RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Growing attention is given to LGBTQ+ well-being, mainly using the minority stress model, although it's seldom applied in group therapy research. This study aims to investigate individual experiences and identity processes related to minority stress while exploring the effectiveness of group psychodrama on LGBTQ+ well-being and stress levels. METHODS: Seven LGBTQ+ participants aged 19 to 27 years attended 10 weekly sessions of group psychodrama. The study utilized a qualitative exploratory case study design, where interview data underwent inductive thematic analysis and were triangulated with quantitative data concerning well-being, alexithymia, and LGBT Minority Stress. RESULTS: Participants manage their minority-contextualized identity and stigma within their narratives, indicating that group psychodrama may benefit young LGBTQ+ adults by raising awareness and resolving stressors. CONCLUSIONS: The study validates the minority stress model but suggests broader theoretical integration, emphasizing the role of social identity and therapeutic impact of psychodrama in managing minority stress.

RESUMEN

AIM: This research aimed to evaluate the effect of the psychodrama-based intervention used in the communication course of 2nd year nursing students on their therapeutic communication skills and cognitive flexibility. BACKGROUND: Psychodrama has been defined as a way of practicing living without being punished for making mistakes. The psychodrama-based interventions can be used as a novel teaching method to improve therapeutic communication skills and cognitive flexibility in education by allowing students to learn from their trials and errors before going into clinical practice and communicating one-on-one with the patient. DESIGN: A single group, pretest-posttest with a follow-up quasi-experimental design was adopted. METHOD: The participants were a convenience sample of 24 s-year undergraduate nursing students. Students attended a one-day in-a-week psychodrama-based communication course for 14 weeks. The data of the study were collected with the Demographic Information Form, the Therapeutic Communication Skills Scale and the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory. Outcomes were measured on the first day (baseline), at the end of the course and 6 and 12 months after completing the course. Outcomes were analyzed using descriptive and repeated measures analysis of variance, Friedman and Dunn tests. RESULTS: It was determined that the nontherapeutic communication scores were significantly lower at the post-test, 6 months and 12 months than at baseline in participants. Therapeutic-one scores were significantly increased at the post-test compared with baseline in participants. Therapeutic-two scores were significantly increased at 6 months compared with baseline. There was no statistical difference in any measure in the cognitive flexibility inventory. CONCLUSION: The psychodrama-based intervention in communication course significantly improved nursing students' therapeutic communication skills. It is also recommended to conduct studies with larger samples of nursing students from different institutions and also randomized controlled studies with control groups and qualitative studies. It is recommended to conduct studies evaluating an intervention that includes subheadings more related to cognitive flexibility which is an important nursing competency, as well as new studies that evaluate cognitive flexibility with different measurement tools.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Although cognitive behavioral group therapy (CBGT) is an effective treatment for social anxiety disorder, many socially anxious patients are still symptomatic after treatment. A possible improvement for CBGT could come from the more experiential group psychotherapy, psychodrama (PD). The integration of CBGT and PD (labeled CBPT) might offer an even more effective treatment than CBGT or PD alone. With the present study, we investigated first whether three kinds of group therapy (CBGT, PD, and CBPT) are superior to a waitlist (WL). Second, we investigated whether CBPT is more effective than CBGT or PD alone. METHODS: One hundred and forty-four social anxiety patients were randomly assigned to three active conditions or a WL. After wait, WL-participants were randomized over the active treatment conditions. RESULTS: The results of a multilevel analysis showed that all treatments were superior to WL in reducing social anxiety complaints. Only CBGT and CBPT differed significantly from WL in reducing fear of negative evaluations. There were no significant differences between active conditions in any of the variables after treatment and after six-month follow up, neither were there significant differences in treatment dropout. LIMITATIONS: First there is the lack of a long-term follow-up. Second, because of loss of participants, we did not reach the planned numbers in the active treatment groups in comparison to WL. Moreover, this study was not designed as a non-inferiority or equivalence trial. CONCLUSIONS: Although the integrative CBPT showed good results, it was not more effective than the other treatments.

ABSTRACT The body is our first memory archive, and it is through the body that we access and process our traumatic experiences. Internal psychodrama interventions in Khouri's model demonstrate significant effectiveness in treating trauma. Its careful management, anchored in attention to bodily sensorial perceptions, makes it easier to approach traumatic memories in a progressive and safe way, minimizing the risk of re-traumatization. This article presents a new methodological contribution to the model and supports integrative work with other somatic therapy techniques. This methodology, by allowing a gradual immersion in traumatic experiences, provides a therapeutic space where emotions can be explored and processed safely.

RESUMEN

The Erasmus+ project "Death Education for Palliative Psychology" (DE4PP) under the coordination of the University of Padua investigated the effects of teaching palliative psychology with psychodrama and arts therapies, as positive effects on students' attitudes towards life and death were suspected through the use of these forms of treatment. Five countries participated in this project funded by the European Commission (Austria, Israel, Italy, Poland, and Romania). In Klagenfurt (Austria), 34 students from the University of Klagenfurt completed the pilot course entitled "Palliative Psychology" generated by the project partners. Course participants filled out psychological and satisfaction questionnaires at the beginning and end of the course, to measure the impact of teaching palliative psychology with psychodrama and arts therapies. The research involved a control group. In addition, six participants in the course participated in a focus group interview at the end, which included questions about their experience of the course; the impact of arts therapies and psychodrama techniques; experiences of verbal and artistic processing of death anxiety; and the meaning of life and death, representation of death, and associated feelings. The results, in summary, showed that processing of life and death had occurred in the participants due to the course they had completed. As part of the course, creative arts and psychodrama were bridges to death. Filling out satisfaction questionnaires, photovoice assignments, role reversal, and visualizing a personal social atom were seen by students in Klagenfurt as particularly effective methods for self-reflection.

