Introduction: The tongue plays an important role in mastication, swallowing, and articulation, but it cannot be directly observed because of its location inside the oral cavity. This study aimed to clarify detailed 3D tongue movements during chewing using electromagnetic articulography (EMA). Materials and Methods: The participants were 10 healthy, young volunteers (average age 26.8 ± 2.1 years; 5 males, 5 females). Tongue and jaw movement during gum chewing was measured and recorded using EMA. Four EMA sensors were attached to the anterior, posterior, left, and right surfaces of the tongue, and one sensor was also attached to the mandibular left incisor. The tongue motion during the chewing cycle was spatially and sequentially analyzed based on the motion trajectories of the tongue and mandible. Results and Discussion: The tongue moved downward and to the masticatory side in a manner similar to the movement of the jaw. The anterior tongue marker moved downward to a greater extent than the other tongue markers. However, the tongue moved forward as the jaw moved backward. The anterior marker reached the most anterior position during the jaw-opening phase and the posterior markers reached the most anterior position during the jaw-closing phase. Just before maximum jaw-opening, all markers on the tongue reached the bottom lowest position. During the jaw-closing phase, the tongue reached the dominant farthest position in the masticatory side. All the markers reached the most posterior position during the occlusal phase. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate the sequence of tongue motion patterns during gum chewing.

PURPOSE: To investigate the correlation between morphological lesions and functional indicators in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). METHODS: This was a prospective observational study of treatment-naïve nAMD eyes. Various morphological lesions and impaired retinal structures were manually measured at baseline and month-3 in three-dimensional optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) images, including the volumes (mm3) of macular neovascularization (MNV), avascular subretinal hyperreflective material (avascular SHRM), subretinal fluid (SRF), intraretinal fluid (IRF), serous pigment epithelial detachment (sPED) and the impaired area (mm2) of ellipsoid zone (EZ), external limiting membrane (ELM) and outer nuclear layer (ONL). RESULTS: Sixty-three eyes were included. The volume of avascular SHRM showed persistent positive associations with the area of EZ damage, both at baseline, month-3, and change values (all P < 0.001). Poor BCVA (month-3) was associated with larger volumes of baseline IRF (ß = 0.377, P < 0.001), avascular SHRM (ß = 0.306, P = 0.032), and ELM impairment area (ß = 0.301, P = 0.036) in multivariate model. EZ and ELM impairment were primarily associated with baseline avascular SHRM (ß = 0.374, p = 0.003; ß = 0.388, P < 0.001, respectively), while ONL impairment primarily associated with MNV (ß = 0.475, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The utilization of three-dimensional measurements elucidates the intrinsic connections among various lesions and functional outcomes. In particular, avascular SHRM plays an important role in prognosis of nAMD.

OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to evaluate possible short and long-term benefits of 3-dimensional (3-D) compared to 2-dimensional (2-D) laparoscopy for benign hysterectomy. Primary outcomes were long-term quality of life and postoperative pain. Secondary outcomes were operative time, surgical complications, time to return to work and length of hospitalization. STUDY DESIGN: A randomized controlled trial conducted at two Danish university hospitals. In each arm, 190 patients were needed for an alpha of 3.3 % and a power of 90 %. For various reasons, however, the study was prematurely terminated after including 97 patients. Patients were randomized to either 2-D (n = 48) or 3-D (n = 49) laparoscopy. A laparoscopic hysterectomy was performed. Quality of life was assessed by the Short Form Health Survey 36 (SF-36) questionnaire at the time of inclusion and 6 weeks postoperatively. Postoperative pain was assessed using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and by monitoring the amount of analgesic consumption. RESULTS: Out of the 97 randomized patients, 77 patients completed both SF-36 questionnaires. No significant differences in mental (p = 0.5) and physical status (p = 0.9) were found. The 2-D group had significantly higher pain-score registered in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) (p = 0.004) and higher consumption of oral morphine equivalent dose (MEqD) (p = 0.003) than the 3-D group. This regardless a higher rate of minilaparotomies in the 2D (n = 7) than in the 3D (n = 1) group (p < 0.03). The 2-D group had also higher rate of Clavien-Dindo 2 (CD2) (n = 2) and Clavien-Dindo 3 (CD3) complications (n = 3) (p = 0.03) than 3-D (n = 0). The other secondary outcome parameters did not vary between groups. CONCLUSIONS: The results are severely hampered by the premature termination of the study, as less than 25 percent of the patients were recruited. Thus, no firm conclusions can be drawn regarding the quality of life and many of the secondary outcomes, as the lack of difference may be attributed to a type 2 error. However, the significant differences in postoperative pain and in complication rates suggest a greater advantage of 3-D laparoscopy than originally expected. Despite the methodological problems, the current data deserve attention in a sparsely investigated field, emphasizing the urgent need for further studies.

