RESUMEN
ABSTRACT Purpose: To assess the effects of the preoperative application of artificial tears combined with recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor on the ocular surface function and inflammatory factor levels after operation in cataract patients complicated with dry eyes. Methods: A total of 118 cataract patients (118 eyes) complicated with dry eyes treated from February 2019 to February2020 were assigned to control and observation groups (n=59 eyes/group) using a random number table. One week before the operation, the control group was administered 0.1% sodium hyaluronate eye drops (artificial tears), based on which the observation group received Beifushu eye drops (recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor), both 6 times daily for 1 week. A comparison was made between the scores of clinical symptoms and the indices of ocular surface function, inflammatory factors in tears, and oxidative stress indices before and after the operation. The ocular surface function was evaluated by an ocular surface disease index questionnaire, tear film breakup-time assay, Schirmer's I test, and corneal fluorescein stain test. The inflammatory factors in tears were measured. Results: No significant differences were noted in the general data and clinical symptom score, ocular surface disease index, tear film breakup-time, Schirmer's I test score, fluorescein stain score, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, lipid peroxide, and total antioxidant capacity before treatment between the 2 groups (p>0.05). After treatment, the clinical symptom score, ocular surface disease index, fluorescein stain score, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-6, malondial-dehyde and lipid peroxide declined significantly, and tear film breakup-time, Schirmer's I test score, superoxide dismutase, and total antioxidant capacity increased in both the groups. The improvements in the clinical symptom score as well as in the indices of ocular surface function, inflammatory factors, and oxidative stress were more prominent in the observation group than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Artificial tears combined with recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor before operation. significantly improved the ocular surface function, reduced inflammatory factors in tears, and alleviated dry eye symptoms after operation in cataract patients.
Soybean and derived products are among the most important food for both humans and animals. China is the world's largest importer of soybeans, with more than 100 million tons of annual imports, mainly from the United States of America (US), Brazil, and Argentina. However, there have been limited studies on the microbiota associated with imported soybean grains. Here, we reveal the soybean microbiota using amplicon sequencing based on samples from four countries on three continents of North America (US), South America (Argentina, Brazil), and Asia (China). Our results showed that the soybean-associated microbiota from different continents significantly separated, presenting strong geographic variations. The core microbial taxa and geographically specified taxa were defined, with Alternaria, Enterobacter, Plectosphaerella, Stenotrophomanas, and Xeromyces defined as the core microbiota for soybean from Asia; Amanita, Aspergillus, Fusarium, Nigrospora, Herbiconiux, Pseudomonas, Saccharopolyspora, and Schumannella from North America; and Bradyrhizobium, Colletotrichum, Filobasidium, Phialosimplex, Mycosphaerella, Septoria, Sphingomonas, and Weissalla, from South America. In addition, we build the Random Forest (RF) model to predict the source of imported soybean grains. We could accurately predict the original countries of imported soybean grains within the RF prediction models, with accuracies greater than 95 %. We constructed a database of soybean-related quarantine pathogens using full-length sequences of fungal ITS region and bacterial 16S rDNA region. Two phytopathogenic fungi, Diaporthe caulivora and Cladosporium cucumerinum, listed in the Chinese quarantine catalog, were intercepted through metabarcoding sequencing. The former was further confirmed using an available national standard protocol of qPCR diagnosis. In summary, our NGS-based approach revealed the microbiota associated with soybeans. It could provide comprehensive information and valuable method on the trace the origin of soybean and detection of quarantine pathogens at Customs and departments of inspection and quarantine.

Cassava Mosaic Disease (CMD) caused by Sri Lankan cassava mosaic virus (SLCMV), has rapidly spread in Southeast Asia (SEA) since 2016. Recently it has been documented in Lao PDR. Previous reports have identified whitefly species of B. tabaci as potential vectors of CMD in SEA, but their occurrence and distribution in cassava fields is not well known. We conducted a countrywide survey in Lao PDR for adult whiteflies in cassava fields, and determined the abundance and genetic diversity of the B. tabaci species complex using mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (mtCOI) sequencing. In order to expedite the process, PCR amplifications were performed directly on whitefly adults without DNA extraction, and mtCOI sequences obtained using nanopore portable-sequencing technology. Low whitefly abundances and two cryptic species of the B. tabaci complex, Asia II 1 and Asia II 6, were identified. This is the first work on abundance and genetic identification of whiteflies associated with cassava in Lao PDR. This study indicates currently only a secondary role for Asia II in spreading CMD or as a pest. Routine monitoring and transmission studies on Asia II 6 should be carried out to establish its potential role as a vector of SLCMV in this region.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the in vivo anti-metastatic activity of the red pigments of red yolk eggs laid by the ducks dieting on Potamogeton cripus L on the mammary carcinoma (4T1). The pigments were extracted with petroleum ether and acetone (2:1, v/v). BALB/c mice were divided into three groups (n=6), fed with the extracts at 150 mg/kg body weight (BW)/day (DEYE-H) or at 50 mg/kg BW/day (DEYE-L) and identical buffer without the extract (control group). The extracts were administered for 34 days. The treatment significantly inhibited the growth of orthotopical 4T1 tumour (DEYE-H vs control, 1:2; DEYE-L vs control, 2:3) and reduced the metastasis of tumour in the lungs (DEYE-H vs control, 4:7; DEYE-L vs control, 5:7), without statistical difference of body weight among the three groups.
