RESUMEN

In the rapid development of sponge city construction in China, porous asphalt pavement has been widely used. The high-viscosity modified asphalt used for porous asphalt pavements is utilised in a complex aging environment. In this study, infrared spectroscopy was used to test the changes in the functional groups of high-viscosity modified asphalt under the influence of ultraviolet radiation intensity, high temperature, and water corrosion conditions. The research results showed that under the influence of several environmental factors, the high-viscosity modified asphalt has no chemical reaction but does undergo physical changes. From the perspective of the functional group index, the carbonyl index is more suitable for evaluating the degree of ultraviolet aging, and the sulfoxide group index is more suitable for evaluating the effect of temperature on aging. The high-viscosity modified asphalt aging kinetic models, established with different functional group indexes as indicators, have different activation energies. The aging kinetic model established with the carbonyl index is more suitable for simulating traditional thermal-oxidative aging. This study provides a better plan to reveal the influence of different environmental factors on the aging performance of high-viscosity modified asphalt under complex environmental conditions.

RESUMEN

Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) is an important synthetic plastic that is produced in large quantities (millions of tons) annually. Additives to PVC are necessary to allow its use in many applications, particularly in harsh conditions. In regard to this, investigation of the synthesis of trimethoprim-tin complexes and their use as PVC additives is reported. Trimethoprim-tin complexes were obtained from the reaction of trimethoprim and tin chlorides using simple procedures. Trimethoprim-tin complexes (0.5% by weight) were added to PVC to produce homogenous mixtures and thin films were made. The effect of ultraviolet irradiation on the surface and properties of the PVC films was investigated. The level of both photodecomposition and photo-oxidation of PVC films containing trimethoprim-tin complexes was observed to be lower than for the blank film. The effectiveness of tin complexes as PVC photostabilizers reflects the aromaticity of the additives. The complex containing three phenyl groups attached to the tin cation showed the most stabilizing effect on PVC. The complex containing two phenyl groups was next, with the one containing butyl substituents resulting in the least stabilization of PVC. A number of mechanisms have been proposed to explain the role of the synthesized complexes in PVC photostabilization.

RESUMEN

Warm-mixed asphalt (WMA) has the characteristics of low mixing temperature and energy consumption, which makes it more suitable than hot-mixed asphalt for plateau regions (the altitude is above 500 m, and the terrain is relatively flat or has a wide area with certain undulations). However, WMA is subject to severe ultraviolet (UV) aging because the UV radiation in plateau areas is more intense. The asphalt's aging changes its rheological properties inevitably, and thus degrades the asphalt pavement's performance. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of UV and oxygen coupling aging on WMA's rheological properties and functional group index. Temperature and frequency sweep tests were performed with a dynamic shear rheometer. At the same time, the functional group index was used as an indicator to compare the changes in the WMA's infrared spectrum before and after UV aging. The results showed that WMA's elasticity increased and its viscosity decreased after aging with UV. Under the condition of UV-oxygen isolation, as the aging period increased, the WMA's rutting factor increased gradually. The degree of improvement was greater than that under the condition of oxygen isolation. In contrast, the time required for the WMA's complex shear modulus to recover under the condition of UV-oxygen coupling was delayed. An increase in the peak value of infrared spectrum indicates that the WMA has undergone oxygen aging. The presence and change in the carbonyl group reflects the degree of the WMA's UV aging, and the UV aging condition had a greater effect on the peak values of the carbonyl and sulfoxide groups.

RESUMEN

Poly(vinyl chloride) is a common plastic that is widely used in many industrial applications. Poly(vinyl chloride) is mixed with additives to improve its mechanical and physical properties and to enable its use in harsh environments. Herein, to protect poly(vinyl chloride) films against photoirradiation with ultraviolet light, a number of tin complexes containing valsartan were synthesized and their chemical structures were established. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, weight loss, and molecular weight determination showed that the non-desirable changes were lower in the films containing the tin complexes than for the blank polymeric films. Analysis of the surface morphology of the irradiated polymeric materials showed that the films containing additives were less rough than the irradiated blank film. The tin complexes protected the poly(vinyl chloride) films against irradiation, where the complexes with high aromaticity were particularly effective. The additives act as primary and secondary stabilizers that absorb the incident radiation and slowly remit it to the polymeric chain as heat energy over time at a harmless level.

RESUMEN

Series of 4-(4-substituted benzylideneamino)-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiols were synthesized and their structures were confirmed. The synthesized Schiff bases were used as photostabilizers for polystyrene against photodegradation. Polystyrene polymeric films containing synthesized Schiff bases (0.5% by weight) were irradiated (λmax = 365 nm and light intensity = 6.43 × 10-9 ein·dm-3·s-1) at room temperature. The photostabilization effect of 1,2,4-triazole-3-thiols Schiff bases was determined using various methods. All the additives used enhanced the photostability of polystyrene films against irradiation compared with the result obtained in the absence of Schiff base. The Schiff bases can act as photostabilizers for polystyrene through the direct absorption of UV radiation and/or radical scavengers.