RESUMEN

This paper proposes an improved initial alignment method for a strap-down inertial navigation system/global navigation satellite system (SINS/GNSS) integrated navigation system with large misalignment angles. Its methodology is based on the three-dimensional special Euclidean group and extended Kalman filter (SE2(3)/EKF) and aims to overcome the challenges of achieving fast alignment under large misalignment angles using traditional methods. To accurately characterize the state errors of attitude, velocity, and position, these elements are constructed as elements of a Lie group. The nonlinear error on the Lie group can then be well quantified. Additionally, a group vector mixed error model is developed, taking into account the zero bias errors of gyroscopes and accelerometers. Using this new error definition, a GNSS-assisted SINS dynamic initial alignment algorithm is derived, which is based on the invariance of velocity and position measurements. Simulation experiments demonstrate that the alignment method based on SE2(3)/EKF can achieve a higher accuracy in various scenarios with large misalignment angles, while the attitude error can be rapidly reduced to a lower level.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have recently shown great potential for photocatalytic hydrogen production. Currently almost all reports are focused on two-dimensional (2D) COFs, while the 3D counterparts are rarely explored due to their non-conjugated frameworks derived from the sp3 carbon based tetrahedral building blocks. Here, we rationally designed and synthesized a series of fully conjugated 3D COFs by using the saddle-shaped cyclooctatetrathiophene derivative as the building block. Through molecular engineering strategies, we thoroughly discussed the influences of key factors including the donor-acceptor structure, hydrophilicity, specific surface areas, as well as the conjugated/non-conjugated structures on their photocatalytic hydrogen evolution properties. The as-synthesized fully conjugated 3D COFs could generate the hydrogen up to 40.36 mmol h-1 g-1. This is the first report on intrinsic metal-free 3D COFs in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution application. Our work provides insight on the structure design of 3D COFs for highly-efficient photocatalysis, and also reveals that the semiconducting fully conjugated 3D COFs could be a useful platform in clear energy-related fields.

In this work, the Mn, Co, Ce co-doped corn cob biochar (MCCBC) as catalytic particle electrodes in a three-dimensional heterogeneous electro-Fenton-like (3D-HEFL) system for the efficient degradation of coking wastewater was investigated. Various characterization methods such as SEM, EDS, XRD, XPS and electrochemical analysis were employed for the prepared materials. The results showed that the MCCBC particle electrodes had excellent electrochemical degradation performances of COD in coking wastewater, and the COD removal and degradation rates of the 3D/HEFL system were 85.35% and 0.0563 min-1 respectively. RSM optimized conditions revealed higher COD removal rate at 89.23% after 31.6 min of electrolysis. The efficient degradability and wide adaptability of the 3D/HEFL system were due to its beneficial coupling mechanism, including the synergistic effect between the system factors (3D and HEFL) as well as the synergistic interactions between the ROS (dominated by •OH and supplemented by O2•-) in the system. Moreover, the COD removal rate of MCCBC could still remain at 81.41% after 5 cycles with a lower ion leaching and a specific energy consumption of 11.28 kWh kg-1 COD. The superior performance of MCCBC, as catalytic particle electrodes showed a great potential for engineering applications for the advanced treatment of coking wastewater.

