RESUMEN

Aim: To investigate the changes in near accommodative facility and response time in young adults following computer work of 30 minutes and 1 hour in duration. Methods: A total of 50 young adults (37 females, 13 males) with mean age of 20.68 ± 1.33 years were included in this experimental study. Monocular near accommodative facility was measured using ±2.00 Dioptre Sphere (DS) flipper at 40 cm using the N6 (the smallest print size that can be read by an individual with normal visual acuity) target before and after two reading tasks. Both pre- and post-task measurements were video recorded using a smart phone and the number of cycles per minute, positive response time (time taken to stimulate accommodation), and negative response time (time taken to relax accommodation) were calculated from the video recording. Data were analysed using SPSS Version 22.0. Results: Out of the 50 participants, 29 were emmetropes (Mean SER: 0.16 ± 0.29 D), and 21 were myopes (Mean SER: -1.89 ± 1.16 D). The mean pre-task accommodative facility was 6.79 ± 3.52 cycles per minute, and the post-task accommodative facility was 6.25 ± 3.65 cycles per minute (p = 0.10) for the 30-minutes task and 5.76 ± 3.89 cycles per minute (p = 0.01) for 1-hour task. The mean pre-task positive response time was 2.87 ± 1.55 seconds, and the post-task positive response times for 30 minutes and 1 hour were 2.86 ± 1.67 seconds (p = 0.88) and 2.98 ± 2.33 seconds (p = 0.42), respectively. The mean pre-task negative response time was 8.77 ± 8.83 seconds, and the post-task negative response times for 30 minutes and 1 hour task were 11.83 ± 14.28 seconds (p = 0.16) and 14.72 ± 17.32 seconds (p = 0.03), respectively. Conclusion: Monocular near accommodative facility was significantly reduced, and negative response time was delayed following 1 hour of computer work.

The interplay between inheritance and environment, including culture, governs an individual's response, from positive to negative. Variety in urban green spaces is needed to optimise benefits to all residents.

Measuring patient safety culture in the community pharmacy can help with identifying areas for development. The current study is a descriptive, cross-sectional, electronic survey conducted among pharmacists working in community pharmacies located in the southern region of Saudi Arabia. The community pharmacy version of the "Pharmacy Survey on Patient Safety Culture" (PSOPSC) was used to collect data. The positive response rate (PRR) was calculated as per the guidance provided by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Based on the PRR, two least-achieved items (<25%) were taken for further analysis to identify the possible predictors. A sum of 195 pharmacists were included in this study and most of them were working in chain pharmacies. The highest PRRs were observed with teamwork (94.99), and patient counseling (94.13), followed by physical space and environment (93.07). The lowest PRRs were observed with staffing, work pressure, and pace (47.70), followed by communication openness (72.60). Specific characteristics, such as experience and the number of working hours, are significantly related to a poor PRR. The current study results indicate that the scope for improving patient safety exists in various areas of community pharmacies. However, it is necessary to prioritize the need based on a positive response rate.

Background: Correct mapping of the blind spot is important, as it serves as an estimate of fixation reliability. When the blind spot is not seen in the expected location in Humphrey visual field (HVF) printout, the clinician should give a thought to why this might be the case. Purpose: This video describes a series of cases, in which due to different reasons the blind spot could not be seen in the presumed expected location in the grayscale and numeric data of the HVF printout and the possible explanation behind this. Synopsis: When interpreting perimetry results, it is important to know whether the field test is reliable or not. A stimulus presented at the location of physiologic blind spot should not be seen by a patient with a steady fixation in Heijl-Krakau method. Responses will also occur, however, if the patient has a tendency for false-positive responses, or when the blind spot of the properly fixing eye is not in the location where the test stimulus is presented, because of anatomic variation, or if the patient's head is tilted while performing the test. Highlights: Perimetrist should recognize these potential artifact, during the test and relocate the blind spot. The cation/H+ exchanger (CAX) involved in Ca2+, Mg2+ and Mn2+ transport is a special class of vacuolar transporters that play an important role in maintaining ion homeostasis in plant cells. However, it has been rarely reported whether CAX proteins have unique tolerance to cadmium stress. In our research, the cadmium-resistant potato variety "Yunshu 505" was taken as the object, through biological etc. methods, explored 1: response mode of StCAXs to cadmium stress; 2: the evolutionary characteristics and Cd ion binding sites of StCAXs; and 3: possible upstream regulatory pathways of StCAXs. The results showed that cadmium stress significantly induced the expression of StCAX1/4, and there were specific mutations in the evolution process, thus the possible main binding site of Cd ion (EDEE/DH/GxxxxxS/EEEE) was speculated. StCAX1/4 interacts with several proteins, and be regulated by transcription factors, especially the WRKY6. This synergistic regulation through WRKY6 may be an important pathway through which StCAX1/4 imparts high cadmium tolerance to potato. These results provide certain support for understanding the binding sites and specific evolutionary mechanisms of key amino acid residues of cadmium ion in StCAXs, also provide new clues for the identification and regulatory model of potato CAX key positive stress-responsive proteins under cadmium stress.

