BACKGROUND: HIV self-testing (HIVST) offers an innovative and promising approach to increasing HIV testing among Black men in the United States, a population disproportionately affected by HIV. However, engaging Black men in traditional HIV prevention programs has been challenging due to stigma, medical mistrust, and limited access to preventive health services. This formative qualitative study aimed to explore the potential of utilizing barbershops as an example of a nontraditional healthcare venue to promote and distribute HIVST. METHODS: Four virtual focus group discussions (FGDs) consisting of 19 participants in North Carolina were conducted with Black men, including barbershop business owners, barbers, and their customers, to assess perceptions of HIVST and the acceptability of partnering with barbershop businesses to promote HIVST. FGDs were digitally recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using a deductive coding approach to thematic analysis. RESULTS: Participants reported that the trusting relationship between barbers and their customers, which may not exist between Black men and health care providers, is a facilitator of collaborating with barbershop businesses to reach Black men for HIVST distribution. Participants recommended providing education for barbers on the use of HIVST, as well as how to inform self-testers about linkage to care following HIVST to build the credibility of the barbers in delivering the intervention. Participants also raised the issue of the cost of HIVST to barbershop customers as a potential barrier to implementation, as well as the possibility that the implementation of such interventions could be seen as out of place in a barbershop business venue. Participants also expressed a strong belief that compensation to barbershops and their employees should accompany any intervention. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that barbershop business venues may provide an appropriate venue for HIVST promotion and distribution, though factors like cost, training, and incentivization of implementers are necessary to consider in implementation planning. Furthermore, partnerships between public health actors and the business community must be built on equitable engagement to ensure the long-term viability of these critical initiatives.

Public health nursing (PHN) competencies are fundamental for addressing population health inequities. Few pathways exist for employing these competencies in the United States (US). Social entrepreneurship in nursing education might provide opportunities for innovating engagement in population health. Partnerships between business and nursing schools have the potential to fulfill this opportunity. PURPOSE: Explore opportunities for re-invigorating public health nursing through social entrepreneurship education in nursing-business partnerships in U.S. universities. METHODS: Reviewed programs in nursing/business school partnerships from Carnegie-classified R1 Universities. Identified appropriate coursework. RESULTS: Of 96 identified nursing schools, eight had business school partnerships, providing 12 programs. Most programs (n = 11) targeted graduate students and addressed core competencies for entrepreneurship. Five business schools had entrepreneurship expertise. Five nursing schools had PHN expertise. Three programs included population health competencies. DISCUSSION: Despite missed opportunities for advancing social entrepreneurship education among undergraduate and graduate nursing students, existing curricular offerings in the partnerships provide promise. Business/nursing partnerships and PHN knowledge can stimulate the preparation and agency of nurses in addressing population health inequities.

Immigrants are highly entrepreneurial. But, what is the broader relationship between high-skilled immigration and regional entrepreneurship activity beyond the ventures that immigrants establish themselves? Using administrative data on newly awarded H-1B visas in the United States, we document a positive relationship between high-skilled immigration and regional entrepreneurship. A doubling of immigrants to a metropolitan statistical area is followed by a 6% increase in entrepreneurship within three years. In contrast, continuing H-1Bs and the arrival of unskilled immigrants (H-2B visas) do not increase regional entrepreneurship. Focusing on Indian immigrants (representing about 70% of all H-1B visas), we find the effect is stronger in metropolitan statistical areas with a larger local Indian population, but not other nationalities, suggesting that presence of conationals facilitates the relationship between high-skilled immigration and regional entrepreneurship. We present this and other evidence as consistent with a knowledge transfer mechanism.

