RESUMEN

The study includes anthropometry of 172 young male, obtained data on the length and body mass, measured the transverse diameters of the shoulders and pelvis, various body types was identified by the J.M. Tanner sexual dimorphism index (andromorphic, mesomorphic, gynecomorphic). The chemiluminescent and bioluminescent study of saliva and blood was conducted in the examined young male. We studied the indicators of the antioxidant defense system under the influence of stress. The antioxidant status of saliva was determined using the H2O2-luminol-dependent chemiluminescence method. Data on the activity of NAD (P) -dependent dehydrogenases in blood lymphocytes was obtained from a bioluminescent method of research. Young male of andromorphic body type had large overall and transverse body sizes. Indicators of antioxidant protection of saliva and blood in men of adolescence, the body type of the sexual dimorphism index J.M. Tanner was different. The persons of the andromorphic body type differed in terms of chemiluminescence in comparison with the young male of gynecomorphic body type. The results of bioluminescent blood tests suggest a violation of the catabolic and anabolic processes of carbohydrate and fat metabolism in young men of mesomorphic and gynecomorphic body types. Indicators of the system of antioxidant protection of saliva and blood reflect the sexual characteristics of the body of young male and can be used as additional criteria for diagnosing sex inversion and assessing the risk of developing socially attributed diseases.

RESUMEN

For the first time, from the surface of the dikaryotic mycelium of the xylotrophic basidiomycete Grifola frondosa 0917 a lectin has been isolated with a molecular mass of 68 +/- 1 kDa, consisting of two subunits of 33-34 kDa each. The lectin is a hydrophilic glycoprotein with the protein : glycan ratio of 3 : 1. It exhibits high affinity to native rabbit erythrocytes and to human erythrocytes of the 0 blood group, but not to trypsin-treated ones. The hemagglutination (HA) caused by lectin was not blocked by any of the 25 tested mono-, di-, and amino sugars; it was also not blocked by some of glyco derivatives. Only 13.9 microg/ml of the homogeneous preparation of a polysaccharide, a linear D-rhamnan with the structure of the repetitive component --> 2)-beta-D-Rhap-(1 --> 3)-alpha-D-Rhap-(1 --> 3)-alpha-D-Rhap-(1 --> 2)-alpha-D-Rhap-(1 --> 2)-alpha-D-Rhap-(1 --> blocked hemagglutination completely. The analysis of the amino acid composition of the lectin showed the greatest percentage of amino acids with positively charged R groups, arginine, lysine, and histidine, as well as the complete absence of sulfur-containing amino acids, cysteine, and methionine. D-glucose and D-glucosamine were detected in the carbohydrate part.

RESUMEN

Processes of fluid exchange in the crystalline lens of the rabbit eye were investigated. The direction of movement of fluid in the crystalline lens was investigated from the movement of fluorescein by the method of "stopped diffusion". It has been found that the mechanism of fluid transport in the crystalline lens is active and is carried out by means of the Na-kappa-ATPase transport system. The energy necessary for the active transport of fluid inside the crystalline lens is in the range (1.5-6) x 10(-2) J. Owing to the active fluid transport, the pressure inside the crystalline lens constantly increases by 6 mm Hg. In rabbit's life-time, the movement of fluid in the crystalline lens occurs in the direction from the anterior to the posterior surface followed by the exit to vitreous humor.

RESUMEN

AIM: To examine anti-inflammatory effect of statins on outcomes of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The trial included 211 ACS patients without ST elevation at ECG. The patients were followed up for 180 days. The anti-inflammatory action was studied for 30 days. The patients were divided into two groups by the treatment: simvastatin 10 mg + aspirin 325 mg (104 patients, group 1) and simvastatin 40 mg + aspirin 325 mg (107 patients, group 2) for 30 days. RESULTS: Simvastatin in maximal dose lowed LDLP cholesterol from 101 +/- 9.8 to 72 +/- 3.3 mg/dl, in a minimal dose--from 104 +/- 11.3 to 81 +/- 2.1 mg/dl (p < 0.05). Only maximal dose simvastatin produced a significant reduction of C-reactive protein (CRP) to the disease day 14. The integral index including all cases of cardiovascular death +acute myocardial infarction+progressive angina+rehospitalization was 70 scores for group 1 and 137 for group 2 (p = 0.047). CONCLUSION: Use of simvastatin in ACS patients, initially normal level of LDLP cholesterol and elevated level of CRP produced a dose-dependent effect, alleviated inflammation and improved the disease course.

RESUMEN

The direction of fluid flow in rabbits was studied in vivo by the distribution of fluorescein in eye structures. Fluorescein was administered into the central part of the lens. Fluorescein migrated from the anterior to posterior surface of the lens and then appeared in the vitreous body. Fluorescein did not migrate to the anterior surface and did not appear in the anterior chamber of the eye.

