RESUMEN
The trends in teenagers' health in the past decade have been studied. A total of 2442 pupils from general and vocational training schools have been examined. There have been increases in morbidity and in the incidence of social diseases, there has been a decrease in their physical development. Methodological approaches to examining the health status in this age group are presented. Examining the procedures developed for monitoring adolescents' health has shown that they yield positive results.

Hemodynamic and functional cardiac parameters were examined in 24 normal subjects and 43 patients with moderate arterial hypertension, grouped on the basis of their mean hemodynamic pressure. Considerable sex-specific differences were demonstrated in cardiovascular status and performance of both normal and hypertensive individuals. Young boys and girls showed different compensatory cardiac response to stressful pressure that may be attributed to different degrees of left-ventricular myocardial hypertrophy.

Some problems of computer-based automating processes of adolescent health screening in an outpatient clinic are discussed. The block diagram of investigations is presented, and results of utilizing the system in a district outpatient clinic are analysed. Operation of the system in an interactive mode is described by using algorithms of fuzzy logic.