Purpose: Incubation centres are gaining significant prominence as they play a crucial role in providing supportive environment and encouraging entrepreneurship among students. Considering its importance, the study is intended to offer a thorough knowledge of incubators' role in promoting entrepreneurship growth using data acquired from Dakshina Kannada Management Institutes. It also intends to investigate the efficacy and success of incubators using a variety of metrics. Methods: This study is based on the mixed-method approach, where specifically the concurrent qual-quant approach is adopted. An in-depth interview was undertaken, and a structured questionnaire was formulated to collect the data from final year Masters' students from the Management Institutes. Qualitative analysis was narrated and quantitative analysis was carried out using SPSS 26 and AMOS 23, with descriptive statistics, t-test, regression analysis, and SEM which were utilized to evaluate the association between variables. Results: The study has highlighted the importance of reputation and credibility of the incubation centre, along with the significance of building a strong network as integral factors for learning from it. Overall, the study has found that students' perception of education collaboration, and policy regulatory framework pertaining to incubation centres highly impacted the effectiveness of the incubation centre, which further enhances its success. Implications: This study helps to handle challenges for young entrepreneurs through proper direction and support, by refining their business ideas and collaborations with local and regional businesses to create a healthy entrepreneurship environment by fostering the integration between government bodies, financial institutions, and venture capitalists with the entrepreneurs and key stakeholders. Originality/rationale: As an exceptional highlight than other studies, this study focused on assessing the impact of awareness, perception, education and collaboration, policy and regulatory frameworks, and challenges on the effectiveness of incubators, and success of incubation centre. This has provided the answers to more comprehensive questions pertaining to incubation centre using mixed method approach. The combination of qualitative and quantitative results has identified novel findings which urges the incubation centres to identify the startups with high growth potential where the major challenges lie in convincing the students to implement their own business ideas.

Land transfer is essential for advancing moderate-scale agriculture, and the digital economy plays a key role in facilitating these transfers. Based on microdata from four rounds of the China Household Finance Survey spanning from 2013 to 2019, this study employs a Linear Probability Model (LPM) to examine the impact of digital economy on rural land transfer-out decisions. The results indicate that: (1) The development of the digital economy significantly increases the likelihood of rural households transferring land out. Specifically, for each unit increase in the digital economy index, the probability of a household transferring land out increases by 3.39%. These conclusions remain robust even after accounting for endogeneity and conducting robustness checks. (2) The digital economy facilitates rural land transfer-out by promoting non-agricultural employment and entrepreneurship among farmers, as well as enhancing online social interactions and information acquisition. (3) There are heterogeneous impacts due to different scales and transferees, variations in physical and human capital, as well as differences in village topographies. This study deepens the understanding of the digital economy's impact on land transfer decision-making and provides relevant policy references for facilitating land transfer and agricultural modernization.

Although the notion of social entrepreneurship is not new to us today, it has not yet gained widespread acceptance and development in Vietnam. Although there are numerous study publications on the relationship between empathy and social entrepreneurial intentions, this problem has yet to be studied much in the context of Vietnam's, particularly among youth. The goal of this study is to see if young empathy is linked to their desire to start a social enterprise. Reliability analysis using PLS-SEM software and a binary regression model will be used to examine data obtained from 339 university students in Vietnam. According to the findings, as well as the theory of planned behavior and the theory of action phases, (1) empathy does not directly affect social business intention, but rather indirectly through two mechanisms, social worth and social entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and (2) individuals who are confident in their own abilities have more social entrepreneurship intentions. We provide recommendations based on these findings to inspire young people to pursue social entrepreneurship, contribute to the development of a sustainable economy, and contribute positive values to society.

