RESUMEN

A new binuclear Gd(III) complex, [Gd2(L)6(Phen)2]·4H2O, was synthesized via the reaction of gadolinium(III) nitrate hexahydrate, 4-acetylphenoxyacetic acid (HL), NaOH, and 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) in a solution of water-ethanol (v:v = 1:1). The Gd(III) complex was characterized using IR, UV-vis, TG-DSC, fluorescence, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. The results showed that the Gd(III) complex crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P-1, and each Gd(III) ion was coordinated with two nitrogen atoms (N1, N2, or N1a, and N2a) from two Phen ligands and seven oxygen atoms (O1, O2, O7a, O9, O8, O8a, O10a, or O1a, O2a, O7, O8, O8a, O9a, and O10) from six L ligands, respectively, forming a nine-coordinated coordination mode. The Gd(III) complex molecules formed a one-dimensional chained and three-dimensional network structure via benzenering π-π stacking. The Hirschfeld surface analysis and the calculations of the electron density distributions of the frontier molecular orbitals of the Gd(III) complex were performed. The catalytic activities of the photocatalytic CO2 reduction and benzyl alcohol oxidation using the Gd(III) complex as a catalyst were performed. The results of the photocatalytic CO2 reduction showed that the yield and the selectivity of CO reached 41.5 µmol/g and more than 99% after four hours, respectively. The results of the benzyl alcohol oxidation showed that the yield of benzaldehyde was 45.7% at 120 °C with THF as the solvent under 0.5 MPa O2 within 2 h.

A new Cu(II) complex, [CuL1L2(CH3COO)2(H2O)]·H2O, was synthesized by the reaction of Cu(CH3COO)2·H2O, 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid (HL1), and 4-[5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]pyridine (L2) in ethanol-water (v:v = 1:1) solution. The Cu(II) complex was characterized using elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, TG-DTA, and single-crystal X-ray analysis. The fluorescence properties of the copper complex were also evaluated. The structural analysis results show that the Cu(II) complex crystallizes in the triclinic system with space group P-1. The Cu(II) ion in the complex is five-coordinated with one O atom (O2) and one N atom (N1) from one 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylate ligand (L1), one N atom (N2) from 4-[5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]pyridine ligand (L2), one O atom (O4) from acetate, and one O atom (O5) from a coordinated water molecule, and it adopts a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry. Cu(II) complex molecules form a two-dimensional layer structure through intramolecular and intermolecular O-H…O hydrogen bonding. The two-dimensional layer structures further form a three-dimensional network structure by π-π stacking interactions of aromatic rings. The analysis of the Hirschfeld surface of the Cu(II) complex shows that the H…H contacts made the most significant contribution (46.6%) to the Hirschfeld surface, followed by O…H/H…O, N…H/H…N and C…H/H…C contacts with contributions of 14.2%, 13.8%, and 10.2%, respectively. In addition, the photocatalytic CO2 reduction using Cu(II) complex as a catalyst is investigated under UV-vis light irradiation. The findings reveal that the main product is CO, with a yield of 10.34 µmol/g and a selectivity of 89.4% after three hours.

A Cd-MOF was constructed based on 3,5-bis(4-carboxyphenyl) pyridine under solvothermal conditions. Its structure and phase purity were verified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Thereafter, some studies on the morphology, structure, and luminescent properties of the compound were carried out. The compound exhibited a highly sensitive response to Fe3+, Cr(IV), trinitrophenol (TNP), and colchicine based on the fluorescence-quenching mechanism. The possible mechanism of luminescence quenching was discussed in detail.