INTRODUCTION: This study was designed to compare three-dimensional (3D) laparoscopy and conventional two-dimensional (2D) laparoscopy in surgical performance and clinical assessment during laparoscopic radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy (LRHND) for treating early-stage cervical cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this study, we included 67 consecutive patients underwent LRHND for treating early-stage cervical cancer by the experienced laparoscopic surgeons between August 2018 and December 2020. amongst these patients, 32 patients underwent 3D laparoscopy (2D group) and 35 patients underwent 2D laparoscopy (2D group). Demographic data, clinical and surgical parameters were obtained from each patient. An end-of-operation questionnaire was administered regarding subjective perception of 3D laparoscopy system. RESULTS: Patient characteristics, including age, BMI, FIGO stage, and histology, were comparable between the two groups. Compared with 2D imaging system, 3D system significantly shortened the operation time, especially bilateral lymph node dissection time. Blood loss was lower in 3D group compared with 2D group. There were no significant differences regarding pelvic nodes retrieved, incidence of complications, hospital stay, the recovery time of bowel, abdominal drainage fluid, hospitalization costs and visual symptoms. In addition, 3D system significantly improved depth perception and precision, and reduced surgical strain and eye strain for surgeon. No statistical difference was observed in visual symptoms and adverse events between the two groups. The surgeon was more willing to accept 3D laparoscopy. CONCLUSION: The 3D laparoscopy is safe, feasible and comfortable, with obvious advantage in depth perception, precision and surgical strain. It triggered no increase in the complications and adverse events.

Background: While cementless short stems have become popular in total hip arthroplasty (THA), Metha is a relatively recent development that differs from other short stems in its initial fixation concept of partial collum-sparing metaphyseal anchorage. The purpose of this study was to quantify the contact state between Metha and the femur. Additionally, we investigated the difference in contact points between Meta and Fitmore, which is one of the more popular curved short stems. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 42 hips that underwent THA using Metha and 41 hips using Fitmore. Stem-to-femur contact was evaluated by density mapping using a three-dimensional digital template system to quantify the contact condition according to the modified Gruen zone. The criterion for the stem-to-bone contact boundary was defined as a computed tomography value of 543 Hounsfield. Results: Quantitative evaluation of Metha according to the modified Gruen zones showed the ratio of surface area with high cortical contact in each zone. The results were 4.6% ± 5.7% in zone 1, 0.9% ± 2.3% in zone 2, 19.1% ± 12.9% in zone 3, 1.4% ± 3.2% in zone 5, 29.6% ± 16.4% in zone 6, and 25.1% ± 17.7% in zones 7. Evaluation of Fitmore for the same zones was as follows: 1.6% ± 2.4%, 18.5% ± 16.9%, 20.8% ± 17.4%, 12.7% ± 12.8%, 3.7% ± 5.8%, and 13.3% ± 10.3%. Comparing the two groups, the contact area was significantly greater for Metha in zones 1, 6 and 7 and Fitmore in zones 2 and 5 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: It is possible for Metha to achieve metaphyseal anchoring by contacting the cortical bone at the proximal femur, thus avoiding proximal offloading. To the best of our knowledge, no previous studies have quantitatively reported stem-to-cortical bone contact conditions in curved short stems.

