RESUMEN

Background: Psychological distress has been a growing challenge to healthy living worldwide. Special attention has been concentrated on examining the cost of psychological distress on the life satisfaction of college students who are vulnerable groups coping with the challenge. The purpose of this study is to explore the roles of physical literacy (PL) and mindfulness in mediating the impact of psychological distress on life satisfaction among college students in China. Methods: A sample of 653 students from six universities across three cities in China participated in an online survey, which included measures of PL, mindfulness, life satisfaction, as well as stress, anxiety, and depression levels. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was implemented to analyze the survey data. Results: The findings of the SEM analysis demonstrated an acceptable model fit (X2/df = 3.63, CFI = 0.951, TLI = 0.940, RMSEA = 0.068, 90% CI = [0.060, 0.075], SRMR = 0.051) with a large effect size (R 2 = 0.36) for life satisfaction, indicating that 36% of the variation in life satisfaction could be explained by the model. In addition, significant partial-mediation effects of PL and mindfulness were observed in the relationship between psychological distress and life satisfaction. These findings provide empirical support for the notion that interventions targeting PL and mindfulness practices may effectively enhance well-being and alleviate psychological distress among college students. Furthermore, this study suggests that integrating PL and mindfulness components into physical education and activity programs could be beneficial in meeting individuals' holistic health needs.

Background: Salivary lactate has been suggested as a non-invasive anaerobic biomarker in sports medicine for decades, yet has not been widely applied until now. This study aimed to explore possible issues related to its application and suggest directions for future method improvement. Methods: A liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method for the determination of salivary lactate was developed, validated and applied on saliva samples collected from a group of professional sprinters (n = 20). The samples were collected via chewing a cotton ball for one minute and centrifuging it afterwards. The evaluation included variation with mouth rinse times, consistency at different sampling times, change after treadmill or cycle ergometer trainings, and association with blood lactate. Sample sizes were calculated prior to the study. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) and relative standard deviation (RSD) were used to evaluate data variances. Pearson correlation was applied to show correlation between salivary and blood lactate. Effect sizes and power were calculated following ANOVA and correlation analyses. Results: The RSD of the LC-MS method was 19.70%. Salivary lactate concentration was affected by mouth rinse times before sampling (ANOVA p = 0.025, η 2 = 0.40, 1 - ß = 0.99, ICC = 0.23, mean RSD of four sampling = 55.30%), and stabilized after mouth rinsing for three times. The concentrations at resting state across three weeks were consistent at group level (ANOVA p = 0.57, η 2 = 0.03, 1 - ß = 0.20), but varied greatly individually (ICC = 0.22, mean RSD = 56.16%). Salivary lactate level significantly increased after treadmill and cycle ergometer trainings (ANOVA p = 0.0002, η 2 = 0.46, 1 - ß = 0.9999 and ANOVA p = 0.0019, η 2 = 0.40, 1 - ß = 0.9993, respectively), and displayed positive correlation with blood lactate concentration (r = 0.61, p = 0.0004, 1 - ß = 0.9596). Significant difference between male and female participants was observed in none of the tests conducted in this study. Discussion: Salivary lactate was found to be a potential anaerobic biomarker. However, reproducible methods for sample collection and analysis, as well as more knowledge on the secretion mechanism and pattern of salivary lactate are required to make it a practical anaerobic biomarker.

The study aims to examine the mediation effects of physical literacy and physical activity behavior in a relationship between psychological distress and life satisfaction among Chinese college students during the real-life Coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19) circumstance. This study implemented a cross-sectional design, and 1,516 participants from 12 universities participated in this study. Structural equation modeling was used to examine a hypothesized model. The findings indicated an acceptable model fit (X 2[61] = 508.2, Comparative Fit Index [CFI] = 0.958, Tucker Lewis Index [TLI] = 0.946, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation [RMSEA] = 0.076, 90% CI [0.070, 0.082], Standardized Root Mean Square Residual [SRMR] = 0.047). The results indicated that college students with low participation in physical activity could experience less than healthy living conditions. The findings offered empirical support to the theory that physical literacy could advance individuals' healthy living by promoting physical activity participation. The study suggested that educational institutions and physical activity programs should cultivate individuals' physical literacy in order to promote lifelong healthy living.

Compared with normal people, patients with intellectual disability have poor cardiopulmonary and muscle fitness levels, and their daily physical activity generally cannot reach the "guideline-recommended amount," which increases the risk of obesity and cardiovascular disease in this group. From the perspective of six elements of exercise prescription (frequency, intensity, time, form of exercise, amount of exercise, and progressive rate), this paper systematically reviews the current situation of the formulation and implementation of exercise prescription for patients with intellectual disabilities. The results show that the design idea of aerobic fitness exercise prescription for patients with intellectual impairment follows the six-element 5paradigm, but the insufficient recommended amount of each element is a common problem. In the design of muscle fitness exercise prescription, due to the differences of different exercise forms, the description of the six elements is very inconsistent. Although most prescription execution effects show that it is beneficial to improve cardiopulmonary and muscle fitness, there is a great debate on whether it is beneficial to improve body composition. People with intellectual disabilities are highly heterogeneous groups. In the initial stage of exercise intervention, the elements of exercise prescription need to be adjusted individually to obtain sustainable positive benefits.

The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability of the planned behavior theory model (TPB-5) and TPB-6 model of enhanced physical exercise in college students, and to explore the role of exercise commitment in the relationship between exercise intention and behavior, so as to provide theoretical and empirical support for college students to promotion exercise. The study participants were 581 college students (male = 243, female = 338, age = 19.27 ± 0.94) are investigated with Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) Scale, Exercise Commitment Scale, and Physical Activity Rating Scale. Results showed that the explanatory power of the TPB to exercise intention and exercise behavior is 0.70 and 0.52, respectively, and exercise intention was the primary factor to predict exercise behavior of college students. The Model fit of TPB-6 model is acceptable, compared with TPB 5-factor model, the predictive power of TPB-6 (with the mediator: exercise commitment) on behavioral intention increases from 70.0 to 75.0%, and the predictive power towards behavior raises from 52.0 to 59.0%. Exercise commitment has a partial mediating effect between exercise intention and behavior, which accounts for 26.89% of the total effect, but it has no moderating effect. In conclusion, this research demonstrates the TPB-5 model has good applicability among the college students, with exercise commitment variables, exercise intention can better predict college students' exercise behavior, which can be used as the theoretical basis for the intervention on their exercise behavior.
