Background: The present study aims to determine the effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) on neuro-sensory disturbance after orthognathic surgery. Materials and methods: In a randomized clinical trial, the participants via split-mouth sampling were randomly divided into two intervention (n=27) and control (n=27) groups. In the intervention group, participants received TENS physiotherapy. TENS physiotherapy was performed on the day after surgery, 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks after surgery, along with prescriptions for the use of painkillers. On the control group, no physical therapy was performed and the patients only used painkillers (immediately after the operation). Paresthesia was evaluated using the 2-point discrimination (TPD) test and the semi-quantitative sensory-neural disorders test called brush stroke 6 months after the surgical procedures. Self-reported sensory-neural disorders were measured and reported for each patient before and 6 months after surgery using the visual analog scale (VAS). Results: A total of 54 patients participated in this study. The mean TPD score in the TENS group and the control group 6 months after the operation were 5.76 (SD=0.73) and 6.14 (SD=0.54), respectively (P=0.003). The mean VAS score in the TENS group and the control group 6 months after the operation was 6.48 (SD=0.50) and 5.80 (SD=0.63), respectively (P=0.005). Also, 66.7 and 38.9% in the TENS and control groups, respectively, performed the brush stroke test correctly (P=0.007). Conclusion: In sum, the benefits of TENS physiotherapy can be effective in reducing complications such as pain in dental surgery treatments or orthognathic surgeries.

INTRODUCTION: Heart failure (HF) is a significant worldwide concern due to its substantial impact on mortality rates and recurrent hospitalizations. The relationship between recurrent hospitalizations and mortality in individuals diagnosed with heart failure has been the subject of conflicting findings in previous studies. A meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the association between recurrent heart failure hospitalizations (HFHs) and mortality. METHODS: We conducted a systematic search across various online databases, such as PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, ProQuest, Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar, to locate studies that examined the connection between recurrent HFHs and cardiovascular (CV) mortality as well as all-cause mortality until January 2023. To evaluate the heterogeneity among the studies, we employed I2 and Cochran's Q test. RESULTS: In total, 143,867 participants from seven studies were included in the analysis. Recurrent HFHs were found to be strongly associated with elevated risks of both cardiovascular (CV) mortality and all-cause mortality. The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) indicated a non-significant association for CV mortality (HR = 4.28, 95% CI: 0.86-7.71) but a significant association for all-cause mortality (HR = 2.76, 95% CI: 2.05-3.48). Subgroup analyses revealed a reduction in heterogeneity when stratified by factors such as quality score, sample size, hypertension comorbidity, number of recurrent HFHs, and follow-up time. A clear correlation was observed between the frequency of HFH and the mortality risk. Various subgroups, including those with diabetes, atrial fibrillation, and chronic kidney disease, showed significant associations between recurrent HFHs and all-cause mortality. Additionally, recurrent HFHs were significantly associated with CV mortality in subgroups such as heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), atrial fibrillation, and diabetes. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis provides evidence of an association between recurrent HFH and elevated risk of both CV mortality and all-cause mortality. The findings consistently indicate that a higher frequency of HFH is strongly associated with an increased likelihood of mortality.

BACKGROUND: In developing nations, myocardial infarction (MI) remains a significant contributor to deaths from sudden cardiac arrest, with diet playing a key role in its incidence through oxidative stress mechanisms. Although the connection between the Dietary Antioxidant Index (DAI) and cardiovascular diseases has been demonstrated in some studies, the relationship between DAI and MI has not been extensively explored. Therefore, this research aims to investigate this association. METHODS: We conducted a nested case-control study involving 156 MI cases and 312 healthy controls, utilizing data from the Fasa Adults Cohort Study (FACS), a population-based study of individuals aged 35-70 residing in Fasa, Iran, with 11,097 participants included at baseline. The DAI was determined by normalizing the intake values of six dietary vitamins and minerals, adjusting by subtracting the global mean, and then dividing by the global standard deviation. MI diagnosis was established by an experienced cardiologist using electronic medical records. Conditional logistic regression was employed to examine the association between DAI and MI. RESULTS: There were no significant differences between the case and control groups in terms of age (P = 0.96), gender distribution (P = 0.98), and education level (P = 0.38). In a multiple conditional logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for key variables-including body mass index (BMI), smoking status, education level, and serum levels of triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), total cholesterol (TC), fasting blood sugar (FBS), saturated fatty acids (SFA), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)-an inverse association was found between DAI and the risk of myocardial infarction (MI) [adjusted Odds Ratio (Adj OR) = 0.88, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.85-0.92; P < 0.001]. CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the crucial role of the DAI in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction. Promoting diets rich in antioxidants presents a straightforward and effective strategy for MI prevention and the promotion of cardiovascular health, underscoring the novelty and significance of this research in dietary approaches to disease prevention.

