BACKGROUND: Outbreaks of dengue can overburden hospital systems, drastically reducing capacity for other care. The 2017 dengue serotype 2 (DENV-2) outbreak in Sri Lanka coincided with vaccination in an ongoing phase 3 efficacy trial of a tetravalent dengue vaccine, TAK-003 (NCT02747927). Here, we present data on the efficacy of TAK-003 following two doses of the vaccine administered 3 months apart in participants aged 4-16 years in Sri Lanka. In addition, we have used the 2017 outbreak dynamics to model the potential impact of TAK-003 on virologically confirmed dengue (VCD) cases and hospitalizations during an outbreak situation. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Modeling was performed using an age-structured, host-vector, spatial and stochastic transmission model, assuming 65% vaccine coverage and 30 days until initiation of vaccination. Efficacy of TAK-003 against VCD and hospitalized VCD cases was based on data against DENV-2 from the first year of the phase 3 trial. Vaccine efficacy and safety findings in Sri Lanka were in line with those of the overall trial population. The efficacy estimates in Sri Lanka up to the first 12 months after the second dose of TAK-003 were 94.7% and 95.7% against VCD and hospitalized VCD cases, respectively. Modeling of the trial data over an extended geographic area showed a substantial reduction in cases and a flattening of outbreak curves from TAK-003 use. The baseline vaccination scenario (initiation at 30 days, 65% target coverage, vaccine effective at 14 days, 70% hospitalization rate, VE of 95% for VCD and 97% for hospitalized VCD, and 47% for asymptomatic) resulted in a 69.1% reduction in VCD cases and 72.7% reduction in VCD hospitalizations compared with no vaccination. An extreme high scenario (vaccination initiated at Day 15, 80% coverage rate, baseline VE) resulted in 80.3% and 82.3% reduction in VCD and VCD hospitalizations, respectively. Vaccine performance, speed of vaccination campaign initiation, and vaccine coverage were key drivers in reducing VCD cases and hospitalizations. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Overall, the study and modelling results indicate that TAK-003 has the potential of meaningful utility in dengue outbreaks in endemic areas.

Methane (CH4) from ruminant production systems produces greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. Our goal was to determine whether monoammonium glycyrrhizinate could inhibit CH4 emissions over the long term without affecting animal performance and immune indices in Karakul sheep. This study aimed to assess the effects of medium-term (60 days) addition of monoammonium glycyrrhizinate on growth performance, apparent digestibility, CH4 emissions, methanogens, fibre-degrading bacteria and blood characteristics in Karakul sheep. Twelve male Karakul sheep (40.1 ± 3.59 kg) with fistula were randomly divided into two groups (n = 6): the Control group received a basal diet + the same volume of distilled water (30 ml) and the Treatment group received a basal diet + 8.75 g/kg monoammonium glycyrrhizinate injected via fistula. The adaptation stage was 15 days, and the measurement stage was 60 days. The sampling during the measurement stage was divided into two stages, stage I (1 ∼ 30 d) and stage II (31 ∼ 60 d). The results showed that monoammonium glycyrrhizinate significantly reduced the relative abundance of Bacteroides caccae, daily CH4 emission and protozoa population, significantly increased the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae bacterium AD3010, Lachnospiraceae bacterium FE2018, Lachnospiraceae bacterium NK3A20, Lachnospiraceae bacterium NK4A179 and Lachnospiraceae bacterium V9D3004 in stage I (P < 0.05); significantly increased the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae bacterium AD3010, but significantly decreased the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae bacterium NK4A179 and Lachnospiraceae bacterium C6A11 in stage II (P < 0.05). Therefore, monoammonium glycyrrhizinate could be used as a CH4 inhibitor to limit the rumen CH4 emissions of Karakul sheep in short-term period (30 days) without affecting the growth performance, fibre digestibility and blood parameters.

