RESUMEN

As lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) become more widespread, the number of spent LIBs gradually increases. Until now, recycling of spent LIBs has mainly concentrated on high-value cathodes, but the anode graphite has not yet attracted wide attention. In this work, spent graphite from LIBs was oxidized to graphene oxide and then thermally reduced to reduced graphene oxide (RGO), which serves as the cathode of aqueous Zn dual-ion batteries (ZDIBs). The thermal reduction process enables RGO with a large layer spacing and porous structure, which increase the anion insertion sites and transfer kinetics. As a result, the corresponding battery exhibits a high specific capacity of 96.82 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1, superior rate capability, and a high capacity retention rate of 80% after 2000 cycles. Moreover, RGO gradually transforms into a long-range disordered structure during the cycling process, which provides more transport routes and active sites for anion insertion and thus leads to the increase of capacity. This work combines the recycling of spent graphite with aqueous ZDIBs, realizing the high-value use of spent graphite.

RESUMEN

The Li-rich Mn-based cathode materials (LMRs) deliver excellent energy density and exhibit low cost, which are considered as the most promising cathode materials for the next generation lithium-ion batteries. However, the irreversible redox reaction of the oxygen atoms directly leads to release oxygen and intensifies phase transformation. Besides, the local stress and strain will be generated due to the unit-cell volume difference between R-3m and C2/m phases, which continuously aggravates the collapse of secondary particles. Herein, the strong Nb4d-O2p-Li2s configurations at the Li1 sites of the TM-layer in the C2/m phase and secondary particles with the radial arrangement of refined primary particles are designed to inhibit oxygen release and relieve lattice stress by Nb2O5 treatment. Meanwhile, the preferential growth of the active {010} planes is presented to obtain an excellent transmission rate of Li+. As a result, the designed LMR delivers remarkable electrochemical properties with high discharge capacity and initial coulomb efficiency of 276 mA h g-1 and 85% at 0.1 C, outstanding cycling retention rate of 81% after 300 cycles. This novel crystal structure combining oxygen coordination regulation and micro-nano scale design provides inspiration for the design of high-performance LMRs.

RESUMEN

Postoperative breast cancer recurrence is tricky due to the limited therapeutic options. Transforming growth factors-ß (TGF-ß) is vital in promoting postoperative tumor recurrence. However, conventional blocking strategies fail to satisfy both bio-safety and sufficient relapse correction. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are essential for the spatiotemporal dynamics of TGF-ß at tumor-resection sites, whose unique mechanism for local TGF-ß amplification could remarkably increase the risk of relapse after surgery. Herein, the principle of NETs formation is ingeniously utilized to construct a surgical residual cavity hydrogel that mimics NETs formation. The hydrogel is prepared based on the electrostatic interaction between histidine (His) and sodium alginate (Alg). Then, arginine deiminase 4 (PAD4) protein is released during NETs formation. Simultaneously, the electrical property of His in hydrogel changes automatically, which further lead to promising localized release of anti-TGF-ß. The hydrogel system can realize specific and selective drug release at targeted NETs site over a prolonged period while exhibiting excellent biocompatibility. Superior breast cancer recurrence inhibition is achieved by suppressing TGF-ß and related indicators, impeding epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) progression, and rectifying the locally exacerbated immunosuppressive environment within NETs. The novel NETs local microenvironment drug release functional hydrogel will provide inspiration for postoperative recurrence correction strategies.

RESUMEN

Sex role differentiation is a widespread phenomenon. Sex pheromones are often associated with sex roles and convey sex-specific information. In Lepidoptera, females release sex pheromones to attract males, which evolve sophisticated olfactory structures to relay pheromone signals. However, in some primitive moths, sex role differentiation becomes diverged. Here, we introduce the chromosome-level genome assembly from ancestral Himalaya ghost moths, revealing a unique olfactory evolution pattern and sex role parity among Lepidoptera. These olfactory structures of the ghost moths are characterized by a dense population of trichoid sensilla, both larger male and female antennal entry parts of brains, compared to the evolutionary later Lepidoptera. Furthermore, a unique tandem of 34 odorant receptor 19 homologs in Thitarodes xiaojinensis (TxiaOr19) has been identified, which presents overlapped motifs with pheromone receptors (PRs). Interestingly, the expanded TxiaOr19 was predicted to have unconventional tuning patterns compared to canonical PRs, with nonsexual dimorphic olfactory neuropils discovered, which contributes to the observed equal sex roles in Thitarodes adults. Additionally, transposable element activity bursts have provided traceable loci landscapes where parallel diversifications occurred between TxiaOr19 and PRs, indicating that the Or19 homolog expansions were diversified to PRs during evolution and thus established the classic sex roles in higher moths. This study elucidates an olfactory prototype of intermediate sex communication from Himalaya ghost moths.

