RESUMEN

68Ga-DOTA NOC PET-CT imaging has been shown to have high accuracy for the evaluation of neuroendocrine tumours. We present the case of a 59-year-old male with well differentiated gastric neuroendocrine tumour (grade II) treated with surgery. 68Ga-DOTA NOC PET/CT was performed to rule out metastasis. 68Ga-DOTA NOC showed physiological uptake in the bilateral adrenal and horseshoe kidney appearing as the famous character Super Mario. There is no evidence of any abnormal somatostatin avid lesion.

RESUMEN

Real-time heterogeneous parallel embedded digital signal processor (DSP) systems process multiple data streams in parallel in a stringent time interval. This type of system on chip (SoC) requires the network on chip (NoC) to establish multiple symbiotic parallel data transmission paths with ultra-low transmission latency in real time. Our early NoC research PCCNOC meets this need. The PCCNOC uses packet routing to establish and lock a transmission circuit, so that PCCNOC is perfectly suitable for ultra-low latency and high-bandwidth transmission of long data packets. However, a parallel multi-data stream DSP system also needs to transmit roughly the same number of short data packets for job configuration and job execution status reports. While transferring short data packets, the link establishment routing delay of short data packets becomes relatively obvious. Our further research, thus, introduced PaCHNOC, a hybrid NoC in which long data packets are transmitted through a circuit established and locked by routing, and short data packets are attached to the routing packet and the transmission is completed during the routing process, thus avoiding the PCCNOC setup delay. Simulation shows that PaCHNOC performs well in supporting real-time heterogeneous parallel embedded DSP systems and achieves overall latency reduction 65% compared with related works. Finally, we used PaCHNOC in the baseband subsystem of a real 5G base station, which proved that our research is the best NoC for baseband subsystem of 5G base stations, which reduce 31% comprehensive latency in comparison to related works.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To compare the detection ability of 68Ga-labelled DOTA-l-Nal3-octreotide ([68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC) and 6-[18F]fluoro-L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine ([18F]DOPA) in patients with phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) of different origins and gene mutations, such as germline succinate dehydrogenase complex genes (SDHx). METHODS: Eighty-five patients with histopathologically confirmed PPGLs who underwent both [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC and [18F]DOPA PET/CT from March 2017 to June 2023 were enrolled in this retrospective study. For comparative analyses, PPGLs were classified as phaeochromocytoma (PCC), sympathetic paraganglioma (sPGL), and head/neck paraganglioma (HNPGL). Detection rates were analyzed on per-patient and per-lesion bases and compared using the Chi-square/Fischer's exact test. RESULTS: Among 85 patients with PPGLs (48 males; 43 years ± 17 [SD]), the patient-based detection rates of [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC and [18F]DOPA PET/CT were 87.1% (74/85) and 89.4% (76/85), respectively (p = 0.634), and the lesion-based detection rates were 80.8% (479/593) and 71.2% (422/593), respectively (p < 0.001). Only one patient with a recurrent PCC presented double-negative imaging, while 66 patients exhibited double-positive imaging. The remaining patients were either [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC-negative/[18F]DOPA-positive (n = 10) or [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC-positive/[18F]DOPA-negative (n = 8). In subgroup analyses, [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC PET/CT detected significantly more metastases of sPGL (91.1%, 236/259) and SDHx-related PPGL (89.6%, 86/96) than [18F]DOPA PET/CT (48.6%[126/259] and 50.0%[48/96], respectively; both p < 0.001). However, [18F]DOPA showed significantly higher detection rates of PCC in both primary/recurrent and metastatic lesions (94.3%[50/53] vs. 62.3%[33/53] and 87.9%[174/198] vs. 69.2%[137/198], respectively; both p < 0.001). Regarding metastases in different organs, [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC PET/CT detected more lesions than [18F]DOPA PET/CT in bone (96.2%[176/183] vs. 66.1%[121/183]; p < 0.001) and lymph nodes (82.0%[73/89] vs. 53.9%[48/89]; p < 0.001) but less lesions in peritoneum (20%[4/20] vs. 100%[20/20]; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC and [18F]DOPA are complementary in diagnosing PPGL under the appropriate clinical setting. [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC should be considered as the ideal first-line tracer for detecting metastases of sPGL and SDHx-related tumours, whereas [18F]DOPA may be the optimal tracer for evaluating non-SDHx-related PCC, especially in detecting primary lesions and monitoring recurrence.

