RESUMEN

Recurrent spontaneous miscarriage refers to the repeated loss of two or more clinically detected pregnancies occurring within 24 weeks of gestation. No identifiable cause has been identified for nearly 50% of these cases. This group is referred to as idiopathic recurrent spontaneous miscarriage (IRSM) or miscarriage of unknown origin. Due to lack of robust scientific evidence, guidelines on the diagnosis and management of IRSM are not well defined and often contradictory. This motivates us to explore the vibrational fingerprints of endometrial tissue in these women. Endometrial tissues were collected from women undergoing IRSM (n = 20) and controls (n = 20) corresponding to the window of implantation. Attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectra were obtained within the range of 400-4000 cm-1 using Agilent Cary 630 FTIR spectrometer. Raman spectra were also generated within the spectral window of 400-4000 cm-1 using Thermo Fisher Scientific, DXR Raman spectrophotometer. Based on the limited molecular information provided by a single spectroscopic tool, fusion strategy combining Raman and ATR-FTIR spectroscopic data of IRSM is proposed. The significant features were extracted applying principal component analysis (PCA) and wavelet threshold denoising (WTD) and fused spectral data used as input into support vector machine (SVM), adaptive boosting (AdaBoost) and decision tree (DT) models. Altered molecular vibrations associated with proteins, glutamate, and lipid metabolism were observed in IRSM using Raman spectroscopy. FTIR analysis indicated changes in the molecular vibrations of lipids and proteins, collagen dysregulation and impaired glucose metabolism. Combination of both spectroscopic data using mid-level fusion (MLF: 92% using AdaBoost and DT models) and high-level fusion (HLF: 92% using SVM models) methods showed improved IRSM classification accuracy as compared to individual spectral models. Our results indicate that spectral fusion technology hold promise in enhancing diagnostic accuracy of IRSM in clinical settings. Validation of these findings in a larger patient population is underway.

We show that in plasmas generated in deuterium in the presence of sputtered W surfaces, various molecular tungsten species are formed, whose chemical composition depends on the presence of gaseous impurities, namely, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. A magnetron discharge was used for plasma sustaining, and the species were investigated by mass spectrometry and optical emission spectroscopy. The identified tungsten-containing molecules are described by the chemical formula WOxNyDzHt, where x = 0-4, y = 0-3, z = 0-3, t = 0-5. Presumptively, even higher mass tungsten molecular species are present in plasma, which were not detected because of the limitation of the spectrometer measurement range to 300 amu. The presence of these molecules will likely impact the W particle balance and dust formation mechanisms in fusion plasmas.

As a significant technological innovation in the fields of medicine and geriatric care, smart care wheelchairs offer a novel approach to providing high-quality care services and improving the quality of care. The aim of this review article is to examine the development, applications and prospects of smart nursing wheelchairs, with particular emphasis on their assistive nursing functions, multiple-sensor fusion technology, and human-machine interaction interfaces. First, we describe the assistive functions of nursing wheelchairs, including position changing, transferring, bathing, and toileting, which significantly reduce the workload of nursing staff and improve the quality of care. Second, we summarized the existing multiple-sensor fusion technology for smart nursing wheelchairs, including LiDAR, RGB-D, ultrasonic sensors, etc. These technologies give wheelchairs autonomy and safety, better meeting patients' needs. We also discussed the human-machine interaction interfaces of intelligent care wheelchairs, such as voice recognition, touch screens, and remote controls. These interfaces allow users to operate and control the wheelchair more easily, improving usability and maneuverability. Finally, we emphasized the importance of multifunctional-integrated care wheelchairs that integrate assistive care, navigation, and human-machine interaction functions into a comprehensive care solution for users. We are looking forward to the future and assume that smart nursing wheelchairs will play an increasingly important role in medicine and geriatric care. By integrating advanced technologies such as enhanced artificial intelligence, intelligent sensors, and remote monitoring, we expect to further improve patients' quality of care and quality of life.

