RESUMEN

Prognosis of neuropsychiatric disorders in progeny requires consideration of individual (1) parent-of-origin effects (POEs) relying on (2) the nerve cell nuclear 3D chromatin architecture and (3) impact of parent-specific miRNAs. Additionally, the shaping of cognitive phenotypes in parents depends on both learning acquisition and forgetting, or memory erasure. These processes are independent and controlled by different signal cascades: the first is cAMPdependent, the second relies on actin remodeling by small GTPase Rac1 - LIMK1 (LIM-kinase 1). Simple experimental model systems such as Drosophila help probe the causes and consequences leading to human neurocognitive pathologies. Recently, we have developed a Drosophila model for Williams-Beuren Syndrome (WBS): a mutant agnts3 of the agnostic locus (X:11AB) harboring the dlimk1 gene. The agnts3 mutation drastically increases the frequency of ectopic contacts (FEC) in specific regions of intercalary heterochromatin, suppresses learning/memory and affects locomotion. As is shown in this study, the polytene X chromosome bands in reciprocal hybrids between agnts3 and the wild type strain Berlin are heterogeneous in modes of FEC regulation depending either on maternal or paternal gene origin. Bioinformatic analysis reveals that FEC between X:11AB and the other X chromosome bands correlates with the occurrence of short (~30 bp) identical DNA fragments partly homologous to Drosophila 372-bp satellite DNA repeat. Although learning acquisition in a conditioned courtship suppression paradigm is similar in hybrids, the middle-term memory formation shows patroclinic inheritance. Seemingly, this depends on changes in miR-974 expression. Several parameters of locomotion demonstrate heterosis. Our data indicate that the agnts3 locus is capable of trans-regulating gene activity via POEs on the chromatin nuclear organization, thereby affecting behavior.

RESUMEN

The organization of accounting frequency, scope and effectiveness of first medical aid measures could significantly affect improvement of the first aid system in the Russian Federation. According to the score of severity of injury - Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS-90) and the Injury Severity Scale (ISS) and experts review 23.4% of road accident victims who died before the arrival of emergency medical care had survival probability of more than 50%. The total number of first aid cases before the arrival of the ambulance is only 4.4% of all victims of road traffic crashes. More than 60% of victims needed first aid care and treatment. All reporting statistical forms in force in the Russian Federation at the moment do not provide data for accounting cases of first aid. The developed and tested new registration form "First Aid Registration Card", containing necessary indicators of first aid effectiveness, permits quickly to fill out main indicators data of the victim condition and to complete first aid measures. Also it allows to assess the impact of first aid on mortality, disability and timing of temporary disability loss.

RESUMEN

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) with the prevalence of pulmonary microcirculatory thrombosis is considered a common complication of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that develops despite anticoagulation. Methods: The clinical course of the disease and the autopsy findings of seven deceased patients with verified COVID-19 were analyzed. The chest computed tomography (CT) scan was routinely performed while CT pulmonary angiography and a duplex ultrasound scan (DUS) of the lower limbs were used in cases of suspected VTE. The VTE prophylaxis was administered to all patients with intermediate or therapeutic doses of low-molecular-weight heparin. The histological examination of the lung tissue and other organs was performed with particular attention paid to the pulmonary vasculature. Results: Venous thromboembolism, including deep vein thrombosis in one patient and pulmonary artery thrombosis in two patients, was confirmed by imaging tests despite anticoagulation. Systemic thrombolysis was performed in two patients with putative and confirmed pulmonary embolism. An autopsy revealed the signs of acute respiratory distress syndrome in all seven patients. Abnormalities of lung vessels were found in all cases and were represented by dystrophy and necrosis in the endothelium and muscle fibers, and by infiltration by plasmatic cells, neutrophils, and lymphocytes. Multiple clots of variable maturity were observed. All those changes developed despite anticoagulation and were preserved after systemic thrombolysis. Conclusion: Inflammatory and prothrombotic changes in the arterial wall in parallel with the lack of lung perfusion may cause diffuse arterial thrombosis in the lungs. This background may be responsible for the low response to systemic anticoagulation and thrombolysis in severe forms of COVID-19.

RESUMEN

We demonstrate a single-frequency distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) fiber laser based on the novel erbium-doped composite fiber fabricated by melting phosphate glass in a silica tube. The fabricated composite fiber was single-mode at the wavelength of 1.55 µm; the measured cutoff wavelength was 1.4 µm. The composite fiber was photosensitive to irradiation at the wavelength of 193 nm. Using the phase mask method, the DBR fiber laser cavity with the total length of 21 mm was inscribed directly into the erbium-doped composite fiber. A stable single-frequency regime of the fabricated DBR laser at the wavelength of 1565 nm is demonstrated.

RESUMEN

Ultrasound examination and laser autofluorescent spectroscopy were used intraoperatively for evaluation of gastric cancer dissemination. These methods were efficient in differentiation of cancer and benign tumors, estimation of cancer dissemination, revealing of metastases in the liver and lymph nodes. The use of these methods made it possible to increase sensitivity and specificity of estimation of cancer infiltration to 100% and of revealing lymph nodes metastases to 90% and 76%, respectively.

RESUMEN

A study of the injury fatality rate in an adult population was done in the Moscow region. Investigators determined that side by side with the severity of injury, the direct causes of death were erroneous diagnosis, ungrounded delay of surgical interventions, and lack of and insufficient use of necessary medical care. They also showed that the attention of administrative and public health agencies to the material/technical equipment of prehospital and hospital medical service, and to the training of medical personnel, was insufficient and that activity on accident prevention was inadequate. Determination of causes will help to create concrete measures to decrease injury fatality.

RESUMEN

The use of multifactor statistic analysis for screening population of the northern part of the Ob river basin for helminthiasis allowed the authors to reveal a significant feedback between manifested opisthorchiasis and other types of this disease course in both sexes. The main component analysis indicates that the tentatively control group of males is presented by adolescents (14-17 years old) who are likely to be infected with Opisthorchis without evidence of its clinical manifestations. The correlation analysis demonstrated also a direct relationship between the age and manifest opisthorchiasis, as well as double mixed invasion of males (r-0.15 and 0.26, p less than 0.05 and 0.01, respectively). The first three main components explain about 55% variance in the correlation matrix of initial parameters and allow to reveal the variance source, taking into account, along with differentiation of 4 groups of opisthorchiasis patients, also the age- and sex-dependent combination of opisthorchiasis with other helminthic invasions.

RESUMEN

Peculiarities of use of luminescent and semiconductor converters of X-radiation in radioscopy are examined. Characteristic features of X-ray devices (electro-optical transducers, X-ray vidicons, gas discharge and luminescent converters), based on the use of luminescent and semiconductor converters are comparatively analyzed. Estimation of X-ray image quality is given. Use of gas discharge and luminescent converters is found to be the most prospective for medical radioscopy. The aforementioned converters are distinguished by high dose sensitivity, simplicity of the construction and greater size of working field.
