In 20 patients with acute bronchitis (AB) the results of the investigations of cellular and humoral immunity and the phagocytic system were compared with a clinical and bronchoscopic picture of disease. The acute period of disease was characterized by considerable activation of the majority of immunoreactivity indices. Complete normalization of the immune status and clinical findings was observed only 3-4 mos after recovery.

Under investigation were 112 patients subjected to pneumonectomy in terms from 2 to 31 years ago. Substantial disturbances of the ventilatory function, bronchial passability and pulmonary blood flow were revealed in patients with one lung. Two thirds of the patients have developed persistent pulmonary hypertension following catheterization of the right compartments of the heart, 22% of the examined patients had the latent form (revealed by physical load). The authors emphasize doubtful value of the ECG for diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension due to a pronounced change in the position of the heart after pulmonectomy.

The investigation performed has revealed moderate pulmonary hypertension associated with adaptation of the organism to changed conditions of blood circulation in the lungs. Greatly elevated pressure in the lung artery in response to physical exercise allowed to make a conclusion of practically complete mobilization of compensatory reserves of the right portion of the heart. The changes in the functional state of the remaining lung are evaluated as compensatory ones aimed at the maintenance of a sufficient square surface for gas exchange.