A new dinuclear Gd(III) complex was synthesized and named [Gd2(L)4(Phen)2(H2O)2(DMF)2]·2H2O·2Cl (1). Here, L is the 6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylate anion, Phen represents 1,10-phenanthroline, DMF is called N,N-dimethylformamide, and Cl- is the chloride anion, which is characterized by IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structural analysis reveals that complex (1) is a cation-anion complex, and each Gd(III) ion is eight-coordinated with four O atoms (O1, O5, O2a, O4a, or O1a, O2, O4, O5a) of four different bidentate L ligands, two O atoms (O6, or O6a) of DMF molecules, two N atoms (N1, N2, or N1a, N2a) of Phen ligands, and two O atoms (O3 or O3a) of coordinated water molecules. Complex (1) forms the three-dimensional π-π stacking network structure with cavities occupied by chloride anions and uncoordinated water molecules. The Hirschfeld surface of the complex (1) shows that the H···H contacts represented the largest contribution (48.5%) to the Hirschfeld surface, followed by C···H/H···C and O···H/H···O contacts with contributions of 27.2% and 6.0%, respectively. To understand the electronic structure of the complex (1), the DFT calculations have been performed. The photocatalytic CO2 reduction activity shows complex (1) has excellent catalytic activity with yields of 22.1 µmol/g (CO) and 6.0 µmol/g (CH4) after three hours. And the selectivity of CO can achieve 78.5%.

BACKGROUND: The 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) is a widely used measure of perceived stress that has been validated in various populations, yet with inconsistent results on its factor structure. The present study examines the reliability and validity of the PSS-10 in a population not previously examined: Chinese family caregivers of persons with schizophrenia, with a focus on factor analysis. METHODS: A sample of 449 family caregivers of persons with schizophrenia was recruited for psychometric testing of the scale. The factor structure of PSS-10 was tested by randomly dividing the sample into two groups for both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The scale was further tested for internal consistency, test-retest reliability, convergent validity, discriminant validity and concurrent validity. RESULTS: EFA extracted two factors: perceived helplessness with six negative phrasing items and perceived efficacy with four positive phrasing items. CFA confirmed the structure of two factors with satisfactory model fit indices. Convergent validity was supported by high standard regression weight (0.78-0.92), average variance extracted (AVE=0.79-0.81) and composite reliability (0.88-0.94), while discriminant validity was confirmed by higher AVE estimates than the squared interconstruct correlations. The PSS-10 showed good internal consistency and test-retest reliability, with Cronbach's alpha of 0.79 and intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.91, respectively. Concurrent validity was demonstrated by its significant positive correlations with stigma, depression and anxiety, as well as significant negative correlations with social support, family functioning and positive caregiving experiences. CONCLUSION: The two-factor PSS-10 has good psychometric characteristics assessing the perceived stress of family caregivers of people with schizophrenia. The findings indicate that the PSS-10 can be used to measure perceived stress in future research and practice among caregivers of people with schizophrenia, and potentially, other caregiving samples.

Preterm delivery is greatly associated with perinatal mortality and morbidity, while there is no objective way to identify high-risk newborns currently. This study aimed at discovering the risk factor for Apgar score less than 7 at 1 minute of preterm neonates born with vaginal delivery. A retrospective study was performed in single pregnancy women with a vaginal delivery before 37 weeks of gestation. All the preterm infants were categorized into three types: very preterm birth (28 to 32 weeks), moderate preterm birth (32 to 34 weeks) and late preterm birth (34 to 37 weeks). Risk factors were identified through logistic regression analysis in every category of newborns mentioned above. And the receiver operating characteristic analysis was used in continuous variables to determine the best threshold of the outcome. On the basis of the selected factors, the predicting models are created and its prognosticating ability is compared by the area under the curve. A nomogram was established for the proved best model. A total of 981 cases were investigated, of whom 55 were found with 1 min Apgar scores less than 7. The nomogram was set for the predicting model with larger area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, of which is 0.742(95% confidence interval = 0.670-0.805) in very preterm birth, with the variables of first and second labor stage(> = 1.6 hours), birthweight and MgSO4(magnesium sulfate), and is 0.807(95% confidence interval = 0.776-0.837) in late preterm birth, with the variables of second labor stage(> = 1.23 hours), birthweight, a history of previous cesarean delivery, fetal distress and placental abruption. The combination of first and second labor stage, newborn weight and MgSO4 use can predict 74.2% of 1 minute Apgar score < 7 in very preterm neonates. And 80.7% high-risk infants can be identified when second labor stage, newborn weight, VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and the occur of placental abruption and fetal distress were combined in the predicting model for late preterm birth. These predicting models would bring out great assistance towards obstetricians and reduce unnecessary adverse fetal outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Caring for a family member with schizophrenia is associated with a significant burden, but may also bring about positive transformation among caregivers, which were rarely studied simultaneously. AIMS: The current study aims to investigate the association between caregiver burden and positive aspects of caregiving (PAC), as well as explore and compare the correlates of each. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a representative urban sample of schizophrenia family caregivers in China (N = 406). Participants were interviewed individually to complete questionnaires regarding socio-demographics, caregiver burden, PAC, and psychosocial factors that included social support, coping, and family functioning. RESULTS: The caregivers reported moderate levels of both caregiver burden (mean:43.05 ± 18.26, range: 0-88) and PAC (mean: 25.88 ± 9.59, range: 0-36), which were not significantly associated with each other (r = -0.06, p = 0.25) and had different correlates. Parent caregivers, middle and high school education, additional dependents, lower level of social support, and frequent endorsement of active and passive coping were all associated with more caregiver burden. Higher levels of social support, active coping, and family functioning were associated with higher PAC. CONCLUSIONS: Caring for a family member with schizophrenia can be both burdensome and rewarding. Caregiver burden and PAC coexist yet are unrelated with different correlates. Future research and intervention programs should not only focus on mitigating caregiver burden but also enhancing PAC, which may be realized through the improvement of social support, active coping, and family functioning while paying special attention to various socio-demographics.

