RESUMEN

The unregulated dismantling and improper disposal of electronic waste lead to severe soil contamination by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Constructed wetlands (CWs) play an important role in PCBs removal as a result of the co-existence of anaerobic and aerobic conditions. However, the effects and mechanisms of different PCBs concentrations in soils on plant uptake and PCBs degradation within CWs are unclear. We evaluated the uptake and degradation of PCBs at different concentrations by Myriophyllum aquaticum (Vell.) Verdc. Planting significantly increased PCBs removal by 8.70% (p < 0.05) in soils with 1500 and 2500 µg/kg PCBs, whereas no significant effect was observed at 500 and 1000 µg/kg. PCBs levels did not significantly affect plant growth and PCBs accumulation. The contribution of plant uptake to PCBs removal was only 0.10-0.12%, indicating that microbial degradation was the dominant pathway for PCBs removal after planting with M. aquaticum. In the treatments with PCBs ≥ 1500 µg/kg, M. aquaticum increased the microbial population, altered the microbial community structure and enriched PCB-degrading bacteria. Functional prediction revealed that microbes in M. aquaticum rhizosphere secreted more peroxidase and glycosyltransferase than non-plant control, which were likely involved in PCBs metabolism.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To estimate the effect of atropine eyedrops at different concentrations for myopia control in children. METHODS: We conducted a Bayesian random-effects network meta-analysis based on randomized controlled trials (RCT). Primary outcomes include changes in spherical equivalent error (SER) and changes in axial length (AL), mean difference (MD) together with 95% credible interval (CrI) were used to evaluate the efficacy. RESULTS: 28 RCTs (6608 children) were included in this review. Comparing ten atropine eyedrops (0.0025%, 0.005%, 0.01%, 0.02%, 0.025%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.25%, 0.5% and 1% concentrations) with the placebo, the MDs and 95%CrIs of changes in SER are -0.006 (-0.269, 0.256) D, 0.216 (-0.078, 0.508) D, 0.146 (0.094, 0.199) D, 0.167 (0.039, 0.297) D, 0.201 (0.064, 0.341) D, 0.344 (0.251, 0.440) D, 0.255 (0.114, 0.396) D, 0.296 (0.140, 0.452) D, 0.331 (0.215, 0.447) D, and 0.286 (0.195, 0.337) D, respectively. The MDs and 95%CrIs of changes in AL are -0.048 (-0.182, 0.085) mm, -0.078 (-0.222, 0.066) mm, -0.095 (-0.130, -0.060) mm, -0.096 (-0.183, -0.009) mm, -0.083 (-0.164, -0.004) mm, -0.114 (-0.176, -0.056) mm, -0.134 (-0.198, -0.032) mm, -0.174 (-0.315, -0.061) mm, -0.184 (-0.291, -0.073) mm, and -0.171 (-0.203, -0.097) mm, respectively.Whether evaluated by SER or AL, 1% concentration ranks first in efficacy, but the risk of photophobia is 17 times higher than 0.01% concentration. CONCLUSIONS: 0.01% or higher concentration atropine eyedrops are effective for myopia control, while 0.0025% and 0.005% concentrations may not. As the concentration increases, the effect tends to increase, 1% concentration may have the strongest effect.

