RESUMEN

Gastric metastasis by solid tumor cancer is a rare event. Concomitant metastases to other organs are frequent, so that this condition is often associated to a poor prognosis. Upper gastrointestinal bleeding and anemia are the most common presenting symptoms. We present the case of a 81 years old women previously treated for cervix carcinoma showing later a stomach metastasis. The patient is alive and disease free 39 months after salvage gastrectomy. A radical surgery in selected patients could be useful for symptom palliation and prolonged survival.

RESUMEN

Respiratory dysfunction remains one of the most common causes of death in patients with complicated Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of this study was to investigate pulmonary function in fluctuating PD patients during "on" and "off" states of the disease. We studied 12 fluctuating, non-smoking PD patients (H&Y stages 3-5) without a history of lung or cardiovascular disease; all patients underwent Hoehn and Yahr scale (H&Y) and Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS items 18-31) to evaluate extrapyramidal impairment, as well as pulmonary function tests (PFT) and arterial blood gas analyses to assess respiratory function. All evaluations were performed during a stable on state of disease and in an off state produced by 12 hours of therapy withdrawal. A restrictive pattern of flow-volume loop was observed both in on and off states of disease. In the off state, we found a significant worsening in both FEV1 and FVC; the FEV1/FVC ratio was unmodified. These results suggest a restrictive pattern of flow-volume loop in these patients.

RESUMEN

Unusual threshold effects are found theoretically in the frequency and intensity dependence of angular distributions produced by an elliptically polarized laser as well as in the elliptic dichroism parameter, which measures the asymmetry of the angular distribution.

RESUMEN

We predict photoelectron angular distributions for double ionization of Li- by both weak and intense ultrashort, linearly polarized laser pulses by direct numerical integration of the three-dimensional, time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Li- is treated as a two-active electron system. Near threshold, for low intensity we recover general features of angular distributions for one-photon double ionization. For the intense field (multiphoton) case, the photoelectron angular distribution changes significantly, particularly in directions parallel and perpendicular to the laser polarization axis.

RESUMEN

For VUV photon energies, detailed theoretical understanding of the photoionization process has been achieved for the case of a single electron ionized from one of the outer subshells of a closed-shell atom. This understanding is based qualitatively upon a few properties of realistic atomic central potentials and quantitatively upon a few distinct types of electronic interactions known generically as particle-hole interactions. Current theoretical research is mainly directed at understanding a broader class of atomic photoionization phenomena involving, e.g., open-shell atoms, electronic interactions not of the particle-hole class, real two-electron processes, and external electric and magnetic fields.

RESUMEN

The Republic of San Marino adopted a new Penal Code which came into force on Ist January 1975; it replaced the former one of 15th Sept. 1865. After having stated the typical aspects of the Penal Procedure System therein enforceable, the Authors examine the rules concerning criminal responsibility and the danger of committing new crimes. They point out and criticize the relevant contradictions. In explaining the measures regarding punishment and educational rehabilitation provided for by the San Marino's legal system, the Authors later consider them from a juridical and criminological viewpoint. If some reforms must be approved (for example: biopsychical inquiry on the charged person, probation, week-end imprisonments, fines according to the incomes of the condemned, etc.). the Authors stress that some legal provisions may appear useless and unrealistic when one considers the environmental conditions of the little Republic. The Authors conclude that Penal Procedure Law is not in accordance with Penal Law and, consequently, they hope that a new reform will be grounded on the needs arising from the crimes perpetrated in loco. It shall be, however, necessary to plan a co-ordination among the two Codes within a framework of de-criminalization of many acts which are now punishable as crime.