Although a lot of effort has been put into creating drugs and combination therapies against chronic hepatitis, no effective treatment has been established. Type-I interferon is a promising therapeutic for chronic hepatitis due to its excellent anti-inflammatory effects through interferon receptors on hepatic macrophages. To develop a type-I IFN equipped with the ability to target hepatic macrophages through the macrophage mannose receptor, the present study designed a mouse type-I interferon-mannosylated albumin fusion protein using site-specific mutagenesis and albumin fusion technology. This fusion protein exhibited the induction of anti-inflammatory molecules, such as IL-10, IL-1Ra, and PD-1, in RAW264.7 cells, or hepatoprotective effects on carbon tetrachloride-induced chronic hepatitis mice. As expected, such biological and hepatoprotective actions were significantly superior to those of human fusion proteins. Furthermore, the repeated administration of mouse fusion protein to carbon tetrachloride-induced chronic hepatitis mice clearly suppressed the area of liver fibrosis and hepatic hydroxyproline contents, not only with a reduction in the levels of inflammatory cytokine (TNF-α) and fibrosis-related genes (TGF-ß, Fibronectin, Snail, and Collagen 1α2), but also with a shift in the hepatic macrophage phenotype from inflammatory to anti-inflammatory. Therefore, type-I interferon-mannosylated albumin fusion protein has the potential as a new therapeutic agent for chronic hepatitis.

Panax notoginseng powder (PNP) has high medicinal value and is widely used in the medical and health food industries. However, the adulteration of PNP in the market has dramatically reduced its efficacy. Therefore, this study intends to use artificial intelligence sensory (AIS) and multi-source information fusion (MIF) technology to try to establish a quality evaluation system for different grades of PNP and adulterated Panax notoginseng powder (AD-PNP). The highest accuracy rate reached 100% in identifying PNP grade and adulteration. In the prediction of adulteration ratio and total saponin content, the optimal determination coefficients of the test set were 0.9965 and 0.9948, respectively, and the root mean square errors were 0.0109 and 0.0123, respectively. Therefore, the grade identification method of PNP and the evaluation system of AD-PNP based on AIS and MIF technology can rapidly and accurately evaluate the quality of PNP.

Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) is a plant native in the Amazon rainforest in South America known for its edible seeds, which are rich in lipids, proteins, vitamin E, polyphenols, minerals, and amino acids. Rural communities in developing nations have been using this plant for its health benefits, including as a topical cream for rejuvenating and revitalising skin and as a treatment for muscle pain and rheumatism. Although Sacha Inchi oil has been applied topically to soften skin, treat skin diseases, and heal wounds, its protein-rich seeds have not yet received proper attention for extensive investigation. Proteins in Sacha Inchi seeds are generally known to have antioxidant and antifungal activities and are extensively used nowadays in making protein-rich food alternatives worldwide. Notably, large-scale use of seed proteins has begun in nanoparticle and biofusion technologies related to the human health-benefitting sector. To extract and identify their proteins, the current study examined Sacha Inchi seeds collected from the Malaysian state of Kedah. Our analysis revealed a protein concentration of 73.8 ± 0.002 mg/g of freeze-dried seed flour. Employing liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and PEAKS studio analysis, we identified 217 proteins in the seed extract, including 152 with known proteins and 65 unknown proteins. This study marks a significant step towards comprehensively investigating the protein composition of Sacha Inchi seeds and elucidating their potential applications in the food and biopharmaceutical sectors. Our discoveries not only enhance our knowledge of Sacha Inchi's nutritional characteristics but also pave the way for prospective research and innovative advancements in the realms of functional food and health-related domains.

