RESUMEN
A field study of tritium migration from an underground nuclear explosion was carried out for more than 7 years. A series of satellite wells was drilled around the explosion cavity, which is within a nuclear test site water-supply aquifer. Samples from various wells were analysed. In this way, variations in the tritium concentration of water from different wells were determined, and the extent of tritium migration during the 7 years after the detonation was examined. The maximum tritium concentration reached in water from various wells is just 52-times higher than the maximum permissible concentration for drinking water and decreased afterwards. According to the results obtained, the flow rate of groundwater was inferred to be about 91 m per year and the maximum contamination distance of water supplies by the tritium were < or = 2 km from the explosion cavity.

The effects of Guifu Dihuang Pills extract were observed in rabbit IgG accelerated mouse nephritis model induced by nephrotoxic serum. The results showed that this preparation could increase serum albumin, reduce urine protein, serum urea nitrogen and total cholesterol in serum, and improve the histological lesions in kidneys. The effects of Guifu Dihuang Pills extract in dosages of 0.3g/kg and 1.2g/kg were similar to those of cyclophosphamide 0.015g/kg.

Experimental observation was made on the effect of GFDH pills and their oral liquid preparation on thymus and spleen weight, formation of the antibody haemolysis plaque and phagocytic function of the macrophages of peritoneal cavity. The result revealed that both GFDH pills and their oral liquid preparation were found helpful to the enhancement of immunological function. The oral liquid preparation also increased markedly the plasma level of testosterone in immature rats.

The comparison shows that both Shiquandabu pills and Shiquandabu liquor are efficacious in strengthening the immunological functions of mice. No significant difference has been found between the two forms of preparation. There exists a good dose-efficacy relationship for the pills in immunological functions.

Polysaccharides PES isolated from a common Oriental herb Acanthopanax senticosus were found to have a wide spectrum of immunomodulatory activities on experimental animals. The potential usefulness of these polysaccharides is suggested in the observations that PES inhibited transplanted tumor growths and ameliorated toxicities of the toxic substances in experimental animals. Of most interest is the observations that they suppressed human TB propagation in mice and guinea pigs, as evaluated by lymph node responses and OT skin tests in the guinea pig model, and the quantitation of the TB in the lungs in the mouse model.

Separation of the immunosuppressive principles from Rehmanniae radix was done by monitoring hemolytic plaque-forming cells (HPFC) inhibitory activity to give two new phenethyl alcohol glycosides: jionosides A1 (4) and B1 (5), along with six known compounds: acetoside, isoacteoside, purpureaside C, echinacoside, and cistanosides A and F.
