RESUMEN

A general account is given in this paper of history, incidence, pathogen properties, morphogenesis, isolation, and culturing of Tahyna virus. Reference is also made to methods for detection, host spectrum, immunity, epizootiology, pathogenesis, and clinical symptoms in man and animals and also to aspects relating to pathological anatomy as well as to regular and differential diagnosis.

RESUMEN

The potential advantages offered by live vaccines, as compared to inactivated vaccines, are described, with reference being made to experience so far obtained from the use of live vaccines in livestock farming. The favourable properties of live vaccines seem to promise more widespread use in the future. Certain demands have to be made on live vaccines against the background of production processes in livestock farming. These are described in greater detail. Demands, finally, are derived from the above aspects regarding immunobiological action.

RESUMEN

Reported in this paper is the use of Spirovak erysipelas live vaccine for aerogenic immunisation against swine erysipelas under conditions of floor keeping. Two different aerosol spray nozzles were used. Results which will be applicable under practice conditions were achieved by means of a vortex injector nozzle. One single aerogenic immunisation, 4 to 12 X 10(7) live germs per cubic metre, provided sufficient protection against infection.
