INTRODUCTION: The relationship between posture and temporomandibular disease (TMD) is unclear. The aim of our study was to determine the influence of manual therapy (MT) on posture in TMD patients compared with healthy subjects. MATERIAL/METHOD: After consideration of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 30 subjects were included. These were divided into two groups: group A comprised 15 healthy subjects and group B 15 patients with present proven TMD disease. Rasterstereographic images were taken at different times. Group A subjects were scanned twice within half a year and group B before initiation as well as after the first MT and after completion of the prescribed MT. The different posture variables were calculated using DIERS Formetric software. RESULTS: To illustrate the differences between the two groups, 10 different postural variables were examined. Significant differences between the two groups were observed in pelvic tilt, surface rotation, and kyphotic apex. Pelvic tilt: mean = 7.581, p-value = 0.029; surface rotation: mean = 3.098, p = 0.049; and mean kyphotic apex = 11.538 and 11.946, respectively, with p-values of 0.037 and 0.029, respectively. CONCLUSION: MT leads to a change in posture in TMD patients. This could influence the course of TMD treatment.

Drumming is a non-vocal auditory display producing airborne as well as seismic vibrations by tapping body extremities on a surface. It is mostly described as an alarm signal but is also discussed to signal dominance or mating quality. To clarify the function of drumming in Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus), we compared the occurrence of drumming during predator, opposite-sex and same-sex encounters. We tested 48 captive Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus) in three experiments. In predator experiments, subjects were exposed alone or with their cagemate to aerial and terrestrial predator dummies. In social encounter experiments, familiar and unfamiliar male-female dyads and same-sex dyads were confronted. For the same-sex encounters, a dominance index was calculated for each subject based on the number of won and lost conflicts. Drumming and drumming-call combinations were counted, and a multi-parametric sound analysis was performed. In all experiments drumming and drumming-call combinations occurred. In predator experiments, more subjects drummed when confronted with the predator stimulus than in the habituation phase. In social encounter experiments, more subjects drummed when facing an unfamiliar than a familiar conspecific. In addition, the accompanying call type and body posture of the sender differed between experiments. Thus, we suggest that whereas drumming signals an increased arousal state of the sender, the accompanying call type and the body posture signal context specific information.

OBJECTIVES: Body posture of patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) has been investigated using different methods, whereas outcome and conclusions were controversial. The present clinical trial aimed to investigate the effects of splint therapy on global body posture. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 24 subjects (20 females, 4 males; age 24.2 ± 4.0 years) with TMD symptoms were examined clinically (RDC/TMD) and subsequently, splint fabrication was initiated. Along with routine therapy, all subjects underwent three-dimensional pre- and post-treatment full body scans in standing and upright sitting posture using a Vitus Smart XXL 3D scanner. Each scan was acquired in triplicate and evaluated in duplicate, measuring twelve standing and nine sitting postural parameters. Influencing factors were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and additional Bland-Altman analyses verified the significance of the ANOVA results. RESULTS: The increase of Forward Head angles and the decrease of Round Shoulders angles were consistent for both positions and sides. Forward Head angles were significantly influenced by limited mandibular mobility and myofascial pain. Round Shoulders angles showed a significant correlation with myofascial pain, joint noises and the absence of limited mandibular mobility. CONCLUSION: The influence of occlusal splints on global posture is limited and only small effects on cervicocranial parameters were found. In the present study, the average head position of post treatment measurements was more centered on the body's core, whereas the shoulders were tilted more anteriorly. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Understanding the limited influence of occlusal splints on cervicocranial parameters underscores the need for multimodal treatment strategies for TMD patients.

BACKGROUND: The conservative treatment of idiopathic scoliosis (IS) may be enhanced through a combination of specialized physiotherapy, bracing, and the utilization of assistive devices. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of the GraviSpine device in supporting the conservative treatment of IS in children. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A cohort of 142 patients, aged 10-17 years with an average age of 12.76 ±1.75 years, undergoing treatment for IS with specific physiotherapy and bracing, received additional treatment with the GraviSpine device. The participants, selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, were divided into 2 age groups: group A (10-12 years) and group B (13-17 years). The mean follow-up period was 28.71 ±10.98 months. The assessment involved changes in post-treatment trunk rotation angles (ATR), Cobb angles, and functional lower limb length discrepancies (FLLDs) concerning age groups and scoliosis location. RESULTS: The proportion of patients showing improvement and stabilization was high in both groups A and B, at 71% and 90%, respectively. In group B, a significant reduction in the mean Cobb angle of -1.83° ±6.88°, p < 0.002, was observed. Furthermore, a significant decrease in the incidence of FLLDs was noted in thoracic and lumbar scoliosis locations, p < 0.002. CONCLUSIONS: To enhance the effectiveness of conservative treatment for IS, the utilization of an assistive device such as GraviSpine may be considered, particularly when the child presents functional inequality of the lower limbs.

OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to assess the occurrence of body posture disorders and their changes under the influence of a physioprophylactic program in children depending on body weight. METHODS: In the examined children, the general and segmental body composition and body posture were determined using a physiotherapeutic assessment based on the Kasperczyk method. Mass, overall, and segmental body composition were determined using the bioelectrical impedance method using a TANITA body composition analyzer. The study group of 76 children was divided due to body weight disorders into Group I (n = 51), in which BMI and fat mass values were within the normative limits for age and gender, and Group II (n = 19), comprising children whose body weight exceeded the norm and/or fat mass exceeded normative values. The examined children underwent a physioprophylactic. The program was conducted by qualified physiotherapists for 12 weeks, once a week for 30 min. The therapeutic program was focused on physioprevention of being overweight and the correction of body posture. RESULTS: A distal distribution of fat mass was observed in the examined group. Asymmetry in the sagittal plane was found in 35% of children. No statistically significant differences were found in the presence of asymmetry in the sagittal plane between the groups. No statistically significant differences were found in the occurrence of posture irregularities between the groups. CONCLUSIONS: There were no changes in the weight and body posture of the examined children under the influence of the physiotherapy program. The lack of correlation in the examined group between body weight and posture irregularities in 5-6-year-olds may suggest the acquisition of posture defects as a consequence of the persistence of overweight or obesity.

Objectives: Conservative treatment of idiopathic scoliosis is more effective as a result of early diagnosis in conjunction with the use of specific physiotherapy and bracing techniques. Our aim was to investigate the effectiveness of specific physiotherapy developed according to the concept of spinal reflex balance using the GraviSpine device. This study is a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data. Methods: A total of 199 patients aged 6-17 years, with a mean age of 11.26 ± 3.35 years, including 168 girls (84.4%) and 31 boys (15.6%), out of a total of 830 patients treated for IS at the Scoliosis Treatment Center in 2014-2019 were included in the assessment, which was conducted according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study group was divided into three age groups. Group A subjects were 6-9 years old; group B, 10-12 years old; and group C, 13-17 years old. The mean follow-up time was 28.71 ± 10.98 months. Treatment outcomes were compared, based on changes in the Cobb angle and the angle of trunk rotation before and after treatment, both within the groups and with respect to sex and curvature location, using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Cobb angle changes in patients were classified as improvements, stabilizations, or deteriorations according to the SOSORT criteria. Results: A majority of patients improved or stabilized after treatment, with 67%, 71%, and 90% of subjects in groups A, B, and C, respectively, achieving these results. In group C (the oldest children), a statistically significant reduction of -1.84° ± 6.88° (6.31%) in the mean Cobb angle was achieved after treatment. With regard to sex, improvements and stabilizations accounted for 81% of cases in girls and 61% in boys, respectively. With respect to location, statistically significant reductions in the Cobb angle were noted for thoracic and thoracolumbar spines of -2.2° ± 7.54° (10.17%) p = 0.022 and -2.2° ± 6.58° (6.36%) p = 0.049, respectively. A significant reduction in the mean angle of trunk rotation was obtained in the group and in three curvature locations. Conclusions: Based on the presented research findings, the utilization of the GraviSpine device as an adjunct to specific PSSE (physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercises) physiotherapy and bracing in the management of pediatric patients with mild to moderate scoliosis appears to enhance treatment efficacy.