This study investigates the obstacles encountered by female graduates in China's higher education system when considering entrepreneurship by employing the Theory of Planned Behaviour as an analytical framework. Although entrepreneurship is widely acknowledged as crucial for economic and personal growth, gender inequalities remain, with women being severely underrepresented. The primary objective of this study is to gain insight into the underlying reasons behind the reluctance of female university students, specifically in China, to pursue entrepreneurial ventures. In this study, we conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with female university students from different majors to identify the key barriers that discourage them from starting their businesses. The factors discovered are instrumental and affective attitudes towards entrepreneurship, subjective norms (family, friends, teachers, and others), and perceived behavioural control (encompassing past experiences, second-hand information, and anticipated obstacles). The results showed that a conservative familial atmosphere, risk-averse cultural norms, and limited access to helpful resources and experiences in universities are major obstacles. This study enriches the present knowledge by providing a detailed explanation of the gender-specific obstacles in entrepreneurship in the Chinese context. It proposes that interventions at the educational and governmental levels are imperative to promote female entrepreneurship.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to review the existing research on the antecedents of entrepreneurial networking behavior namely motivational factors and personality factors and its impact on business performance. Design/methodology/approach: This study employs a systematic review methodology, adhering to PRISMA guidelines.. Using the SCOPUS database, the search involved Boolean operators to narrow down relevant articles published in English between 2000 and 2024. Following a meticulous screening process, 32 articles were selected for review after removing duplicates and excluding non-English articles. Methodological quality assessment ensuring focused research questions, precise subject selection methods, representative samples, and reliable measurement instruments was carried out. Findings: The results demonstrate that entrepreneurs who are self-reliant and extroverted have fewer partners, however, these traits positively impact networking activities. The Big Five personality traits predict business creation and success of ventures. Desire for financial gain, risk-taking propensity, self-confidence, and the need for achievement influences networking behavior. Implications: The insights given in this paper can be used for establishing valuable connections, investing in resources, and preparing effective strategies for businesses. Policymakers who aim to promote entrepreneurial behavior among experienced individuals must emphasize the motivations for starting a business and the role of personalities in harnessing and leveraging individual entrepreneurial expertise. Originality: The existing literature on antecedents of entrepreneurial networking Behavior and the relationship of these antecedents together with business performance is limited. Further, this review article also offers avenues for future researchers.

Through detailed case studies and performance evaluations, this paper demonstrates the model's effectiveness and its potential to enhance decision-making capabilities in a competitive business environment. Accurate market trend prediction is crucial in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, and our approach meets this demand. Our model leverages the power of deep learning technology, combining historical market data with diverse market indicators, including sentiment analysis derived from social media, to create an advanced predictive model that surpasses traditional methods. By analyzing data from multiple channels, our model exhibits exceptional accuracy in forecasting future market trends. The case study provides strong evidence of our model's performance and precision, showcasing its significant support for innovators and entrepreneurs navigating complex market trends. Furthermore, this study highlights the vast potential of deep learning technology in the economic sector. We emphasize the importance of developing innovative entrepreneurial market trend prediction models and foresee an increase in project success rates for innovators and entrepreneurs by enhancing decision quality through the adoption of deep learning.

Objective: To develop a valid and reliable scale to measure entrepreneurship competences of nursing students, by assessing the level of development of diverse entrepreneurship dimensions. Methods: An Entrepreneurship Measurement Instrument, Catalonia (IME.Cat) was constructed, by adapting two existing instruments, and a psychometric study was performed to address the validity of the content and the construct, and the reliability. The internal consistency and the discrimination capacity of the instrument's items were examined. Results: The IME.Cat scale showed a high reliability (α=0.89) for the complete set of items. The Cronbach's α value of the individual dimensions were: Problem management=0.78; Creativity=0.76; Personal confidence =0.64; and Risk acceptance =0.46. The corrected homogeneity indices for each of the item in the instrument were high (>0.40). The Confirmatory Factorial Analysis validated the proposed structure of the items according to dimension. Conclusion: The IME.Cat scale showed solid psychometric values for assessing the entrepreneurship competences of nursing students within its dimensions, which are fundamental for the professional development of nursing.

The veterinary field needs more racial diversity to reflect pet owners and the general population. The problem is compounded when we examine diversity in veterinary practice ownership and other entrepreneurial endeavors. The road to business ownership is challenging for minority veterinarians, who must work harder to prove themselves to skeptical clients in a historically white profession. But, diverse veterinarians can succeed as entrepreneurs when they adopt the right mindset, surround themselves with like-minded and supportive peers, develop resilience, accept failure, and learn to pivot when needed to correct their course.

