The hospital environment is often quite complicated due to interdisciplinary workflow procedures and multitasking staff, which are exacerbated during periods of economic crisis. This study aimed to examine the motivation and job satisfaction factors of Greek National Healthcare Service (NHS) employees in relation to the Existence-Relatedness-Growth (ERG) theory of motivation during a period of severe financial constraints. A cross-sectional study was conducted in three public hospitals in Greece from 2018 to 2019, utilizing a survey tool to measure the factors of motivation and job satisfaction among Greek NHS employees. The study also aimed to identify the most relevant motivational theory applicable to the complex Greek hospital environment. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was employed to extract the structural factors of the survey tool, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to identify statistical differences between the means of three or more independent groups. A sample of 363 Greek NHS employees participated in this study. Statistically significant differences were detected between hospital units and job satisfaction factors, as well as between the functions of hospital clusters and job positions. Specifically, managerial staff presented higher levels of job satisfaction, while nursing staff had the lowest scores in terms of psychological contracts when compared to medical and administrative staff. This study demonstrated that job satisfaction in Greek public hospitals, in a context of severe financial constraints, was mainly driven by strong interpersonal connections and employee trust in management, despite significant cuts in salaries, staff numbers, and hospital budgets.

The differentiated characteristics of the silver (elderly) group from other groups means that the previous interaction mechanism in short-form video (SFV) e-commerce is no longer applicable. Drawing on sociotechnical systems theory and the ERG theory, this study is motivated to explore the purchase intention of silver consumers in SFV platforms. We categorize the characteristics of SFV platforms into social and technical aspects, and analyze silver consumers' purchasing decisions in terms of existence, relatedness, and growth needs. The empirical results of 284 samples show that social belonging, perceived trust, and product relevance are positive factors that promote purchase. Information diversity and social interaction have significant positive effects on social belonging and perceived trust. Recommendation affordance is significantly positively associated with perceived trust and product relevance, while platform ease of use did not have a significant effect on perceived trust. The findings provide management insights into SFV platforms to better understand the digital divide faced by silver consumers and to facilitate increased consumption.

Job burnout among young university teachers is a serious issue that can have negative consequences for their well-being and job performance, as well as students' learning outcomes. To identify protective factors for job burnout, this study examined the impacts and mechanism of satisfying existence, relatedness, and growth need on job burnout among 968 young university teachers, using the ERG needs theory framework. The results of the regression analysis and mediation analysis showed that ERG needs satisfaction significantly and negatively predicted job burnout, and job satisfaction mediated this relationship. Besides, the total effect of existence need satisfaction on job burnout was significantly smaller than that of relatedness need satisfaction and growth need satisfaction. These findings contribute to our understanding of the antecedents of young university teachers' job burnout and provide a theoretical basis for practical action to protect them from burnout by enhancing their need satisfaction and job satisfaction.

Objective:To construct a Question Prompt List of information needs for patients with interstitial lung disease, providing a tool for patients with interstitial lung disease to actively obtain disease-related information.Methods:A literature study was conducted based on the three core needs (ERG) theory framework of existence,relatedness and growth. A purposive sampling method was used to select 15 patients with interstitial lung disease from Drum Tower Hospital, Medical School of Nanjing University from December 2021 to January 2022 for descriptive research. Based on literature research and qualitative research, the initial items of the Question Prompt List were determined through expert inquiry, and the items were extracted, discussed, and adjusted, and finalized the list of information needs and prompts for patients with interstitial lung disease.Results:The 19 experts participated in the consultation, with a positive coefficient of 100.0% and 94.7% for two rounds of consultation, an authoritative coefficient of 0.91 and 0.92, and the Kendall coordination coefficient of 0.31 and 0.23, respectively. Finally, a list of interstitial lung disease patients′ question prompts containing 4 primary indicators and 34 secondary indicators was formed.Conclusions:Based on the ERG theory, the research method for the Question Prompt List of information needs for patients with interstitial lung disease is scientific and reliable, and can be used in clinical practice to help patients inquire and obtain the necessary information.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has become an essential field of medical education. Bedside ultrasound has become a necessary skill for clinical physicians. Previous studies have already discussed the importance of advancements in ultrasound education. However, learning motivations for ultrasound education have seldom been analyzed in the literature. For medical students, learning ultrasound could have a relevance for their future career. The Existence, Relatedness and Growth (ERG) theory extended Maslow's hierarchy of needs through these three concepts. This theory has been widely used in the workplace to analyze employee job performance but has not yet been applied in medical education. In this study ERG theory was applied to analyze pre-clinical medical students' learning motivation toward ultrasound education. METHOD: This mixed method study used online questionnaires consisting of open-ended questions as a data collection tool, and based on these results, both qualitative and quantitative analysis were conducted. Participants answered a series of neutral and open-ended questions regarding their motivations to learn ultrasonography. After data collection, a three-step analysis was conducted based on the grounded theory approach. Finally, the results of the thematic coding were used to complete additional quantitative analysis. RESULTS: The study involved 140 pre-clinical medical students, and their responses fell into 13 specific categories. The analysis demonstrated that students' motivations toward ultrasound education were unbalanced across the three ERG domains (F = 41.257, p < .001). Pairwise comparisons showed that students mentioned existence motivation (MD = 39.3%; p < .001) and growth motivation (MD = 40.7%; p < .001) more frequently than relatedness motivation. However, there was no significant difference between existence motivation and growth motivation (MD = - 1.4%; p = .830). CONCLUSION: The results revealed that students placed a high value on existence and growth needs rather than relatedness based on the survey. In addition, the findings suggest that ERG theory can be a useful tool to conduct medical education motivation analysis.

Research on the effect of work value perception on workers' health, especially in emerging economies, is scarce. This study, therefore, explored how work value perception affects the physical and mental health of workers in China. We also examined the mediating role of life satisfaction in the relationship between work value perception and health. Taking a random sample of 16,890 individuals in China, we used ordered probit regression and instrumental variable ordered probit regression to test the links between work value perception and workers' health based on existence, relatedness, and growth (ERG) theory. The results showed that work value perception significantly affected both the physical and mental health of workers; the results remained robust after solving the endogeneity problem. The subsample regression results showed that work value perception significantly affected the physical and mental health of female, male, married, unmarried, religious, and nonreligious workers. Furthermore, life satisfaction mediated the effect of work value perception on workers' health. These results shed light on the relationship between work value perception and health and thus have implications for improving workers' physical and mental health. This study can provide a reference for both governmental and corporate policymakers in emerging economies.

Objective To understand the job satisfaction of health technicians at township health centers and explore the strategies of improvement.Methods Based on the theory of existence,relatedness and growth needs,both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in the study.The quantitative investigation was carried out with the multi-stage cluster sampling method.The questionnaire for township health center personnel was compiled by the research group as a measuring tool for a survey of 803 health technicians from 45 township health centers regarding their existence,relatedness and growth needs in terms of existence,relatedness and growth needs.The data acquired were subject to descriptive analysis and variance analysis.The qualitative investigation was made by means of convenient sampling in personal indepth interviews.The thematic framework method was used to analyze the contents of the interviews.Results The satisfaction of existence needs of health technicians at township health centers scored the lowest(2.59),followed by that of growth needs(2.91),and the highest scoring was relatedness needs(3.56).There exist significant differences in the scoring of existence,relatedness and growth needs,among different personnel category,gender,age,staffing quota,administrative posts,and academic titles.Conclusions The authorities should emphasize the existence,relatedness and growth needs of health technicians at township health centers,and improve their job satisfaction by perfecting the salary distribution system and perfecting the personnel training system.
