RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupoint massage, acupoint sticking combined with moxibustion at Shuidao (ST 28) for postpartum urinary retention. METHODS: A total of 120 patients with postpartum urinary retention were randomly divided a triple-combination group, a double-combination group, and a massage group, with 40 patients in each group. All groups received standard postpartum care to stimulate urination. The patients in the massage group received rapid acupoint massage at the bilateral Shuidao (ST 28); the patients in the double-combination group additionally received acupoint sticking of self-made Tongquan powder at bilateral Shuidao (ST 28); the patients in the triple-combination group further received moxibustion at bilateral Shuidao (ST 28). The treatment was given once in all three groups. After 5 hours of treatment completion, bladder residual volume was measured; the time and volume of first urination as well as total urination volume after 5 hours of treatment completion were recorded; the patients' sensation of urination smoothness, satisfaction rate, length of hospital stay, and hospital costs were evaluated. RESULTS: The triple-combination group showed significantly lower residual urine volumes (P<0.05), earlier first urination time (P<0.05, P<0.001), and higher first urination volumes and total urination volumes after 5 hours of treatment completion compared to the other two groups (P<0.05, P<0.001). The sensation of urination smoothness and patient satisfaction were also significantly better in the triple-combination group (P<0.001, P<0.05). The double-combination group had higher volume of first urination and total urination volume after 5 hours of treatment completion than the massage group (P<0.05), and better sensation of urination smoothness and patient satisfaction (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the length of hospital stay and costs among the three groups (P>0.05). The total effective rates were 100.0% (40/40) for the triple-combination group, 90.0% (36/40) for the double-combination group, and 70.0% (28/40) for the massage group, with the triple-combination group significantly outperforming the other two groups (P<0.05, P<0.001), and double-combination group outperforming the massage group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupoint massage, acupoint sticking combined with moxibustion at Shuidao (ST 28) could effectively improve urination in patients with postpartum urinary retention, and enhance patient satisfaction.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Oral implant surgery is an effective procedure for artificial implants in missing tooth areas under local anesthesia. Because patients under local anesthesia are conscious during this procedure, compared with general anesthesia-related operations, they are more likely to experience negative emotions, such as anxiety and tension. These emotional reactions result in shivering and chills in the limbs, leading to poor doctor-patient cooperation and even avoidance of treatment. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that acupoint massage regulates blood and Qi, dredge menstruation, and relieve pain, which is beneficial for patients' emotional adjustment; however, there are few related clinical studies. AIM: To observe the changes in anxiety and pain in patients with oral implant after acupoint massage combined with touch therapy. METHODS: One hundred patients undergoing oral implantation in our hospital between May 2020 and May 2023 were randomly divided into control and study groups, according to a random number table, with 50 patients in each group. The control group received routine intervention, and the study group received acupoint massage combined with touch on the basis of the control group. Anxiety [assessed using the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS)], pain severity, blood pressure, heart rate, and satisfaction were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Before intervention, the difference in MDAS score between the two groups was not significant (P > 0.05), while after the intervention, the MDAS scores decreased in both groups compared with those before the intervention (P < 0.05); the MDAS score of the study group was lower than that of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). The degree of pain in the intervention group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Before the intervention, there were no significant differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressures or heart rate between the two groups (P > 0.05). The systolic and diastolic blood pressures and heart rate in the intervention group, during and after the intervention, were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The total degree of satisfaction in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupoint massage combined with touch better relieves anxiety and pain in patients undergoing dental implant surgery, improving the perioperative comfort of these patients and ensuring safety and a smooth operation.