RESUMEN

A comparative retrospective study was made to examine influence of replacement therapy by estradiol valeriate and climonorm on perimenopausal hypertension. The test group (25 hypertensive women) received climonorm for 6 months. Control women received hypotensive therapy. Lipid metabolism and risk of vascular events were assessed. The replacement therapy had a positive effect on lipid metabolism. Criteria of Mann-Whitney, Friedmann, Wilkinson and of chi 2 were made use of. The target arterial pressure was achieved only with hypotensive therapy which also diminished intensity of menopausal disorders. To determine individual policy, it is necessary to stratify risk of cardiovascular events. The best effect is achieved at combination of hypotensive therapy with replacement hormone treatment.

RESUMEN

The structure of harderian glands was studied using electron microscopy and histochemistry in six rodent species, including three Phodopus species. Based on the concept of cell morphotype it was shown that the harderian glands of the studied mammalian species are lipid-secreting and have secretory cells of the species specific morphotypes. The secretory cells are distinguished by the ultrastructural features not only between different genera, but also between different species of the same genus. The data obtained allow species identification according to the ultrastructure of secretory cells. The role of harderian glands in chemical communication was shown for the golden hamster (Mesocricetus auratus). Their secretory substance contains information about the sexual and species identity of animals.

RESUMEN

The Harderian gland and glands of the oral angle structure and processes of secretion in the common hamster have been studied under light and electron (scanning and transmission) microscopes. Both these glands were shown to be lipid-producing. Nevertheless, their epithelial cells differ in ultrastructure. The Harderian gland has tubulo-alveolar architecture and consists of two types of epithelial cells. The oral angle gland is acinar and contains differentiating cells of the third type. The possibility of synthesis of various lipids by these three types of cells is discussed.

RESUMEN

Examination of the Harderian gland structure of the Black Sea bottlenose dolphin, Tursiops truncatus ponticus, at macroscopic, microscopic, and electron microscopic levels shows significant sexual dimorphism. The epithelial cells of male and female glands are different cell types, capable of producing chemically different products. Secretory cells in both sexes contain secretion granules that produce a secretion consisting mainly of proteins and carbohydrates, but thought to be sex-specific in composition. The female glands also contain lipid secretion granules. It is suggested that in the bottlenose dolphin the Harderian gland functions to produce sexually distinct pheromones and may have other physiological activities, e.g., participating in local immunological or endocrine-related reactions.

RESUMEN

Literature data and the authors' results, concerning structural and functional peculiarities of all varieties of the cerebral neuroglia under effect of a cranial-cerebral trauma, neurotropic chemical products and oxygen insufficiency have been considered. Ideas that neuroglial reactions under the conditions mentioned are proved to be constant and in dependence of certain peculiarities of each case are either progressive or regressive. The reaction degree is mainly proportional to the disturbance power. Nevertheless, certain discrepancies (ariactivity including) can be observed; this is also determined by a combination of prerequisites and by a peculiarity of individual reactivity of the CNS. The greatest stability of astroglia has been stated. Possible variations in relation between changes of neurons and gliocytes are mentioned. Suggestions are made that diffuse-focal progressive reactions of macroglia under conditions of neurotoxicoses can be determined not by proliferation of cells, but by their migration.

RESUMEN

The structure and function of the intercorneocyte cement of the corneal layer of epidermis in mammals has been reviewed on the basis of the author's and published data. Two functions of the layer have been considered: a water-tight barrier and a desquamation. Chemical structure of the barrier has been characterized. Comparison of the barrier in water and terrestrial mammals suggest that the peculiarities of the barrier correlate with different pathways of keratinization. Factors that determine the adhesion have been described. The authors show the possibility to use natural models for studying the processes of keratinization and, in particular, functioning the intercellular compartment of the corneal layer.

RESUMEN

Quantitative and qualitative composition of gangliosides, sulfatides and cerebrosides were studied in normal state and in experimental brain edema by means of thin-layer chromatography. In the experimental edema content of mono- and disialogangliosides was decreased while tri- and tetrasialogangliosides were unaltered. Statistically distinct increase in content of sulfocerebrosides (sulfatide 1.2) was also detected in brain edema as compared with controls. At the same time, amount of cerebroside 2 was decreased, whereas increase in cerebroside I concentration was detected.

RESUMEN

Both the increasing and decreasing contents of vitamin A in rats induced a lowering of cell adhesion in the skin multilayer epithelium, and that of their packing density. However, the same stimulus did not alter cell adhesion in the small intestinal monolayer epithelium. The data obtained show that vitamin A may serve as a factor modulating intercellular adhesive interactions with tissue specificity.