Introduction: In the context of evolving societal preferences for deeper emotional connections in art, this paper explores the emergence of multimodal robot music performance art. It investigates the fusion of music and motion in robot performances to enhance expressiveness and emotional impact. The study employs Transformer models to combine audio and video signals, enabling robots to better understand music's rhythm, melody, and emotional content. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are utilized to create lifelike visual performances synchronized with music, bridging auditory and visual perception. Multimodal reinforcement learning is employed to achieve harmonious alignment between sound and motion. Methods: The study leverages Transformer models to process audio and video signals in robot performances. Generative Adversarial Networks are employed to generate visually appealing performances that align with the musical input. Multimodal reinforcement learning is used to synchronize robot actions with music. Diverse music styles and emotions are considered in the experiments. Performance evaluation metrics include accuracy, recall rate, and F1 score. Results: The proposed approach yields promising results across various music styles and emotional contexts. Performance smoothness scores exceed 94 points, demonstrating the fluidity of robot actions. An accuracy rate of 95% highlights the precision of the system in aligning robot actions with music. Notably, there is a substantial 33% enhancement in performance recall rate compared to baseline modules. The collective improvement in F1 score emphasizes the advantages of the proposed approach in the realm of robot music performance art. Discussion: The study's findings demonstrate the potential of multimodal robot music performance art in achieving heightened emotional impact. By combining audio and visual cues, robots can better interpret and respond to music, resulting in smoother and more precise performances. The substantial improvement in recall rate suggests that the proposed approach enhances the robots' ability to accurately mirror the emotional nuances of the music. These results signify the potential of this approach to transform the landscape of artistic expression through robotics, opening new avenues for emotionally resonant performances.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a kind of small molecular peptide that an organism produces to resist the invasion of foreign microorganisms. AMP BSN-37 is a bovine AMP that exhibits high antibacterial activity. In this paper, the optimized gene AMP BSN-37 was cloned into pCold-SUMO for fusion expression by recombinant DNA technology. The gene sequence of AMP BSN-37 was obtained by codons reverse translation, and the codons were optimized according to the codons preference of Escherichia coli (E. coli). The recombinant plasmid was constructed and identified by PCR, enzyme digestion and sequencing. Then the recombinant plasmid was transformed into BL21 E. coli to induce expression, and the IPTG concentration and time were optimized. The expressed soluble fusion protein SUMO-BSN-37 was purified by chromatography and then cleaved by SUMO proteases to release BSN-37. SDS-PAGE electrophoresis and Western blotting were used for identification. The recombinant plasmid pCold-SUMO-BSN-37 was obtained, and the fusion AMP BSN-37 was preliminarily expressed in BL21. After optimization, the optimal expression condition was 37 ℃ with 0.4 µM IPTG and 6 h incubation. Under optimal conditions, a large amount of fusion AMP BSN-37 was obtained by purification. Western blotting showed that the fusion peptide was successfully expressed and had good activity. The expressed BSN-37 showed antimicrobial activity similar to that of synthesized BSN-37. In this study, soluble expression products of AMP BSN-37 were obtained, and the problem regarding the limited source of AMP BSN-37 could be effectively solved, laying a foundation for further research on AMP BSN-37.

The grey correlation-TOPSIS method was used to evaluate the quality of the origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, and the Fourier transform near-infrared(NIR) and mid-infrared(MIR) spectroscopy was applied to establish the identification model of origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos by combining chemometrics and spectral fusion strategies. The content of neochlorogenic acid, chlorogenic acid, cryptochlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, secoxyloganin, isoquercitrin, isochlorogenic acid B, isochlorogenic acid A, and isochlorogenic acid C in six origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC), and their quality was evaluated by the grey correlation-TOPSIS method. The Fourier transform NIR and MIR spectra of six origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos(Lonicera japonica, L. macranthoides, L. hypoglauca, L. fulvotomentosa, L. confuse, and L. similis) were collected. At the same time, principal component analysis(PCA), support vector machine(SVM), and spectral data fusion technology were combined to determine the optimal identification method for the origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos. There were differences in the quality of the origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos. Specifically, there were significant differences between L. japonica and the other five origin herbs(P<0.01). The quality of L. similis was significantly different from that of L. fulvotomentosa, L. macranthoides, and L. hypoglauca(P=0.008, 0.027, 0.01), and there were also significant differences in the quality of L. hypoglauca and L. confuse(P=0.001). The PCA and SVM 2D models based on a single spectrum could not be used for the effective identification of the origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos. The data fusion combined with the SVM model further improved the identification accuracy, and the identification accuracy of the mid-level data fusion reached 100%. Therefore, the grey correlation-TOPSIS method can be used to evaluate the quality of the origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos. Based on the infrared spectral data fusion strategy and SVM chemometric model, it can accurately identify the origin herbs of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, which can provide a new method for the origin identification of medicinal materials of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos.

With high rates of morbidity and mortality, cancer continues to pose a serious threat to public health on a global scale. Considering the discrepancies in metabolism between cancer and normal cells, metabolism-based anti-cancer biopharmaceuticals are gaining importance. Normal cells can synthesize arginine, but they can also take up extracellular arginine, making it a semi-essential amino acid. Arginine auxotrophy occurs when a cancer cell has abnormalities in the enzymes involved in arginine metabolism and relies primarily on extracellular arginine to support its biological functions. Taking advantage of arginine auxotrophy in cancer cells, arginine deprivation, which can be induced by introducing recombinant human arginase I (rhArg I), is being developed as a broad-spectrum anti-cancer therapy. This has led to the development of various rhArg I variants, which have shown remarkable anti-cancer activity. This article discusses the importance of arginine auxotrophy in cancer and different arginine-hydrolyzing enzymes that are in various stages of clinical development and reviews the need for a novel rhArg I that mitigates the limitations of the existing therapies. Further, we have also analyzed the necessity as well as the significance of using rhArg I to treat various arginine-auxotrophic cancers while considering the importance of their genetic profiles, particularly urea cycle enzymes.