RESUMEN

Electronic components are the main components of PCBs (printed circuit boards), so the detection and classification of ECs (electronic components) is an important aspect of recycling used PCBs. However, due to the variety and quantity of ECs, traditional target detection methods for EC classification still have problems such as slow detection speed and low performance, and the accuracy of the detection needs to be improved. To overcome these limitations, this study proposes an enhanced YOLO (you only look once) network (EC-YOLOv7) for detecting EC targets. The network uses ACmix (a mixed model that enjoys the benefits of both self-attention and convolution) as a substitute for the 3 × 3 convolutional modules in the E-ELAN (Extended ELAN) architecture and implements branch links and 1 × 1 convolutional arrays between the ACmix modules to improve the speed of feature retrieval and network inference. Furthermore, the ResNet-ACmix module is engineered to prevent the leakage of function data and to minimise calculation time. Subsequently, the SPPCSPS (spatial pyramid pooling connected spatial pyramid convolution) block has been improved by replacing the serial channels with concurrent channels, which improves the fusion speed of the image features. To effectively capture spatial information and improve detection accuracy, the DyHead (the dynamic head) is utilised to enhance the model's size, mission, and sense of space, which effectively captures spatial information and improves the detection accuracy. A new bounding-box loss regression method, the WIoU-Soft-NMS method, is finally suggested to facilitate prediction regression and improve the localisation accuracy. The experimental results demonstrate that the enhanced YOLOv7 net surpasses the initial YOLOv7 model and other common EC detection methods. The proposed EC-YOLOv7 network reaches a mean accuracy (mAP@0.5) of 94.4% on the PCB dataset and exhibits higher FPS compared to the original YOLOv7 model. In conclusion, it can significantly enhance high-density EC target recognition.

RESUMEN

Vascular aging is one of the reasons for the high incidence of cardiovascular diseases nowadays, as vascular cells age due to various internal and external factors. Among them, high fat is an important inducer. Canagliflozin (CAN) is one of the SGLT2 inhibitors that has been shown to have cardiovascular protective effects in addition to lowering blood sugar, but the specific mechanism is not clear. This study first established a vascular aging model using palmitic acid (PA), then tested the effect of CAN on PA-induced vascular aging, and finally examined the mechanism of CAN's anti-vascular aging via ROS/ERK and ferroptosis pathways. We found that CAN alleviates PA-induced vascular cell aging by inhibiting the activation of ROS/ERK and ferroptosis signaling pathways. This study reveals new mechanisms of lipid-induced vascular aging and CAN inhibition of vascular aging from the perspectives of ROS/ERK and ferroptosis pathways, which is expected to provide new ideas for the development of related drugs in the future.

RESUMEN

Background: The LuoBiTong (LBT) capsule, a novel traditional Chinese medicine formulation, is currently in Phase III clinical trials. Preliminary preclinical and Phase II clinical studies suggest its efficacy and safety in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the underlying mechanisms of its action remain to be elucidated. This research aims to explore the effects and mechanisms of LBT in conjunction with a maintenance dose of methotrexate (M-MTX) on RA. Methods: A Collagen-Induced Arthritis (CIA) mouse model was used to evaluate the anti-RA effects of LBT combined with M-MTX. Assessments included foot swelling, arthritis scoring, serum inflammatory factor analysis, and histopathological examination of the foot. These effects were compared with those of high-dose MTX (H-MTX). Network pharmacology was employed to construct a compound-target network for RA, based on drug composition, to predict its potential mechanism of action. Flow cytometry, Western Blot, and immunohistochemical analyses in animal models identified multiple inflammatory pathways targeted by LBT to augment the anti-RA effects of MTX. Results: The study revealed that LBT combined with M-MTX significantly alleviated CIA-induced arthritis without adverse effects. The combination of LBT and M-MTX showed similar or superior efficacy in regulating macrophage polarization, NF-κB, MAPK signaling pathways, and in the suppression of TH-17 expression in proinflammatory cells. These findings suggest that LBT may exert a multi-pathway therapeutic effect in RA treatment. The predicted pharmacological targets and mechanisms align well with this hypothesis. Conclusion: LBT, when combined with MTX, enhances the anti-RA effect by targeting multiple inflammatory pathways, demonstrating significant therapeutic potential.

