RESUMEN

Automated delivery of therapy in virtual reality (VR) has the potential to be used for smoking cessation. Most obviously, it could be used to practise and establish alternative reactions to smoking cues. The first step in treatment development is to show that VR environments can trigger sufficient cravings in smokers. We evaluated a new VR public house outdoor scenario with 100 individuals who smoked daily. Participants were randomly assigned to the VR scenario with smoking cues or a neutral experience in VR. The VR experiences were presented in a standalone VR headset. Before and after VR, we collected self-reported craving scores for cigarettes and alcohol using the Tobacco Craving Questionnaire (TCQ) and visual analogue scales (VAS). Physiological data were also collected. Compared to the neutral condition, exposure to the smoking cues led to a large increase in craving for a cigarette (TCQ ß = 11.44, p < 0.0001, Cohen's d = 1.10) and also a moderate increase in craving for alcohol ( ß = 0.7 , p = 0.017 , d = 0.50 ) . There were no significant physiological differences between the two conditions. These results provide good evidence that VR experiences can elicit strong craving for cigarettes. The programming can be part of developing a new VR cognitive therapy to help people reduce smoking.

Children with learning difficulties are commonly assumed to have underlying cognitive deficits by health and educational professionals. However, not all children referred for psycho-educational assessment will be found to have deficits when their abilities are measured by performance on cognitive tasks. The primary aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of this inconsistent cognitive profile (ICP) in a transdiagnostic sample of children referred by health and education service providers for problems related to attention, learning and memory (N = 715). A second aim was to explore whether elevated mental health problems were associated with ICPs. Findings suggest that approximately half of this sample could be characterised as having an ICP. Cognitive difficulties, whether identified by parent ratings or task performance, were associated with elevated internalising and externalising difficulties. Crucially, a larger discrepancy between a parent's actual ratings of a child's cognitive difficulties and the ratings that would be predicted based on the child's performance on cognitive tasks was associated greater internalising and externalising difficulties for measures of working memory, and greater externalising difficulties for measures of attention. These findings suggest that subjective cognitive difficulties occurring in the absence of any task-based performance deficits may be a functional problem arising from mental health problems.

The intrinsic stability issues of the perovskite materials threaten the efficiency and stability of the devices, and stability has become the main obstacle to industrial applications. Herein, the efficient and facile passivation strategy by 2-amino-5-iodobenzoic acid (AIBA) is proposed. The impact of AIBA on the properties of the perovskite films and device performance is systemically studied. The results show that the trap states are eliminated without affecting the crystal properties of the perovskite grains, leading to the enhanced performance and stability of the perovskite solar cells (PSCs). A high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 20.23% and lower hysteresis index (HI) of 1.49‰ are achieved, which represent one of the most excellent PCE and HI values for the inverted PSCs based on MAPbI3/[6,6]-Phenyl-C61-Butyric Acid Methyl Ester (PCBM) planar heterojunction structure. Moreover, the UV stability of the perovskite films and the thermal and moisture stability of the devices are also enhanced by the AIBA passivation. The PCE of the device with AIBA can maintain about 83.41% for 600 h (40 RH %) and 64.06% for 100 h (55-70 RH %) of its initial PCE value without any encapsulation, while the control device can maintain only about 72.91 and 45.59% of its initial PCE. Density functional theory calculations are performed to study the origins of enhanced performance. Interestingly, the results show that the surface states induced by AIBA can facilitate the photoexcited charge transfer dynamics and reduce the electron-hole recombination loss. The passivation method developed in this work provides an efficient way to enhance the stability and performance of inverted PSCs.