Elevated blood pressure (BP) is a growing burden worldwide, leading to over 10 million deaths each year. May Measurement Month (MMM) is a global initiative to raise awareness of high BP and acts as a temporary solution to the worldwide shortage of screening programmes. We aimed to screen for hypertension and cardiovascular risk factors in people aged ≥18 years in the community, thereby defining the proportion of participants with elevated BP and assessing the awareness and the effectiveness of its treatment. An opportunistic cross-sectional survey of volunteers aged ≥18 years was carried out in May 2021. Blood pressure measurement, the definition of hypertension, and statistical analysis followed the standard MMM protocol. From May 2021 to June 2021, through three cities/provinces in Vietnam (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), 2572 individuals with mean age 51.5 (SD ±15.7) years were screened. After multiple imputation, 929 (36.1%) had hypertension. Of individuals not receiving antihypertensive medication, 206 (11.2%) were hypertensive. Of individuals receiving antihypertensive medication, 415 (57.4%) had uncontrolled BP (≥140/90 mmHg). The MMM21 BP screening campaign was undertaken in Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic. Undiagnosed and uncontrolled hypertension in Vietnam remains a substantial health problem. Local campaigns applying standardized methods such as MMM21 will be beneficial to screen for a significant number of individuals with raised BP and increase awareness of hypertension.

Objectives: Investigate factors contributing to the effective management of age-related hearing loss (ARHL) rehabilitation. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022374811). Articles were identified through systematic searches in the Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases in May 2024. Only articles published between January 2005 and May 2024 were included. Studies were assessed for eligibility by two independent researchers and evaluated using the Crowe Critical Appraisal Tool v1.4 (CCAT). Results: Of the 278 articles identified, 54 were included. Three factors explain effective HA use. First, hearing aid signal processing, with directional microphones and noise reduction, improves user comfort and understanding regarding noise. Second, there is hearing aid fitting, with the NAL prescription rules as the gold standard, and bilateral, high-level HA performance for spatial localization and noise comprehension. Third, there is a patient-centered approach, using patient-related outcome measures (PROMs), questionnaires, counseling, and regular follow-up to involve patients in their therapeutic rehabilitation. Conclusions: Reaching a consensus on acoustic parameters is challenging due to variability in audiological results. Involving patients in their rehabilitation, addressing their needs and expectations, and offering individualized care are crucial.

Many herbal species in the genus Ligustrum have been shown to contain compounds with anti-cancer biological activity. This study aimed to isolate some compounds from the leaves of Ligustrum robustum (Roxb.) Blume (L. robustum) and evaluate their effects against liver cancer cells. As a result, seven previously reported compounds (1-7) were isolated, including four lignans (1-4) and three phenolic derivatives (5-7). The structures of these compounds were determined using spectroscopic methods and comparison with reported data. All isolates were assessed for their inhibitory effects on HepG2 liver cancer cells. Screening results revealed that two compounds, isocubein (3) and 4-(2-acetoxyethyl)phenol (7), exhibited strong inhibitory activity against cell proliferation, with IC50 values of 3.1±0.9 and 4.5±14 µM, respectively. Further analyses demonstrated that both compounds could suppress the formation and development of 3D tumorspheres in terms of quantity and size. Additionally, isocubein (3) and 4-(2-acetoxyethyl)phenol (7) exhibited the ability to inhibit the migration of HepG2 cells. This study represents the first report on the inhibitory activity against HepG2 liver cancer cells of extracts and isolated compounds from L. robustum, providing valuable information for future research aiming to develop products for liver cancer treatment.

Green energy technology is generally becoming one of hot issues that need to be solved due to the adverse effects on the environment of fossil fuels. One of the strategies being studied and developed by theorists and experimentalists is the use of photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells, which are emerging as a candidate to produce hydrogen from water splitting. However, creating photoelectrodes that meet the requirements for PEC water splitting has emerged as the primary obstacle in bringing this technology to commercial fruition. Here, we construct a heterostructure, which consists of MoS2/TiO2/Au nanoparticles (NPs) to overcome the drawbacks of the photoanode. Owing to the dependence on charge transfer, the bandgap of MoS2/TiO2and the utilization the Au NPs as a stimulant for charges separation of TiO2by localized surface plasmon resonances effect as well as the increase of hot electron injection to cathode, leading to photocatalytic activities are improved. The results have recorded a significant increase in the photocurrent density from 2.3µAcm-2of TiO2to approximately 16.3µAcm-2of MoS2/TiO2/Au NPs. This work unveils a promising route to enhance the visible light adsorption and charge transfer in photo-electrode of the PEC cells by combining two-dimensional materials with metal NPs.