RATIONALE: Thyroglossal duct carcinoma, a rare clinical condition characterized by ectopic thyroid adenocarcinoma within thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDCs), typically confirmed through intraoperative rapid pathology, this condition generally has a favorable prognosis. Nevertheless, comprehensive treatment guidelines across all disease stages are lacking, the purpose of this study is to report 1 case of the disease and propose the treatment plan for each stage of the disease. PATIENT CONCERNS: A patient presented with thyroid swelling, classified as C-TIRADS 4A following a physical examination. Preoperative thyroid puncture identified papillary thyroid carcinoma, and genetic testing revealed a BRAF gene exon 15-point mutation. Ancillary tests showed a slightly decreased thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level (0.172) with no other significant abnormalities. DIAGNOSES: Preoperative fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) confirmed right-side thyroid cancer. Intraoperative exploration uncovered a TGDC and intraoperative rapid pathology confirmed thyroglossal duct carcinoma. INTERVENTIONS: A Sistrunk operation and ipsilateral thyroidectomy were performed. OUTCOMES: Postoperative recovery was satisfactory. LESSONS: Thyroglossal duct carcinoma is a rare disease affecting the neck. Due to limited clinical cases and the favorable prognosis associated with this condition, there is currently no established set of diagnostic and treatment guidelines. According to tumor size, lymph node metastasis, thyroid status and other factors, the corresponding treatment methods were established for each stage of thyroglossal duct cancer, which laid the foundation for the subsequent treatment development of this disease.

RESUMEN

Background: Disaster-related psychiatric disorders (DRPD) present a significant challenge to mental health professionals, yet there is a notable lack of emphasis on the preparedness of psychiatrists in managing these conditions within post-graduate medical education. Methods: This study utilized a questionnaire to collect data from psychiatrists, focusing on their prior involvement in managing DRPD, perceived competence, medication preferences, and factors influencing their experiences in handling such disorders. Analysis included distribution and ranking of variables, alongside cross-analysis examining associations between demographic factors (age, gender, hospital levels, years of practice, board certification) and treatment experiences, as well as readiness for in-hospital or outside-hospital mobilization in DRPD management. Results: One hundred and three Taiwanese psychiatrists participated in the study, with the majority reporting involvement in managing DRPD (71.8%), particularly in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. Antidepressants, specifically serotonin selective reuptake inhibitors, were commonly preferred for DRPD treatment, including PTSD and depression. Psychiatrists aged over 40, with more than 10 years of practice, and hold the board-certified status, showed greater experiences for outside- or inside- the hospital mobilization in DRPD management. Conclusion: Findings suggest that within post-graduate medical education, Taiwanese psychiatrists demonstrate significant experience, willingness, and capacity to effectively manage DRPD. However, there is a need to integrate comprehensive training on disaster psychiatry into post-graduate psychiatric education programs to further enhance preparedness and optimize outcomes in managing these challenging conditions.

