RESUMEN

In recent years, the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamonds has been demonstrated to be a high-performance multiphysics sensor, where a lock-in amplifier (LIA) is often adopted to monitor photoluminescence changes around the resonance. It is rather complex when multiple resonant points are utilized to realize a vector or temperature-magnetic joint sensing. In this article, we present a novel scheme to realize multipoint lock-in detection with only a single-channel device. This method is based on a direct digital synthesizer (DDS) and frequency-shift keying (FSK) technique, which is capable of freely hopping frequencies with a maximum of 1.4 GHz bandwidth and encoding an unlimited number of resonant points during the sensing process. We demonstrate this method in experiments and show it would be generally useful in quantum multi-frequency excitation applications, especially in the portable and highly mobile cases.

RESUMEN

Eddy current pulsed thermography (ECPT) has been widely used in the field of non-destructive testing due to its safety, non-contact detection, high spatial resolution and intuitive results. Inductive excitation source is an important component of ECPT and provides high-frequency alternating current to drive the excitation coil. However, a resonant frequency distortion phenomenon exists in the excitation source during the detection process, which seriously affects the output power of the excitation source and the sample detection effect. This paper presents a fast resonant frequency tracking loop for full bridge series resonant inverter which is used to search the resonance frequency in real time through direct digital synthesizer (DDS) and all-digital phase-locked loop. Theoretical analysis and simulation are presented to explain the working principle of the loop. Then, an experimental prototype is manufactured which serves as an excitation source for the ECPT experimental system. Compared with traditional excitation sources, the prototype does not need a water-cooled device and the tracking speed can be adjusted by modifying the parameters of DDS. Finally, experiments have been conducted on both artificial slot of 45# steel and natural cracks of rail and stainless steel to investigate the influence of resonant frequency tracking speed on the crack detection. The results revealed that reducing the resonant frequency tracking time can efficiently improve defect detectability and the manufactured prototype showed more application potential. This article is part of the theme issue 'Advanced electromagnetic non-destructive evaluation and smart monitoring'.

RESUMEN

A Hemispherical Resonator Gyro (HRG) is the Coriolis Vibratory Gyro (CVG) that measures rotation angle or angular velocity using Coriolis force acting the vibrating mass. A HRG can be used as a rate gyro or integrating gyro without structural modification by simply changing the control scheme. In this paper, differential control algorithms are designed for a 2-piece HRG. To design a precision controller, the electromechanical modelling and signal processing must be pre-performed accurately. Therefore, the equations of motion for the HRG resonator with switched harmonic excitations are derived with the Duhamel Integral method. Electromechanical modeling of the resonator, electric module and charge amplifier is performed by considering the mode shape of a thin hemispherical shell. Further, signal processing and control algorithms are designed. The multi-flexing scheme of sensing, driving cycles and x, y-axis switching cycles is appropriate for high precision and low maneuverability systems. The differential control scheme is easily capable of rejecting the common mode errors of x, y-axis signals and changing the rate integrating mode on basis of these studies. In the rate gyro mode the controller is composed of Phase-Locked Loop (PLL), amplitude, quadrature and rate control loop. All controllers are designed on basis of a digital PI controller. The signal processing and control algorithms are verified through Matlab/Simulink simulations. Finally, a FPGA and DSP board with these algorithms is verified through experiments.
