RESUMEN

Honey-processed Licorice, a type of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizome processed with honey, is renowned for its superior effectiveness in tonifying the spleen and invigorating Qi compared to the raw product. Our previous research showed that flavonoids and saponins in licorice changed after processing. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of chemical composition and biological activity of polysaccharides after processing. The weight-average molecular weight (Mw) measured by HPGPC showed that the Mw distribution range of raw licorice polysaccharides (RLP) was 1.34 × 103-1.36 × 106 Da, and the Mw distribution range of honey-processed licorice polysaccharides (HPLP) was 1.15 × 103-1.17 × 106 Da, the Mw distribution range of the two were basically the same. The analysis of monosaccharide composition showed that the types of monosaccharide in RLP and HPLP were consistent, and the contents of mannose, rhamnose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid and glucose in HPLP were significantly higher than those in RLP. Furthermore, the impact of these polysaccharides on chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) showed that the high-dose group of HPLP had significantly better improvement of IL-2, IFN-γ and IgA than RLP. Multi-omics analysis showed that both of them could affect the immune system by regulating immunoglobulin, B-cell signaling pathway and T cell phenotypic differentiation. Interestingly, the HPLP could affect the natural killer cells mediated cytotoxicity on this basis. The above results indicated the effects of honey processing on the chemical composition and biological activities of licorice polysaccharides and elucidated the underlying mechanism of the superior biological activities of HPLP over RLP.

RESUMEN

This research aims to study the impact of implicit emotion on the use of theory of mind and enrich the research on emotions and the use of theory of mind, thus allowing adults to apply theory of mind more effectively in the context of social interaction. This study includes 120 college students as participants. A two (level of theory of mind: high vs. low) * three (implicit emotional state: implicit positive emotion, implicit neutral emotion, or implicit negative emotion) * two (private knowledge: endowed vs. unendowed) between-subjects three-factor design was employed. This study obtained the following results: (1) The main effect of different implicit emotional states on college students' use of theory of mind is significant. College students with implicit positive emotions use theory of mind much less than those with implicit neutral and negative emotions. (2) In cases of implicit positive emotions, college students with a low level of theory of mind use theory of mind substantially less than students with a high level of theory of mind. In cases of implicit neutral and negative emotions, college students with the high and low theory of mind do not exhibit substantial differences in their use of theory of mind. This study concludes that different emotional states affect college students' use of theory of mind.

RESUMEN

Tamarixetin and its glycosides are widely distributed in natural plants, and they are also natural flavonoid derivatives of quercetin. Its main pharmacological effects include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anticancer, cardiovascular effects, etc. The pharmacokinetics showed that the distribution of direct absorption differed from that of biosynthesis. At the same time, research shows that tamarixetin is safe to use because it has little self-toxicity. In this paper, 181 articles on tamarixetin published from 1976 to 2023 are obtained from PubMed, China Knowledge Base Database, Wanfang Data, and other electronic databases. Tamarixetin is searched based on keywords, and 121 articles remain. Transformation synthesis, pharmacokinetics, pharmacological action, and structure-activity relationship of tamarixetin were reviewed.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Licorice is an important traditional Chinese medicine commonly used in clinical practice and contains more than 300 flavonoids. Chalcone is one of the main types of flavonoids with a wide range of biological functions and pharmacological activities. In the anticancer research, chalcone compounds have shown excellent performance. OBJECTIVE: This review aims to summarize the biosynthetic pathway and pharmacokinetics of chalcone from licorice and provide evidence for the anticancer effects of chalcone and the underlying mechanisms involved. METHODS: For this review, the following databases were consulted: the PubMed Database (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (http:// www.cnki.net), National Science and Technology Library (http://www.nstl.gov.cn/), Wanfang Data (http://www.wanfangdata.com.cn/), and the Web of Science Database (http:// apps.webofknowledge.com/). RESULTS: To date, about 56 chalcones have been isolated and identified from licorice, 14 of which have antitumor effects. These chalcones have a wide range of biological activities and can inhibit the viability, proliferation, and migration of cancer cells by blocking the cancer cell cycle, thus inducing apoptosis and autophagy. However, the molecular mechanism of the anticancer effects of chalcone is not fully understood. CONCLUSION: In this paper, the molecular mechanism of chalcone regulating different types of cancer is reviewed in detail from the biosynthetic pathway. This comprehensive review article summarizes the biosynthetic pathway and pharmacokinetics of chalcone from the traditional Chinese medicine licorice and provides evidence for the potential anticancer effects of chalcone and the respective mechanisms of action. This paper also provides a basis for structural modification, biosynthesis, and new drug development of chalcone compounds in Glycyrrhiza uralensis.