RESUMEN

Kiwi wine (KW) is tipically made by fermenting juice from peeled kiwifruit, resulting in the disposal of peel and pomace as by-products. However, the peel contains various beneficial compounds, like phenols and flavonoids. Since the peel is edible and rich in these compounds, incorporating it into the fermentation process of KW presents a potential solution to minimize by-product waste. This study compared the aroma and taste profiles of KW from peeled (PKW) and unpeeled (UKW) kiwifruits by combining intelligent sensory technology, GC-MS, and 1H-NMR. Focusing on aroma profiles, 75 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were identified in KW fermented with peel, and 73 VOCs in KW without peel, with 62 VOCs common to both. Among these compounds, rose oxide, D-citronellol, and bornylene were more abundant in UKW, while hexyl acetate, isoamyl acetate, and 2,4,5-trichlorobenzene were significantly higher in PKW. For taste profiles, E-tongue analysis revealed differences in the taste profiles of KW from the two sources. A total of 74 molecules were characterized using 1H-NMR. UKW exhibited significantly higher levels of tartrate, galactarate, N-acetylserotonin, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxymandelate, fumarate, and N-acetylglycine, along with a significantly lower level of oxypurinol compared to PKW. This study seeks to develop the theoretical understanding of the fermentation of kiwifruit with peel in sight of the utilization of the whole fruit for KW production, to increase the economic value of kiwifruit production.

RESUMEN

Cancer is a heavy human burden worldwide, with high morbidity and mortality. Identification of novel cancer diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers is important for developing cancer treatment strategies and reducing mortality. Transcription factors, including SRY associated high mobility group box (SOX) proteins, are thought to be involved in the regulation of specific biological processes. There is growing evidence that SOX transcription factors play an important role in cancer progression, including tumorigenesis, changes in the tumor microenvironment, and metastasis. SOX5 is a member of SOX Group D of Sox family. SOX5 is expressed in various tissues of human body and participates in various physiological and pathological processes and various cellular processes. However, the abnormal expression of SOX5 is associated with cancer of various systems, and the abnormal expression of SOX5 acts as a tumor promoter to promote cancer cell viability, proliferation, invasion, migration and EMT through multiple mechanisms. In addition, the expression pattern of SOX5 is closely related to cancer type, stage and adverse clinical outcome. Therefore, SOX5 is considered as a potential biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. In this review, the expression of SOX5 in various human cancers, the mechanism of action and potential clinical significance of SOX5 in tumor, and the therapeutic significance of Sox5 targeting in cancer were reviewed. In order to provide a new theoretical basis for cancer clinical molecular diagnosis, molecular targeted therapy and scientific research.

RESUMEN

In recent years, dibenzyl disulfide (DBDS) in transformer oils has caused many transformer failures around the world, and its removal has attracted more attention. In this work, nine imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) were applied as effective, green desulfurization extractants for DBDS-containing transformer oil for the first time. The results show that the desulfurization ability of the ILs for DBDS followed the order of [BMIM]FeCl4 > [BMIM]N(CN)2 > [BMIM]SCN > [BMIM](C4H9O)2PO2 > [BMIM]MeSO4 > [BMIM]NTf2 > [BMIM]OTf > [BMIM]PF6 > [BMIM]BF4. Especially, [BMIM]FeCl4 ionic liquid had excellent removal efficiency for DBDS, with its S partition coefficient KN (S) being up to 2642, which was much higher than the other eight imidazolium-based ILs. Moreover, the extractive performance of [BMIM]FeCl4 increased with an increasing molar ratio of FeCl3 to [BMIM]Cl, which was attributed to its Lewis acidity and fluidity. [BMIM]FeCl4 ionic liquid could also avail in the desulfurization of diphenyl sulfide (DPS) from model oils. The experimental results demonstrate that π-π action, π-complexation, and Lewis acid-base interaction played important roles in the desulfurization process. Finally, the ([BMIM]FeCl4) ionic liquid could be recycled five times without a significant decrease in extractive ability.

RESUMEN

Herbivorous insects utilize intricate olfactory mechanisms to locate food plants. The chemical communication of insect-plant in primitive lineage offers insights into evolutionary milestones of divergent olfactory modalities. Here, we focus on a system endemic to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau to unravel the chemical and molecular basis of food preference in ancestral Lepidoptera. We conducted volatile profiling, neural electrophysiology, and chemotaxis assays with a panel of host plant organs to identify attractants for Himalaya ghost moth Thitarodes xiaojinensis larvae, the primitive host of medicinal Ophiocordyceps sinensis fungus. Using a DREAM approach based on odorant induced transcriptomes and subsequent deorphanization tests, we elucidated the odorant receptors responsible for coding bioactive volatiles. Contrary to allocation signals in most plant-feeding insects, T. xiaojinensis larvae utilize tricosane from the bulbil as the main attractant for locating native host plant. We deorphanized a TxiaOR17b, an indispensable odorant receptor resulting from tandem duplication of OR17, for transducing olfactory signals in response to tricosane. The discovery of this ligand-receptor pair suggests a survival strategy based on food location via olfaction in ancestral Lepidoptera, which synchronizes both plant asexual reproduction and peak hatch periods of insect larvae.