RESUMEN

Organizations managing high-performance computing systems face a multitude of challenges, including overarching concerns such as overall energy consumption, microprocessor clock frequency limitations, and the escalating costs associated with chip production. Evidently, processor speeds have plateaued over the last decade, persisting within the range of 2 GHz to 5 GHz. Scholars assert that brain-inspired computing holds substantial promise for mitigating these challenges. The spiking neural network (SNN) particularly stands out for its commendable power efficiency when juxtaposed with conventional design paradigms. Nevertheless, our scrutiny has brought to light several pivotal challenges impeding the seamless implementation of large-scale neural networks (NNs) on silicon. These challenges encompass the absence of automated tools, the need for multifaceted domain expertise, and the inadequacy of existing algorithms to efficiently partition and place extensive SNN computations onto hardware infrastructure. In this paper, we posit the development of an automated tool flow capable of transmuting any NN into an SNN. This undertaking involves the creation of a novel graph-partitioning algorithm designed to strategically place SNNs on a network-on-chip (NoC), thereby paving the way for future energy-efficient and high-performance computing paradigms. The presented methodology showcases its effectiveness by successfully transforming ANN architectures into SNNs with a marginal average error penalty of merely 2.65%. The proposed graph-partitioning algorithm enables a 14.22% decrease in inter-synaptic communication and an 87.58% reduction in intra-synaptic communication, on average, underscoring the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in optimizing NN communication pathways. Compared to a baseline graph-partitioning algorithm, the proposed approach exhibits an average decrease of 79.74% in latency and a 14.67% reduction in energy consumption. Using existing NoC tools, the energy-latency product of SNN architectures is, on average, 82.71% lower than that of the baseline architectures.

RESUMEN

We evaluated the potential relevance of our multi-cancer detection test, OncoVeryx-F, for ovarian cancer screening. For this, we compared its accuracy with that of CA125-based screening. We demonstrate here that, in contrast to CA125-based detection, OncoVeryx-F detected ovarian cancer with very high sensitivity and specificity. Importantly here, Stage I cancers too could be detected with an accuracy of >98%. Furthermore, again unlike CA 125, the detection accuracy of OncoVeryx-F remained comparable in both Caucasian and South Asian/Indian women. Thus, the robustness and accuracy of OncoVeryx-F, particularly for early-stage detection, underscores its potential utility for ovarian cancer screening.