Objectives: This study aimed to find if a relationship exists between antero-posterior malocclusions and the level of musculoskeletal disorders in adults, including body posture and static foot analysis. Methods: In all, 420 participants were recruited through convenience sampling (Kraków University students and patients of a local dentist's practice). Following general medical interviews, dental examinations and consideration of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 90 healthy volunteers (ages 19-35) were enrolled and assigned to three groups (n = 30) based on occlusion type (Angle's molar Class I, II or III). The research procedure involved occlusion and temporomandibular disorder assessment conducted by a dental specialist. Comprehensive morphological measurements of body asymmetry were performed using the Videography 2D package and FreeSTEP software, which calculated the parameters determined from anterior, posterior and lateral projection photos. Foot loading distribution was analyzed using the FreeMED baropodometric platform. Results: Significant differences were demonstrated in the positioning of the head, cervical and lumbar spine in the sagittal plane among individuals with the analyzed occlusal classes (p < 0.05). Individuals with Angle's Class II exhibited significantly greater forward head positions and greater depths of cervical and lumbar lordosis compared with individuals with Class III or Class I. Those with overbites had higher forefoot loading. The Class III individuals exhibited greater L-R displacement, indicating a larger angle of displacement of the centers of the right and left feet relative to the lower edge of the measurement platform, suggesting pelvic rotation. Conclusions: An inclination for concurrent occurrences of malocclusions and posture deviations in the sagittal plane was observed. An interdisciplinary approach involving dentistry and physiotherapy specialists which utilizes tools for comprehensive posture assessment is crucial for diagnosing and treating such conditions.

Using two executive tasks, we explored how body posture influences mind wandering, a universal internally self-generated activity. Specifically, participants were instructed to perform the Sustained Attention Response Task (SART) and the Flanker task under three postural conditions: lying supine, sitting, and standing upright. These tasks reflect the proactive and reactive modes of executive control, respectively. To measure the frequency of mind wandering, we employed the probe-caught technique, presenting prompts at irregular intervals. The results indicate that, compared to standing and sitting positions, lying supine significantly increased mind wandering, while posture had no effect on either measure of executive control. We suggest that changes in posture alter cognitive activity related to self-generated thoughts and external tasks, whereas the relationship between mind wandering and executive control requires further research.

This study investigated the role of arousal and effort costs in the cognitive benefits of alternating between sitting and standing postures using a sit-stand desk, while measuring executive functions, self-reports, physiology, and neural activity in a 2-h laboratory session aimed to induce mental fatigue. Two sessions were conducted with a one-week gap, during which participants alternated between sitting and standing postures each 20-min block in one session and remained seated in the other. In each block, inhibition, switching, and updating were assessed. We examined effects of time-on-task, acute (local) effects of standing versus sitting posture, and cumulative (global) effects of a standing posture that generalize to the subsequent block in which participants sit. Results (N = 43) confirmed that time-on-task increased mental fatigue and decreased arousal. Standing (versus sitting) led to acute increases in arousal levels, including self-reports, alpha oscillations, and cardiac responses. Standing also decreased physiological and perceived effort costs. Standing enhanced processing speed in the flanker task, attributable to shortened nondecision time and speeded evidence accumulation processes. No significant effects were observed on higher-level executive functions. Alternating postures also increased heart rate variability cumulatively over time. Exploratory mediation analyses indicated that the positive impact of acute posture on enhanced drift rate was mediated by self-reported arousal, whereas decreased nondecision time was mediated by reductions in alpha power. In conclusion, alternating between sitting and standing postures can enhance arousal, decrease effort costs, and improve specific cognitive and physiological outcomes.

Background: This study investigates the relationship between malocclusion and body posture, head posture, podal system, and gait parameters in children. Methods: A systematic review of observational studies from 2010 to 2023 was conducted and 24 cross-sectional studies involving 6199 participants were identified. These studies were categorized into those dealing with body posture (10 studies, 3601 participants), cervical vertebral column and head posture (6 studies, 644 participants), the podal system (5 studies, 1118 participants), and gait (3 studies, 836 participants). Results: Evidence suggests a significant association between malocclusion and body posture, balance, podal system, and gait parameters. Notably, eight studies found a significant relationship between malocclusion and body posture, while five studies identified this relationship with the cervical vertebral column and head posture, five with the podal system, and three with gait parameters. Conclusions: Overall, the quality of evidence was strong for the association between malocclusion and body posture and the podal system and moderate for head posture and gait parameters. These findings offer insights for therapists to design interventions tailored to children with malocclusion based on considerations of body posture, head posture, podal system, and gait parameters, though further longitudinal cohort studies are needed for better predictive understanding.