RESUMEN

Background: Uremic pruritus (UP) is a common complication of chronic kidney disease that causes sleep disturbances and increases all-cause mortality. Currently, the first-line medications for UP exhibit inadequate pruritus control with adverse effects. Various acupuncture point stimulation treatments (APSTs) have been shown to be effective as adjuvant therapies in UP, and a network meta-analysis can offer relative efficacy estimates for treatments for which head-to-head studies have not been performed. Methods: We conducted a random-effects network meta-analysis on a consistency model to compare the different APSTs for UP. The primary outcomes were the mean visual analog scale (VAS) score and effectiveness rate (ER). Results: The network meta-analysis retrieved 27 randomized controlled trials involving 1969 patients. Compared with conventional treatment alone, combination treatment with acupuncture (mean difference, -2.63; 95% confidence interval, -3.71 to -1.55) was the most effective intervention in decreasing VAS scores, followed by acupoint injection and massage (mean difference, -2.04; 95% confidence interval, -3.96 to -0.12). In terms of the ER, conventional treatment with acupuncture and hemoperfusion (risk ratio, 14.87; 95% confidence interval, 2.18 to 101.53) was superior to other therapeutic combinations. Considering the VAS score and ER, combination treatment with acupoint injection and massage showed benefits in treating UP. Conclusion: Our network meta-analysis provided relative efficacy data for choosing the optimal adjuvant treatment for UP. Combined treatment with acupuncture was more effective than conventional treatment only and was the most promising intervention for treating UP.Systematic review registration: PROSPERO (CRD42023425739: https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?ID=CRD42023425739).

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupoint massage at Shenque (CV 8) for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). METHODS: A total of 71 patients with CFS were randomized into an observation group (36 cases, 2 cases were eliminated, 3 cases dropped out) and a control group (35 cases). Using a specially made massage instrument, acupoint massage was adopted at the the five points of Shenque (CV 8), i.e. the center and the upper, lower, left, and right parts of the inner wall. The manipulation was given 10 min a time, once every 2 days, 3 times a week for 4 weeks continuously. No intervention was delivered in the control group. Before and after treatment, the scores of fatigue scale-14 (FS-14) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) were observed, and the clinical efficacy was evaluated in the both groups. RESULTS: After treatment, the physical fatigue and mental fatigue scores, as well as the total score of FS-14 were decreased compared with those before treatment in the observation group (P<0.001); the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.001). After treatment, excepted for the sleep time and hypnotic scores, the remaining item scores and the total score of PSQI were decreased compared with those before treatment in the observation group (P<0.05); the each item score and the total score of PSQI were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate in the observation group was superior to that in the control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Acupoint massage at Shenque (CV 8) can effectively improve the fatigue state and sleep quality in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome.