BACKGROUND: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have found promising applications in separation fields due to their large surface area and high adsorption capacity, but the exiting COFs can not be directly used as the packing materials of on-line solid-phase extraction (SPE) coupled to HPLC and HPLC because their nano/submicron size or irregular shapes might cause ultrahigh column back pressure and low column efficiency. To synthesize the large-size spherical COFs larger than 3 µm as sorbents might be able to address these problems, however it is still a great challenge till now. RESULTS: In this work, two large-size spherical 3D COFs (COF-320 and COF-300) were size-controllably synthesized within 10-90 µm via a two-step strategy. These two spherical COFs showed large surface area, fine crystallinity, good chemical/mechanical stability, and good reproducibility. As an application case, when used as the on-line SPE sorbents coupled to HPLC, the large-size spherical COF-320 displayed high binding capacity for bisphenol F (Qmax of 452.49 mg/g), low column back pressure (6-8 psi at flow rate of 1 mL/min), and good reusability (at least 30 cycles). The developed on-line-SPE-HPLC-UV method presented good analytical performance with enrichment factor of 667 folds, linear range of 1.0-400 ng/mL, limit of detection (LOD, S/N = 3) of 0.3 ng/mL, limit of quantification (LOQ, S/N = 10) of 1.0 ng/mL, and recoveries of 100.3-103.2 % (RSDs of 2.0-3.5 %) and 95.2-97.0 % (RSDs of 4.3-5.6 %) for tap water and lake water samples, respectively. SIGNIFICANCE: This is the first case to synthesize the large-size spherical COFs within 10-90 µm, and this work made it possible to directly use COFs as the filling materials of on-line SPE coupled to HPLC and HPLC. The developed analytical method can be potentially applied to the rapid and sensitive detection of trace bisphenol F in environmental water samples.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the difference of three-dimensional (3D) reconstructed palatal morphology between subjects with skeletal Class III and skeletal Class I in different vertical patterns using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS: In this study, 89 subjects with skeletal Class III (49 females, 40 males; 25.45 ± 3.81 years) and 85 subjects with skeletal Class I (45 females, 40 males; 23.95 ± 4.45 years) were collected retrospectively and divided into hyperdivergent, normodivergent and hypodivergent groups. Dolphin software was used to reorient the CBCT images of these subjects. After segmenting 3D object of maxilla from the 3D skull by ProPlan software, Geomagic Studio was used to reconstruct 3D palatal morphology and establish an average 3D palatal morphology for each group. The differences of 3D palatal morphology between different groups were compared by deviation patterns on 3D colored map analysis. RESULTS: 3D colored map analysis showed the posterior part of male's palate was higher and wider than that of female's palate in skeletal Class III subjects. In skeletal Class III subjects, males with hyperdivergent pattern had a higher and narrower palate compared with hypodivergent subjects, while females with hyperdivergent had a higher but not obviously narrower palate compared with hypodivergent subjects. In the similar vertical patterns, skeletal Class III subjects had a flatter but not narrower palate compared with skeletal Class I subjects, along with a smaller palate volume. CONCLUSIONS: This method allows more intuitive between-group comparisons of the differences of 3D palatal morphology. In skeletal Class III subjects, as the vertical dimension increased, the palate tends to be higher and narrower. Therefore, the influence of vertical patterns on the palatal morphology should be fully considered in the orthodontic and orthognathic treatment of skeletal Class III subjects.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to investigate the changes of choroidal blood perfusion in different layers and quadrants and its possible related factors after 1 h visual task by augmented reality (AR) device in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) mode, respectively. METHODS: Thirty healthy subjects aged 22-37 years watched the same video source in 2D and 3D mode separately using AR glasses for 1 h with a one-week interval. Swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) was performed before and immediately after watching to acquire choroidal thickness (ChT), three-dimensional choroidal vascularity index (CVI) of large- and middle-sized choroidal vessels and choriocapillaris flow voids (FV%) at macular and peripapillary area. Near point of accommodation (NPA) and accommodative facility (AF) were examined to evaluate the accommodative ability. Pupil diameters by infrared-automated pupillometer under scotopic, mesopic and photopic condition were also obtained. RESULTS: Compared with pre-visual task, the subfoveal CVI decreased from 0.406 ± 0.097 to 0.360 ± 0.102 after 2D watching (p < 0.001) and to 0.368 ± 0.102 after 3D watching (p = 0.002). Pupil sizes under different illuminance conditions became smaller after both 2D and 3D watching (all p < 0.001). AF increased after both 2D and 3D watching (both p < 0.05). NPA receded in post-3D watching (p = 0.017) while a not significant tendency was observed in post-2D. CONCLUSION: A reduction in subfoveal choroidal blood flow accompanied with pupil constriction was observed immediately after 1 h visual task using AR glasses in 2D and 3D mode. Accommodative facility improved after 2D and 3D watching with AR glasses, whereas decrease in the maximum accommodation power was only found in 3D mode.