OBJECTIVES: To construct a Felis catus STR loci multiplex amplification system and to evaluate its application value by testing the technical performance. METHODS: The published Felis catus STR loci data were reviewed and analyzed to select the STR loci and sex identification loci that could be used for Felis catus individual identification and genetic identification. The fluorescent labeling primers were designed to construct the multiplex amplification system. The system was validated for sensitivity, accuracy, balance, stability, species specificity, tissue identity and mixture analysis, and investigated the genetic polymorphisms in 145 unrelated Felis catus samples. RESULTS: Sixteen Felis catus autosomal STR loci and one sex determining region of Y (SRY) were successfully selected, and constructed a multiplex amplification system containing the above loci. The complete profile of all alleles could still be obtained when the amount of DNA template was as low as 0.25 ng. There was no specific amplification peak in other common animal samples. Population genetic surveys showed that total discrimination power (TDP) of the 16 STR loci was 1-3.57×10-20, the cumulative probability of exclusion (CPE) was 1-6.35×10-5 and the cumulative probability of matching was 3.61×10-20. CONCLUSIONS: The Felis catus STR multiplex amplification system constructed in this study is highly sensitive, species-specific, and accurate in typing results, which can provide an effective solution for Felis catus species identification, individual identification and kinship identification in the field of forensic science.

BACKGROUND: Mixed neuroendocrine-nonneuroendocrine neoplasm (MiNEN) is a rare tumor that occurs in the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas, usually composed of adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine carcinoma. MiNEN occurring in ampulla is even rarer. We report 4 cases of MiNEN in ampulla, combined with literature review to summarize the clinical features and treatment of the disease, in order to improve the understanding of the disease. CASE SUMMARY: A retrospective analysis was performed in 4 cases of MiNEN of the ampulla diagnosed by pathology from 2014 to 2021. The 4 patients were all male, aged 67-81 years (average 72.25 years). Among them, 2 patients had jaundice, 1 patient had abdominal pain, and 1 patient had jaundice with abdominal pain as the first symptom. All 4 patients underwent enhanced CT or MRI, which all indicated that the tumors were located in the ampulla. Two patients underwent duodenoscopy, and a biopsy revealed ampullary adenocarcinoma. All 4 patients underwent radical pancreaticoduodenectomy. Four cases were followed up: One patient developed severe complications after the operation, his condition deteriorated, and he survived for 1 mo. In the other 3 patients, tumor recurrence was observed during follow-up, and 2 of them survived for 29 mo and 22 mo respectively. One case survived and is still being followed up. CONCLUSION: MiNEN of the ampulla are extremely rare, lacking typical clinical symptoms and imaging features, and are usually diagnosed after postoperative histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations. The main treatment is radical surgical resection, which can be combined with chemotherapy. The best method of diagnosis and treatment needs further research.