RESUMEN

The paper proposes two architectures for a dynamically scalable network-on-chip (NoC) for dynamically reconfigurable intellectual properties (IPs) to save power. The first architecture is a run-time scalable column-based NoC, where the columns of the NoC are scaled up and down at run-time depending on the demands to connect reconfigurable IPs. The second architecture is an extension of the first, where both the rows and columns of the NoC are dynamically scaled up and down on demand. A robust control manager is developed to control the IP and sub-NoC reconfigurations by optimizing the reconfiguration costs. The proposed architectures have been implemented and tested in actual prototypes on a Virtex 6 FPGA mounted on the ML605 board. The results show that dynamically scalable architectures are capable of significant power reduction as compared to traditional static architectures for the same size of the NoC. It is anticipated that the scalable NoC can be very useful for sharing the FPGA resources among IPs at runtime.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: LncRNAs have been shown to be involved in and control the biological processes of multiple diseases, including preeclampsia (PE). The impairment of trophoblast cell proliferation is recognized as a significant anomaly contributing to the development of PE. LncRNA FEZF1-AS1 was found downregulated in placental tissues of PE patients. However, the precise regulatory mechanism of FEZF1-AS1 in placental trophoblast proliferation and apoptosis remains unclear. RESULTS: In this study, we conducted an investigation into the expression levels of FEZF1-AS1 and NOC2L in placental tissues obtained from patients diagnosed with PE. Subsequently, we employed CCK-8 and EdU assays to quantify cell proliferation, while TUNEL staining and western blot for apoptosis-related protein detection to assess apoptosis. Furthermore, the interactions between FEZF1-AS1 and ELAVL1, as well as NOC2L and ELAVL1, were confirmed through the implementation of RIP and RNA pull-down assays. We found a downregulation of lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 and NOC2L in placental tissues of PE patients. Overexpression of FEZF1-AS1 or NOC2L resulted in increased cell proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis, whereas knockdown of FEZF1-AS1 or NOC2L had the opposite effect. In addition, lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 stabilized NOC2L mRNA expression by interacting with ELAVL1. Moreover, partial reversal of the effects of FEZF1-AS1 overexpression on cell proliferation and apoptosis was observed upon suppression of ELAVL1 or NOC2L. CONCLUSIONS: PE related lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 could regulate apoptosis and proliferation of placental trophoblast cells through the ELAVL1/NOC2L axis.

RESUMEN

Background: Recently, vital pulp therapy is widely used all over the world. It aims to maintain the viability and function of the injured dental pulp tissue. Direct pulp capping is recognized as one of the most common used techniques in this approach. Aim of the study: we aimed to compare the histopathological response of the dental pulp following direct pulp capping using two different capping materials; the exogenous nitric oxide (NOC-18) and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) in dogs' teeth. Methods and materials: The pulp of thirty-two premolars and canines from four dogs (eight teeth per each dog) the pulp was exposed and treated with either exogenous nitric oxide (NOC-18) and MTA (four teeth in each group). The treated teeth were extracted and prepared for histologic evaluation after one month and three months, respectively. The histologic study evaluated the formation of dentine bridge, the degree of pulpitis, calcification of the coronal pulp tissue and odontoblasts layer activity. We have the ethical approval to achieve this research from the scientific committee in Faculty of Dentistry, Damascus University. Results: The results showed that the active statue of odontoblasts layer in NOC-18 group was significantly more than in MTA group after a month of recall (P: 0.003). No significant difference was found between MTA and NOC-18 categories in the formation of dentine bridge after 3 months (P: 1.000). Conclusion: Exogenous nitric oxide (NOC-18) maybe has a positive impact on formation of calcified bridge and efficacy of odontoblasts layer on directly capped dog's teeth. Exogenous NO donors might offer alternative to current pulp capping agents in Vital Pulp Therapy in endodontic.

RESUMEN

Providing 80% of healthcare worldwide, nurses focus on physiologic and psychosocial aspects of health, which incorporate social determinants of health (SDOH). Recognizing their important role in SDOH, nurse informatics scholars included standardized measurable terms that identify and treat issues with SDOH in their classification systems, which have been readily available for over 5 decades. In this Perspective, we assert these currently underutilized nursing classifications would add value to health outcomes and healthcare, and to the goal of decreasing disparities. To illustrate this, we mapped 3 rigorously developed and linked classifications: NANDA International (NANDA-I), Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), and Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) called NNN (NANDA-I, NIC, NOC), to 5 Healthy People 2030 SDOH domains/objectives, revealing the comprehensiveness, usefulness, and value of these classifications. We found that all domains/objectives were addressed and NNN terms often mapped to multiple domains/objectives. Since SDOH, corresponding interventions and measurable outcomes are easily found in standardized nursing classifications (SNCs), more incorporation of SNCs into electronic health records should be occurring, and projects addressing SDOHs should integrate SNCs like NNN into their ongoing work.