Context: Short implants are acceptable treatment options for atrophic ridges; however, they increase the crown-to-implant (C/I) ratio compared to regular length implants. The study aimed to assess the correlation between the C/I ratio and marginal bone loss (MBL) in single short implants at the posterior of the mandible. Aims: The study aimed to assess the correlation between the C/I ratio and MBL in single short implants at the posterior of the mandible. Settings and Design: Cross-sectional study. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed short implants with 6 mm lengths at the posterior of the mandible. The long-cone peri-apical digital radiographs were taken immediately after loading and 24 months later. Age, gender, implant diameter, gingival biotype, and implant brands were the study variables, and the C/I ratio was the predictive factor. The mean MBL at 2 years was considered the study outcome. Statistical Analysis Used: The Pearson correlation test was applied to assess the correlation between MBL and C/I. Results: Seventy implants (36 Straumann and 34 SGS implants) were studied. A significant difference was observed in the mean MBL between the two implant brands (P < 0.001). Besides, a correlation was found between MBL and the C/I ratio (P = 0.002). Conclusions: It seems that the C/I ratio is associated with an MBL increase in single short implants at the posterior of the mandible.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Eating patterns significantly impact the weight loss process. This study aimed to investigate the influence of primary eating patterns on weight loss measures in overweight and obese adults using network meta-analysis. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science (WOS), and Google Scholar until May 2, 2023. Our network meta-analysis followed the PRISMA extension guidelines for Comparing Mediterranean, low carbohydrate and low fat diet effects on weight loss among overweight/obese adults. We conducted a Frequentist random-effects network meta-analysis. Summary effects were presented as mean differences (MD) along with corresponding standard deviations (SD). P-scores were used for treatment ranking within the network. RESULTS: Initial literature searches yielded 1574 citations. Ultimately, 1004 participants from 7 RCTs (or 9 trials) met inclusion criteria. All diets resulted in weight loss. Comparatively, the low-carbohydrate diet exhibited a significant decrease in weight loss compared to the Mediterranean diet (MD = -2.70 kg, 95% CI: -4.65, -0.75). Indirect evidence revealed that both the low-carbohydrate diet (MD = -6.31 kg, 95% CI: -11.23, -1.39) and the low-fat diet (MD = -5.61 kg, 95% CI: -10.61, -0.61) significantly reduced weight among overweight/obese adults compared to the standard hypolipemic diet. Rankings indicated the low-carbohydrate diet as the most effective dietary intervention for enhancing weight loss (P-score = 0.8994) and reducing body fat (P-score = 0.7060). CONCLUSIONS: Overall, a low-carb diet appears to be among the most effective approaches for weight loss and body fat reduction. However, it's essential to consider that its efficacy may vary based on factors such as age, gender, genetics, and lifestyle habits.

BACKGROUND: Depression is a prevalent and serious mental health disorder that significantly impacts daily life and functioning. Neurofilament Light chain (NfL), associated with axonal neuronal damage, has been identified as a promising biomarker, potentially aiding in early diagnosis of depression, personalized treatment, and tracking disease progression. This study used meta-analysis to evaluate the potential of plasma NfL as a biomarker for depression patients. METHODS: A systematic search following the PRISMA guidelines was conducted across PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases to find relevant studies on plasma NfL levels in patients with depression. A random effects model meta-analysis was applied to determine its potential as a biomarker for differentiating patients from controls. RESULTS: Our meta-analysis, based on four articles with six datasets, revealed that plasma NfL levels were notably higher in individuals with depression (228 cases) compared to healthy controls (118 individuals). The weighted mean difference (WMD) was 8.78 (95% CI: 5.28, 12.28; P < 0.01), indicating a significant effect size. Given the diverse confounding factors inherent in the included observational studies, the observed variability can be attributed to these influences. Due to the observed heterogeneity (heterogeneity Chi-Square: 54.91, p < 0.05), we performed a subgroup analysis. Subgroup analyses based on depression type and analysis method consistently supported the association between NfL and depression, strengthening the evidence. CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis demonstrates that elevated NfL levels may serve as a promising biomarker for diagnosing depressive disorders. Further research on diverse subtypes and longitudinal changes is needed to validate its clinical utility.