Objective:To investigate the dosimetry effect of rotational errors of multi-channel cylinder vaginal applicator of intravaginal irradiation after surgery of endometrial cancer.Methods:A total of 18 patients who underwent surgery of endometrial cancer at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from June to December 2022 were selected.The plans of patients who adopted the treatment of multi-channel cylinder applicator of vagina were retrospectively analyzed,which maintained the same retained mode with clinical plan.The applicator was rotated clockwise by 22.5? and 45.0?,respectively,simulating the rotational errors that occurred in placing the applicator among clinical inter-fractions.And then,the changes of dosimetry of target area and organs at risk(OAR)under two kinds of rotation amplitudes were further analyzed.Results:When the applicator was rotated as 22.5?,the minimum doses to 90%volumes of CTV by 2.03%than that of clinical plan,which was significantly different(t=5.86,P<0.05),and the maximal doses to 2cc of OARs of bladder and rectum respectively increased 2.35%and 2.71%,and the differences of them were statistically significant(t=-3.49,-2.40,P<0.05),respectively.When the applicator was rotated as 45?,the D90 of the target area decreased by 5.75%than that of clinical plan,which was statistically significant(t=14.07,P<0.05).The D2cc values of the bladder and rectum increased respectively by 6.50%and 9.49%than that of clinical plan,which were statistically significant(t=-7.72,-6.9,P<0.05).The differences of the exposed doses of sigmoid colon and small intestine after the applicator was rotated by 22.5? and 45.0? between the plan and original plan were respectively less,which were not statistical significance.Conclusion:The multi-channel cylinder applicator can provide individualized dose distribution in intravaginal irradiation.However,attention should be paid to the placement of the applicator when patients undergo inter-fractional treatment,in order to avoid deviations in the angular alignment from the original plan.This can impact the dosages of the target area and OARs.

Objective:To make an individual phantom that was printed by using three dimension(3D)technique,which could reflect the real situation of patient,and to analyze the computed tomography(CT)value and dose distribution of radiotherapy on each organ of the inside of the 3D-printed individual phantom.Methods:According to the localization of CT image of the patient,the empty shell of 3D structure of each organ were reconstructed and printed by using 3D technique.The CT value was used as basis to select the equivalent material of each organ to perform fill,which could obtain the individual phantom of chest that could appear the structural characteristics of patient.The treatment plan of patients were included in treatment plan group,and the plans which were transplanted to 3D-printed individual phantom from treatment plan of patients were included in phantom plan group.The dosimetric parameters of the plans of two groups were compared.Results:The average CT values of left and right lung,soft tissue,cancellous bone,compact bone and heart of the phantom plan group were respectively-709,-737,14,144,760 and 28 HU.The errors of the all CT values between phantom images and located images of patients were less than 16.7%.The exposure doses of normal tissues of radiotherapy plans on the images of two groups could meet the clinical requirements.The minimum dose(Dmin),mean dose(Dmean),the corresponding doses of 98%,50% and 2% target volumes(D98%,D50% and D2%),conformity index(CI),homogeneity index(HI),monitor unit(MU)of dosimetric parameters of the target region could meet the clinical requirements without statistically significant differences.There was significant differences in the maximum dose(Dmax)of the target region(t=2.678,P<0.05).Among of these Dmax values,the Dmax value of phantom plan group was larger,which was(56.97±0.32)Gy.Conclusion:The CT value,tissue structure and spatial distribution of the phantom,which is finally designed,can emulate the chest of human body in radiotherapy.It has verified the feasibility that 3D-printed phantom is applied in measuring dose in the quality assurance of radiotherapy.