RESUMEN

Hundreds of processor cores or modules are integrated into a single chip. The traditional bus or crossbar is challenged by bandwidth, scalability, and silicon area, and cannot meet the requirements of high end applications. Network-on-chip (NoC) has become a very promising interconnection structure because of its good scalability, predictable interconnect length and delay, high bandwidth, and reusability. However, the most available packet routing NoC may not be the perfect solution for high-end heterogeneous multi-core real-time systems-on-chip (SoC) because of the excessive latency and cache cost overhead. Moreover, circuit switching is limited by the scale, connectivity flexibility, and excessive overhead of fully connected systems. To solve the above problems and to meet the need for low latency, high throughput, and flexibility, this paper proposes PCCNoC (Packet Connected Circuit NoC), a low-latency and low-overhead NoC based on both packet switching (setting-up circuit) and circuit switching (data transmission on circuit), which offers flexible routing and zero overhead of data transmission latency, making it suitable for high-end heterogeneous multi-core real-time SoC at various system scales. Compared with typically available packet switched NoC, our PCCoC sees 242% improved performance and 97% latency reduction while keeping the silicon cost relatively low.

RESUMEN

Increasing the number of cores on a chip is one way to solve the bottleneck of exponential growth but an excessive number of cores can lead to problems such as communication blockage and overheating of the chip. Currently, networks-on-chip (NoC) can offer an effective solution to the problem of the communication bottleneck within the chip. With current advancements in IC manufacturing technology, chips can now be 3D-stacked in order to increase chip throughput as well as reduce power consumption while reducing the area of the chip. Automating the mapping of applications into 3D NoC topologies is an important new direction for research in the field of 3D NoC. In this paper, a 3D NoC partitioning algorithm is proposed, which can delineate the 3D NoC region to be mapped. Additionally, a double particle swarm optimization (DPSO) based heuristic algorithm is proposed, which can integrate the characteristics of neighborhood search and genetic algorithms, and thus solve the problem of a particle swarm algorithm falling into local optimal solutions. It is experimentally demonstrated that this DPSO-based hybrid optimization algorithm has a higher throughput rate and lower energy loss than the traditional heuristic algorithm.

RESUMEN

Health literacy (HL) is a result of health promotion and education that has been included as a nursing intervention since 2013. It was proposed, as a nursing activity, to "determine health literacy status at initiation of contact with the patient through informal and/or formal assessments". Because of that, the outcome 'Health Literacy Behaviour' has been incorporated in the sixth edition of the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC). It collects the patient's different HL levels and allows them to be identified and evaluated in a social and health context. Nursing outcomes are helpful and provide relevant information for the evaluation of nursing interventions. OBJECTIVES: To validate the contents of the nursing outcome 'Health Literacy Behaviour (2015)' in order to use them in nursing care plans, and to evaluate their psychometric properties, application level, and effectiveness in nursing care to detect low health literacy patients. METHODS: a methodological two-phased study: (1) an exploratory study and content validation by expert consensus, who will evaluate revised content of nursing outcomes; (2) methodological design by clinical validation. CONCLUSION: The validation of this nursing outcome in NOC will enable the generation of a helpful tool that would facilitate nurses to set individualised and efficient care interventions and identify low health literacy populations.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to reveal the structural characterization and functional properties of microbial EPS-NOC219 material produced by the Enterococcus faecalis NOC219 strain with high EPS yield isolated from yogurt, with simultaneously, demonstrating the potential of this EPS for future industrial applications. According to the results of the analyses made for this aim, it was determined that the NOC219 strain contains the epsB, p-gtf-epsEFG, and p-gtf-P1 genes. In addition, it was also revealed that the EPS-NOC219 structure is expressed by the epsB, p-gtf-epsEFG, and p-gtf-P1 genes and has a heteropolymeric feature consisting of glucose, galactose, and fructose units. According to the results of the analyses made for this aim, it was determined that the EPS-NOC219 structure, which was produced from the NOC219 strain containing the epsB, p-gtf-epsEFG, and p-gtf-P1 genes, had a heteropolymeric structure consisting of glucose, galactose, and fructose units. On the other hand, it was shown that this structure had a thickener property, high heat stability exhibited a pseudoplastic flow behavior, and had a high melting point. This showed that the EPS-NOC219 had high heat stability and could be used as a thickener in heat treatment processes. In addition, it was revealed that it is suitable for plasticized biofilm production. On the other hand, the bioavailability of this structure was demonstrated with its high antioxidant activity (55.84%) against DPPH radicals and high antibiofilm activity against Escherichia coli (77.83%) and Listeria monocytogenes (72.14%) pathogens. These results suggest that the EPS-NOC219 structure may be an alternative natural resource for many industries as it has strong physicochemical properties and a healthy food-grade adjunct.