Objective: Subcutaneous injection of methylene blue around the anus may help reduce postoperative pain. However, the concentration of methylene blue is still controversial. Therefore, Our study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of different methylene blue injected concentrations subcutaneously in pain treatment after hemorrhoidectomy. Methods: A total of 180 consecutive patients with grade III or IV hemorrhoids from March 2020 to December 2021 were reviewed. All patients underwent hemorrhoidectomy under spinal anesthesia and were divided into three groups. Group A received subcutaneous injection of 0.1% methylene blue after hemorrhoidectomy, group B received subcutaneous injection of 0.2% methylene blue, and Group C did not received subcutaneous injection of methylene blue. The primary outcome measures were the visual analog scale (VAS) pain score on postoperative days 1, 2, 3, 7, 14, and total analgesic consumption within 14 days. Secondary outcomes were complications after hemorrhoidectomy, including acute urinary retention, secondary bleeding, perianal incision edema, and perianal skin infection, and the Wexner scores used to assess the level of anal incontinence at one and three months after surgery. Results: There was no significant difference among three groups in sex, age, course of the disease, hemorrhoid grade and the number of incisions, and there was no significant difference in the volume of methylene blue injected between group A and group B. The VAS pain score and total analgesics consumption within 14 days in group A and group B were significantly lower than those in group C, but the differences between group A and group B were not statistically significant. The Wexner scores of group B were significantly higher than those of group A and group C one month after the operation, but the differences between group A and group C were not statistically significant. In addition, the Wexner score among three groups decreased to zero at three months after operation. There was no significant difference in the incidence of other complications among three groups. Conclusion: The perianal injection of 0.1% methylene blue and 0.2% methylene blue have a similar analgesic effect in pain treatment after hemorrhoidectomy, but 0.1% methylene blue has higher safety.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the analgesic effect and rehabilitation quality of patients undergoing thoracoscopic wedge resection of the lung under erector spinae plane (ESP) block with dexmedetomidine combined with the same dose and different concentrations of ropivacaine. METHODS: Seventy patients undergoing thoracoscopic wedge resection were randomly divided into groups A (n = 35) and B (n = 35). To perform ESP block, the groups were administered dexmedetomidine (0.5 µg/kg) combined with 30 mL of 0.33% ropivacaine or 20 mL of 0.5% ropivacaine, respectively, half an hour before general anesthesia induction. We compared the onset time of anesthesia, the block level, and the duration of the block between the two groups. The number of compressions of the analgesic pump within 24 h and 48 h postoperatively and the time of the first compression were noted. The visual analog scale (VAS) scores of static and cough at 0.5 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, and 48 h postoperatively were noted. Furthermore, the 40-item quality of recovery questionnaire (QoR-40) score was recorded at 24 h postoperatively. In addition, we noted the time taken to get out of the bed for the first time, the length of hospital stay, analgesia satisfaction, and the occurrence of related adverse reactions and complications within 48 h postoperatively. RESULTS: The range of ESP block was wider in Group A than in Group B (P < 0.05). Group B had a significantly shorter onset time (P < 0.05) and lower static and cough VAS scores at 6 h and 12 h postoperatively (P < 0.05); this was associated with significantly fewer compressions of the analgesic pump within 24 h and 48 h postoperatively and significantly more time until the first compression of the analgesic pump was required (P < 0.05). Group B was associated with significantly superior QoR-40 scores 24 h postoperatively and significantly shorter time to get out of the bed for the first time than Group A (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Dexmedetomidine combined with 0.5% ropivacaine for ESP block is better than 0.33% ropivacaine for overall analgesia and postoperative rehabilitation of patients undergoing thoracoscopic wedge resection. OBJECTIVE: To explore the analgesic effects of different concentrations of ropivacaine in transversalis fascia plane (TFP) block during laparotomy. METHODS: Ninety patients who underwent laparotomy admitted to our hospital from March 2019 to March 2020 were selected as the study subjects and were divided equally into a low concentration group, a medium concentration group, and a high concentration group according to the randomized grouping method. The low concentration group adopted 0.4% ropivacaine 40 ml, the medium concentration group was given 0.5% ropivacaine 40 ml, and the high concentration group was given 0.6% ropivacaine 40 ml. The hemodynamic indexes and the incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups were compared. The Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) was used to assess the postoperative pain in the three groups, the Bruggrmann comfort scale (BCS) was used to assess the comfort level in the three groups, and the Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) was used to evaluate the postoperative cognitive function of the three groups of patients. RESULTS: The mean artery pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) levels at T1 and T2 were significantly lower in the medium concentration group than in the other two groups (P < 0.05). The low concentration group had a significantly higher NRS score at T2 than the medium concentration group and the high concentration group (P < 0.05). A significantly higher BCS score was observed in the high concentration group than the other two groups (P < 0.05). There were significantly higher Ramsay scores and MMSE scores in the medium concentration group than in the low concentration and high concentration groups (P < 0.05). The overall incidence of adverse reactions of the high concentration group was significantly higher than that of the low concentration group (P < 0.05), but showed similar results with the medium concentration group. CONCLUSION: The medium concentration group exhibits a better analgesic effect than the low concentration group and higher safety than the high concentration group. Therefore, the use of medium concentration ropivacaine in TFP block may provide a referential basis for clinical treatment.

