RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo explore the effects of body mass index (BMI) and the levels of serum inflammatory cytokines on asthma control in children with asthma.

METHODSOne hundred and sixteen children with asthma were divided into three groups: normal (n=59), thin (n=31), and obesity (n=26) based on their BMI. The levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) were determined using ELISA, and the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) was measured by immunoturbidimetric assays. Asthma control status in each group was evaluated by the Childhood Asthma Control Test (C-ACT) after 4 weeks of treatment.

RESULTSThe serum levels of IL-6, hs-CRP, and TNF-α were highest in the obesity group, followed by the thin group and the normal group (P<0.05), while the C-ACT score was highest in the normal group, followed by the thin group and obesity group (P<0.05). The normal group had significantly higher complete controlled and partially controlled rates than the thin and obesity groups (P<0.05); however, there were no significant differences between the thin and obesity groups (P>0.05). The levels of IL-6, hs-CRP, and TNF-α were negatively correlated with the C-ACT score (P<0.05). There were no significant correlations of BMI with the C-ACT score and levels of IL-6, hs-CRP, and TNF-α (P>0.05).

CONCLUSIONSWhen BMI is too high or too low, the levels of serum inflammatory cytokines are all increased, which is harmful to asthma control. Maintaining a healthy weight in children with asthma may reduce the levels of serum inflammatory cytokines and improve the asthma control rate.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of fixation of Kirschner needle and thread cancellous bone screw through the sinus tarsi interstice for the treatment of calcaneal fractures.

METHODSFrom January 2009 to December 2012,20 patients with calcaneal fracture were treated by minimally invasive Kirschner wire and threaded cancellous bone screw fixation and bone graft, including 12 males and 8 females with an average age of 39 years old ranging from 21 to 65. Among them, 8 cases were left foot, 12 were right foot. According to Sanders's classification, 8 cases were type II, 10 cases were type III, 2 cases were type IV.

RESULTSAll patients were followed up from 6 to 16 months with an average of 12 months. The incision were healed. Böhler angle were increased from preoperative (17.75 +/- 4.22) degrees to postoperative (26.85 +/- 7.37) degrees (t = 4.308, P = 0.000). Gissane angle were reduced from preoperative (137.05 +/- 24.91) degrees to postoperative (113.75 +/- 13.17) degrees (t = 7.083, P = 0.000). At 3 months after operation, the scores of AOFAS were 85.50 +/- 7.99; the results were excellent in 5 feet and good in 11 feet, fair in 3 feet, and poor in 1 foot.

CONCLUSIONMinimally invasive fixation of Kirschner needle and thread cancellous bone screw fixation is a simple operation, it can get reliable fixation, easy to remove, low cost, less postoperative complications, and it is a good treatment of calcaneal fracture.

RESUMEN

Objective To test and evaluate the effect of neck muscular strength training for military pilots at different time durations based on a self-developed pilot neck muscle training device. Methods The neck muscular strength training device, CME-1, was used to train the military pilots and military smithery members for 2, 3 and 6 weeks, respectively. The isometric and changeable velocity and resistant (CVR) modes were performed and the neck muscular strength at those different time durations was measured to evaluate the training effect. Results For all 60 military pilots trained at different time durations, the average neck muscular strength and the mean value of peak impulse in 10 seconds in anteflexion, retroflexion, right/left lateroflexion were significantly improved after training (P0.05). For 11 military smithery members after 6 weeks’ training, both the average muscular strength and the mean value of peak impulse in 10 seconds in all directions were significantly enhanced (P<0.001), with the average muscular strength increased by 71.1%, 83.7%, 78.6% and 75.2% respectively, while the mean value of peak impulse in 10 seconds was increased by 136.9%, 138.5%, 114.1% and 114.4%, respectively. Conclusions This study provides the physiological basis for establishing the military standards of neck muscular strength training for different fighter pilots, the proper method for training those pilots with low neck muscular strength, as well as the reference of neck muscular training duration and strength target for high performance aircrafts and carrier aircrafts.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo identify a novel human leukocyte antigen (HLA) B allele and explore its family heritage.

METHODSA novel HLA allele was suspected upon routine HLA typing using a polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific oligonucleotide probe (PCR-SSOP) assay. The sequence was confirmed with DNA sequencing and compared with its closest matching allele, B*55:02. The family was also investigated.

RESULTSAn unusual reaction pattern was detected during routine HLA typing. The sequence was confirmed to be a novel HLA-B allele, which differed from the closest matching allele, B*55:02 in 7 nt positions in exon 2. Among the 7 mutations from 6 codons, there were two amino acids changes including 69Glu→Met and 70Glu→Ala.

CONCLUSIONA novel HLA-B allele has been identified and officially named as B*55:35 by the WHO Nomenclature Committee for Factors of the HLA System (GenBank accession number FJ898284).

RESUMEN

Objective To find out and clarify the causes and the pathogens of vulvovagmitis in childhood girls, to determine the clinical treatment. Methods There were 345 cases of childhood girls .ranged from 18 days to 12 years, with symptoms of vulvovagini tis, and their vaginal secretions were examined by routine smear for cleaning degree, trichomonas , Candida and clue cells, gram-stain for neisseria gonorrhoeae, culture for bacteria, mycoplasma urealytium, mycoplasma hominis and chlamydia trachomatis. Results One hundred and nine pathogens were detected(31.6% of the whole cases ), including specific pathogen 70 cases(20. 3% )and non-specif ic pathogen 32 cases(9.3%). Gardnerella was detected most frequently in specific pathogen while enteric bacilli was detected most frequently in non-specific pathogen. Conclusions Non-specific vulvovaginitis is the most frequent cause in childhood vulvovagimtis, and bacterial vaginosis is the mast frequent in specific infection. Symptomatic treatment is effective, but antibiotic treatment should be based on pathogenic findings of vaginal secretions.