In this study, essential oils and waste hydrosols of leaves of Ocimum tenuiflorum in four different geographical locations were extracted by hydrodistillation method and using gas chromatography / mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for chemical composition analysis. All four essential oil samples contained the main components (E)-ß-caryophyllene (27.8-49.0%), trans-ß-elemene (20.3-37.1%) and eugenol (9.0-44.0%). Three of the four hydrosol samples had eugenol in absolute content (94.5-98.6%), while the remaining hydrosol sample had two main components, elemicin (77.8%) and eugenol (14.2%). Essential oils and hydrosols demonstrated larvicidal activities against four important disease-transmitting mosquito species including Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus, Culex quinquefasciatus, and Culex fuscocephala with 24-h LC50 values in the range 15.42-56.01 µg/mL and 53.88-97.80 µg/mL for the essential oils and the hydrosols, respectively. Essential oils and hydrosols strongly inhibited the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme of electric eels with IC50 values in the range of 25.35-107.19 µg/mL. Microemulsion (ME) can be considered as a sustainable pesticide formulation over 300 days and has improved larvicidal activity compared to free essential oil. The O. tenuiflorum in Vietnam can be considered a low-cost source of eugenol, botanical pesticides that control disease-transmitting mosquitoes, as well as having therapeutic potential to be further investigated.

Seasonal influenza significantly affects both health and economic costs in children and adults. This narrative review summarizes published cost-effectiveness analyses (CEAs) of cell-based influenza vaccines in children and adults <65 years of age, critically assesses the assumptions and approaches used in these analyses, and considers the role of cell-based influenza vaccines for children and adults. CEAs from multiple countries demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of cell-based quadrivalent influenza vaccines (QIVc) compared with egg-based trivalent/quadrivalent influenza vaccines (TIVe/QIVe). CEA findings were consistent across models relying on different relative vaccine effectiveness (rVE) estimate inputs, with the rVE of QIVc versus QIVe ranging from 8.1% to 36.2% in favor of QIVc. Across multiple scenarios and types of analyses, QIVc was consistently cost-effective compared with QIVe, including in children and adults across different regions of the world.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major public health threat, exacerbated by the ability of bacteria to rapidly disseminate antimicrobial resistance genes (ARG). Since conjugative plasmids of the incompatibility group P (IncP) are ubiquitous mobile genetic elements that often carry ARG and are broad-host-range, they are important targets to prevent the dissemination of AMR. Plasmid-dependent phages infect plasmid-carrying bacteria by recognizing components of the conjugative secretion system as receptors. We sought to isolate plasmid-dependent phages from wastewater using an avirulent strain of Salmonella enterica carrying the conjugative IncP plasmid pKJK5. Irrespective of the site, we only obtained bacteriophages belonging to the genus Alphatectivirus. Eleven isolates were sequenced, their genomes analyzed, and their host range established using S. enterica, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas putida carrying diverse conjugative plasmids. We confirmed that Alphatectivirus are abundant in domestic and hospital wastewater using culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches. However, these results are not consistent with their low or undetectable occurrence in metagenomes. Therefore, overall, our results emphasize the importance of performing phage isolation to uncover diversity, especially considering the potential of plasmid-dependent phages to reduce the spread of ARG carried by conjugative plasmids, and to help combat the AMR crisis.

