RESUMEN

Constipation is a common gastrointestinal disorder without effective treatment approach. Buzhongyiqi decoction (BZYQD) is a classical formula that has been commonly used for gastrointestinal disorders for nearly 1,000 years. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective effect of BZYQD against loperamide-induced constipation and its potential mechanism. Rats with loperamide-induced constipation were orally administered BZYQD. BZYQD treatment obviously increased the small intestinal transit rate and alleviated colon tissue pathological damage. Subsequently, serum metabolomics study was performed to identify the metabolites affected by BZYQD. Metabolomics identified that the levels of 17 serum metabolites, including prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), arachidonic acid (AA), and inositol, were significantly changed in BZYQD-treated group compared with those in the loperamide-induced group. Pathway analysis revealed that those metabolites were mainly associated with arachidonic acid metabolism, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, ascorbate and aldarate metabolism, inositol phosphate metabolism. Additionally, BZYQD treatment down-regulated the cyclooxygenase-2 expression and decrease production of the proinflammatory mediator PGE2. Further study revealed that BZYQD administration decreased serum levels of the inflammatory factors IL-1ß and TNF-α, inhibited phosphorylation of the nuclear transcription factor NF-κB, and down-regulated expression of the inflammatory factors IL-1ß and IL-6 in the constipated rat colon. Moreover, BZYQD treatment also increased serum levels of inositol, motilin and gastrin, and promoted gastrointestinal motility. In conclusion, the present study suggested that BZYQD exerted a protective effect against loperamide-induced constipation, which may be associated with its role in regulation of multiple metabolic pathways.

RESUMEN

Synthesis of high-performance and cost-effective electrocatalysts towards hydrazine electrooxidation is vital to develop the direct hydrazine fuel cell (DHFC) as a viable energy conversion technology. Herein, we report a combined experimental and theoretical study of nickel phosphides (NixP) as promising catalysts for hydrazine electrooxidation. NixP nanowire array supported on a Ni foam (NF) was synthesized by a one-step phosphorization method using hypophosphite as a P-source. Ni12P5 and Ni2P phases are observed as the products of the direct phosphorization of commercial NF under the applied conditions with Ni2P nanoparticles exclusively distributing on the surface of Ni12P5. The NixP/NF catalyst exhibits a synergetic capabilities of exceptionally high activity, excellent durability and nearly 100% selectivity towards the complete electrooxidation of hydrazine in alkaline condition, which is among the best performance reported on hydrazine electrooxidation catalysts. First-principles calculations have been conducted to gain insight into the catalytic mechanism of Ni phosphides towards hydrazine electrooxidation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and adverse reaction of chemotherapy in CHOP protocol (CT-CHOP) alone or compared with Shenqi Fuzheng injection (SFI) for treatment of moderate malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. METHODS: Sixty patients were divided into 2 groups, the treated group (n = 32) treated with CT-CHOP plus SFI for 5.7 cycles on average and the control group (n = 28) treated with CT-CHOP alone for 5.6 cycles on average. RESULTS: In the treated group, 18 patients were completely remitted (CR), 4 were partially remitted (PR), 7 were unchanged (NC), 3 were progressively deteriorated (PD), with the total remission rate of 68.8%, while in the control group, 13 were CR, 4 PR, 7 NC and 4 PD, the total remission rate being 60.7%. After treatment, the levels of CD3, CD4 and CD4/CD8 increased and CD8 decreased significantly in the treated group (P <0.05). Patients' quality of life (QOL) in the treated group was improved more obviously than that in the control group (P < 0.01), and the incidence rate of adverse reaction as leucopenia, neurotoxicity, and cardiac toxicity were lower in the treated group than those in the control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Shenqi Fuzheng injection combined with CT-CHOP on malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphoma can reduce the adverse reaction of chemotherapy, ameliorate the compliance of patients to chemotherapy, and improve the immune function and QOL of patients.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To understand the current status and relative factors of reproductive health (RH) on unmarried floating population. METHODS: Both quantitative and qualitative surveys were employed. Quantitative survey would include questionnaire admimistration, physic examination and laboratory test while qualitative study including focus/nominal group discussion, individual and resource persons interview. All of the investigative targets were selected under informed consent. RESULTS: Among 1333 investigated unmarried floating population, the mean score on knowledge of RH was 12.97 +/- 12.20 (the full score was 100). Among studied persons, 10.20% of them were in favor of unmarried sexual activity while 50.64% of them did not care about it and 26.90% of them had ever experienced sexual activity. Among females who experienced sexual activity, 25.45% of them had induced abortion. It was found, through multivariate logistic analysis, that sexual activity at younger age, less education, agreed on having sexual activity under partner's request, sexual activity in half of a year, and pregnancy were the major risk factors on RH of unmarried floating population. CONCLUSION: The problem on the current status of RH among unmarried floating population needs to be addressed as they were lack of knowledge on RH and having more risk factors on RH.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Chemotherapy combined with other therapeutic modalities is the main option for advanced and metastatic soft tissue sarcoma(STS). So far there is no standard regimen for STS yet. Adrimycin, ifosfamide, and dacarbazine are the most effective agents at present. The purpose of this clinical trial was to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of MAID regimen (mesna/ifosfamide + Adriamycin + dacarbazine) in the treatment of advanced soft tissue sarcoma. METHODS: Twenty-two patients with advanced STS were treated by MAID(Adriamycin 60 mg/m2, ifosfamide 6,000 mg/m2, and dacarbazine 1,000 mg/m2). These drugs were administered as continuous intravenous infusion for 72 hours while mesna was infused continuously for 96 hours. RESULTS: Partial response rate was 36.4% without complete remission. The duration of response ranged from 2-10 months with median of 4.6 months. Main toxicities were myelosuppression, gastrointestinal toxicity and alopecia. Percentage of leucopenia, nausea/vomiting, and alopecia in WHO grade III and IV were 63.6%, 27.3%, and 50%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The response rate of MAID for advanced STS was not satisfactory with evident myelosuppression. Further study on new anti-cancer agents and regimen are needed.