How language mediates emotional perception and experience is poorly understood. The present event-related potential (ERP) study examined the explicit and implicit processing of emotional speech to differentiate the relative influences of communication channel, emotion category and task type in the prosodic salience effect. Thirty participants (15 women) were presented with spoken words denoting happiness, sadness and neutrality in either the prosodic or semantic channel. They were asked to judge the emotional content (explicit task) and speakers' gender (implicit task) of the stimuli. Results indicated that emotional prosody (relative to semantics) triggered larger N100, P200 and N400 amplitudes with greater delta, theta and alpha inter-trial phase coherence (ITPC) and event-related spectral perturbation (ERSP) values in the corresponding early time windows, and continued to produce larger LPC amplitudes and faster responses during late stages of higher-order cognitive processing. The relative salience of prosodic and semantics was modulated by emotion and task, though such modulatory effects varied across different processing stages. The prosodic salience effect was reduced for sadness processing and in the implicit task during early auditory processing and decision-making but reduced for happiness processing in the explicit task during conscious emotion processing. Additionally, across-trial synchronization of delta, theta and alpha bands predicted the ERP components with higher ITPC and ERSP values significantly associated with stronger N100, P200, N400 and LPC enhancement. These findings reveal the neurocognitive dynamics of emotional speech processing with prosodic salience tied to stage-dependent emotion- and task-specific effects, which can reveal insights into understanding language and emotion processing from cross-linguistic/cultural and clinical perspectives.

Objetivo: El propósito de este estudio fue determinar la respuesta positiva experimentada por los cónyuges que cuidan a su pareja con demencia. Se sabe que el papel del cónyuge como cuidador de personas con demencia tiene efectos más significativos que el papel de otros miembros de la familia. La aceptación del cónyuge como cuidador de personas con demencia puede afectar la calidad de los servicios prestados. Métodos: Esta investigación utilizó un estudio cualitativo con enfoque fenomenológico a 10 participantes obtenidos mediante una técnica de muestreo intencional. Resultados: Los resultados mostraron que la respuesta positiva de los cuidadores en el cuidado de un cónyuge con demencia se vio a través de sentimientos de gratitud por las bendiciones recibidas, aceptación de las condiciones vividas y el sentimiento de cercanía como pareja. Conclusiones: Las respuestas positivas que aparecen en los cónyuges que son cuidadores pueden ser un punto de entrada para que los trabajadores de la salud mejoren el bienestar de los cónyuges como cuidadores. Primary Goal: The purpose of this study was to determine the positive response experienced by spouse cargiving their partner with dementia. The role of the spouse as a caregiver for people with dementia is known to have significant effects than the role of other family members. Spouse’s acceptance as caregivers for people with dementia can affect the quality of services provided. Methods: This research using a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach to 10 participants obtained using a purposive sampling technique. Results: The results showed that the positive response of the caregivers while caring for a spouse with dementia was seen through feelings of gratitude for the blessings received, acceptance to the conditions experienced, and the feeling of closeness as partner. Conclusions: Positive responses that appear in spouses who are caregivers can be an entry point for health workers to improve the welfare of spouses as caregivers. (AU)

Nitrite-dependent anaerobic methane oxidation (n-damo) catalyzed by Candidatus Methylomirabilis oxyfera (M. oxyfera)-like bacteria is a new pathway for the regulation of methane emissions from paddy fields. Elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations (e[CO2]) can indirectly affect the structure and function of microbial communities. However, the response of M. oxyfera-like bacteria to e[CO2] is currently unknown. Here, we investigated the effect of e[CO2] (ambient CO2 + 200 ppm) on community composition, abundance, and activity of M. oxyfera-like bacteria at different depths (0-5, 5-10, and 10-20 cm) in paddy fields across multiple rice growth stages (tillering, jointing, and flowering). High-throughput sequencing showed that e[CO2] had no significant effect on the community composition of M. oxyfera-like bacteria. However, quantitative PCR suggested that the 16S rRNA gene abundance of M. oxyfera-like bacteria increased significantly in soil under e[CO2], particularly at the tillering stage. Furthermore, 13CH4 tracer experiments showed potential n-damo activity of 0.31-8.91 nmol CO2 g-1 (dry soil) d-1. E[CO2] significantly stimulated n-damo activity, especially at the jointing and flowering stages. The n-damo activity and abundance of M. oxyfera-like bacteria increased by an average of 90.9% and 50.0%, respectively, under e[CO2]. Correlation analysis showed that the increase in soil dissolved organic carbon content caused by e[CO2] had significant effects on the activity and abundance of M. oxyfera-like bacteria. Overall, this study provides the first evidence for a positive response of M. oxyfera-like bacteria to e[CO2], which may help reduce methane emissions from paddy fields under future climate change conditions.

The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of combining the epidermal equivalent (EE) potency assay with the assay which assesses release of interleukin-18 (IL-18) to provide a single test for identification and classification of skin sensitizing chemicals, including chemicals of low water solubility or stability. A protocol was developed using different 3D-epidermal models including in house VUMC model, epiCS® (previously EST1000™), MatTek EpiDerm™ and SkinEthic™ RHE and also the impact of different vehicles (acetone:olive oil 4:1, 1% DMSO, ethanol, water) was investigated. Following topical exposure for 24h to 17 contact allergens and 13 non-sensitizers a robust increase in IL-18 release was observed only after exposure to contact allergens. A putative prediction model is proposed from data obtained from two laboratories yielding 95% accuracy. Correlating the in vitro EE sensitizer potency data, which assesses the chemical concentration which results in 50% cytotoxicity (EE-EC50) with human and animal data showed a superior correlation with human DSA05 (µg/cm(2)) data (Spearman r=0.8500; P value (two-tailed)=0.0061) compared to LLNA data (Spearman r=0.5968; P value (two-tailed)=0.0542). DSA05=induction dose per skin area that produces a positive response in 5% of the tested population Also a good correlation was observed for release of IL-18 (SI-2) into culture supernatants with human DSA05 data (Spearman r=0.8333; P value (two-tailed)=0.0154). This easily transferable human in vitro assay appears to be very promising, but additional testing of a larger chemical set with the different EE models is required to fully evaluate the utility of this assay and to establish a definitive prediction model.