Importance: Children with profound hearing loss (HL) and vestibular impairment have worse cochlear implant outcomes compared with those without vestibular impairment. However, the decision for cochlear implantation is rarely based on vestibular function assessment as a complement to audiologic testing. Objectives: To identify the prevalence of vestibular impairment according to HL origin and to assess the association between vestibular impairment and delayed posturomotor development in children with profound HL. Design, Setting, and Participants: This cohort study was conducted in a pediatric referral center for cochlear implantation in Paris, France, using medical records data on HL origin, vestibular assessment, and ages of developmental milestone achievement. The cohort included children with profound HL (loss >90 dB HL) who completed vestibular assessment prior to cochlear implantation between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2019. Data analyses were conducted between January and June 2023. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was prevalence of vestibular impairment according to HL origin. Children were classified into 3 groups according to their responses to vestibular testing: normal vestibular function (NVF), partially impaired vestibular function (PVF), and complete bilateral vestibular loss (CBVL). Generalized logit models were performed to evaluate the association between vestibular impairment and causes of HL as well as posturomotor development delay. Results: A total of 592 children were included (308 males [52.0%]; mean [SD] age, 38 [34] months). In children with documented HL origin (n = 266), 45.1% (120) had HL with genetic origin, 50.0% of which were syndromic (mainly Usher and Waardenburg syndromes) and 50.0% were nonsyndromic (mainly associated with connexin 26). Among patients with infectious HL origin (n = 74), 70.3% (52) had cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. Vestibular impairment was found in 44.4% (263 of 592) of the children; it was mostly symmetrical in 88.9% (526) and was CBVL in 5.7% (34) of the cases. Vestibular impairment was present in 78.3% (47) of children with genetic syndromic HL (56.7% [34] with PVF; 21.7% [13] with CBVL) and in 69.2% (36) of children with CMV infection (57.7% [30] with PVF; 11.5% [6] with CBVL). Genetic syndromic HL origin was found to be more often associated with both PVF and CBVL than other HL causes. The odds of having delays in 4 developmental milestones (head holding, sitting, standing with support, and independent walking) were higher in both PVF and CBVL (eg, head-holding odds ratios: 2.55 and 4.79) compared with NVF, and the age of achieving these milestones was higher in CBVL than PVF (eg, head holding: 7.33 vs 4.03 years; P < .001). All 4 developmental milestones were associated with the degree of vestibular impairment. Conclusions and Relevance: This cohort study found that among children with profound HL, vestibular impairment was prevalent, varied according to HL origin, and associated with posturomotor development; while all developmental milestones were associated with vestibular impairment severity, not all HL causes were associated with vestibular impairment severity. Children with profound HL may benefit from complete vestibular assessment before cochlear implantation, which would support early and adapted management, such as physical therapy for CBVL and cochlear implantation strategy.

Clostridium perfringens is one of the most important zoonotic pathogens as it can cause food poisoning in humans and necrotic enteritis in both animals and humans. Meat, especially pork and chicken meat, is considered the main vehicle for the transmission of C. perfringens from animals to humans. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence, toxinotype, and antimicrobial resistance profile of C. perfringens isolated from pork and chicken meat sold in Vietnam. The isolation results showed that 15/50 (30%) of pork samples and 8/50 (16%) of chicken meat samples were contaminated with C. perfringens. The isolates exhibited their highest resistance rate to tetracycline (21/23; 91.30%) and clindamycin (10/23; 43.48%). On the contrary, their lowest resistance rates were observed in response to imipenem (2/23; 8.70%) and cefoxitin (1/23; 4.35%). In particular, 34.78% (8/23) of C. perfringens isolates were identified to be multidrug-resistant strains. The results of toxin genotyping indicated that all isolates were positive for the cpa gene and belonged to type A.

INTRODUCTION: The consequence of complete or partial uncompensated vestibular dysfunction in children is usually balance disorders, with the risk of falls and increased fatigue, particularly during tasks requiring postural control. The aim of these recommendations is to establish guidelines for vestibular rehabilitation (VR) in children with vestibular impairment. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The guidelines were developed based on a systematic review of the international literature, validated by a multidisciplinary group of French-speaking otorhinolaryngologists, scientists, and physiotherapists. They are classified as grade A, B, C, or expert opinion according to a decreasing level of scientific evidence. RESULTS: A PubMed search of studies published between January 1990 and December 2021 was carried out using the keywords "vestibular," "rehabilitation," and "children". After filtering and reviewing the articles, a total of 10 publications were included to establish the recommendations. CONCLUSION: It is recommended that a vestibular assessment be carried out before VR, including a study of vestibulo-ocular reflex, otolithic function, and postural control. In cases of vestibular dysfunction, physiotherapy treatment is recommended from an early age to train different aspects of postural control, including anticipatory and reactive postural adjustments. VR adapted to the pediatric population is recommended for children whose vestibular dysfunction leads to functional disorders or symptoms of vertigo for those who have suffered head trauma. It is recommended that children with bilateral vestibular impairment be treated using gaze stabilization exercises for adaptation and substitution. Optokinetic stimulation and virtual reality are not recommended for children and young adolescents.

