RESUMEN
Bearing in mind the important role of oxidative stress and intensification of lipid peroxidation processes in the development and progression of obstructive pathology of the respiratory organs, we deemed it appropriate to evaluate the therapeutic effect of general baths containing biolong, an agent showing the antihypoxic and antioxidative properties. The clinical and functional studies that involved 109 patients (52 with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and 57 with bronchial asthma (BA)) have demonstrated the advantages of application of the hydrotherapeutic modality in the patients with bronchial asthma. The therapeutic effect was due to degradation of the allergic inflammation processes, the well apparent decrease in the activity of lipid peroxidation processes, the improvement of humoral immunity, generalized reduction of bronchial obstruction, enhanced physical working capacity, and psychoemotional adaptation.

The scope of applications of spa-based water procedures have become considerably extended during the recent years; accordingly, the frequency of complications and accidents has increased. The present review considers the possible mechanisms underlying such complications and various factors promoting their development, such as the patients' age and chronic diseases, the use of pharmaceutical products affecting thermoregulation and cardiovascular function. Special attention is given to the influence of alcohol consumption on the frequency of complications, accidents, and sudden death associated with hyperthermal procedures, the possibility of infectious diseases and measures necessary for their prevention.

Including of balneological therapy with the use of the baths Bi-olong in the programs of medical rehabilitation makes possible to improve considerable the state of peripheral haemodynamics, the indices of adaptation and regulation in patients with vegetative vascular dystonia. This fact can be explained with the positive corrective effect of bath Biolong reactant mitophen on cell respiration by the system cytochrome P450 activation. Also it is possible to assume that mitophen leads to decrease imbalance between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems participating in regulation and adaptation of vascular wall. Use of bath Biolong in the therapy of patient with hypertonic vegetative vascular dystonia ought to consider as an effective, harmless and pathogenetically reasonable method which can be recommended to include in combined rehabilitation.

High sensitivity of patients with cardiovascular diseases to weather conditions was successfully managed by contrast temperature training which secured not only resistance to temperature fluctuations but also to a complex of weather factors. This, in the long run, secured a decline in the number of coronary heart disease and hypertension exacerbations and higher quality of life.