OBJECTIVES@#To develop the birth weight curve of singleton neonates with a gestational age of 24-42 weeks, and to investigate the regional differences of the birth weight curve.@*METHODS@#A total of 11 maternal and child health hospitals with more than 7 000 neonates delivered annually were selected in 11 cities of China (Haikou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Liuzhou, Guilin, Quanzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Changsha, Ningbo, and Lianyungang), and all live singleton neonates delivered in the 11 hospitals from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2020 were enrolled for the development of birth weight curves.@*RESULTS@#A total of 93 720 singleton neonates with a gestational age of 24-42 weeks from the 11 cities were included in the study. The reference values of the 3rd-97th percentiles of birth weight of singleton neonates for the total of the 11 cities and for each of the 11 cities were established, and the birth weight percentile curves were drawn. The birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in Shenzhen and Quanzhou was almost the same as the average level of the 11 cities; the birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in Haikou, Guangzhou, Guilin, and Liuzhou was slightly lower than the average level of the 11 cities; the birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in Chongqing, Chengdu, and Changsha was slightly higher than the average level of the 11 cities; the birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in Ningbo and Lianyungang was higher than the average level of the 11 cities. The average birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in the 11 cities were very close to that of China Neonatal Cooperation Network in 2011-2014.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The reference values of the 3rd-97th percentiles of birth weight of singleton neonates for the total of the 11 cities and for each of the 11 cities are developed, which can be used as a reference for evaluating the intrauterine growth of singleton neonates in the region. The level of intrauterine growth of neonates in some cities is different from the national level.

Objective: To isolate and purify a bacteriophage against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and to analyze its genomic information and biological characteristics. Methods: The experimental research methods were adopted. MRSA (hereinafter referred to as host bacteria) solution was collected from the wound of a 63-year-old female patient with the median sternum incision infection admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University (the Third Military Medical University). The bacteriophage, named bacteriophage SAP23 was isolated and purified from the sewage of the Hospital by sewage co-culture method and double-layer agar plate method, and the plaque morphology was observed. The morphology of bacteriophage SAP23 was observed by transmission electron microscope after phosphotungstic acid negative staining. The whole genome of bacteriophage SAP23 was sequenced with NovaSeq PE15 platform after its DNA was prepared by sodium dodecyl sulfonate/protease cleavage scheme, and genomic analysis including sequence assembly, annotation, and phylogenetic tree were completed. The bacteriophage SAP23 solution was co-incubated with the host bacterial solution for 4 h at the multiplicity of infection (MOI) of 10.000 0, 1.000 0, 0.100 0, 0.010 0, 0.001 0, and 0.000 1, respectively, and then the bacteriophage titer was measured by the drip plate method to select the optimal MOI, with here and the following sample numbers of 3. The bacteriophage SAP23 solution was co-incubated with the host bacterial solution at the optimal MOI for 5, 10, and 15 min, respectively, and the bacteriophage titer was measured by the same method as mentioned above to select the optimal adsorption time. After the bacteriophage SAP23 solution was co-incubated with the host bacterial solution at the optimal MOI for the optimal adsorption time, the bacteriophage titers were measured by the same method as mentioned above at 0 (immediately), 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, and 120 min after culture, respectively, and a one-step growth curve was drawn. The bacteriophage SAP23 solution was incubated at 4, 37, 50, 60, 70, and 80 ℃ and pH 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 for 1 h, respectively, to determine its stability. A total of 41 MRSA strains stored in the Department of Microbiology of Army Medical University (the Third Military Medical University) were used to determine the host spectrum of bacteriophage SAP23. Results: The bacteriophage SAP23 could form a transparent plaque on the host bacteria double-layer agar plate. The bacteriophage SAP23 has a polyhedral head with (88±4) nm in diameter and a tail with (279±21) nm in length and (22.6±2.6) nm in width. The bacteriophage SAP23 has a linear, double-stranded DNA with a full length of 151 618 bp and 11 681 bp long terminal repeats sequence in the sequence ends. There were 220 open reading frames predicted and the bacteriophage could encode 4 transfer RNAs, while no resistance genes or virulence factors were found. The annotation function of bacteriophage SAP23 genes could be divided into 5 groups. The GenBank accession number was MZ427930. According to the genomic collinearity analysis, there were 5 local collinear blocks in the whole genome between the bacteriophage SAP23 and the chosen 6 Staphylococcus bacteriophages, while within or outside the local collinear region, there were still some differences. The bacteriophage SAP23 belonged to the Herelleviridae family, Twortvirinae subfamily, and Kayvirus genus. The optimal MOI of bacteriophage SAP23 was 0.010 0, and the optimal adsorption time was 10 min. The bacteriophage SAP23 had a latent period of 20 min, and a growth phase of 80 min. The bacteriophage SAP23 was able to remain stable at the temperature between 4 and 37 ℃ and at the pH values between 4 and 9. The bacteriophage SAP23 could lyse 3 of the 41 tested MRSA strains. Conclusions: The bacteriophage SAP23 is a member of the Herelleviridae family, Twortvirinae subfamily, and Kayvirus genus. The bacteriophage SAP23 has a good tolerance for temperature and acid-base and a short latent period, and can lyse MRSA effectively. The bacteriophage SAP23 is a new type of potent narrow-spectrum bacteriophage without virulence factors and resistance genes.