BACKGROUND: Entrepreneurship education is commonly incorporated into areas beyond nursing. However, advocating for curricular changes is necessary in a generation that seeks new learning styles and has different preferences and needs. Entrepreneurship has been identified as a valuable subject to be incorporated into nursing education, as it aligns with the foundational principles of Nursing as a science. AIM: To examine the state of knowledge regarding the entrepreneurship education of undergraduate nursing students. DESIGN: A scoping review was conducted following JBI and reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines. METHODS: The searches were performed on July 19th, 2023, in MEDLINE via PubMed; ISI Web of Science; EBSCOhost CINAHL; Embase; Scopus; BVShost LILACS; and ProQuest. Grey literature was searched on Google Scholar. Records examining the entrepreneurship education of nursing students were included. RESULTS: The searches resulted in 17 records, 15 of which were from databases and two of which were identified via other methods. Although entrepreneurship education has increased over the years, the incorporation of diverse teaching modalities as a transformative and innovative educational strategy is still not a reality for many undergraduate nursing students worldwide. The findings highlight that entrepreneurship education is incorporated theoretically into mandatory courses with curricular components related to administration and health services management. CONCLUSIONS: Entrepreneurship education can pivot nursing education and drive change in educational strategy while maintaining the fundamentals of nursing education. With entrepreneurship education, nursing students envision professional identity values, such as leadership, critical thinking, and political development. When understanding their political role, nursing students can exercise leadership to think critically outside the box and challenge the status quo.

We highlight the relevance of educational programs in addressing the gap between academic research and industrial needs, thereby contributing to sustainable growth in the biotechnology sector.

This paper presents a descriptive study focusing on the productive energy use of women-owned micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises that operate in Africa's food and textile sectors. Through a multidisciplinary approach, combining primary and secondary data collection methods, and integrating quantitative and qualitative tools, this study examines the relationship between the gender-based ownership structure of enterprises (i.e., sole female, female-female, and female-male) and energy consumption patterns, including demand levels, carrier use, access type (on-grid or off-grid), and expenditure. Despite limitations in scope and sample size, the findings shed light on gender-specific productive use practices. Findings show that female-owned businesses primarily rely on single or dual energy carriers, contrasting with female-male enterprises, which typically employ two or more energy carriers. Fuel usage varies among ownership structures, with diesel, biomass, and liquified petroleum gas being notable choices. Increasing diversity in ownership correlates with heightened awareness of energy metrics and monthly demand for electric and mechanical power, with some of the latter correlation also observed for thermal energy. Moreover, as ownership diversity increases, energy expenditure per kilogramme of production output decreases. Some sole female-owned enterprises surpass 100 USD/kg/month, female-female partnerships may reach 100 USD/kg/month, whereas female-male co-owned enterprises remain below 10 USD/kg/month. Beyond contributing to understanding gendered productive energy practices, this research also emphasises the importance of gender mainstreaming in productive use and energy access interventions. It highlights the need for renewable energy solutions, capacity-building programmes, and further research to address efficiency and accessibility challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.

BACKGROUND: Existing models to increase TB case notifications from the private sector in Pakistan are financially unsustainable and have achieved modest success due to limited coverage. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a social enterprise model (SEM) intervention on TB case detection in Karachi, Pakistan, and to assess its financial sustainability. METHODS: Purpose-built centres were established within the private sector that integrated TB screening, diagnostics and treatment and operated 12 hours per day with convenient locations to improve access. TB services were offered free of cost, and revenue generation took place through user fees from other diagnostics. Private providers with a focus on the informal sector were engaged through community workers to generate screening referrals. RESULTS: Overall 171,488 people were screened and 18,683 cases were notified, including 197 individuals with drug-resistant TB. Annual TB notifications in Karachi increased from 18,105 in 2014 to a maximum of 25,840 (40% increase). The proportion of cases in Karachi notified by the centres grew to 27% in 2020. Commercial revenue reached USD288,065 and enabled operating cost recovery of 15%. Average cost per TB case notified was USD203. CONCLUSION: The SEM intervention contributed a large proportion of notifications in Karachi and achieved modest cost recovery.