Objective:To explore the evaluation of dual-parameter three dimension arterial spin labelling(3D-ASL)perfusion imaging on blood-supply situation of patients with chronic middle cerebral artery occlusion(CMCAO)and the relationship between that and cerebral infarction area.Methods:A total of 112 patients with unilateral CMCAO admitted to Handan Central Hospital from April 2019 to December 2021 were selected,and all of them were divided into a compensatory group(50 cases)with anterior cerebral artery(ACA)leptomeningeal anastomoses(LMA)and an uncompensated group(62 cases)according to the results of digital subtraction angiography(DSA)examination.The results of diffusion weighted imaging(DWI),magnetic resonance angiography(MRA)and dual-parameter 3D-ASL detection were respectively analyzed,and the clinical data,3D-ASL parameters and the incidence of cerebral infarction between the two groups were compared.The influence factors of compensation were further analyzed.The receiver operating characteristics(ROC)curve of LMA diagnostic value of CMCAO patients was drawn according to cerebral blood flow values[post label delay(PLD)=1.5 s,2.5 s)].The 3D-ASL parameters of patients with different cerebral infarction areas were compared,and the relationship between 3D-ASL parameters and cerebral infarction area was compared.Results:The apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)at the side of lesion of CMCAO patients was(0.31±0.10),and cerebral blood flow values at 1.5s and 2.5s were respectively(25.67±4.25)and(54.09±4.49),which were significantly lower than those at the side of healthy,and the differences were statistically significant(t=27.591,34.210,3.913,P<0.05),respectively.The differences of cerebral blood flow values(1.5s and 2.5s)between compensatory group and uncompensated group were significant(t=5.584,4.090,P<0.05),respectively.The results of logistic regression analysis showed that age,stroke,cerebral infarction area and cerebral blood flow values(1.5 s and 2.5 s)were influencing factors on LMA compensation of CMCAO patients(OR=4.187,6.604,0.482,5.681,5.807,P<0.05),respectively.The ROC values showed that the area under curve(AUC)of 3D-ASL were respectively 0.720 and 0.812 in diagnosing LMA when PLD were respectively 1.5s and 2.5s.The proportion of normal and lacunar infarctions in the compensatory group was significantly higher than that in the uncompensated group,while the proportions of middle and small infarction,and large area infarctions of the compensatory group were significantly lower than those of the uncompensated group,and the difference was statistically significant(t=28.062,P<0.05).The difference in cerebral blood flow values(1.5s)among patients with different infarct areas was statistically significant(t=0.202,P<0.05).The cerebral blood flow value(1.5s)of 3D-ASL was negatively correlated with the area of cerebral infarction(r=-0.261,P<0.05).Conclusion:Dual parameter 3D-ASL can non-invasively and visually assess the compensatory status of LMA of patients with unilateral CMCAO.The blood flow perfusion of middle cerebral artery(MCA)at the side of lesion is related to the area of cerebral infarction.When the PLD is 1.5s,the sensitive response can be conducted on this,so as to provide objective and reliable basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment and curative effect.

Objectives: The ankle kinematic characteristics of chronic ankle instability (CAI) at different gait phases and dimensions were not directly and overall explained. These characteristics have yet to be established. This study aimed to observe ankle kinematic changes of CAI, and explore their mechanisms, at different gait phases and dimensions in full gait cycle. Methods: A three-dimensional (3D) motion capture system measured the 3D ankle movements of 53 individuals with CAI (meanage = 25.11 ± 6.01years, meanheight = 170.77 ± 7.80 cm, meanmass = 64.28 ± 9.28 kg) and 53 healthy controls (meanage = 24.66 ± 6.32 years, meanheight = 169.98 ± 9.00 cm, meanmass = 63.11 ± 9.62 kg) during barefoot walking overground at a self-selected speed. Once the acquisition results were processed with visual 3D software, the kinematics data were exported, and the eight phases of the gait cycle were identified. Results: As compared with the control group, individuals with CAI displayed a significantly smaller plantarflexion in toe off (P = 0.049, Cohen's d = 0.387), a significantly increased inversion in heel strike (P = 0.007, Cohen's d = 0.271) and initial swing (P = 0.035, Cohen's d = 0.233), mid-swing (P = 0.019, Cohen's d = 0.232) and end-swing (P = 0.021, Cohen's d = 0.214), and significantly smaller eversion in mid stance(P = 0.010, Cohen's d = 0.288)and heel off (P = 0.033, Cohen's d = 0.089). Significant between-group differences in ankle kinematics were observed in the sagittal and frontal planes, but not in the horizontal plane, during walking. Conclusion: When walking, patients with CAI have altered sagittal- and frontal-plane kinematics during different stance and swing phases. These kinematic changes require multi-dimensional, dynamic, continuous functional assessment and specialized rehabilitation intervention.