Population aging is occurring rapidly worldwide, challenging the global economy and healthcare services. Brain aging is a significant contributor to various age-related neurological and neuropsychological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Several extrinsic factors, such as exposure to ionizing radiation, can accelerate senescence. Multiple human and animal studies have reported that exposure to ionizing radiation can have varied effects on organ aging and lead to the prolongation or shortening of life span depending on the radiation dose or dose rate. This paper reviews the effects of radiation on the aging of different types of brain cells, including neurons, microglia, astrocytes, and cerebral endothelial cells. Further, the relevant molecular mechanisms are discussed. Overall, this review highlights how radiation-induced senescence in different cell types may lead to brain aging, which could result in the development of various neurological and neuropsychological disorders. Therefore, treatment targeting radiation-induced oxidative stress and neuroinflammation may prevent radiation-induced brain aging and the neurological and neuropsychological disorders it may cause.

BACKGROUND: The current study examines the prevalence of depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, their occurrence, and key socio-demographic and clinical correlates among people living with schizophrenia. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 390 schizophrenia individuals. Depressive and anxiety symptoms, patient symptoms, functioning, and disability were assessed using standard assessment tools. RESULTS: People living with schizophrenia had a prevalence of 40.51% for depressive symptoms, 29.74% for anxiety symptoms, and 26.41% for their co-occurrence. More symptoms (odds ratio [OR]: 1.04-1.06, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01-1.10) and higher disability (OR: 1.06, 95% CI: 1.03-1.09) were associated with increased risk of depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and their co-occurrence. In addition, having middle school or high school education (OR: 2.48-2.61, 95% CI: 1.15-5.53), and being unemployed (OR: 4.98-9.08, 95% CI: 1.09-69.87) were associated with increased risk for anxiety symptoms and its co-occurrence with depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: Depressive and anxiety symptoms are relatively common. Interventions should carefully assess these symptoms to distinguish them from schizophrenia to target them in the treatment.

The incidence of gastrointestinal cancers has increased significantly over the past decade and gastrointestinal malignancies now rank among the leading causes of mortality globally. Although newer therapeutic strategies such as targeted therapies have greatly improved patient outcomes, their clinical success is limited by drug resistance, treatment failure and recurrence of metastatic disease. Therefore, there is an urgent need for further research identifying accurate and reliable biomarkers for precise treatment strategies. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) exhibit a covalently closed structure, high stability and biological conservation, and their expression is associated with the occurrence and development of gastrointestinal tumors. Moreover, circRNAs may significantly influence drug resistance of gastrointestinal cancers. In this article, we review the role of circRNAs in the occurrence and development of gastrointestinal cancer, their association with drug resistance, and potential application for early diagnosis, treatment and prognosis in gastrointestinal malignancies. Furthermore, we summarize characteristics of circRNA, including mechanism of formation and biological effects via mRNA sponging, chromatin replication, gene regulation, translational modification, signal transduction, and damage repair. Finally, we discuss whether circRNA-related noninvasive testing may be clinically provided in the future. This review provides new insights for the future development of diagnostics and therapeutics based on circRNAs in gastrointestinal tumors.