RESUMEN

This study describes a multidisciplinary approach for correcting a severe Class II malocclusion with reduced mandibular transverse dimension. A 35-year-old woman presented with an increased overjet, complaining chiefly of forwardly placed upper front teeth and unpleasant smile esthetics. The patient had a convex profile with severe mentalis strain on lip closure. Intraoral examination indicated a bilateral Class II canine relationship, scissor bite, and narrow lower arch. The skull lateral view assessment revealed a skeletal Class II relationship with reduced lower facial height. According to the diagnostic records and after consultation with the patient, surgically assisted expansion of the mandibular symphysis with a bone distractor, comprehensive orthodontic treatment, and combined jaw surgery were planned, followed by dental implant placement and prosthetic full-mouth rehabilitation. Restorative dentistry, orthodontics, and orthognathic surgery were the 3 disciplines that helped in achieving the best esthetic and functional results in this patient.

This double-blind, randomised clinical trial aimed to find out whether there is a difference in the prevalence of neurosensory disturbance (NSD) between patients who received 2% lidocaine and those who received 4% articaine during inferior alveolar nerve blocks (IANBs). Patients who underwent third molar extraction were randomised into two groups. IANB was performed using 2% lidocaine in Group 1 and 4% articaine in Group 2. The occurrence of NSD was documented. Patients were visited within 48 hours and one week after the tooth was removed. The type of anaesthetic drug (4% articaine versus 2% lidocaine) was the study's predictive factor. A total of 2400 patients were studied in two groups (1200 in each group). The mean (range) age of the patients was 28.40 (18-44) years. Five patients (0.41%) in the lidocaine group and seven (0.58%) in the articaine group had NSD after injection (p = 0.77). The prevalence of NSD after IANB was no higher in the articaine group than in the lidocaine group.

CD38-targeting immunotherapy is approved in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) that are transplant ineligible (TI) and is considered the best standard of care (SOC). To improve current SOC, we evaluated the added value of weekly bortezomib (V) to isatuximab plus lenalidomide and dexamethasone (IsaRd versus Isa-VRd). This Intergroupe Francophone of Myeloma phase 3 study randomized 270 patients with NDMM that were TI, aged 65-79 years, to IsaRd versus Isa-VRd arms. The primary endpoint was a minimal residual disease (MRD) negativity rate at 10-5 by next-generation sequencing at 18 months from randomization. Key secondary endpoints included response rates, MRD assessment rates, survival and safety. The 18-month MRD negativity rates at 10-5 were reported in 35 patients (26%, 95% confidence interval (CI) 19-34) in IsaRd versus 71 (53%, 95% CI 44-61) in Isa-VRd (odds ratio for MRD negativity 3.16, 95% CI 1.89-5.28, P < 0.0001). The MRD benefit was consistent across subgroups at 10-5 and 10-6, and was already observed at month 12. The proportion of patients with complete response or better at 18 months was higher with Isa-VRd (58% versus 33%; P < 0.0001), as was the proportion of MRD negativity and complete response or better (37% versus 17%; P = 0.0003). At a median follow-up of 23.5 months, no difference was observed for survival times (immature data). The addition of weekly bortezomib did not significantly affect the relative dose intensity of IsaRd. Isa-VRd significantly increased MRD endpoints, including the 18-month negativity rate at 10-5, the primary endpoint, compared with IsaRd. This study proposes Isa-VRd as a new SOC for patients with NDMM that are TI. ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT04751877 .