RESUMEN

In the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, acupoints refer to special points and areas on the meridian line of the human body. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the application of unique techniques such as pressing, kneading, rubbing, pushing, and patting to acupoints or massage with the help of specific tools has the effects of promoting blood circulation, dredging meridians, and eliminating fatigue. At present, most automatic massage devices are for large-area massage of the trunk, and few are specifically for acupoint massage of the limbs. First, this paper analyzes the characteristics of traditional Chinese medical acupoint massage and then obtains the design index of an automatic acupoint massage device. After that, based on the principle of a series elastic actuating mechanism, a flexible uni-acupoint massage device and control system, imitating the acupoint massage technique of traditional Chinese medicine, were designed. In order to analyze the massage force of the massage device, the man-machine contact dynamic model of the massage device was established, and the force of the massage device was simulated and analyzed. Finally, an experimental platform was built to verify the massage force and massage process of the massage device. The experimental results show that the massage device designed in this paper meets the indexes of traditional Chinese medical massage, in terms of the massage process and massage force, and verify the rationality of the design.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of Wangbuliuxing (semen vaccariae) combined with massage at breast and acupoint on breastfeeding and lactation function in cesarean section women. METHODS: A total of 120 cases of cesarean section women were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 60 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine nursing. On the basis of the control group, the observation group was treated with oral administration of Wangbuliuxing decoction, twice a day for 7 days; in addition, massage at breast and acupoint (Zhongfu [LU 1], Yunmen [LU 2], Danzhong [CV 17], 2 min per acupoint per time) was given, twice a day for 7 days. The onset time of lactation, 48-hour postpartum lactation volume, breast swelling and pain, 42-day postpartum breastfeeding were compared between the two groups; the serum levels of prolactin at 48 and 72 h after delivery were measured, and the body mass of newborns at birth and 42 d after delivery were recorded. RESULTS: The onset time of lactation in the observation group was earlier than that in the control group (P<0.05), the 48-hour postpartum lactation volume was higher than the control group (P<0.05), and the breast swelling pain 48 h after delivery was lighter than the control group (P<0.05). Forty-two days after delivery, the success rate of breastfeeding in the observation group was 91.7% (55/60), which was higher than 76.7% (46/60) in the control group (P<0.05). At 48 and 72 h after delivery, the level of serum prolactin in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). On 42 d after delivery, the body mass of newborns in the two groups was higher than that at birth (P<0.05), and that in the observation group was higher than the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Wangbuliuxing combined with massage at acupoint and breast could significantly shorten the onset time of lactation, improve the lactation volume, effectively improve breast swelling and pain, increase breastfeeding rate and promote the growth and development of newborns.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the effect of acupoint massage on the recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients after laparoscopic surgery for gynecologic indications. Methods: A total of 160 patients, who underwent gynecologic laparoscopy from December 2015 to January 2017, were recruited. Half of the patients received standard postoperative nursing (i.e., the control group); while the other half received acupoint massage in addition to the standard care (i.e., the observation group). The recovery time of bowel sounds, the first anal exhaust time and the first defecation time were recorded. The plasma levels of motilin, somatostatin and cholecystokinin before and after the surgery were also determined. Results: Compared to the control group, the observation group demonstrated significantly shorter bowel sound recovery time, first anal exhaust time and first defecation time (t = 11.755, 10.400, 11.950, P < 0.01 for all comparisons). Before surgery, the plasma levels of gastrointestinal hormones in both groups were comparable. At 12, 24, and 48 hours postoperative, the difference between two groups was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The overall response rate of the observation group was also significantly higher than that of the control group (control group, 78.75%; observation group, 97.50%; P = 0.008). Conclusion: Acupoint massage could accelerate the recovery of bowel function after gynecologic laparoscopy by modulating the release of gastrointestinal hormones.

RESUMEN

In this study, we aim to evaluate the efficiency and safety of traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. A total of eight online databases were searched to collect studies published up to February 2019. Study quality of each included article was evaluated by the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses were conducted based on the Cochrane systematic review method by using the RevMan 5.3 software. Traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage was the main therapy in experimental group. Interventions in control groups include western medicine, oral traditional Chinese medicine, other symptomatic treatment of western medicine, and blank control. Primary outcomes in this study include sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV), motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV), total effective rate, and neuropathic syndrome score. Finally, 31 trials involving 3284 participants were included. The results of systematic reviews and meta-analyses showed that traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage was significantly better compared with the control groups in terms of the total effective rate, SNCV, MNCV, and neuropathic syndrome score. No case of adverse effect was reported. These findings show that traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage may be safer and more effective for the treatment of DPN. However, due to the low methodological quality, further research with randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of higher quality is required to prove its efficacy and better evidence for clinical treatment.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Cognitive disorders pose a major problem in the aging population across the globe. Acupoint massage has been used to improve cognitive functions in older adults. In this study, the authors performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the usefulness of acupoint massage in preventing cognitive declines in older adults. DESIGN: The authors searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting on the effectiveness of acupoint massage on cognition in older adults in the following literature databases: PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, ScienceDirect, Foreign Medical Journal Service, Cochrane Library, VIP Information, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, WANFANG, and Chinese Biomedical. Two reviewers independently extracted the data related to the study and participants' characteristics and the cognitive impairment outcomes. Only RCTs meeting the inclusion criteria were used in the present meta-analysis. RESULTS: Eight RCTs with 657 participants in total (age ≥60 years) were included. It is actually 8 for synthetic and 6 in the meta-analysis. The authors calculated the pooled estimates of the random effects of changes in the Mini-Mental State Examination to compare the groups with and without acupoint massage. The merged mean difference (MD) was 1.94 (95% confidence interval, C.I., [1.41-2.47], p < 0.00001) after 3 months of acupoint massage treatment and 3.04 (95% C.I. [2.43-3.64], p < 0.00001) after 6 months of treatment. They also calculated the merged MD of the Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised Chinese version after 6 months of acupoint massage. Visual Reproduction was 2.95 (95% C.I. [1.30-4.60], p = 0.0005), Associate Learning was 1.89 (95% C.I. [1.41-2.37], p < 0.00001), Logical Memory was 2.85 (95% C.I. [2.06-3.63], p < 0.00001), and Digit Span was 3.16 (95% C.I. [2.59-3.73], p < 0.00001). The Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions was used to rate the quality of the studies, which was moderate overall. CONCLUSION: The findings suggested that acupoint massage is an effective intervention for maintaining cognitive functions in older adults.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of acupoint massage for postpartum hypogalactia in puerpera. METHODS: A total of 60 puerpera of cesarean section were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each one. In the observation group, 2 cases were dropped out. Finally, there were 28 cases in the observation group and 30 cases in the control group. In the control group, the routine nursing after operation in obstetrics department was given, guiding maternal breastfeeding and postpartum health education. In the observation group, on the basis of the treatment as the control group, the corresponding acupoints were selected from the breast related meridians for massage. Acupoint massage was given since the 3rd day after operation, 8:00 am to 9:00 am, once a day, 1 min at one acupoint, continuously for 5 days. The lactation volume, breast filling, galactostasis and milk viscosity were compared in the parturient of the two groups. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: From the 1st to the 2nd days, the differences were not significant in lactation volume, breast filling and galactostasis score between the two groups (all P>0.05). From the 3rd to 5th days, the lactation volume, breast filling and galactostasis score in the observation group were all lower than those in the control group (all P<0.01). The difference in milk viscosity was not significant in the first 4 days between the two groups (all P>0.05). On the 5th day, the score of milk viscosity in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.01). The cured rate was 64.3% (18/28) in the observation group, which was better than 13.3% (4/30) in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Massage at the acupoints from the breast related meridians effectively promotes the lactation secretion in puerpera of postpartum hypogalactia and alleviates breast distention.