Triabin, a lipocalin-like thrombin inhibitor from the saliva of the blood-sucking triatomine bug Triatoma pallidipennis, exhibits effective inhibition comparable to hirudin despite binding exclusively at exosite I. Interestingly, it was reported that higher triabin doses would not inhibit thrombin completely, which makes it a promising antithrombotic candidate agent with a larger therapeutic window. However, few structural and functional studies about triabin have been reported in the past three decades, mostly due to the lack of a reliable and practicable recombinant expression technology for this seemingly small protein. In this work, we have adopted the SUMO fusion technology for the expression of triabin in E. coli cells-with facile refolding and purification procedures-and the bioactive triabin was produced in ∼12 mg/L culture medium. Subsequently, the structure-function studies through extensive site-directed mutagenesis reveal that triabin's Phe-106 involved in the hydrophobic contacts plays a surprisingly important role in the thrombin inhibition, in contrast to the negatively charged residues Asp-135 or Glu-128 involved in the salt-bridge interaction. As such, this study complements our understanding of the interaction mechanism of natural thrombin inhibitors, which should facilitate the development of anticoagulant drugs with a novel mode of action against thrombin.

Additive manufacturing of high-performance polymers-such as PA12, PPS, PEEK, and PEKK-combined with industrial-grade carbon fibers with a high fiber volume ratio of up to 60% allows a weight reduction of over 40% compared to classic metal construction. Typically, these 3D-printed composites have a porosity of 10-30% depending on the material and the printing process parameters, which significantly reduces the quality of the part. Therefore, the additive manufacturing of load-bearing structural applications requires a proper consolidation after the printing process-the so-called 'additive fusion technology'-allowing close to zero void content in the consolidated part. By means of the upfront digital modeling of the consolidation process, a highly optimized composite component can be produced while decreasing the number of expensive prototyping iterations. In this study, advanced numerical methods are presented to describe the consolidation process of additive manufactured continuous carbon fiber reinforced composite parts based on the polyamide 12 (PA12) matrix. The simulation of the additive fusion step/consolidation provides immediate accuracy in determining the final degree of crystallization, process-induced deformation and residual stresses, final engineering constants, as well as porosity. The developed simulation workflow is demonstrated and validated with experimental data from consolidation tests on the final porosity, thickness, and fiber-volume ratio.

Since the popularity of the Internet, it is now customary for people to browse the news on the Internet. In the process of browsing news, there are often comments to express and spread personal emotions. This has become a very popular way of spreading news sentiment. This research is based on information fusion technology to realize the research on the identification algorithm of news sentiment communication tendency. Based on the research results of many scholars, this article first elaborates the definition, method, and framework of information fusion technology. In this paper, the corresponding technology is selected, and then in the research of the tendency recognition algorithm, an emotion tendency recognition algorithm based on the integrated probabilistic reasoning model is proposed. The algorithm proved its effectiveness and robustness through experiments. Finally, the experimental results show that in all the parameter combination conditions, the algorithm can not only reduce the feature dimension but also ensure the accuracy of recognition under the probability of 89%.

Neutron area monitors do not often have a good adjustment of their dose response functions to the ICRP74 neutron fluence-to-H*(10) conversion function between 10 and 20 MeV. The objective of this work is to establish a methodology to combine the dose response functions of Berthold LB6411 and WENDI-II, adjusting this combined function to the ICRP74 conversion function: this combination shows an almost perfect adjustment between 0.5 and 20 MeV. Thus, this article presents an easy and cheap alternative to the recalibration in D-T generators.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly prevalent tumor in China. It has an insidious onset, rapid progression, early recurrence and poor prognosis. Most patients are already in the middle and late stages when they are diagnosed and lose the best time for surgery. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of HCC is crucial for patients. In recent years, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) technology has been widely used in the diagnosis of liver diseases, especially in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC, which has an irreplaceable role. Meanwhile, the image fusion technology developed on the basis of CEUS can highlight the value of CEUS in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC.

