RESUMEN

We here describe a patient with a tick bite in the areola mammae in 1953 followed by erythema migrans. Twenty years later, after another tick bite in the axillary skin, also followed by erythema migrans, a large lymphatic infiltrate developed in the mammary skin, when the margin of the erythema reached the areola. The infiltrate resolved within a year without any therapy. Borrelial DNA was detected by polymerase chain reaction in the paraffin blocks of the lymphatic skin infiltrate. The patient died 9 years later of generalized lymphoma. A similar monoclonal immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangement was detected both in the mammary skin lesion and in the lymphoma specimen.

RESUMEN

A solid-phase radioimmunoassay (RIA) using egg-grown purified Chlamydia trachomatis lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) serotypes L1, L2, and L3 as antigen was used to measure type-specific IgG and IgA antibodies in sera of 36 patients who had contracted LGV infection about 40 years ago. The RIA test gave compatible results with the standard microimmunofluorescence test, and by RIA it was possible to identify the infecting serotype in 30 out of 36 patients studied. In 28 cases this was L2 and in two cases L1. Each patient had IgG antibodies and most of them (80%) IgA antibodies to at least one of the LGV serotypes. The antibody titers were still high 40 years after the acute infection, being higher than in male patients with a recent chlamydial urethritis. Highest antibody titers were detected in LGV patients who had a severe disease with intestinal involvement.

RESUMEN

A report on a patient with familial benign chronic pemphigus, resistant to all conservative therapy, treated in several stages by surgical excision of the most affected areas and reconstruction with split skin grafts. The follow-up period of the treated sites varies from two to eight years. All grafted sites have remained totally asymptomatic and there has been no sign of recurrence. Outside the grafted areas the disease is still as active as before.