RESUMEN

The study aims to explore the effects that videoconferencing Analytic Psychodrama (AP) has on the psychological wellbeing and emotional competence of young adults who are suffering from mental health problems. Twenty-two undergraduate students, asking for help at the Psychological Counselling Service of the University of Bologna for anxiety-depressive problems, took part in the three online groups that met weekly from October 2020 to July 2021. The Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation Outcome Measure, the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, the Interpersonal Reactivity Index, and the Group Climate Questionnaire were used as test-retest questionnaires for clinical outcomes, emotional competence, and group climate evaluations. There was a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and 10-month scores for patients in clinical outcomes. Alexithymia significantly decreased and emotional intelligence and group engagement increased post-intervention. Videoconferencing AP sounds promising for alleviating psychological problems and to improve young adults' emotional competence.

RESUMEN

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has heightened the need for internet-delivered intervention for depression with chronic diseases than a traditionally-based treatment procedure, and the need for CBT as an internet-delivered intervention has increased because it scales down the stigma of proceeding to a therapist, saves travel time from different geographical areas, and increases access to the service. This study aimed to evaluate the contemporary evidence for the effectiveness of internet-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a treatment option for depression with chronic illness (CVD, diabetes, chronic pain, cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)) among adult populations in high-income countries. A systematic search strategy was devised based on selecting search terms, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and refinement processes. Electronic searches were conducted using databases related to healthcare and containing peer-reviewed literature: the Cumulated Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), the Excerpta Medica Database (Embase), the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), and PsycINFO. Key search terms were applied to all databases and combined using Boolean operators to maximise the efficiency of the search. This review included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the adult population aged ≥18 years published from 2006-2021. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement was employed to guide the review process. The initial search yielded 134 studies across all databases, which were refined, leading to 18 studies in the final review data set. This review suggests that internet-based CBT is an effective strategy for reducing depressive symptoms in patients with comorbid depression and chronic diseases.

RESUMEN

Sleep disturbances take many forms. Negative health consequences are associated with nearly all of them. Insomnia, the most common sleep disturbance, can present as an inability to initiate sleep or to maintain sleep such that the restorative benefits of sleep are limited. This case report describes a client in her 60s who sought treatment for early morning awakening that persisted for four years despite the use of sleep-inducing medications. Her successful course of treatment utilized hypnotic suggestions and interactions that targeted distinctive features of the sleep cycle as well as her daily transition from wakefulness to sleep to early morning reawakening. The article highlights the coordination of neurophysiological features of sleep, psychological dynamics at play while awake and in her dream sleep, and how attention to their interplay utilizing hypnosis enabled the client to reestablish restorative sleep patterns in a treatment process spanning less than a dozen treatment sessions.

RESUMEN

The present study investigated the effects of a hybrid online course on a group of Italian Master's degree students involved in a European Erasmus+ project. The course was composed of nine modules about death education, palliative psychology and the use of creative arts therapies-such as psychodrama, intermodal psychodrama and photovoice-in the end-of-life-field. The project involved 64 students in the experimental group (who attended the course) and 56 students as the control group. Both groups completed an online questionnaire before and after the delivery of the course and 10 students from the experimental group participated in a focus group at the end of the course. The quantitative analysis revealed that the experimental group students showed lesser levels of perception of death as annihilation, fear of the death and death avoidance, while they increased their levels of death acceptance, creative self-efficacy and attitude toward the care of the dying. Qualitative analysis identified three main themes: the positive impact of the course on death education and end-of-life care; the role of art therapies on death and end-of-life care; and the unhelpful facets of the course. Overall, this intervention changed the perception and the feelings of the students regarding the themes of death and palliative psychology and increased their creative self-efficacy and their interest in working in an end-of-life field.

ABSTRACT The psychodramatic intervention carried out virtually, in times of a pandemic (2020-2022), aims to work on the expressiveness of a teacher's communication in the personal and professional scope using symbolic images as a resource. When working on the dramatization levels, he seeks to revisit the locus of the loss of spontaneity, to promote the expansion of his self-perception and creativity, in order to be able to face his interrelational conflicts. He also recognizes the possibility that good communication existing in a widely developed role can resonate in roles that are in formation or reveal conflicts.

ABSTRACT The social isolation of recent years has restricted people's freedom and intensified online psychodrama in the pandemic. This article aims to understand how online bipersonal psychodrama can treat the dullness of spontaneity resulting from social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, including stages, instruments and techniques of care. Five sessions of bipersonal psychodrama were performed online, depending on the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Social isolation can blunt spontaneity. The approach of bipersonal psychodrama with its techniques provides a basis for distance practice and allows recognizing cultural conserves, new possibilities for role playing and training spontaneity for survival after the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT This article reflects on the scientific anchoring of psychodramatic research and practice, questioning the colonial/modern perspective prevailing in the universe of Western science, and suggesting an approach to the decolonial thinking developed in the 21st century, in which historically disregarded epistemologies are resumed, such as the one in which the philosophical principles of Moreno's work are located. The questions discussed about research in Psychodrama can be transported to the field of practices, generating questions related to the place of the psychodramatist in the relationship with the other, the way of elaborating the therapeutic problems/hypotheses and what is expected of the interventions, placing them beyond traditional modern binarisms.