Objective:To explore the mechanism of Xiaojinwan in treating breast cancer bone metastases through cell experiments and bioinformatic analysis. Method:The inhibitory effect of Xiaojinwan on MCF-7 cell viability was detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. The key components and targets responsible for Xiaojinwan in inhibiting breast cancer bone metastases were predicted by network pharmacology and molecular docking. The active components and targets of Xiaojinwan were retrieved from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCSMP) and SwissTarget Prediction, and the breast cancer bone metastases-related targets from GeneCards and DisGeNET. The results were imported into STRING for constructing a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, followed by Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis using DAVID. A network of the active components of Xiaojinwan-breast cancer bone metastases-related targets-pathways was constructed using Cytoscape 3.7.2. AutoDock 4 was employed for molecular docking. The protein expression levels of matrix metallopmteinase-9 (MMP-9), hypoxia-inducible factor 1<italic>α </italic>(HIF1A), and androgen receptor (AR) were assayed by Western blot. Result:Xiaojinwan inhibited the viability of MCF-7 cells and acted on breast cancer bone metastases through such processes as redox and protein autophosphorylation. KEGG enrichment analysis showed that HIF-1, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) pathways were involved. As verified by molecular docking, the active components such as eucalyptin stably bound to AR and MMP-9. Western blot indicated that Xiaojinwan dose-dependently inhibited the expression of MMP-9 and HIF1A proteins in MCF-7 cells. Conclusion:Xiaojinwan acts on AR and MMP-9 through HIF, VEGF and other related signaling pathways, thereby improving hypoxia in tumor microenvironment, inhibiting angiogenesis, and reducing cell invasion and viability.

Mytilopsis sallei, an invasive alien species, has strong reproductive ability and high adaptability. It can severely endanger biodiversity of intertidal ecosystem after invasion. The intertidal zones and oyster breeding areas in some coastal areas of Guangdong Province have been severely invaded by M. sallei. To examine the potential habitat of M. sallei in China, we established a potential habitat prediction model of M. sallei using Maxent and ArcGIS method for China and global scales. The model was verified by the method of receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis and field investigation. The results showed that M. sallei could distribute with high probabili-ty in the area between North and South America, South India in Asia, Sri Lanka, the south coast of the Yangtze River in China, and in Van Dimen Bay of the southern hemisphere. In China, M. sallei mainly distributed in coastal provinces south of Shanghai. The main environmental factors affecting the suitable distribution areas for M. sallei were water vapor pressure, temperature, and solar radiation. After ROC detection, the AUC values of both the training and testing sets were 0.996, indicating that the prediction reached an excellent level. Our results provide theoretical basis for the risk assessment and management of M. sallei, and complement the potential habitat prediction of invasive species in China.

BACKGROUND: Conflicting evidence exists on whether parent or spouse caregivers experience better outcomes when caring for family members with schizophrenia. The current study aims to examine relative caregiving experiences and impacts of spouse and parent caregivers for people living with schizophrenia (PLS) in China. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a sample of 264 community-dwelling primary family caregivers of PLS. Face-to-face interviews were conducted to collect information on family caregiving activities; negative caregiving impacts including objective and subjective burden, and caregiver psychological distress such as depression and anxiety; positive caregiving impacts including caregiving rewarding feelings, and family functioning for spouse and parent caregivers. RESULTS: Both types of caregivers report engaging in similar caregiving activities and report comparable levels of objective burden. However, parent caregivers report significantly higher subjective burden than spouse caregivers (b = 7.94, 95%CI:2.08, 13.80, P < 0.01), which is also reflected in significantly higher depression (b = 3.88, 95%CI:1.35, 6.41, P < 0.01) and anxiety (b = 2.53, 95%CI: 0.22, 4.84, P < 0.05), and lower family functioning (b = - 1.71, 95%CI: - 2.73, - 0.49, P < 0.01). Despite these differences, both groups of caregivers report comparable rewarding feelings about caregiving. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings have implications for family caregivers globally, but especially for countries that adhere to Confucian cultural values and provide guidance for future family intervention programs. Such programs may do well to incorporate cultural values and beliefs in understanding caregiving and kinship family dynamics so as to support family caregivers, and in particular, the specific vulnerabilities of parent caregivers.