Background: Playing a musical instrument requires physical movements that are involved in sound production and movements with more expressive and communicative characteristics. Both movements co-occur during a performance; however, the interaction between the movements is still unclear. Methods: Using motion capture technology, the movement patterns of clarinetists were analyzed at certain points in a performance to investigate how instrumental and ancillary movements interplay. Movements in the arms and knees of clarinetists during a performance were recorded using this technology. The mean angular movements at specific points in the piece, where some players inhaled and others did not, were compared. Results: While the players who inhaled adopted significantly more upright body and neutral arm positions, the players who did not inhale seemed less interrupted in their performance. The results showed that the players performed rather individual ancillary movements, but at specific points, such as during melodic transitions, they performed similarly. At certain points in the melody, while some players needed to inhale, others adjusted their playing according to the inhalation moment to adopt a suitable body position. Discussion: The ancillary movement was consequently interrupted by the physiological necessity to inhale. The findings provide more insights into the interplay of instrumental and ancillary movements during a performance.

Background: Prismatic adaptation (PA) is a visuomotor technique using prismatic glasses that are capable of moving the visual field and to affect the excitability of certain brain areas. The aim of this pilot study was to explore potential acute effects of PA on penalty kick accuracy and postural control in youth soccer players. Methods: In this randomized crossover study, seven young male soccer players performed three PA sessions (rightward PA, r-PA; leftward PA, l-PA; sham PA, s-PA) with a washout period of 1-week between them. Immediately before and after each PA session, penalty kick accuracy and postural control were assessed. Results: We detected an increase in penalty kick accuracy following PA, regardless of the deviation side of the prismatic glasses (F1,5 = 52.15; p = 0.08; ηp2 = 0.981). In detail, our results showed an increase in the penalty kick accuracy toward the right target of the football goal following r-PA and toward the left target of the football goal following l-PA. We detected a significant effect on the sway path length (F2,12 = 10.42; p = 0.002; ηp2 = 0.635) and the sway average speed (F2,12 = 9.17; p = 0.004; ηp2 = 0.605) parameters in the stabilometric test with open eyes following PA, regardless of the deviation side of the prismatic glasses. In detail, our results showed a significant difference in both the stabilometric parameters (p = 0.016 and p = 0.009, respectively) only following l-PA. Conclusion: The findings of this pilot study indicate that PA could positively affect penalty kick accuracy and postural control suggesting that PA could be used as a visual training technique in athletes.

BACKGROUND: It is essential to relieve bronchospasm or specific asthma symptoms by administering immediate inhaler treatment during an asthma exacerbation. The present study compared the effect of Fowler position and forward-leaning positions during nebulization on heart rate, SpO2 , breathing frequency, pain, and anxiety levels in children experiencing asthma exacerbations. METHODS: The data originated from a randomized trial that compared 86 participants (study group n = 43, control group n = 43) who presented to the pediatric emergency department with asthma exacerbations between October 2019-February 2020. The subjects were administered nebulization 3 times, during which the study group was placed in the forward-leaning position and the control group in the routine Fowler position. The subjects provided information on chest pain and anxiety levels before and after nebulization, and heart rate, SpO2 , and breathing frequency were measured before and after each nebulization. RESULTS: The difference in the mean SpO2 measured at admission and after the third nebulization was significantly higher (3.2 ± 1.5% vs 2.3 ± 1.9%, P = .01); the difference in the mean breathing frequency was considerably higher (-6.0 ± 1.7 breaths/min vs -3.2 ± 1.8 breaths/min, P < .001), and the difference in the mean pain scores was significantly higher (-3.3 ± 2.5 vs -2.0 ± 2.3, P = .02) in the study group than in the control group. In addition, after the third nebulization, the breathing frequency (22.8 ± 2.8 breaths/min vs 24.2 ± 2.7 breaths/min, P = .02) and pain score of the study group were lower (0.8 ± 1.3 vs 1.5 ± 1.5, P = .01). There was no difference in the mean heart rate (20.6 ± 16.2 beats/min vs 20.0 ± 15.4 beats/min, P = .85) and anxiety levels (-2.0 ± 2.2 vs -1.9 ± 2.2, P = .90) between the groups. CONCLUSIONS: Placing children in a forward-leaning position during nebulization was effective in improving SpO2 and reducing breathing frequency and chest pain. The forward-leaning position implemented during nebulization is a non-pharmacologic method that supports recovery in children with asthma exacerbations.