Human enterokinase light chain (hEKL) specifically cleaves the sequence (Asp)4-Lys↓X (D4K), making this a frequently used enzyme for site-specific cleavage of recombinant fusion proteins. However, hEKL production from Escherichia coli is limited due to intramolecular disulphide bonds. Here, we present strategies to obtain soluble and active hEKL from E. coli by expressing the hEKL variant C112S fused with maltose-binding protein (MBP) through D4K and molecular chaperons including GroEL/ES. The fusion protein self-cleaved in vivo, thereby removing the MBP in the E. coli cells. Thus, the self-cleaved hEKL variant was released into the culture medium. One-step purification using HisTrap™ chromatography purified the hEKL variant exhibiting an enzymatic activity of 3.1 × 103 U/mL (9.934 × 105 U/mg). The approaches presented here greatly simplify the purification of hEKL from E. coli without requiring refolding processes.

We present hybrid nanomaterial architectures, consisting of carbon nanowalls (CNW) templates decorated with tungsten oxide nanoparticles, synthesized using a mechanism based on tungsten oxide sublimation, vapor transport, followed by vapor condensation, in the absence or presence of plasma. The key steps in the decoration mechanism are the sublimation of tungsten oxides, when are exposed in vacuum at high temperature (800 °C), and their redeposition on colder surfaces (400-600 °C). The morphology and chemical composition of the hybrid architectures, as obtained from Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, are discussed with respect to substrate nature and the physical conditions of synthesis. We pointed out that the decoration process is strongly dependent on the temperature of the CNW templates and plasma presence. Thus, the decoration process performed with plasma was effective for a wider range of template temperatures, in contrast with the decoration process performed without plasma. The results are useful for applications using the sensing and photochemical properties of tungsten oxides, and have also relevance for fusion technology, tungsten walls erosion and material redeposition being widely observed in fusion machines.

OBJECTIVE: Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MP-MRI) helps to identify lesion of prostate with reasonable accuracy. We aim to describe the various uses of MP-MRI for prostate biopsy comparing different techniques of MP-MRI guided biopsy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature search was performed for "multiparametric MRI", "MRI fusion biopsy", "MRI guided biopsy", "prostate biopsy", "MRI cognitive biopsy", "MRI fusion biopsy systems", "prostate biopsy" and "cost analysis". The search operation was performed using the operator "OR" and "AND" with the above key words. All relevant systematic reviews, original articles, case series, and case reports were selected for this review. RESULTS: The sensitivity of MRI targeted biopsy (MRI-TB) is between 91%-93%, and the specificity is between 36%-41% in various studies. It also has a high negative predictive value (NPV) of 89%-92% and a positive predictive value (PPV) of 51%-52%. The yield of MRI fusion biopsy (MRI-FB) is similar, if not superior to MR cognitive biopsy. In-bore MRI-TB had better detection rates compared to MR cognitive biopsy, but were similar to MR fusion biopsy. CONCLUSIONS: The use of MRI guidance in prostate biopsy is inevitable, subject to availability, cost, and experience. Any one of the three modalities (i.e. MRI cognitive, MRI fusion and MRI in-bore approach) can be used. MRI-FB has a fine balance with regards to accuracy, practicality and affordability.

BACKGROUND: Ultrasonography (US) is useful when implanting fiducial markers in the liver. However, the implant position is sometimes lost. Recently, real-time image fusion technology (Volume Navigation [V-navi]; GE Healthcare, Milwaukee, WI, USA) has been introduced as a technique for using images from different modalities, and its utility for fiducial marker implantation has been hypothesized. PURPOSE: To evaluate the utility of US-guided fiducial marker implantation in the liver using V-navi compared to conventional US. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 35 patients who underwent fiducial marker implantation for stereotactic body radiation therapy of liver tumors in 2013-2018. To avoid artifacts obscuring the tumor, the target point of implantation was set 10 mm cranial or caudal to the tumor. Marker implantation was then performed using US alone (US group, n = 24) or V-navi with computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (V-navi group, n = 11). Postprocedural CT was evaluated to determine technical success, distances between marker and either tumor surface or target point, and whether marker-induced artifacts obscured the tumor. Complications were also evaluated. Results were compared between groups. RESULTS: Technical success was obtained in 33 patients. Distance between the tumor and marker showed no significant difference between groups. Distance between target point and marker was shorter in the V-navi group (P = 0.0093). Tumor-obscuring artifacts were seen in 12 patients (V-navi group, n = 1; US group, n = 11; P = 0.055). The only complication was minor bleeding in the US group (n = 1). CONCLUSION: V-navi appears useful for US-guided fiducial marker implantation in the liver compared with conventional US.