RESUMEN

This paper introduces a novel 3D NoC router that combines buffered and bufferless routing with approximate priority comparison when deflecting flits. Our proposal is a modification of an asymmetrical router that is buffered in the z dimension ports and bufferless in the x and y dimension ports. Flits that request output ports in the x and y dimensions are granted or deflected based on approximate, instead of accurate, priority comparison. Experimental results show that the proposed router, in addition to effectively combining the advantages of both buffered and bufferless routers, achieves additional performance and area gains due to the reduced logic required for approximate priority comparison in flit deflections. Experimental results using synthetic and realistic traffic show that the proposed router begins to saturate at a significantly higher injection rate than a bufferless router, but at a slightly lower injection rate than when using accurate priority comparison. Furthermore, the proposed router achieves higher clock frequencies and a reduced area compared to bufferles routers due to the simpler permutation network. The increased routing efficiency is shown to also translate to energy gains.

RESUMEN

In Bacillus subtilis, a ParB-like nucleoid occlusion protein (Noc) binds specifically to Noc-binding sites (NBSs) on the chromosome to help coordinate chromosome segregation and cell division. Noc does so by binding to CTP to form large membrane-associated nucleoprotein complexes to physically inhibit the assembly of the cell division machinery. The site-specific binding of Noc to NBS DNA is a prerequisite for CTP-binding and the subsequent formation of a membrane-active DNA-entrapped protein complex. Here, we solve the structure of a C-terminally truncated B. subtilis Noc bound to NBS DNA to reveal the conformation of Noc at this crucial step. Our structure reveals the disengagement between the N-terminal CTP-binding domain and the NBS-binding domain of each DNA-bound Noc subunit; this is driven, in part, by the swapping of helices 4 and 5 at the interface of the two domains. Site-specific crosslinking data suggest that this conformation of Noc-NBS exists in solution. Overall, our results lend support to the recent proposal that parS/NBS binding catalyzes CTP binding and DNA entrapment by preventing the reengagement of the CTP-binding domain and the DNA-binding domain from the same ParB/Noc subunit.

RESUMEN

68Ga-DOTA NOC PET-CT imaging has been shown to have high accuracy for the evaluation of neuroendocrine tumours. We report a case of a 3-year-old boy who presented with a right paravertebral soft tissue mass. Biopsy showed ganglioneuroblastoma. The patient was referred for 68Ga-DOTA NOC for staging. 68Ga-DOTA NOC PET/CT images showed somatostatin-avid large right paravertebral soft tissue mass representing the primary lesion, along with increased radiotracer localization at multiple metastatic lytic bone lesions in the axial and appendicular skeleton. 68Ga-DOTA NOC PET-CT is helpful in the evaluation of the disease extent of neuroendocrine tumours including ganglioneuroblastoma.

RESUMEN

This article considers the usage of circulant topologies as a promising deadlock-free topology for networks-on-chip (NoCs). A new high-level model, Newxim, for the exploration of NoCs with any topology is presented. Two methods for solving the problem of cyclic dependencies in circulant topologies, which limit their applications for NoCs due to the increased possibility of deadlocks, are proposed. The first method of dealing with deadlocks is universal and applicable to any topology; it is based on the idea of bypassing blocked sections of the network on an acyclic subnetwork. The second method-Ring-Split-takes into account the features of circulant topologies. The results of high-level modeling and comparison of the peak throughput of NoCs for circulant and mesh topologies using deadlock-free routing algorithms are presented. It was shown that a new approach for routing in circulants (compared to mesh topology) shows up to 59% better network throughput with a uniform distribution of network load.