<b>Background and Objective:</b> <i>Ruellia tuberosa</i> is a common plant in the Mekong Delta and is widely used in many Vietnamese folk remedies. This study was conducted to investigate the potential use of roots, stems, leaves of <i>Ruellia tuberosa</i> as antioxidant, antimicrobial, α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitors. <b>Materials and Methods:</b> The extracts were tested for their ability to inhibit the enzymes α-amylase and α-glucosidase associated with diabetes. The antioxidant activities of the extracts were evaluated using 2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2-Azino-Bis-(3-Ethylbenzothiazoline-6-Sulfonic Acid) (ABTS), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and reducing power (RP) assays. The antibacterial activity of extracts from <i>Ruellia tuberosa</i> was evaluated by the agar well diffusion method. <b>Results:</b> The root extract of <i>Ruellia tuberosa</i> has more polyphenols (32.49±0.72 mg GAE/g extract) and flavonoids (15.48±1.32 mg QE/g extract) than the other parts. Simultaneously, the root extract of <i>Ruellia tuberosa</i> has antioxidant activity (IC<sub>50</sub> values range from 117.67±2.82 to 569.20±7.68 µg/mL), inhibiting amylase (IC<sub>50</sub> = 266.72±10.58 µg/mL) and glucosidase (IC<sub>50</sub> = 147.13±3.58 µg/mL) enzymes more effectively than the other parts. Research results also show that extracts from <i>Ruellia tuberosa</i> are capable of inhibiting <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i>, <i>Escherichia coli</i> and <i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</i> bacteria with minimum inhibitory concentrations ranging from 1280 to 10240 mg/mL. <b>Conclusion:</b> These results highlighted the potential using of <i>Ruellia tuberosa</i> extracts as natural antioxidant, antimicrobial, α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitors agents.

Introduction: To explore the feasibility and safety of retroperitoneal laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RLPN) with selective artery clamp (SAC) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Methods: The authors recruited three men and two women who underwent RLPN for T1 RCC between December 2022 and May 2023 at a tertiary hospital. The median age of the patients was 32 years (range, 25-70 years). The tumour size ranged from 3 to 4.5 cm. The R.E.N.A.L scores were 4x, 5p, 8a, 5a, and 8ah. The median preoperative eGFR was 96.9 (74.3-105.2). Renal computed tomography angiography was performed before the surgery to evaluate the artery branches. The operation time, number of clamped arteries, warm ischaemic time (WIT), intraoperative blood loss, RCC type, postoperative hospital stay, changes in renal function, and complications were evaluated. The follow-up duration was 6 months. Results: The median operation time was 120 (75-150) minutes. One artery was clamped in four patients, while three were clamped in one patient. The median WIT was 22 (15-30) min, and the median blood loss was 150 (100-300) ml. No complications were recorded, and the resection margin was negative in all patients. The median decrease in eGFR was 6 (4-30%). Conclusions: RLPN with SAC for T1 RCC is safe and feasible in clinical practice.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Abdominal ectopic pregnancy (AEP) located at hepatic region and pelvic-wall ectopic pregnancy (EP) are rare entities, that provoking a potentially life-threatening condition. Due to insufficient data, a proper management of non-specific types remains a challenge for all gynecologists worldwide. CASE PRESENTATION: Two child-bearing age women were hospitalized due to delayed menstruation and a urine pregnancy test was positive without a determination of intrauterine pregnancy. The first EP case was located at the pelvic wall which identified incidentally during laparoscopy for a presumed tubal ectopic pregnancy on ultrasonography throughout. The second EP case was found at the hepatic region due to intermittent pain rising from the right upper quadrant region and serial ultrasonic findings. In our management, both cases were successfully assessed by laparoscopy and laparotomy without requiring further intervention, respectively. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: An accurate diagnosis of EP location at liver and pelvic wall is totally difficult since its uncommon location. An initial assessment should be based on clinical symptoms and the treatment remains controversial. The surgical management including laparotomy and laparoscopy depends on clinical evaluation, experience of surgeon, and interdisciplinary team. Thus, these abnormal sites of ectopic pregnancy ought to take into consideration for all gynecologists in an emergency condition with a major hemorrhage. CONCLUSIONS: In reproductive age women, primary EP at liver and pelvic wall should be considered with high index of suspicion if intrauterine pregnancy is totally excluded. Timely diagnosis, rational management by surgical excision, and a multidisciplinary team can reduce substantially adverse outcomes.

