RESUMEN

Purpose: The objective of the present study was to determine the accuracy of T-scan system and Cerec Omnicam system with respect to the evaluation of occlusal contact by quantitatively comparing the occlusal contact areas and the overlapping ratios of occlusal contact areas obtained from these systems. Material and methods: The occlusal contact of 20 adolescents with normal occlusion was measured with the T-scan system and the Cerec Omnicam system, respectively. The occlusal contact areas in the intercuspal position were then quantified with Adobe Photoshop CS6 Software. The same procedure was repeated for each subject using with 8 µm articulating paper as the control group. The overlapping ratio of T-scan system and Cerec Omnicam system was calculated respectively, which is defined as the ratio of overlapping areas comparing with those obtained from articulating paper. To examine the accuracy of T-scan system and Cerec Omnicam system, the Paired t-test was applied. The reproducibility of T-scan system was evaluated with Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test by comparing the occlusal contact areas between two repeated measurements. In all statistical analysis, the level of significance was set to α = 0.05. Results: Results demonstrated measured occlusal contact areas were significantly different between those obtained between T-scan system and Cerec Omnicam system (P < 0.05). The tooth position of two-dimensional virtual dental arch established by T-scan system based on the width of the central incisor was in disagreement with the actual tooth position. The overlapping ratios obtained from Cerec Omnicam system were higher than those obtained from the T-Scan system (P < 0.05). The sensitivity of T-Scan system in anterior teeth area decreased when sensors are used more than once (P < 0.05). Conclusions: In the intercuspal position, the accuracy of Cerec Omnicam system for occlusal contact assessment is higher than that of T-scan system. The T-scan system demonstrates good reproducibility in the premolar region and the molar region, but poor reproducibility in the anterior teeth region. Clinical implications: In the intercuspal position, Cerec Omnicam system is more accurate than T-scan system, which can quantitatively analyze occlusal relationship in terms of number, position, size and distribution of occlusal contact points. When evaluating occlusal contacts, the accuracy of T-scan system in anterior teeth region is significantly lower than that of premolar and molar regions.

OBJECTIVE: For obtaining the perfect balance of a removable complete denture, we have a few clinical procedures to complete, but only the analysis of the occlusal load distribution at various vertical dimensions of occlusion can give us the precise data. METHOD: The patient selected for this case report was a 35 years old edentulous female who requested prosthetic treatment with complete removable dentures. We followed the usual clinical steps of obtaining an acrylic denture, as well as the T-Scan III analysis during the jaw registration, in different conditions: with the occlusal wax rims, and with the trial denture in the next step, registering three different occlusal vertical dimension - understated, overstated and ideal height. Using these dimensions, we realized four mock-ups, two at the proper vertical dimensions, with various types of tooth color and shape. We analyzed the mock-ups using the T-scan III system. After the dental prosthesis was manufactured, we made another measurement with the T-scan III system. RESULTS: After analyzing all the data from the T-scan III system, we distinguished that the most suitable solution for the patient was the proper dimension mock-up with D2 shade. CONCLUSIONS: Although the registered situations were satisfactory, the aesthetic issues are essential, and the functional aspects are fundamental, the most suitable solution in this case, was the mock-up with proper dimensions.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Most of the former studies about the occlusal contact patterns during the mandibular movement focused on foreigner. The purpose of this study is analyzing the occlusal contacts of young Koreans by using T-Scan system. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The sample size was 87 and the occlusal contacts of each right and left lateral movements were measured from the maximum intercuspation to the 3mm excursive position for three times respectively. All of the occlusal contacts were double checked through the thin metal foil. The results were categorized as two; 1) considering occlusal contact patterns on working side only, 2) considering occlusal contact patterns on working and nonworking sides. RESULTS: The results showed that the nonworking side occlusal contacts play major roles in the lateral mandibular movement. In both cases of considering with and without the nonworking side occlusal contacts, the group function was the most prevalent. In the working side, the contacts were the most frequent in canine and the frequency of contacts was decreased as the distance was increased from canine to molar. In the nonworking side, the contacts were the most frequent in second molar. And the gender factor was statistically significant (alpha=.05), as females have more nonworking side occlusal contacts in this study. CONCLUSION: Among the three factors of anterior guidance, the group function was the most dominant factor. The analysis of 87 samples showed that canine contact was the most frequent in the working side and second molar contact was the most common in the nonworking side.

RESUMEN

This study was done to identify the changes of bite force and occlusal contact between before and after stabilization splint therapy. 16 female patients, accepted for orthodontic treatment at the Department of Orthodontics, College of Dentistry, Chosun University, were selected as the sample of this investigation. For comparisons, the samples of 16 were divided into just before stabilization splint, 1 month after stabilization splint, 2months after stabilization splint, and 3 months after stabilization splint and used the T-scan system to identify the bite force and occlusal contact changes for each group. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out ANOVA tests, and Turkey test using SPSS/PC(+). The results were as follows : 1. Bite force change from just before treatment to 1 month after stabilization splint therapy was statistical significantly decreased (P0.05). 3. The changes of anterior occlusal contacts showed no statistical significance regardless of the wearing periods of stabilization splint (p>0.05). 4. The changes of posterior occlusal contacts from just before treatment to 1 month after stabilization splint therapy was statistical significantly decreased (p>0.05). 5. The changes of posterior occlusal contacts during 1 to 3 months after stabilization splint therapy showed no statistical significance (p>0.05). 6. Posterior teeth rather than anterior teeth were more influenced by the changes of the number of occlusal contacts. To sum up above results, we may respect to capturing and stabilizing centric relation position just 1 month after stabilization splint therapy.
