RESUMEN

We herein document a rare instance of primary mucinous ovarian carcinoma metastatic to the left lung, whose deceptive secondary derivation was already envisaged according to the spectacular thromboembolism involving small pulmonary vessels, thereby realizing a centrifugal and centripetal metastatizing loop. This presentation was indicative of dismal prognosis. A multimodal biomarker key approach is herein emphasized, which included close clinico-pathologic data integration.

RESUMEN

The hexanuclear [Na12Fe6(tris-cyclo-salophen)2(THF)14], 1-THF, and the trinuclear [Na6Fe3(tris-cyclo-salophen)(py)9], 1-py, Fe(II) clusters can be easily assembled in one step from the ligand-based reduction of the [FeII(salophen)(THF)] complex. These complexes consist of triangular cores where three Fe(II) ions are held together, within range of bonding interaction, by the hexa-amide, hexaphenolate macrocyclic ligand tris-cyclo-salophen12-. The tris-cyclo-salophen12- ligand is perfectly suited for binding three Fe(II) centers at short distances, allowing for strong magnetic coupling between the Fe(II) centers. The macrocyclic ligand is generated by the reductive coupling of the imino groups of three salophen ligands, resulting in three new C-C bonds. The six electrons stored in the ligand become available for the reduction of carbon dioxide with selective formation of carbonate.

RESUMEN

The activation of CS2 is of interest in a broad range of fields and, more particularly, in the context of creating new C-C bonds. The reaction of the dinuclear ytterbium(II) complex [Yb2 L4 ], 1, [L=(OtBu)3 SiO- ] with carbon disulfide led to the isolation of unprecedented reduction products. In particular, the crystallographic characterization of complex [Yb2 L4 (µ-C2 S2 )], 2, provided the first example of an acetylenedithiolate ligand formed from metal reduction of CS2 . Computational studies indicated that this unprecedented reactivity can be ascribed to the unusual binding mode of CS2 2- in the isolated "key intermediate" [Yb2 L4 (µ-CS2 )], 3, which results from the dinuclear nature of 1.

RESUMEN

Two dinuclear homoleptic complexes of lanthanides(ii) supported by the polydentate tris(tertbutoxy) siloxide ligand ([Yb2L4], 1-Yb and [Sm2L4], 1-Sm, (L = (OtBu)3SiO-)) were synthesized in 70-80% yield and 1-Sm was crystallographically characterized. 1-Yb and 1-Sm are stable in solution at -40 °C but cleave the DME C-O bond over time at room temperature affording the crystal of [Yb2L4(µ-OMe)2(DME)2], 2. The 1-Yb and 1-Sm complexes effect the reduction of CO2 under ambient conditions leading to carbonate and oxalate formation. The selectivity of the reduction towards oxalate or carbonate changes depend on the solvent polarity and on the nature of the ion. For both the lanthanides, carbonate formation is favoured but oxalate formation increases if a non-polar solvent is used. Computational studies suggest that the formation of oxalate is favoured with respect to carbonate formation in the reaction of the dimeric lanthanide complexes with CO2. Crystals of the tetranuclear mixed-valence oxalate intermediate [Yb4L8(C2O4)], 3 were isolated from hexane and the presence of a C2O42- ligand bridging two [YbIIL2YbIIIL2] dinuclear moieties was shown. Crystals of the tetranuclear di-carbonate product [Sm4L8(µ3-CO3-κ4-O,O',O'')2], 4 were isolated from hexane. The structures of 3 and 4 suggest that the CO2 activation in non-polar solvents involves the interaction of two dimers with CO2 molecules at least to some extent. Such a cooperative interaction results in both oxalate and carbonate formation.

RESUMEN

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, with increases in diagnoses at all ages. Due to several age-related factors, older breast cancer patients show particular difficulties in adjusting to breast cancer and its related treatments. One consistent indicator of vulnerability to long-term complications is emotional distress occurring within 3 months of diagnosis. Thus, it is critical to develop early interventions specifically aimed at mitigating distress and promoting emotional wellbeing in older breast cancer patients. By taking advantage of the opportunities of online interventions, the present study aimed to test the efficacy of a 2 weeks e-health stress inoculation training (SIT) intervention on emotion regulation and cancer-related well-being, compared with a control group without such intervention. Twenty-nine women with a diagnosis of breast cancer, who had received radical surgery and who were suitable candidates for adjuvant chemotherapy with anthracyclines and taxanes (mean age = 62.76; SD = 6.19) voluntarily took part in the current study after giving written informed consent. To test intervention efficacy, self-report questionnaires were administered to all participants at baseline, at the end of the 2 weeks intervention, and 3 months after the end of the intervention. Results showed that after 2 weeks of ehealth intervention, patients did not achieve significant change, however, they significantly reduced emotional suppression and increased cancer-related emotional well-being 3 months after the end of the intervention. Furthermore, by monitoring at a distance the emotional experience during the online intervention, we found an increase in relaxation and a reduction of anxiety. Finally, patients in the experimental group reported a good level of acceptance of the ehealth intervention. To conclude, designing and developing eHealth interventions as part of the regular care path for breast cancer patients of all ages represents both a challenge and an opportunity; in particular, online interventions can be an important step in universal psychosocial care within a tiered model of care.

RESUMEN

The dinuclear SmII complex, [Sm2L4(dme)] (L = OSi(OtBu)3), is easily obtained from the protonolysis reaction of [Sm{N(SiMe3)2}(thf)2] with HOSi(OtBu)3. This complex reacts slowly with toluene, resulting in the isolation of the triple-decker arene-bridged SmII complex, [{Sm2L3}2(µ-η6:η6-C7H8)], in 44% yield. This reactivity provides the first example of unambiguous arene reduction by an isolated SmII species. In contrast, reduction of [SmL3]2 afforded the inverse sandwich complex, [{KSmL3}2(µ-η6:η6-C7H8)].

RESUMEN

Although all professions are susceptible to work-related stress, the nursing profession has been identified as particularly stressful; indeed, oncology nursing is often described as being among the most stressful specialty areas. The current study tested the short-term effects of an innovative self-help stress management training for oncology nurses supported by mobile tools. The sample included 30 female oncology nurses with permanent status employed in six oncology hospitals in Milan, Italy. The stress inoculation training (SIT) methodology served as the basis of the training, with the innovative challenge being the use of mobile phones to support the stress management experience. To test the efficacy of the protocol, the study used a between-subjects design, comparing the experimental condition (SIT through mobile phones) with a control group (neutral video through mobile phones). The findings indicated psychological improvement of the experimental group in terms of anxiety state, anxiety trait reduction, and coping skills acquisition. This paper discusses implications for the implementation of this protocol in several contexts.

RESUMEN

Oncology nurses face extraordinary stresses that may lead to emotional exhaustion, a feeling of emotional distance from patients and burnout. The presentation describes the preliminary results of a study to test the effects of an innovative 4-week 8-session self-help stress management training for oncology nurses supported by mobile tools (Nokia N70 smarthphone). The sample included 16 female oncology nurses with permanent status employed in different oncology hospitals in Milan, Italy. The study used a between-subjects design, comparing the experimental condition (mobile phone stress management protocol) with a control group (neutral videos through mobile phones). In addition to a significant reduction in anxiety state at the end of each session, the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in affective change in terms of anxiety trait reduction and coping skills acquisition at the end of the protocol.