OBJECTIVE: Stereo-electroencephalography-guided three-dimensional radiofrequency thermocoagulation (SEEG-3D RFTC) is a minimally invasive treatment for mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis (MTLE-HS). This study aimed to investigate the long-term prognosis after SEEG-3D RFTC treatment in patients with MTLE-HS. METHODS: This single-center retrospective study included 28 patients with MTLE-HS treated with SEEG-3D RFTC from January 2016 to May 2018. Postoperative curative effects were evaluated using the Engel classification, and the patients were followed up for 5 years. RESULTS: The proportions of patients categorized as Engel I between 1 and 5 years after surgery were 72.41% (12 months after surgery), 67.86% (18 months after surgery), 62.07% (24 months after surgery), 50.00% (36 months after surgery), 42.86% (48 months after surgery), and 42.86% (60 months after surgery), respectively. Regarding long-term efficacy, based on the Engel classification, SEEG-3D RFTC showed room for improvement. SIGNIFICANCE: This was the first study to evaluate the efficacy of SEEG-3D RFTC for MTLE-HS with long-term follow-up. SEEG-3D RFTC is a promising alternative for patients with MTLE-HS. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY: This study explored the potential of stereoelectroencephalography-guided three-dimensional radiofrequency thermocoagulation, a minimally invasive approach, for treating medial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis. Involving 28 patients, the research tracked the treatment's success over five years using the Engel classification. Initial results were promising, with 72.41% of patients achieving the most favorable outcome (Engel I) at one year. While there was a gradual decrease in this proportion over time, 42.86% of patients maintained this positive outcome at five years, highlighting the treatment's potential for long-term efficacy.

Purpose: To compare the morphological characteristics of Schlemm's canal (SC) in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and healthy controls, using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) with en face reconstruction. Methods: In this Prospective comparative study, we included 100 eyes from 50 patients diagnosed with POAG and 50 healthy controls. Three-dimensional cube and line scans of the temporal and nasal quadrants of the anterior segment of the limbus were acquired using SS-OCT. SC was identified using en face and cross-sectional images. The diameter and area of SC in cross-sectional images and the visible percentage and area of SC in en face images were measured using ImageJ. Results: SC was observed in 84% of en face images and 81% of cross-sectional images in eyes with POAG but in 92% of en face images and 86% of cross-sectional images in control eyes. Significant differences between the POAG and normal control eyes were found in the en face area (0.35 ± 0.14 mm2 vs. 0.56 ± 0.22 mm2 in the temporal quadrant and 0.36 ± 0.14 mm2 vs. 0.58 ± 0.23 mm2 in the nasal quadrant; both p < 0.001) and visible percentage of SC (85.71% vs. 94.91% and 87.10% vs. 95.52% in the temporal and nasal quadrant respectively, both p < 0.001) in en face images as well as the cross-sectional area (2790.9 ± 942.2 µm2 vs. 4138.6 ± 2027.8 µm2 in the temporal quadrant and 2805.7 ± 947.2 µm2 vs. 4224.0 ± 2002.2 µm2 in the nasal quadrant, both p < 0.001) and diameter of SC (123.1 ± 25.4 µm vs. 149.5 ± 34.7 µm in the temporal quadrant and 126.3 ± 28.9 µm vs. 155.3 ± 36.0 µm in the nasal quadrant, both p < 0.001) in cross-section images. In addition, the mean intraocular pressure (IOP) significantly correlated with the en face area, visible percentage of SC, and cross-sectional area in the temporal and nasal quadrants. Conclusion: SS-OCT can obtain high-quality en face images of SC without post-acquisition processing. Eyes with POAG had a decreased en face SC area compared with normal eyes. A correlation between SC area, visible percentage of en face images, and IOP was also observed.

