RESUMEN

The authors analyzed the results of the clinical and histopathological examination of the eyes of 283 children with an initially diagnosed intraocular tumor. In 32 cases (11.4 p.c.) there was no retinoblastoma but a congenital retinal dysplasia, vitreal dysplasia, Leber-Coats disease, chronic inflammatory conditions, or retinopathy of prematurity. Three eyes exhibited rare forms of intraocular tumors. In 4 cases among 283 (1.4 p.c.) the diagnosis was erroneously negative. One suspected the Leber-Coats, Hippel-Lindau disease or posterior uveitis. The pathological examination revealed the presence of retinoblastoma.

RESUMEN

The toxicological activity of zinc and cadmium is also connected with the negative influence of both compounds on the visual system. The activity of AspAT and AlAT was determined in 68 vitreous bodies and 68 lenses of rabbits exposed to the influence of zinc and cadmium compounds. Under the influence of these compounds the activity of AlAT was higher in the vitreous as well after using the cadmium or the zinc salts. The activity of AspAT did not change in the lens and in the vitreous one could observe a distinctly increased tendency of the activity of this enzyme only after application of the zinc salt.

RESUMEN

The clinical material comprises 157 patients of both sexes treated by means of 60Co plate and xenon photocoagulation for choroidal melanoma. The period of observation amounted 5 to 18 years. Secondary glaucoma occurred in 71 eyes (45.22 p.c.). Forty four eyes were enucleated (61.9 p.c.). In 5 cases a filtering operation was performed; the IOP was controlled in 3. The remaining eyes were treated conservatively. No dependence was observed between the appearing of glaucoma and the sex, age of the patients, location of the tumor, a large dose of radiation and photocoagulation. Instead it was demonstrated a dependence between the appearance of glaucoma and the necessity of enucleation. Also among the deceased patients the group with secondary glaucoma was more numerous then among those who survived.

RESUMEN

Eighty persons with histopathologically confirmed diagnosis of pigmentary conjunctival naevi were operated upon in the period 1977-1986. Subjected to an analysis were the age and the sex of the patients as well as the localization, size and histopathological type of the change. Neither of the treated patients showed any naevus turning malignant and there were no recurrences.

RESUMEN

The authors present a clinical material comprising 94 children (55 boys and 39 girls) with unilateral (28) or bilateral (66) retinoblastoma. The period of observation amounted 5 to 15 years. In 84 children they found advanced changes responding to the fifth grade of the Reese-Ellsworth classification. In 14 cases the tumor expanded behind the eye ball or there was its recurrence. From this group 11 children (78.6%) died. The treatment consisted on application of plates with 60Co, xenon photocoagulation, enucleation, exenteration of the orbit, secondary irradiation of the orbit. The risk factors of the incidence of the orbital changes are discussed.
