The segregation of factor B(BF)F subtypes was analyzed in conjunction with other MHC markers in 15 families with 89 offspring. Informative data for BF F subtypes were obtained from 11 families, 6 of them with known recombinant individuals for the HLA-B/DR/GLO region. The subtypes did not contribute further to the localization of the cross-overs, but followed the known segregation of conventional BF allotypes. In 2 families of one kinship, the recognition of heterozygous BF*FAFB individuals could be established following the inclusion of three generations. The rarer of the two BF F subtype alleles, BF*FA, is positively associated with the HLA haplotypes BW62, CW3, C4A*3 and A29, CWX, B44, C4A*3, B*1, DR7. BF F subtypes are regarded as a very useful additional tool for studies of MHC organization and disease association.

Retroplacental blood samples (between 3 ml and 290 ml) which had been obtained from 327 recently delivered women were tested for the presence of HLA-A, B, C, DR antibodies. The approaches taken by the examiners were the NIH microlymphocytotoxicity test according to Terasaki and the two-colour fluorescence test according to van Rood. The examiners established 66 sera with cytotoxic reactions, and 18 of these serum samples (5.5 per cent) contained good to very good antibodies of the HLA-A, B, C, and DR series (correlation coefficients being between 0.55 and 1.00). Advantages offered by this search test over conventional pregnancy screening are discussed in some detail.

The results of the application of the C3 system to 155 cases of disputed paternity are presented. In this preselected material (none of the 234 accused men could be excluded by any of the usual markers of red blood cells and serum) 23 men were excluded. Of these 23 exclusions, 17 could be examined in the HLA-system and were confirmed by this system. In 211 mother-child pairs no theoretically impossible combinations were observed.

The cyst fluid of cestodes from various animals kept in zoological gardens was examined for the presence of A-, B-, H- and P1-blood group activity. While the results in the ABH-system were negative, the cysts from 2 of 13 animals examined (1 elk and 1 reindeer) presented P1-blood group activity.

Comparable investigations of the A-hel-receptor with Anti-AHP and 6 different phytagglutinins are reported which have been tested in 305 samples of pig blood. Anti-ADb disposing of a higher specificity is recommended for determining the Hel-factor in pigs instead of Anti-AHP.