OBJECTIF: Évaluer l'impact d'un modèle déntreprise sociale (SEM, pour l'anglais « social entreprise model ¼) sur la détection des cas de TB à Karachi, au Pakistan, et évaluer sa viabilité financière. MÉTHODES: Des centres spécialisés ont été créés dans le secteur privé. Ils intègrent le dépistage, le diagnostic et le traitement de la TB et fonctionnent 12 heures par jour dans des lieux adaptés afin dén faciliter l'accès. Les services de lutte contre la TB étaient gratuits et les recettes provenaient des frais d'utilisation des autres diagnostics. Des prestataires privés, axés sur le secteur informel, ont été engagés par l'intermédiaire d'agents communautaires pour orienter les patients vers les services de dépistage. RÉSULTATS: Au total, 171 488 personnes ont été dépistées et 18 683 cas ont été notifiés, dont 197 personnes atteintes de TB résistante aux médicaments. Les notifications annuelles de TB à Karachi sont passées de 18 105 en 2014 à un maximum de 25 840 (augmentation de 40%). La proportion de cas à Karachi notifiés par les centres est passée à 27% en 2020. Les recettes commerciales ont atteint 288 065 USD et ont permis un recouvrement des coûts déxploitation de 15%. Le coût moyen par cas de TB notifié était de 203 USD. CONCLUSION: L'intervention SEM a contribué à une grande proportion de notifications à Karachi et a permis un modeste recouvrement des coûts.

A pandemia gerou impactos sociais e econômicos, como o trabalho informal dos que se ocupam do serviço de café de rua, ampliado na retomada pós-isolamento. O artigo analisa as significações construídas pelas instalações do serviço nas ruas de São Paulo (SP) e Vitória (ES), enquanto manifestações do empreendedo-rismo por necessidade. O corpus foi coletado em dias úteis, no início das manhãs, em diversos pontos das capitais. A semiótica discursiva sustentou a análise, e o seu método permitiu traçar isotopias conectoras de figuras e temas. Os resultados apontam para comunicação dos sentidos da informalidade, casualidade e familiaridade, marcados pela presença feminina, pela autonomia imposta aos sujeitos produtor/vendedor e consumidor e pela conexão entre a energia proporcionada pela bebida e o trabalho. Esses significadosvêm embebidos no risco vivido por esses sujeitos, aconchegados entre si e alijados da proteção de políticas públicas de trabalho, condições sanitárias, serviços de transporte e saúde.


The pandemic has generated social and economic impacts, such as the informal work of those who sell coffee on the streets, expanded in the post-isolation resumption. The article analyzes the meanings constructed by the service facilities in São Paulo (SP) and Vitória (ES), as demonstrations of the entrepreneurship by necessity. The corpus was collected on weekdays, in places of the state capitals. Discursive semiotics underpins the analysis, suggesting connective isotopies of figures and themes. The results point to the communication of the senses of informality, casualness and familiarity, marked by the female presence, by the autonomy imposed on the subjects producer/seller and consumer and by the connection between the energy given by the drink and the work. These meanings are embedded in the risk experienced by these subjects, snuggled among themselves and excluded from the protection of public policies of work, sanitary conditions, transportation and health services.


La pandemia generó impactos sociales y económicos, como el trabajo informal de quienes se ocupan del servicio de café en las calles, ampliado en la reanudación post-aislamiento. El artículo analiza los signifi-cados construidos por las instalaciones de servicios en las calles de São Paulo (SP) y Vitória (ES), como manifestaciones de emprendimiento por necesidad. El corpus fue recolectado entresemana, en puntos de las capitales. La semiótica discursiva sustenta el análisis y permitió trazar isotopías conectoras de figuras y temas. Los resultados apuntan para la comunicación de los significados de informalidad, marcados por la presencia femenina, por la autonomía impuesta a los sujetos productor/vendedor y consumidor, y por la conexión entre la energía dada por la bebida y el trabajo. Estos significados están incrustados en el riesgo vivido por estos sujetos, y excluidos de la protección de las políticas públicas laborales, las condiciones sanitarias, los servicios de transporte y salud.

Resumen: La orientación emprendedora es crucial para que los agricultores desempeñen su actividad económica con mayor crecimiento. El entorno institucional y la colaboración juegan un papel importante para desarrollar habilidades de emprendimiento. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el efecto mediador de las redes de colaboración en la relación de los pilares institucionales y la orientación emprendedora de los campesinos. Se tomó como base la teoría neoinstitucional, la teoría del capital social y la teoría de los recursos y capacidades. Se hizo un estudio empírico con base en un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales. Se realizó un levantamiento de información con 192 productores agrícolas localizados en el estado de Aguascalientes. En la postura emprendedora, la proactividad fue más importante que arriesgarse o ser más innovador para abarcar con mayor profundidad el mercado. La mediación de las redes de colaboración entre los agricultores ayuda con los costos de las regulaciones, el desconocimiento del entorno institucional y la administración de la actividad agrícola.