Exercise can have a wide range of health benefits, including improving blood lipid profiles. For women to achieve optimal cardiovascular health, it is vital to determine the effect of exercise on their health and whether different exercise intensities can affect their blood lipid profile. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to examine the effects of exercise on improving the lipid profile of healthy women. A database search was conducted using PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science from inception until July 2, 2021, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating exercise's effects on healthy women's blood lipid profiles. A total of 10 eligible articles (or 17 trials) with 576 participants were identified as eligible for the study. Overall, the meta-analysis shows that physical activity significantly improved total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) levels: TC [WMD = -5.77 mg/dL, 95% CI: -10.41, -1.13, P < 0.01]; TG [WMD = -5.60 mg/dL, 95% CI: -8.96, -2.23, P < 0.01]; HDL [WMD = 4.49 mg/dL, 95% CI: 0.33, 8.65, P = 0.03]. Additionally, sub-group analyses indicated that combined exercise training improved TG and TC (p 0.05), and aerobic exercise significantly increased HDL. In this study, physical activity appears to be one of the most effective non-pharmacological means for improving HDL, TG, and TC in healthy women. In terms of TG and TC, CT was the most effective.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to compare pain relief in temporomandibular disorder (TMD) patients with or without lifestyle modification. Materials and Methods: This randomized clinical trial was performed on patients with TMD, who did not regularly exercise or listen to music. The participants were allocated into two groups. In the treatment group, the participants were instructed to exercise five times or more per week (30 minutes per session) and listen to the music of their choice five times or more per week (15 minutes per session) for 12 weeks. In the control group, the participants had their usual lifestyle without any modifications. The participants were examined for clicking and crepitus in the joint and maximum mouth opening before and after the intervention. The pain severity was also documented based on a visual analog scale. Results: Thirty five patients were studied in each group. Twelve weeks after the intervention, the mean pain severity was 2.70 ± 0.73 in the treatment group and 4.63 ± 0.77 in the control group. The results of data analysis demonstrated a significant difference between the two groups regarding the mean pain severity at 12 weeks after the intervention (P <.001). Conclusions: Lifestyle modification through physical exercise and listening to music may reduce pain in TMD patients.

Studies investigating the effects of flaxseed oil on lipid profiles, weight loss, and inflammatory markers have produced inconsistent results. This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) aimed to explore the impact of flaxseed oil on these parameters in hemodialysis patients. The study protocol was registered online (PROSPERO number: CRD42023484076). The meta-analyses showed a significant decrease in triglyceride (TG) levels (WMD = -85.78 mg/dL, 95% CI: -155.24 to -16.32, I2 = 98.32%) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels (WMD = -2.66 mg/L, 95% CI: -4.07 to -1.24, I2 = 92.26%) following consumption of flaxseed oil. Subgroup analyses revealed significant changes in LDL-C, HDL-C, and TC levels only in trials utilizing a dosage higher than 10 g per day and using ground flaxseed oil. Based on the results, flaxseed oil improves CRP and TG levels, and higher doses positively affect lipid profiles. However, it has no significant effect on anthropometric measures.

BACKGROUND: The change of condyle position following orthognathic surgery affects the stability of treatments. This study aims to assess the correlation between the amount of condyles' position change and the severity of mandibular asymmetry following BSSO. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study. Subjects with asymmetric mandibular prognathism following BSSO were studied. Subjects were classified into 2 groups: group 1, subjects had mandibular asymmetry without occlusal cant and underwent BSSO. Group 2, subjects had mandibular asymmetry with occlusal cant and underwent BSSO+ Lefort I osteotomy. The condyle position was evaluated using cone-beam computer tomography (CBCT). Pearson's correlation test was used to assess any correlation between the condyle changes and the change in the mandible in sagittal and anterior-posterior directions. RESULTS: A total of 44 subjects were studied. In group 1, the condyle tilted outward in the deviated condyle and inward in the non-deviated condyle immediately after osteotomy. After 12 months, both condyles showed a rotation relative to the original position. In group 2, the condyles of the deviated sides and non-deviated sides moved inferiorly after surgery (condylar sagging), which was more significant in the non-deviated sides. The condyle rotation was similar to group 1. The severity of asymmetry and occlusal cant correlate with the condylar position change in the two groups. CONCLUSION: The severity of mandibular asymmetry correlates with the amount of condyles' position change immediately after BSSO. However, the condyles tend to return to their original position 12 months later.