RESUMEN

Objective Based on the theory of "lung and large intestine form", to observe the improvement of gastrointestinal function and pulmonary symptoms in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with phlegm heat accumulation and find the best meridians and acupoints. Methods A total of 120 patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with phlegm heat accumulation and gastrointestinal dysfunction were randomly divided into intervention 1 group (lung meridian group), intervention 2 group (large intestine meridian group) and intervention 3 group (lung meridian and large intestine meridian group) and control group. There were 30 cases in each group. The control group was given conventional treatment and nursing. The intervention group was treated with acupoint massage along meridians, 1 times a day for 20 minutes, and the intervention lasted for 10 days. The scores of gastrointestinal symptoms, clinical symptom scores and C reactive protein among 4 groups were compared. Results The scores of gastrointestinal symptoms, clinical symptom scores and C reactive protein were decreased in all groups after intervention compared with those before intervention, and the difference was statistically significant (F=9.736, 2.980, 0.894, P<0.01 or 0.05). After intervention, the difference of the scores of gastrointestinal symptoms among four groups were statistically significant (Ftime=213.423, F interaction =2.540, Fgroup =3.184, P<0.01 or 0.05). The difference of the scores of clinical symptoms among four groups were statistically significant( Ftime =337.859, P<0.01). The difference of C reactive protein among four groups was statistically significant (F=0.894, P<0.05). Conclusions Acupoint massage can effectively reduce the score of the symptoms of the gastrointestinal tract, the integral of clinical symptoms and the C reaction protein, and the effect of the massage of the meridians and collaterals. The effect of massage in the lung and the coliform meridian acupoint group is the best.