A challenge in freezing semen for short and long-term availability is avoiding damage to intact spermatozoa caused by the freezing process. Vitrification protocols provide better results through less manipulation of semen and shorter freezing time compared to slow freezing techniques. Our research was aimed at improving vitrification methods for canine semen. Semen quality was determined in 20 ejaculates after collection. Each ejaculate was divided into eight aliquots, each with a different extender. The control extender contained TRIS, citric acid, fructose, and antibiotics. Soy lecithin and sucrose were added to the control extender at different concentrations to make up the test extenders and final concentration of 50 × 106 spermatozoa/mL. From each group, a 33µL (1.65 × 106 spermatozoa) suspension of spermatozoa was dropped directly into liquid nitrogen and devitrified at least one week later and evaluated as before. Soy lecithin at 1% and 0.25 M sucrose added to the base vitrification media effectively preserved all sperm qualities. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of our methods. Vitrification media containing sucrose and soy lecithin cause a minimal decline in quality of canine semen after devitrification. Furthermore, extenders used in our research did not contain egg yolk, which was replaced by soy lecithin, thus allowing for ease of shipping to other countries with strict requirements.

Objective To evaluate the antioxidant activity of different concentrations of alcohol extracts from Paeonia Rockii pollen.Methods The antioxidant activity of different concentrations of alcohol extracts from Paeonia Rockii pollen was evaluated by cupric reducing power method, DPPH radical scavenging activity method and ABTS radical scavenging activity method.Results The amounts of antioxidant activity of gallic acid of anhydrous ethanol extract, 75% alcohol extract, 50% alcohol extract, 25% alcohol extract, and water extract from Paeonia Rockii pollen were 26.00, 28.33, 28.90, 14.98, and 9.24 mg/g, respectively. The sequence of the ability of scavenging DPPH free radical and ABTS radical was Vc > 50% alcohol extract > 75% alcohol extract > anhydrous ethanol extract > 25% alcohol extract > water extract.Conclusion The different concentrations of alcohol extracts from Paeonia Rockii pollen has relatively strong antioxidant activity, especially for 50% alcohol extract and 75% alcohol extract.

RESUMEN

Objective To evaluate the clinical feasibility of localization CT enhanced image replacing plain CT scan image for target delineation and dose calculation.Methods Forty cases of NPC were collected and divided into two groups with different concentrations of contrast agents.The contours of planning target volume (PTV) and organs at risk (OARs) of each case were delineated in the plain scan image,and the contours of PTV and OARs were copied to the enhanced image.Two plans based on the plain scan image and the enhanced image were designed in the planning system of Eclipse.The dose distribution and OARs and MU were compared between the groups.Results No statistical differences were found in the dosimetry of PTV,OARs and MU (P>0.05).Conclusion The image intensifier has little effect on the dose calculation of Eclipse for NPC.In the radiotherapy for NPC,the localization CT enhanced image can be used to replace the plain CT scan image for target delineation and dose calculation.

Aim To study the proliferative effect of resveratrol pretreatment on oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation ( OGD/R ) injury of rat cortical neural stem cells ( NSCs ) in vitro. Methods Isolation and purification of NSCs in neonatal Sprague-Dawley( SD) rats were conducted by suspended cultivation. The third passage NSCs of adherent culture was cultured under oxygen and glucose deprivation for 150 min and reoxygenation for 24 h. The experimental subjects were divided into normal, control, ethanol and resveratrol pretreatment groups. Immunofluorescence was used to identify NSCs. Cell viability was detected with CCK-8 assay. Flow cytometry cell cycle and BrdU assay were used to measure cell proliferation. Results Cells both in suspended and adherent cultivation highly expressed neuroepithelial stem cell protein ( nestin ) . Compared with the control group, NSCs viabilities and prolifera-tion in resveratrol groups (1, 5, 20 μmol·L-1 ) were significantly heightened, and highest in the 5 μmol · L-1 resveratrol group ( P<0. 05 ) . Conclusion Res-veratrol pretreatment can reduce injury and promote proliferation of NSCs after oxygen-glucose deprivation /reoxygenation.