PURPOSE: The Family Burden Interview Schedule (FBIS-24) and the Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview (ZBI-22) are among the most widely used measures for assessing caregiving burden, but their psychometric performances have not been compared in the same study of caregivers of people living with schizophrenia (PLS). This is important because the measures assess overlapping constructs- the FBIS-24 assesses objective burden (e.g., completion of manual tasks) and the ZBI-22 assesses subjective burden (e.g., perceived distress, stigma). This study seeks to fill this gap by comparing the reliability and validity of the FBIS-24 and the ZBI-22 in a Chinese community sample of caregivers of PLS. METHODS: A Cross-sectional stud was conducted in a community-based mental health service program in Central South part of China. A total of 327 primary family caregivers of PLS completed face-to-face interviews of the FBIS-24, the ZBI-22, the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), and the Family Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection and Resolve Index scale (APGAR), and PLS were assessed using the Global Assessment of Function scale (GAF). RESULTS: Our findings show that both the FBIS-24 and ZBI-22 have comparable psychometric performance in terms of the internal consistency, convergent validity and known group's validity. CONCLUSION: Both the FBIS-24 and the ZBI-22 are psychometrically sound measures of caregiving burden but the choice of which measure to use will depend on the research question.

Objective: To explore the effect of individualized nutritional therapy on nutritional status of patients with nutritional risk in the perioperative period of the digestive system operation. Methods: This study was a prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trial. Patients undergoing elective digestive surgery were screened for nutritional risk. And 231 patients who had nutritional risk and signed informed consent were randomized into study group (n=115) and control group (n = 116). Individualized and non-individualized nutritional treatments were given for 15 d (5 d before surgery and 9 d after surgery) in two groups. The baseline data were collected. At admission, and on day 5, 9 and 15 after nutrition treatment, venous blood samples were collected, and relevant indicators, such as the body mass index (BMI), serum total protein, albumin, prealbumin, blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, lymphocyte count and white blood cell count, were measured. Results: At the end of the trial, 217 patients were collected from the study group (n=112) and control group (n=105). Fourteen patients (6.1%) withdrew from the study. In the study group, the levels of serum total protein, albumin and prealbumin were frst increased, then decreased, and then increased again (P0.05). Serum total protein and albumin levels were significantly higher in the study group than those in the control group (P0.05). The duration of nutrition treatment was not related to nutritional or immune indexes (P>0.05). Conclusion: Individualized nutritional therapy can improve the nutritional status of patients with nutritional risks in the perioperative period of the digestive system operation.

Objective:To explore the feasibility of establishing a regional network management system to prevent and control the disability in high-risk infants. Methods:From July, 2015 to June, 2016, 1252 type B high-risk infants who born alive and registered in Lianyungang were divided into control group and experimental group by receiving network management system or not. The network high-risk infants management system was used to monitor the growth, diagnosis and early intervention of high-risk infants in the experimental group, while the control group was managed in the conventional way. A comprehensive physical examination and systematic assessment of 940 high-risk infants finally were conducted after two years. Their parents' compliance, developmental state, degree of dysplasia and function of dysplastic child were compared. Results:The compliance of parents was higher in the experimental group than in the control group (χ2 = 44.161,P < 0.001), as well as the outcome when the infants were two years old (χ2 = 204.340,P < 0.001). The younger they were found deviated and intervened, the better the outcome was (χ2 = 42.038,P < 0.001), and the less degree of dysplasia when they were two years old (χ2 = 10.508,P < 0.01). The deviation/abnormality condition was less in the experimental group than in the control group (χ2 = 17.446,P < 0.01). The development of functional area was better in the experimental group than in the control group (|t| > 2.206,P < 0.05), expect body structure (P > 0.05), in the infants with developmental deviation/abnormality. Conclusion:The establishment of network management system for high-risk infants can significantly improve the management compliance of parents and outcome of development of high-risk infants, to prevent disability.