In this study, four undescribed bibenzyl derivatives (1-4), together with seven known compounds (5-11) were isolated from the aerial parts of Dendrobium officinale. Their chemical structures were determined to be (7'S,8'S) -9''-acetyldendrocandin U (1), (7'S,8'S) -4'-methoxydendrocandin T (2), (7'R,8'S) -dendrocandin B (3), (1S,2R) -5'''-methoxydendrofindlaphenol C (4) by analyzing of the spectroscopic data including HR-ESI-MS, 1D-, and 2D-NMR spectra. The absolute configurations of compounds 1-4 were determined by the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Compounds 1-3, 5, 10 and 11 inhibited α-glucosidase with the IC50 values ranging from 56.3 to 165.3 µM, compounds 1-3, 5, 7-10 inhibited α-amylase with the IC50 values ranging from 65.2 to 177.6 µM.

Objectives: To describe the status of using biological Disease Modifying Anti Rheumatic Drugs (bDMARDs) to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and related factors. In addition, the study determined the impact of COVID-19 on the usage of bDMARDs. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study and included 219 RA patients over 18 years old. The Kaplan–Meier method and the log-rank test (p<0.05) were used to estimate the retention time and compare between different times. Cox regression analysis was used to determine the factors affecting the retention time of biological drugs (p<0.05). Results: Out of 1967 courses of treatment, there were 149 (7.6%) drug discontinuations, 760 (38.6%) doses extensions and 64 (3.3%) drug switch. Moderate disease level and choosing tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors initially were associated with retention time of COVID-19. Drug discontinuations and dose extensions increased after COVID-19 emergence. The retention time during COVID-19 was significantly different from that of pre-COVID-19. Gender, type of first-used bDMARD, conventional synthetic DMARDs (csDMARDs) and corticoid usage status, disease activity levels were associated with retention time. Conclusion: The presence of COVID-19 has a significant effect on usage status of the biologic drug. Further longitudinal studies are needed to clarify the relationship between COVID-19 and drug usage as well as related factors.(AU)


Objetivos: Describir el estado del uso de fármacos antirreumáticos modificadores de la enfermedad biológica (bDMARD) para tratar la artritis reumatoide (AR) y los factores relacionados. Además, el estudio determinó el impacto de COVID-19 en el uso de bDMARD. Métodos: Este es un estudio transversal que incluyó a 219 pacientes con AR mayores de 18 años. El método Kaplan-Meier y la prueba Log-rank (p<0,05) se usaron para estimar el tiempo de retención y compararlo entre diferentes tiempos. El análisis de regresión de Cox se utilizó para determinar los factores que afectan el tiempo de retención de los medicamentos biológicos (p<0,05). Resultados: De 1.967 cursos de tratamiento, hubo 149 (7,6%) interrupciones del fármaco, 760 (38,6%) extensiones de dosis y 64 (3,3%) cambios de fármaco. Nivel de enfermedad moderado y elección del factor de necrosis tumoral (TNF) inhibidores inicialmente se asociaron con el tiempo de retención de COVID-19. Las discontinuaciones de los medicamentos y las extensiones de las dosis aumentaron después de la aparición de COVID-19. El tiempo de retención durante COVID-19 fue significativamente diferente del pre-COVID-19. Género, tipo de bDMARD de primer uso, convencional DMARD sintéticos (csDMARDs) y el estado de uso de corticoides, los niveles de actividad de la enfermedad se asociaron con el tiempo de retención. Conclusión: La presencia de COVID-19 tiene un efecto significativo en el estado de uso del medicamento biológico. Se necesitan más estudios longitudinales para aclarar la relación entre COVID-19 y el uso de fármacos, así como los factores relacionados.(AU)

RESUMEN

The Eighth Asian National Control Laboratory (NCL) Network meeting, entitled "Biological Products Quality Control and Self-Sufficiency Strategy focusing on plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs)" was held in Seoul on 31 August 2023. The participants were NCL experts from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and the Republic of Korea. Special lectures included the PDMPs self-sufficiency strategies of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Indonesian Food and Drug Authority, and a case study on Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT) assessment for vaccines by the Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The NCL delegates shared their current experiences with national lot releases and biological standardisation. The meeting contributed to a mutual understanding of the progress of the PDMPs self-sufficiency among Asian countries, the WHO's support strategies, and the NCL's plan for the preparation of the WHO GBT assessment. In the panel discussion, all participants agreed that building capacity in blood safety in the Asian region and harmonisation of relevant international regulatory requirements will support appropriate emergency preparedness, particularly source materials in the region, and will build the foundation for resolving the PDMPs supply insecurity that has worsened after the COVID-19 pandemic in some countries.