BACKGROUND: With the standardization of surgical techniques and continuous development of plate fixators, medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) has become an option for the treatment of medial knee osteoarthritis. However, it is also associated with several complications. To reduce the risk of these complications, it is essential for surgeons to accurately understand the three-dimensional (3D) anatomical structures, including the surroundings of the surgical field. Gross dissection using a cadaver provides a large surgical field and is the best learning method for studying anatomical structures in three dimensions; however, it is not available at all medical institutions. METHODS: One female cadaveric knee, fixed using the Thiel method, was used in this study, and OWHTO was performed. A series of photographs was taken from approximately 60 different angles at each stage of the autopsy for digital photogrammetry to ensure that there was at least a 60% overlap between photographs. RESULTS: Each 3D object was created to be faithful to the original specimen and displayed on an augmented reality headset. It was created to capture the subtle nuances of irregular shapes and structures, highlighting the unique ability of photogrammetry to capture pathology. This method allows surgeons to visualize the location of neurovascular injuries in the intraoperative field of view. CONCLUSIONS: Using a technique that applies digital photogrammetry to create 3D objects from handheld photographs, this reports for the first time an educational tool that can reproduce the anatomy related to high tibial osteotomy in three dimensions.

The liver has multiple regeneration modes, including hepatocellular hypertrophy and self-renewal of hepatocytes. When hepatocyte proliferation is impaired, hepatic progenitor cells may proliferate through ductular reaction (DR), differentiate into hepatocytes, and contribute to fibrosis. However, the three-dimensional spatial relationship between DR and regenerating hepatocytes and dynamic changes in DR associated with fibrosis remain poorly understood. Here, we performed three-dimensional (3D) imaging of cleared 42 liver explants with chronic and acute liver diseases and 4 normal livers to visualize DR. In chronic hepatic liver diseases, such as viral hepatitis, steatohepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, and cryptogenic cirrhosis, the total length and number of branches of DR showed a significant positive correlation. We studied the spatial relationship between DR and GS-expressing cells using glutamine synthetase (GS) and cytokeratin 19 (CK19) as markers of liver regeneration and DR, respectively. The percentage of CK19-positive cells that co-expressed GS was less than 10% in chronic liver diseases. In contrast, nearly one-third of CK19-positive cells co-expressed GS in acute liver diseases, and chronic cholestatic liver diseases, including primary biliary cholangitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, showed no co-expression. We also found that DR was longer and had more branching in livers with progressive fibrosis compared to those with regressive fibrosis. Our results suggest that DR displays varying degrees of spatial complexity and contribution to liver regeneration. DR may serve as hepatobiliary junctions that maintain continuity between hepatocytes and bile ducts rather than hepatocyte regeneration in chronic liver diseases.

To exploit the potential of our newly developed three-dimensional (3D) dimerized acceptors, a series of chlorinated 3D acceptors (namely CH8-3/4/5) were reported by precisely tuning the position of chlorine (Cl) atom. The introduction of Cl atom in central unit affects the molecular conformation. Whereas, by replacing fluorinated terminal groups (CH8-3) with chlorinated terminal groups (CH8-4 and CH8-5), the red-shift absorption and enhanced crystallization are achieved. Benefiting from these, all devices received promising power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) over 16 % as well as decent thermal/photo-stabilities. Among them, PM6:CH8-4 based device yielded a best PCE of 17.58 %. Besides, the 3D merits with multi alkyl chains enable their versatile processability during the device preparation. Impressive PCEs of 17.27 % and 16.23 % could be achieved for non-halogen solvent processable devices prepared in glovebox and ambient, respectively. 2.88 cm2 modules also obtained PCEs over 13 % via spin-coating and blade-coating methods, respectively. These results are among the best performance of dimerized acceptors. The decent performance of CH8-4 on small-area devices, modules and non-halogen solvent-processed devices highlights the versatile processing capability of our 3D acceptors, as well as their potential applications in the future.
