This paper proposes the use of the AHP-Gaussian method to support the selection of a smart sensor installation for an electric motor used in an escalator in a subway station. The AHP-Gaussian methodology utilizes the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) framework and is highlighted for its ability to save the decision maker's cognitive effort in assigning weights to criteria. Seven criteria were defined for the sensor selection: temperature range, vibration range, weight, communication distance, maximum electric power, data traffic speed, and acquisition cost. Four smart sensors were considered as alternatives. The results of the analysis showed that the most appropriate sensor was the ABB Ability smart sensor, which scored the highest in the AHP-Gaussian analysis. In addition, this sensor could detect any abnormalities in the equipment's operation, enabling timely maintenance and preventing potential failures. The proposed AHP-Gaussian method proved to be an effective approach for selecting a smart sensor for an electric motor used in an escalator in a subway station. The selected sensor was reliable, accurate, and cost-effective, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the equipment.

Ponta Negra beach is one of the main tourist destinations in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil), which is used by many tourists. This study aimed to perform a temporal analysis of the environmental quality of the beach related to coastal erosion, considering environmental and anthropic parameters at two different times, 10 years apart. The total length of the beach (3 km) was subdivided into 10 sections of approximately 300 m numbered 1-10, from south to north. Eight parameters were assessed based on an attribute scale ranging from the worst to the best possible quality (1-4) found in each section. The sum of the parameters was used to determine the final score. To determine the level of environmental quality, four conditions were considered (excellent, good, regular, and bad). Compared with the first sampling period, the results indicated that 50% of the beach showed reduction in environmental quality. The "excellent" condition, obtained in the first sampling period for two of the sections, was not repeated in the second period. Two situations were responsible for the decrease in beach quality over time: the erosive process that took place after 2012 and consequent reduction in vegetation cover and width of the beach environment. The current state of the beach and its gradual loss of quality over the years indicate an unpromising trend towards recovery. The methodology used in this study can be easily repeated in other locations with similar problems, generating data that can help in understanding local conditions.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the chronic effects of hippotherapy on functional mobility, muscle strength and balance in elderly. METHODS: 28 volunteers, between the age of 60 and 84, were randomly recruited and divided in experimental group (EG), with 12 individuals (8 women and 4 men) and control group (CG), with 16 individuals (14 women and 2 men). The EG group participated in an 8-week hippotherapy program. Before and after the study period functional mobility was assessed and measured by Time Up and Go Test (TUG), muscle strength of the lower limbs was measured by 30s Chair Stand Test (30CST) and performance in balance was measured by the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). A mixed ANOVA model (group×testing time) was applied to establish the effect of the different groups on the functional variables. RESULTS: The functional capacity of the EG group was increased if compared to CG group after the intervention of the BBS (p=0.003) and 30CST (p=0.032), but not of the TUG (p=0.063). CONCLUSION: The results indicated that hippotherapy improves the lower limb strength and balance in elderly.
