RESUMEN

Cepan Cream has been applied in therapeutics for 20 years. This drug is used for topical treatment of burn scars and keloids as well as post-operative scars and contractures. Cepan produces a multidirectional effect. Cepan is well tolerated. Pharmacological property analysis of active ingredients, results of physical, biochemical studies and clinical estimation indicate that the evaluated preparation is both effective and safe. Lately, new information on Cepan effectiveness in eyelids inflammation caused by parasite Demodex folliculorum has been particulary interesting.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of preparations containing silver sulfathiazole, with or without cerium nitrate, on survival of Staphylococcus aureus. In the first step, sensitivity of the planctonic bacteria to the tested compounds was determined. Addition of cerium nitrate enhanced the antibacterial activity of silver sulfathiazole by 4 times, as evidenced by MIC and MBC values. For the estimation of antibacterial activity of the mentioned chemotherapeutic on attached bacteria in vitro model of an "infected wound" was applied. Sensitivity of bacteria attached to the dermis was lower than sensitivity of planctonic bacteria. Kinetics of the release of chemotherapeutic compounds incorporated into a collagen dressing was the most effective for the combination of silver sulfathiazole with cerium nitrate.

RESUMEN

Owing to its ability to regenerate epidermal cells Dexpanthenol (D-panthenol; chemically known as (+)-2,4-dihydroxy-N-(3-hydroxypropyl)-3,3-dimethylbutyramide) has found use for the treatment of patholytic ileus and postoperative distention. The purpose of research was to develop a gel containing dexpanthenol by monitoring the effect of various concentrations of a gelating agent on the activity of the ciliary apparatus. A system containing 2.5% of hydroxyethylcellulose was optimal for the preparation of the gel. Together with a formulation containing 5% of dexpanthenol, drops with equal concentration of the active compound were tested for comparison. Physical characteristics, such as osmotic pressure, acidity, density and viscosity of the preparation were determined as well as its microbiological sterility. The anti-inflammatory activity of the gel was determined following its topical application. Epidermal tests showed its good tolerance after topical application to the shaved skin of guinea pigs.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Vitamins B group are important ingredients of coenzymes. Provitamin B5 dexpanthenol is necessary in the processes of reconstruction of epithelium, has regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties. Objective of the study was to determine how the wounds of cornea and/or conjunctiva heal upon the application of D-panthenol/the medicine has been developed in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical University of Gdansk/. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The activity of the medicine was tested in 40 eyes in the test group, a 40 eyes in the control group did not receive D-panthenol. The degree of the objective and subjective symptoms was assessed. RESULTS: The differences between the two groups commenced on the second day following the operation. Better effects were observed in patients receiving D-panthenol. Congestion and oedema of conjunctiva withdrew, the edges of wounds demonstrated smoothness and better adherence. Subjective feelings improved. CONCLUSIONS: 1. Provitamin B5 contained in 5% drops and 5% gel of D-panthenol effectively accelerates the processes of healing the wounds of conjunctiva and cornea.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The objective of the study was, to determine whether the new medicine developed in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical University of Gdansk in the form of gel containing 5% of provitamin B5, was a good agent for applying into the contact surface of the Goldmann triple-mirror, while examining the retina. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 42 people were subject in the observation. 84 eyes, which had not been operated yet, were tested. One eye was examined by using the gel with provitamin B5/proper name D--panthenol/, the other eye by applying 3% methylcellulose. Congestion of conjunctiva, oedema and defects of cornea epithelium, and substance transparency as well as surface adherence were indicated. RESULTS: One obtained the statistical significance proving the lesser congestion effect, while applying D--panthenol. Better adherence of the preparation to the cornea surface and to the triple-mirror was noticed, which considerably improved the procedure of the very examination. D--panthenol protected and regenerated cornea epithelium. CONCLUSION: The gel containing provitamin B5 is a safe and convenient agent for application during the examination with a triple-mirror.

RESUMEN

The aim of the study was to determine the pharmaceutical availability of various ointment systems containing antirheumatic substances and to establish an optimal system for cutaneous application. Topical application permits elimination or at least reduction of side effects connected with oral administration. Three systems were evaluated: emulsion W/O (ointment), emulsion O/W (cream) and gel, all of them containing diclofenac sodium or indomethacin. The investigated systems are characterized by proper rheological parameters and long physicochemical stability. Studies on diclofenac and indomethacin pharmaceutical availability show a good release of the substances from cream and hydrogel bases, but a very poor release from the ointment base.

RESUMEN

Cepan Cream is used for the topical treatment of scars and keloids resulting from burns, post-operative scars, and contractures. Cepan Cream makes scars more elastic, softer and paler. Plant extracts, heparin and allantoin in Cepan act on the biochemical processes in the developing connective tissue, preventing the formation of hyperplastic scars. These active ingredients enhance swelling, softening and loosening of connective tissue. It exerts softening and smoothing action on indurated and hyperplastic scar tissue, improving collagen structure. It promotes tissue regeneration and reduces exuberant granulation. Cepan is well tolerated.
