RESUMEN

Prostatic biopsy is a definitive diagnostic method that should be used whenever a prostatic malignancy is suspected. Anatomically it can be done from the transrectal or perineal route. In two methods transrectal ultrasonography can be used as a helper tool. In this paper we present two cases of pelvic haematoma following prostatic biopsy that occasionally cause complications.

RESUMEN

In a prospective randomized study, the "extrusion" operation modified by McGowan Jr. and Howley and the conventional "eversion" operations were compared with each other in terms of early and late postoperative complications in the treatment of idiopathic scrotal hydrocele. As early complications with the "extrusion" procedure a total of 4 (11.4%) cases were seen: 3 oedemas and 1 epididymitis; and with the "eversion" procedures there were 18 (51.4%) early complications: 3 haematomas, 12 oedemas and 3 wound infections (11.4 vs. 51.4%, p < 0.05). In the late ones 1 recurrence and permanent testicular pain were seen with the "extrusion" procedure.

RESUMEN

Benign testicular masses are recognized with increasing frequency and testis-sparing surgery, based on benign frozen section diagnosis, is practiced more often. However, there is a paucity of information in the medical literature regarding the accuracy of frozen section diagnoses of testicular tumors, and misdiagnoses could have dire consequences. We reviewed thirty frozen section examinations that were performed between 1962 and 1991, a period in which five hundred inguinal orchiectomies were performed. The entire testicle was available for histologic evaluation in 26 cases. Frozen sections correctly identified all of twenty-four malignant and two benign testicular masses. This study demonstrates that frozen section examinations can accurately diagnose testicular cancer.

RESUMEN

HLA antigen type was studied in 55 patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. The results showed high HLA-B5 and low HLA-BW35 frequencies. Histological grade, stage, and recurrence rate of tumors were also evaluated separately. The results were more significant in recurrent tumors.