Hip-worn accelerometers are commonly used to assess habitual physical activity, but their accuracy in precisely measuring sedentary behavior (SB) is generally considered low. The angle for postural estimation (APE) method has shown promising accuracy in SB measurement. This method relies on the constant nature of Earth's gravity and the assumption that walking posture is typically upright. This study investigated how cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and body mass index (BMI) are related to APE output. A total of 3475 participants with adequate accelerometer wear time were categorized into three groups according to CRF or BMI. Participants in low CRF and high BMI groups spent more time in reclining and lying postures (APE ≥ 30°) and less time in sitting and standing postures (APE < 30°) than the other groups. Furthermore, the strongest partial Spearman correlation with CRF (r = 0.284) and BMI (r = -0.320) was observed for APE values typical for standing. The findings underscore the utility of the APE method in studying associations between SB and health outcomes. Importantly, this study emphasizes the necessity of reserving the term "sedentary behavior" for studies wherein the classification of SB is based on both intensity and posture.

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess specific rehabilitation methods' effectiveness in early idiopathic scoliosis (IS) development, focusing on lower limb functional inequality's role in scoliosis progression. Materials and Methods: This study comprised 812 patients aged 6-16 years at risk of developing idiopathic scoliosis (IS). The mean (SD) age was 10.66 (3.16) years. Patients were categorized into high- and medium-risk groups based on the angle of trunk rotation (ATR) size. Specific scoliosis physiotherapy was used, and the average follow-up period was 28.1 ± 14.5 months. Changes in ATR, Cobb angle, and functional length of the lower limbs pre- and post-treatment were statistically analyzed across three age groups (6-9, 10-12, and 13-16 years) and three scoliosis locations. Results: Significant effectiveness of early rehabilitation was observed in the high-risk group of children aged 6-9 years. In the medium-risk group, significant reductions in ATR were observed in both the 6-9 and 10-12 age groups across all three scoliosis locations. Additionally, there was a significant decrease in the Cobb angle in the thoracolumbar region and a significant reduction in lower limb inequality across all age groups and scoliosis locations. Conclusions: The early implementation of specific physiotherapy may enhance the efficacy of idiopathic scoliosis treatment by attenuating factors contributing to its progression.

Background: this study aimed to examine the impact of interaction between body posture and the quality of movement patterns on injury frequencies in amateur athletes. Methods: The study sample consisted of 89 young amateur athletes. Movement pattern quality was assessed by the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), test and body posture in the frontal plane was assessed by the moire method for the parameters Shoulder Slope Angle, Lower Scapula Protrusion Difference, and Pelvic Tilt Angle. Injury data were collected through completion of the Injury History Questionnaire for the past 12 months. Results: Using cluster analysis, participants were allocated into a either category with good (BPg) body posture or poor (BPp), and using FMS cutoff points (14), either a category of good movement pattern quality (MPg) or poor (MPp). Two-way ANOVA was performed, and the Bonferroni post-hoc test revealed a reduction in injuries among participants from the MPg-BPg group compared to the other three groups (p < 0.05). However, no interaction between factors was revealed. No statistically significant differences were observed among the remaining three groups in the case of injury prevalence (p > 0.05). Conclusions: A combination of proper body posture and high-quality movement patterns is associated with a lower frequency of injuries, without direct interaction between chosen factors, which suggests that they impact injury risk independently. Body biomechanics and dental occlusion are related, but this interaction is not fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between body posture and occlusion in patients with and without dental pathology. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 29 patients divided into a control group and a group with pathology (malocclusions). Body posture was evaluated by dynamic baropodometry, analyzing parameters such as the line of gait and the anteroposterior and lateral position of the center of pressure (CoP). Occlusion was classified radiographically according to the sagittal skeletal relationship. Results showed significant differences in mean position phase line between groups (p = 0.01-0.02), with means of 115.85 ± 16.98 mm vs. 95.74 ± 24.47 mm (left side) and 109.03 ± 18.03 mm vs. 91.23 ± 20.80 mm (right side) for controls and pathologies, respectively. The effect size was large (Cohen's d 0.97 and 0.92). There were no differences in the anteroposterior (p = 0.38) or lateral (p = 0.78) position of the CoP. In gait analysis, significant differences were observed in left (548.89 ± 127.50 N vs. 360.15 ± 125.78 N, p < 0.001) and right (535.71 ± 131.57 N vs. 342.70 ± 108.40 N, p < 0.001) maximum heel strength between groups. The results suggest an association between body posture and occlusion, although further studies are needed to confirm this relationship. An integrated postural and occlusal approach could optimize the diagnosis and treatment of dental patients.