Road traffic injuries present a significant public health burden, especially in developing countries. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized global evidence on motorcycle helmet use prevalence by including 299 records across 249 articles involving 5,006,476 participants from 1982 to 2022. The findings revealed a declining trend in helmet use prevalence over the past four decades, with an overall prevalence of 48.71%. The meta-regression analysis did not find any statistically significant change in the overall prevalence. Subgroup analysis showed higher helmet use prevalence in observation/survey records (54.29%) compared to crashed patient records (44.84%). Riders/Motorcyclists demonstrated a higher likelihood of wearing helmets than passengers in both observation/survey records (62.61 vs. 28.23%) and crashed patient records (47.76 vs. 26.61%). Countries with mandatory helmet use laws had higher helmet usage prevalence compared to those without (52.26 vs. 37.21%). The African continent had the lowest helmet use rates, while Latin America and the Caribbean regions had higher rates. This study provides a comprehensive overview of global helmet use prevalence, emphasizing disparities between high and low-income countries, variations in law enforcement, and trends over four decades. Targeted interventions are necessary to improve helmet-wearing habits, especially among passengers and regions with low usage rates. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) are highly conserved non-coding RNAs with a short length (18-24 nucleotides) that directly bind to a complementary sequence within 3'-untranslated regions of their target mRNAs and regulate gene expression, post-transcriptionally. They play crucial roles in diverse biological processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. In the context of cancer, miRNAs are key regulators of growth, angiogenesis, metastasis, and drug resistance. MAIN BODY: This review primarily focuses on miR-939 and its expanding roles and target genes in cancer pathogenesis. It compiles findings from various investigations. MiRNAs, due to their dysregulated expression in tumor environments, hold potential as cancer biomarkers. Several studies have highlighted the dysregulation of miR-939 expression in human cancers. CONCLUSION: Our study highlights the potential of miR-939 as a valuable target in cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. The aberrant expression of miR-939, along with other miRNAs, underscores their significance in advancing our understanding of cancer biology and their promise in personalized cancer care.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the correctness of the generated answers by Google Bard, GPT-3.5, GPT-4, Claude-Instant, and Bing chatbots to decision-making clinical questions in the oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) area. STUDY DESIGN: A group of 3 board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons designed a questionnaire with 50 case-based questions in multiple-choice and open-ended formats. Answers of chatbots to multiple-choice questions were examined against the chosen option by 3 referees. The chatbots' answers to the open-ended questions were evaluated based on the modified global quality scale. A P-value under .05 was considered significant. RESULTS: Bard, GPT-3.5, GPT-4, Claude-Instant, and Bing answered 34%, 36%, 38%, 38%, and 26% of the questions correctly, respectively. In open-ended questions, GPT-4 scored the most answers evaluated as grades "4" or "5," and Bing scored the most answers evaluated as grades "1" or "2." There were no statistically significant differences between the 5 chatbots in responding to the open-ended (P = .275) and multiple-choice (P = .699) questions. CONCLUSION: Considering the major inaccuracies in the responses of chatbots, despite their relatively good performance in answering open-ended questions, this technology yet cannot be trusted as a consultant for clinicians in decision-making situations.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a common disorder that is characterized by decreased bone density and increased bone resorption. This bone resorption may affect the grafted bone during the maxillofacial reconstruction. PURPOSE: This study aimed to measure the association between osteoporosis and resorption of anterior iliac crest bone grafts used to reconstruct the atrophic anterior maxillae. STUDY DESIGN, SETTING, SAMPLE: This prospective cohort study included female patients requiring bone augmentation of the anterior maxilla. Patients with a ridge width of <4 mm and ridge height of >7 mm were enrolled in the study. Exclusion criteria were chronic use of corticosteroids or intravenous bisphosphonates, history of maxillofacial radiation therapy, current smoking, and underlying conditions contributing to bone metabolism (eg, hyperparathyroidism, chronic renal failure, and hypophosphatemia). PREDICTOR/EXPOSURE/INDEPENDENT VARIABLE: Osteoporosis status was a predictor variable. Patients were allocated to the osteoporosis or control group based on T-scores obtained by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Mean T-scores ≤ -2.5 were assigned to the osteoporosis group. MAIN OUTCOME VARIABLE(S): The outcome variable was graft resorption, defined as the difference in ridge width between measurements made immediately (T1) and 6 months postoperatively (T2) using cone-beam computed tomography. COVARIATES: Patient age, preoperative (T0) bone width, and the amount of bone augmentation, defined as the differences in ridge width between measurements made preoperatively (T0) and immediately after grafting (T1), were covariates of this study. ANALYSES: Descriptive, analytic, and general linear models were computed. Statistical significance was set a P < .05. RESULTS: Thirty-two patients were included in the study (15 in the osteoporosis group and 17 in the control group). The amount of graft resorption at 6 months after grafting was 2.57 ± 0.59 mm in the osteoporosis group and 0.97 ± 0.59 mm in the control group (P < .001). A significant correlation was found between the mean T-score and graft resorption 6 months after grafting (P < .001). CONCLUSION AND RELEVANCE: A significant correlation was observed between osteoporosis and graft resorption in the anterior maxilla after 6 months.