RESUMEN
Homodesmotic reaction and isodesmotic reaction were designed for the computation of strain energies (SE) for a series of cubane derivatives. Total energies of the optimized geometric structures at the DFT-B3LYP/6-31G* level were used to derive the SE. The SE value of cubane is 169.13 kcal/mol for homodesmotic reaction, which is in good agreement with the experimental value. The variation of SE with respect to the number of substituents is similar for the homodesmotic reaction and isodesmotic reaction. The SE values of polynitrocubane and polydifluoroaminocubane increase slightly as up to four substituent groups being added to the cage skeleton. On contrary, the SE dramatically increases when the number of substituent groups m increases from 5 up to 8. For polynitratocubane, the SE decreases slightly at the beginning then increases as the number of group increases. For polyazidocubane, there are very small group effects on the SE. Among four types of substituent groups, the nitro group has greatest effect on the strain energy of caged cubane skeleton. The calculated SE value of octanitrocubane is 257.20 kcal/mol, while that of octaazidocubane is 166.48 kcal/mol via isodesmotic reaction. The azido group releases the strain energy of cubane skeleton when the number of azido groups is less than 7. The interactions among the substituted groups deviated from group additivity. The substituted groups withdraw electrons from the cubane, reducing the repulsion between C-C bonds and resulting the release the strain of the skeleton for isomers with fewer substituents. Group repulsions increase sharply with more and more nitro, nitrato and difluoroamino groups being attached to cubane, resulting large strains of the skeleton. The average negative charges of the substituted groups influence the strain energy of cubane derivatives.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) in childhood is associated with abnormalities in cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). STUDY DESIGN: Subjects with PSC diagnosed in childhood (n = 20) were recruited from Children's Hospital. Subjects had testing with sweat chloride concentration, nasal transmembrane potential difference, and extensive genetic analysis of the CFTR gene. Disease control subjects consisted of 14 patients with inflammatory bowel disease alone and no liver disease. t tests were performed to determine statistical significance. RESULTS: In the PSC group, CFTR chloride channel function (deltaChloride free + isoproterenol) was markedly diminished at -8.6 +/- 8.2 mV (reference range: -24.6 +/- 10.4 mV). In contrast, disease control subjects had normal function, at -17.8 +/- 9.7 mV (P = .008). Sweat chloride concentration in subjects with PSC was greater than in disease control subjects (20.8 +/- 3.4 mmol/L vs 12.0 +/- 1.6 mmol/L, P = .045). Comprehensive CFTR genotyping revealed that 5 of 19 (26.3%) subjects with PSC had a CFTR mutation or variant, compared with 6 of 14 (42.9%) disease control subjects. CONCLUSIONS: There is a high prevalence of CFTR-mediated ion transport dysfunction in subjects with childhood PSC.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether valproic acid (VPA) influences urinary levels of 15-F2t -isoprostane (15-F2t -IsoP), a marker of oxidative stress, in children. STUDY DESIGN: Morning urine samples were collected from children with epilepsy receiving VPA (n = 25), carbamazepine (n = 16), or clobazam (n = 12) for > or = 4 weeks and from age-matched control subjects (n = 39). Urinary 15-F2t -IsoP levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: The mean (+/- standard deviation) urine 15-F2t -IsoP levels (nmol/mmol Cr) were: valproic acid (0.36 +/- 0.15); carbamazepine (0.24 +/- 0.10); clobazam (0.23 +/- 0.10); control group (0.20 +/- 0.09). Patients treated with VPA had significantly elevated 15-F2t -IsoP levels when compared with the control, carbamazepine, and clobazam groups (P < .05). Multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated that younger patient age and exposure to second-hand smoke were significant predictors of elevated urine 15-F2t -IsoP levels within the control group (r2 = 0.261, P = .05 and P = .01, respectively). Subjects not exposed to second-hand smoke receiving valproic acid therapy had a significantly elevated mean urine 15-F2t -IsoP level compared to subjects not exposed to second-hand smoke in the carbamazepine, clobazam and control groups (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS: These data demonstrate that treatment of children with VPA is associated with higher urinary levels of 15-F2t -IsoP, a marker of oxidative stress.

A biological treatment technique for wool textile was carried out by enzymes degradation coupled with H2O2 oxidation. The results demonstrated that the technique had ideal effects on wool textile such as better softness, plump and less loss of bursting stress. Because of mild reaction conditions, less textile damage and less environmental pollution, this technique for wool textile treatment could have promising prospect.