RESUMEN

NOC2 like nucleolar associated transcriptional repressor (NOC2L) was recently identified as a novel inhibitor of histone acetyltransferase (INHAT). NOC2L is found to have two INHAT function domains and regulates histone acetylation in a histone deacetylases (HDAC) independent manner, which is distinct from other INHATs. In this review, we summarize the biological function of NOC2L in histone acetylation regulation, P53-mediated transcription, ribosome RNA processing, certain development events and carcinogenesis. We propose that NOC2L may be explored as a potential biomarker and a therapeutic target in clinical practice.

METHODS: This was a thorough literature review, following Whittemore and Knafl's method and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses´ guidelines (2005) and adopting the Oxford Center for Evidence-Based Classification Medicine-Levels of Evidence (2011). The literature search included databases from Virtual Health Library, Cochrane Library, Excerpta Medica Database, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, PubMed, SciVerse Scopus, The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Web of Science. It was conducted between October and December 2019 and updated in April 2022. FINDINGS: Upon our first analysis of the 254 articles that could correlate to the present study, we concluded that 15 of them are of foremost relevance. The nursing outcomes found are correlated with skin care, position in hospital bed, pressure injury prevention, self-care assistance to bath, intimate, and oral hygiene, pain control, circulatory precaution, and impaired physical mobility assistance. All of these outcomes are directly or indirectly involved with the consequences of mobility impairment. CONCLUSIONS: The main nursing outcomes of our research identified for patients with multiple traumas were related to mobility, the consequences of immobility, self-care, and skin maintenance. In conclusion, this review highlights the importance of measuring outcomes related to the provision of nursing care. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: The nursing outcomes classification provides results that can be used across the continuum of care to assess the patient's status after nursing interventions. It also allows for improved care for multiple trauma patients who have altered mobility, identifying the real needs of these patients.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: We aimed to elucidate the role of quantitative tumor burden based on PET/CT of somatostatin receptors in well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). METHODS: This study enrolled patients with [68 Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC PET/CT-positive advanced NETs who did not receive medical treatment prior to PET/CT. Tumor burden was calculated using methods based on the background threshold and relative fixed threshold values (30%, 40%, and 50%). The prognostic value of the measured tumor burden in reference to overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) on treatment with octreotide long-acting repeatable (LAR) was assessed using Cox regression analysis, Harrell's C-index, and survival analysis. A classification and regression tree (CART) was used to determine the optimal threshold for tumor burden. RESULTS: A total of 204 patients were included. Somatostatin receptor-expressing tumor volume (SRETV) and liver SRETV derived from a relative fixed threshold of 30% (SRETV30 and liver SRETV30) were statistically significantly associated with OS (C-index: 0.802 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.658-0.946] and 0.806 [95% CI, 0.664-0.948], respectively). Extrahepatic tumor burden was not correlated with OS (hazard ratio: 0.617, 95% CI: 0.241-1.574, P = 0.312). Among 155 patients with non-functional NETs with a ki-67 index of ≤ 10%, those with a high SRETV30 (P = 0.016) or high liver SRETV30 (P = 0.014) showed statistically significantly worse PFS on treatment with octreotide LAR. Patients receiving a higher dose of octreotide LAR normalized by SRETV30 or liver SRETV30 (a normalized dose or a liver normalized dose) showed prolonged PFS on treatment with octreotide LAR and a prolonged OS. CONCLUSION: Quantitative tumor burden based on [68 Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC PET/CT was correlated with OS and PFS in patients with non-functional NETs with a ki-67 index of ≤ 10% who received octreotide LAR. Calculating normalized and liver normalized doses may help in selecting the starting dose of octreotide LAR.