RESUMEN

Phthorimaea operculella is a major potato pest of global importance, early warning and detection of which are of significance. In this study, we analyzed the climate niche conservation of P. operculella during its invasion by comparing the overall climate niche from three dimensions, including the differences between native range (South America) and entire invaded region (excluding South America), the differences bwtween native range (South America) and five invaded continents (North America, Oceania, Asia, Africa, and Europe), as well as the differences between native region (South America) and an invaded region (China). We constructed ecological niche models for its native range (South America) and invaded region (China). The results showed that the climatic niche of the pest has expanded to varying degrees in different regions, indicating that the pest could well adapt to new environments during the invasion. Almost all areas of South America are suitable for P. operculella. In China, its suitable area is mainly concentrated in Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, Henan, Hubei, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hainan, northern Guangxi, southern Hunan, Anhui, Guangdong, Jiangsu, southern Shanxi, and southern Shaanxi. With increasing greenhouse gas emissions and global temperature, its suitable area will decrease at low latitude and increase gradually at high latitude. Specifically, the northern boundary will extend to Liaoning, Jilin, and the southeastern region of Inner Mongolia, while the western boundary extends to Sichuan and the southeast Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The suitable area in the southeast Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, Hainan Island, and the south of Yangtze River, will gradually decrease. The total suitable habitat area for P. operculella in China is projected to increase under future climate condition. From 2081 to 2100, under the three greenhouse gas emissions scenarios of ssp126, ssp370, and ssp585, the suitable area is expected to increase by 27.78, 165.54, and 140.41 hm2, respectively. Therefore, it is crucial to strengtehen vigilance and implement strict measures to prevent the further expansion of P. operculella.

RESUMEN

In insects, vision is crucial in finding host plants, but its role in nocturnal insects is largely unknown. Vision involves responses to specific spectra of photon wavelengths and opsins plays an important role in this process. Long-wavelength sensitive opsin (LW opsin) and blue-sensitive opsin (BL opsin) are main visual opsin proteins and play important in behavior regulation. We used CRISPR/Cas9 technology to mutate the long-wavelength-sensitive and blue wavelength-sensitive genes and explored the role of vision in the nocturnal invasive pest Tuta absoluta. Light wave experiments revealed that LW2(-/-) and BL(-/-) mutants showed abnormal wavelength tropism. Both LW2 and BL mutations affected the preference of T. absoluta for the green environment. Mutations in LW2 and BL are necessary to inhibit visual attraction. The elimination of LW2 and BL affected the preference of leaf moths for green plants, and mutations in both induced a preference in moths for white plants. Behavioral changes resulting from LW2(-/-) and BL(-/-) mutants were not affected by sense of smell, further supporting the regulatory role of vision in insect behavior. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to reveal that vision, not smell, plays an important role in the host-seeking behavior of nocturnal insects at night, of which LW2 and BL opsins are key regulatory factors. These study findings will drive the development of the "vision-ecology" theory.

RESUMEN

Composite solid electrolytes combining the advantages of inorganic and polymer electrolytes are considered as one of the promising candidates for solid-state lithium metal batteries. Compared with ceramic-in-polymer electrolyte, polymer-in-ceramic electrolyte displays excellent mechanical strength to inhibit lithium dendrite. However, polymer-in-ceramic electrolyte faces the challenges of lack of flexibility and severely blocked Li+transport. In this study, we prepared polymer-in-ceramic film utilizing ultra-high molecular weight polymers and ceramic particles to combine flexibility and mechanical strength. Meanwhile, the ionic conductivity of polymer-in-ceramic electrolytes was improved by adding excess lithium salt in polymer matrix to form polymer-in-salt structure. The obtained film shows high stiffness (10.5 MPa), acceptable ionic conductivity (0.18 mS cm-1) and high flexibility. As a result, the corresponding lithium symmetric cell stably cycles over 800 h and the corresponding LiFePO4cell provides a discharge capacity of 147.7 mAh g-1at 0.1 C without obvious capacity decay after 145 cycles.