Neural oscillations are important for working memory and reasoning and they are modulated during cognitively challenging tasks, like mathematics. Previous work has examined local cortical synchrony on theta (4-8 Hz) and alpha (8-13 Hz) bands over frontal and parietal electrodes during short mathematical tasks when sitting. However, it is unknown whether processing of long and complex math stimuli evokes inter-regional functional connectivity. We recorded cortical activity with EEG while math experts and novices watched long (13-68 seconds) and complex (bachelor-level) math demonstrations when sitting and standing. Fronto-parietal connectivity over the left hemisphere was stronger in math experts than novices reflected by enhanced delta (0.5-4 Hz) phase synchrony in experts. Processing of complex math tasks when standing extended the difference to right hemisphere, suggesting that other cognitive processes, such as maintenance of body balance when standing, may interfere with novice's internal concentration required during complex math tasks more than in experts. There were no groups differences in phase synchrony over theta or alpha frequencies. These results suggest that low-frequency oscillations modulate inter-regional connectivity during long and complex mathematical cognition and demonstrate one way in which the brain functions of math experts differ from those of novices: through enhanced fronto-parietal functional connectivity.

Body posture estimation has been a hot branch in the field of computer vision. This work focuses on one of its typical applications: recognition of various body postures in sports scenes. Existing technical methods were mostly established on the basis of convolution neural network (CNN) structures, due to their strong visual information sensing ability. However, sports scenes are highly dynamic, and many valuable contextual features can be extracted from multimedia frame sequences. To handle the current challenge, this paper proposes a hybrid neural network-based intelligent body posture estimation system for sports scenes. Specifically, a CNN unit and a long short-term memory (LSTM) unit are employed as the backbone network in order to extract key-point information and temporal information from video frames, respectively. Then, a semi-supervised learning-based computing framework is developed to output estimation results. It can make training procedures using limited labeled samples. Finally, through extensive experiments, it is proved that the proposed body posture estimation method in this paper can achieve proper estimation effect in real-world frame samples of sports scenes.

Objective: Unilateral mastectomy is known to induce postural alterations, yet the temporal development pattern of these changes remains elusive. This study aimed to explore the impact of unilateral mastectomy on body posture. Methods: A prospective, longitudinal, observational study with a one-group repeated-measures design was conducted. Patients undergoing unilateral mastectomy were recruited from a university-affiliated hospital in Western China and monitored for 12 months post-surgery. A trained nurse assessed seven postural baseline parameters on the day of suture removal and at 3, 6, and 12 months after unilateral mastectomy. Two parameters were in the sagittal plane (forward head posture and trunk rotation angle), and five were in the coronal plane (neck tilt, shoulder asymmetry, scapular asymmetry, scapular asymmetry relative to the spine, and pelvic tilt). Results: The final analysis included 159 patients. Baseline prevalence of most postural abnormalities ranged from 50.94% to 59.75%, with mean deviations between 2.74 and 4.51 mm. At 12 months post-mastectomy, prevalence and mean deviations increased by more than 30% and 3.50 mm, respectively, compared to baseline. Postural abnormalities increased gradually in the first 3 months, notably between the 3rd and 6th months, and slowed between the 6th and 12th months. On the mastectomy side, coronal plane abnormalities significantly increased within 12 months: earlobe to acromion distance (Wald χ2 = 45.283, P < 0.001), depressed shoulder height (Wald χ2 = 42.253, P < 0.001), depressed scapula height (Wald χ2 = 31.587, P < 0.001), scapula to spine distance (Wald χ2 = 45.283, P < 0.001), and elevated pelvic height (Wald χ2 = 48.924, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Postural changes are common post-unilateral mastectomy, with prevalence and deviation increasing gradually, particularly between 3 and 6 months post-mastectomy. Early rehabilitation initiation is recommended to mitigate postural changes. Trial registration: ChiCTR2000040897.