The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>From the 1st to the 2nd days, the differences were not significant in lactation volume, breast filling and galactostasis score between the two groups (all>0.05). From the 3rd to 5th days, the lactation volume, breast filling and galactostasis score in the observation group were all lower than those in the control group (all<0.01). The difference in milk viscosity was not significant in the first 4 days between the two groups (all>0.05). On the 5th day, the score of milk viscosity in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (<0.01). The cured rate was 64.3% (18/28) in the observation group, which was better than 13.3% (4/30) in the control group (<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Massage at the acupoints from the breast related meridians effectively promotes the lactation secretion in puerpera of postpartum hypogalactia and alleviates breast distention.</p>

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the effect of acupoint massage on blood glucose in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods A total of 67 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, using the random number table method were divided into experimental group of 34 cases and 33 cases in the control group by random number table method. The experimental group was given five groups of acupoint massage and "five carriages" management to diabetes patients (control diet, exercise, blood sugar and lipid lowering drugs, diabetes knowledge propaganda and education, blood glucose monitoring). The control group was administered only the "five carriages" of diabetes. The two groups were observed for 2 months, and were compared the changes of biochemical indexes of glucose metabolism. Results After 2 months, the experimental group's fasting plasma glucose (FBG), 2 hours postprandial blood glucose (2 hBG), and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) decreased from the original (10.12±4.15) mmol/L, (15.32±5.65) mmol/L, and (9.36 ± 2.78)% to (6.04 ± 1.75) mmol/L, (8.42 ± 3.01) mmol/L, (6.35 ± 0.78) % , respectively, there were statistically significant differences within the group (t=5.28, 6.28, 6.08 respectively, all P<0.01). After 2 months, the FBG, 2 hBG, and HbA1c in the control group decreased from (11.23±6.02) mmol/L, (16.31± 6.23) mmol/L, and (9.67 ± 2.59) % to (7.12 ± 1.21) mmol/L, (9.58 ± 2.68) mmol/L, and (7.47 ± 1.96) % , respectively, and the differences within the group were statistically significant (t = 3.90, 5.79, and 3.95, respectively, all P<0.01). After 2 months, there was a significant difference between the FBG, 2 hBG, and HbA1c groups in the experimental group and the control group (t=2.96, 1.69, 3.09, P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the FBG and 2 hBG groups after 1 week of intervention in the experimental group (P>0.05). Conclusions To acupoint massage with basic intervention for type 2 diabetes patients can effectively consolidate the hypoglycemic effect, which is worthy of clinical reference and promotion.

RESUMEN

Objective To discuss the effect of applying midnight-midday ebb-flow acupoint massage to patients of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Methods Selected 60 patients of AECOPD in the respiratory department. They were divided into two groups randomly, the observed group and the compared group, with 30 patients in each group. The compared group applied regular treatment and care, while the observed group combined midnight-midday ebb-flow acupoint and bladder meridian between 3 pm. to 5 pm. The treatment lasted seven days. Compared the evaluation of the patients′main symptoms such as coughs, expectoration, gasp, panting and the changes of PaO2, PaCO2, and SaO2 before and after treatment, and compared the overall efficiency of treatment and average length of stay in hospital. Results After treatment, the ratings of symptoms of the observed group in coughs, expectoration, gasp, panting were (1.51 ± 0.23), (1.12 ± 0.74), (2.05 ± 0.29), (0.25 ± 0.18) points, while the compared group were (2.41 ± 0.25), (2.62 ± 0.64), (3.66 ± 0.24), (2.24 ± 0.32) points. The difference in two groups was valid in terms of statistics (t=2.884-4.147, P<0.05). After treatment, the index of PaO2,PaCO2,and SaO2 in the observed group were (80.80 ± 2.16) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), (50.38 ± 6.67) mmHg,0.982 ± 0.014. The compared group was (71.38 ± 1.24) mmHg, (58.42 ± 4.89) mmHg, 0.873±0.027.The difference was valid in terms of statistics (t=2.358, 3.543, 4.152, P<0.05);the overall efficiency of the the observed group was 93.3%, and the compared group was 83.3%. The difference was valid in terms of statistics (χ2=2.466, P<0.05);in terms of average length of stay in hospital, the observed group was (11.4 ± 1.8)days, and the compared group was (15.6 ± 2.0) days, and the observed group was apparently lower than the compared group (t=2.694, P<0.05). Conclusions The massage of midnight-midday ebb-flow acupoint massage can relieve the symptoms of patients of AECOPD, improve patients' index in arterial blood gas analysis and care effect, shorten the stay in hospital and better the life quality.