RESUMEN

Mass spectrometry (MS) is a valuable tool for plasma proteome profiling and disease biomarker discovery. However, wide-ranging plasma protein concentrations, along with technical and biological variabilities, present significant challenges for deep and reproducible protein quantitation. Here, we evaluated the qualitative and quantitative performance of timsTOF HT and timsTOF Pro 2 mass spectrometers for analysis of neat plasma samples (unfractionated) and plasma samples processed using the Proteograph Product Suite (Proteograph) that enables robust deep proteomics sampling prior to mass spectrometry. Samples were evaluated across a wide range of peptide loading masses and liquid chromatography (LC) gradients. We observed up to a 76% increase in total plasma peptide precursors identified and a >2-fold boost in quantifiable plasma peptide precursors (CV < 20%) with timsTOF HT compared to Pro 2. Additionally, approximately 4.5 fold more plasma peptide precursors were detected by both timsTOF HT and timsTOF Pro 2 in the Proteograph analyzed plasma vs neat plasma. In an exploratory analysis of 20 late-stage lung cancer and 20 control plasma samples with the Proteograph, which were expected to exhibit distinct proteomes, an approximate 50% increase in total and statistically significant plasma peptide precursors (q < 0.05) was observed with timsTOF HT compared to Pro 2. Our data demonstrate the superior performance of timsTOF HT for identifying and quantifying differences between biologically diverse samples, allowing for improved disease biomarker discovery in large cohort studies. Moreover, researchers can leverage data sets from this study to optimize their liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) workflows for plasma protein profiling and biomarker discovery. RESUMEN

The demand for Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has significantly grown in the last decade due to their extensive use electric vehicles. To further advance the commercialization of LIBs for various applications, there is a pressing need to develop electrode materials with enhanced performance. The porous microsphere morphology LiNixMn2-xO4(LNMO) is considered to be an effective material with both high energy density and excellent rate performance. Nevertheless, LNMO synthesis technology still has problem such as long reaction time, high energy consumption and environmental pollution. Herein, LNMO microsphere was successfully synthesized with short precursors reaction time (18 s) at 40 °C without using chelating agent by microreaction technology combined solid-state lithiation. The optimized LNMO cathode shows microsphere (∼8µm) morphology stacked by nano primary particles, with abundant mesoporous and fully exposed low-energy plane. The electrochemical analysis indicates that the optimized LNMO cathode demonstrates 97.33% capacity retention even after 200 cycles at 1C. Additionally, the material shows a highly satisfactory discharge capacity of 92.3 mAh·g-1at 10C. Overall, microreaction technology is anticipated to offer a novel approach in the synthesis of LNMO cathode materials with excellent performance.

RESUMEN

Regression modeling is the workhorse of statistics and there is a vast literature on estimation of the regression function. It has been realized in recent years that in regression analysis the ultimate aim may be the estimation of a level set of the regression function, ie, the set of covariate values for which the regression function exceeds a predefined level, instead of the estimation of the regression function itself. The published work on estimation of the level set has thus far focused mainly on nonparametric regression, especially on point estimation. In this article, the construction of confidence sets for the level set of linear regression is considered. In particular, 1 - α $$ 1-\alpha $$ level upper, lower and two-sided confidence sets are constructed for the normal-error linear regression. It is shown that these confidence sets can be easily constructed from the corresponding 1 - α $$ 1-\alpha $$ level simultaneous confidence bands. It is also pointed out that the construction method is readily applicable to other parametric regression models where the mean response depends on a linear predictor through a monotonic link function, which include generalized linear models, linear mixed models and generalized linear mixed models. Therefore, the method proposed in this article is widely applicable. Simulation studies with both linear and generalized linear models are conducted to assess the method and real examples are used to illustrate the method.