STUDY DESIGN: Development and psychometrics study OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the reliability and validity of a new version of Appraisals of Post-Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury Health Scale (APTSCIHS) in the Persian language for persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). SETTING: The persons were selected from National Spinal Cord Injury Registry of Iran (NSCIR-IR) and Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Research center (BASIR). METHOD: This was a mixed sequential exploratory study that performed in two phases. In the qualitative phase, a systematic scoping review and 12 interviews with the participants were done. Finally, items were generated. In the quantitative phase, face, content, construct and convergent validity were assessed to evaluate validity. To evaluate construct validity, a cross-sectional study was conducted on 305 persons with TSCI along with internal consistency and stability assessments. All quantitative data analyses were conducted using SPSS 22 software. RESULTS: The content validity and reliability were indicated by Scale's Content Validity Ratio (S-CVR) = 0.73 and Scale's Content Validity Index (S-CVI) = 0.86, Cronbach's α = 0.9 and the Test re-test reliability using intra-class correlations were (ICC) = 0.97 to 0.98. Exploratory factor analysis determined eight factors which showed more than 52% of the variance. APTSCIHS had a significant and strong correlation with Appraisals of DisAbility Primary and Secondary Scale (ADAPSS) (r = 0.475, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Results showed the 36 items APTSCIHS tool had an acceptable validity and reliability in Iran, and it can help health care providers or even administrators improve the quality of the rehabilitation services and quality of life.

BACKGROUND: Oxidative stress after ischemic stroke contribute to neuronal cell injury. Unhealthy and unbalanced dietary patterns can increase the risk of several diseases, including stroke and cardiometabolic ones. However, the association between dietary total antioxidant capacity (DTAC) of antioxidant and stroke is controversial. Our study aimed to establish a correlation between DTAC and its impact on the occurrence of stroke. METHODS: This nested case-control study included 79 stroke cases and 158 healthy controls. We used data from the Fasa Adults Cohort Study (FACS) comprising 10,035 individuals at baseline. To assess the nutritional status of each individual, a 125-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) has been used to evaluate their dietary habits and intakes over the past year. DTAC was calculated using the ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) international databases. The stroke was confirmed by an experienced neurologist using standard imaging methods. Conditional logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the association between DTAC and stroke. RESULTS: The assessment of DTAC revealed that there was no statistically significant distinction between cases (mean ± SD: 5.31 ± 2.65) and controls (5.16 ± 2.80) with a p-value of 0.95. Even after adjusting for the potentially important confounding factors such as age, sex, event time, energy intake, smoking, hypertension, and diabetes, the association remains non-significant (adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 1.06, 95% CI: 0.94, 1.20, p-value = 0.33). CONCLUSIONS: Our results did not confirm a significant link between DTAC and stroke risk. These findings emphasize the intricate interplay of factors influencing stroke risk and highlight the need for further research to unravel these relationships more comprehensively.