Abstract: Entrepreneurial orientation is crucial for farmers to carry out their economic activity with greater growth. The institutional environment and collaboration play an important role in de veloping entrepreneurial skills. The objective of this study was to determine the mediating effect of collaboration networks in the relationship between institutional pillars and the entrepreneurial orientation of peasants. The neoinstitutional theory, the theory of social capital and the theory of resources and capabilities are taken as a theoretical basis. It is an empirical study based on a structural equation model. An information survey was carried out with 192 agricultural producers located in the state of Aguascalientes. Relevant results were obtained on the involvement of the entrepreneurial stance, taking into account that the dimension of proactivity is more important than taking risks or being more innovative to cover the market in greater depth. An important finding was that the mediation of collaborative networks between farmers helps lower the costs of regulations and overcome the lack of knowledge about the institutional context and agricultural activity management.

Entrepreneurial Personality (EP) is a collection of traits that causes someone to be entrepreneurial, including both an attraction to and success in entrepreneurial activities. Although EP and its inclusion criteria is defined by its relevance to entrepreneurship, research has yet to support that it relates to entrepreneurial outcomes more strongly than extant frameworks of personality, causing uncertainty regarding its theoretical rationale and conceptual foundation. Applying the bandwidth-fidelity dilemma as our theoretical lens, the current article reports two studies to test whether EP relates to entrepreneurial outcomes beyond the HEXACO and Dark Triad dimensions. Using a sample of non-business owners, Study 1 supports that EP explains both more variance than and variance beyond the HEXACO and Dark Triad in outcomes associated with the earlier phases of the entrepreneurial process, such as entrepreneurial goal setting, goal striving, and goal achievement. Using a sample of business owners, Study 2 supports that EP explains both more variance than and variance beyond the HEXACO and Dark Triad in outcomes associated with the later phases of the entrepreneurial process, including entrepreneurial performance and well-being. These results encourage future research on EP by supporting the validity of the personality framework, and we suggest several directions for future research, such as broader applications of the bandwidth-fidelity dilemma.

RESUMEN

Technology transfer (TT) is a necessary, yet complex process to convey and disseminate scientific knowledge to the commercial sector. However, multiple barriers in TT can impede commercialization and innovative progress. To cultivate a deeper understanding, we conducted five interviews with strategic, elite leaders in different areas of TT in the United States. Experts shared their perspectives on the current state of TT, what needs improvement, and potential solutions to enhance the TT landscape, with a focus on biotechnology and medical devices. The formation of strong management teams, a comprehension of the regulatory, reimbursement, and funding pathways and policies, and thorough market assessments were noted as key aspects for venture success. Collaboration with Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs), industry experts, and strategic partners are also essential to support academic innovators and guide them throughout the complex commercialization process. There is agreement that a venture should have a defined vision and clear goals with a robust business case for the innovation; early involvement of TTOs is essential. Comprehension of the complexities and key facets of TT, while also streamlining the process, will better position biomedical innovators for success.

Background: Although artificial intelligence technologies are still in their infancy, it is seen that they can bring together both hope and anxiety for the future. In the research, it is focused on examining the ChatGPT-4 version, which is one of the most well-known artificial intelligence applications and claimed to have self-learning feature, within the scope of business establishment processes. Methods: In this direction, the assessment questions in the Entrepreneurship Handbook, published as open access by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization of Turkey, which focuses on guiding the entrepreneurial processes in Turkey and creating the perception of entrepreneurship, were combined with the artificial intelligence model ChatGPT-4 and analysed within three stages. The way of solving the questions of artificial intelligence modelling and the answers it provides have the opportunity to be compared with the entrepreneurship literature. Results: It has been seen that the artificial intelligence modelling ChatGPT-4, being an outstanding entrepreneurship example itself, has succeeded in answering the questions posed in the context of 16 modules in the entrepreneurship handbook in an original way by analysing deeply. Conclusion: It has also been concluded that it is quite creative in developing new alternatives to the correct answers specified in the entrepreneurship handbook. The original aspect of the research is that it is one of the pioneers of the study on artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship in literature.
