaboration with psychiatrists, Penfield's productive working relationship with psychologists encouraged him to abandon the experimental "gyrectomy" procedure. The story of Penfield's attempt to find a better lobotomy can help us to examine different forms of interdisciplinarity within biomedicine.

RESUMEN

Currently, the most used pedagogical approach in pharmaceutical studies is transmissive teaching, in which students usually adopt a passive attitude. The aim of this article is to present the main characteristics of active learning, and to point how it can be integrated in pharmaceutical studies by the way of team-based learning. According to its different characteristics, team-based learning is an authentic method of active learning. This pedagogical method includes a preparation time, usually individually performed, and followed by the group work itself, in which the case method is the most frequently used. Team-based learning also allows students to work in interdisciplinarity and facilitates interactions between peers. The wide majority of the studies demonstrate that students acclaim this pedagogical approach as compared to more conventional teaching methods, and that their satisfaction increases their commitment in the tasks proposed in the course. Even though the results of studies concerning the impact of team-based learning on student retention and scores in tests are somewhat discordant, this pedagogical approach allows the acquisition or the reinforcement of skills that will be useful to students in their future professional life, like collaborative work and confidence in their ability to complete a task.

RESUMEN

Founded in 1919, the Society of Biology of Strasbourg (SBS) is a learned society whose purpose is the dissemination and promotion of scientific knowledge in biology. Subsidiary of the Society of Biology, the SBS celebrated its Centenary on Wednesday, the 16th of October 2019 on the Strasbourg University campus and at the Strasbourg City Hall. This day allowed retracing the various milestones of the SBS, through its main strengths, its difficulties and its permanent goal to meet scientific and societal challenges. The common thread of this day was the transmission of knowledge related to the past, the present, but also the future. At the start of the 21st century, the SBS must continue to reinvent itself to pursue its objective of transmitting scientific knowledge in biology and beyond. Scientific talks performed by senior scientists and former SBS thesis prizes awardees, a round table, and informal discussions reflected the history and the dynamism of the SBS association. All SBS Centennial participants have set the first milestone for the SBS Bicentennial.

RESUMEN

The change of the nursing training reference frame took around 10 years to be fully adopted by educational teams and their partners. Some pitfalls, coupled with progress in the nursing discipline, show that a development is now necessary. Advanced practice, university integration, experimentations: the scope of possibilities is vast.

Abstract This paper analyzes the professional formation of nursing in Brazil after the 1930s as part of a historical process that evaluates the professions and the professionalization in the country. Through several documents on the experience of the first female students at the Escola de Enfermagem de São Paulo, the movement is thought to underscore a rupture regarding the origins and the maintenance of representations established for nurses in Brazil. Changes were transposed from the new nursing model in the United States and applied in São Paulo as the nursing's intellectual nucleus, center of professionalism as part of joint ventures undertaken during the Brazilian Estado Novo.

Abstract The goal of this article was to describe the role of primary education teachers in dealing with the challenges of environmental education. The conception and representation, accessed through a questionnaire, found that while teachers are personally and professionally involved in environmental education, they hardly ever participate in projects. Our analysis pointed out obstacles such as the theme's urgency, but it also shows teachers' difficulty putting it into practice, mainly due to a lack of training, support from institutions and involvement on the part of the school community. We show the multiple factors that put the environmental educator in a position of vulnerability and propose Environmental Bioethics as an aggregator of different types of knowledge so as to mediate these challenges.

In 2006, in response to DHOS Circular 2005/101, we have created a multidisciplinary supportive care meeting. As available literature covering this subject is rare, we report here our own experience. For this purpose, available files from the six initial months of 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 were analyzed, representing 405 situations corresponding to 352 patients. The majority of patients were women (55,7 %, n=196) and the median age was 66 years old [20-93]. Treatment was curative in 8 % (n=32) of the situations, palliative in 58 % (n=233), exclusively palliative in 31.3 % (n=128) and concerned post-cancer situations in 2.7 % (n=11). The median number of participants in multidisciplinary team meeting was 10, with a regular presence of oncologists, palliative care team members, social workers, dietician, physiotherapist and psychologist. The two most common reasons for case presentation were advice on follow-up and support on a precise palliative situation. Multidisciplinary support care meeting decisions were relatively well implemented, with a compliance rate of 81.8 %. Nevertheless, cases were presented late with a median time of 1.5 months from presentation to patient death. The creation of a cross-supportive care department has increased this meeting relevance and it would be important in the near future to evaluate whether this organization allows a better foresight of supportive care.

RESUMEN

Seeking a second medical advice as a medical practitioner is a frequent situation that should be facilitated to best suit patients' expectations, while maintaining medical confidentiality. The patient and his relatives need to be involved with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The radiation oncologist should accept and help a patient who seeks a second advice, and patients will always appreciate when the physician helps them to seek such an advice. Examples that each practitioner should know include tertiary centers tumor boards, centers with access to innovation or clinical research, or with special teams to take care of specific populations such as adolescents and young adults. In some situations, no treatment can also be the best treatment, and it takes time to explain and discuss such watchful waiting strategies to patients. In case of recurrent disease after radiotherapy, salvage reirradiation must be discussed at a tertiary tumor board and weighed against other options, especially for rare and complex cases. Radiation oncology has gained multiple options with technological advances, such as proton therapy, brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy with respiratory tracking or contact therapy. Radiation oncologists must know the benefits associated with each option in terms of survival, local control or organ preservation in order to address patients to the best practitioner.
