RESUMEN

A series of copolymers of acrylamide (Am) with 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AmMPSA) and N-2-hydroxypropyl-methacrylamide (HPMA) with acrylic acid (AA) have been synthesized. Complexes of gentamycin in the base form with these polymers and dextran sulfate were obtained. It is established that both poly(AmMPCA) and its complex with gentamycin exhibit an antiviral activity in vitro against human A(H3N2) influenza virus and herpes simplex virus of type 1 (HSV-1). The HPMA-AA copolymer and its complex with gentamycin are only active against HSV-1. Complexes of gentamycin with the polyanions based on the Am derivatives and dextran sulfate showed a high level of antibacterial activity against four bacterial strains. All the polymers studied as well as their complexes with gentamycin demonstrated a low toxicity in vitro, which makes them promising for the creation of preparations with combined antiviral and antimicrobial properties.

RESUMEN

Modified and unmodified carbon fiber supports were treated with solutions of a polymer-gentamicin complex, possessing high antimicrobial activity and low toxicity. It was found that the antimicrobial activity of modified carbon fiber fabrics depended on the nature of the support and on the immobilization conditions. The highest antimicrobial activity was observed with phosphorus-containing carbon fiber ion exchanger in salt form.

RESUMEN

We have synthesized water-soluble complexes between the antiviral drug arbidol and polymer compounds with molecular masses of 19-31 kDa representing copolymers of acrylamide (AA) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AAMPS). The complexes are less toxic than arbidol and retain the high level of antiviral activity of this drug. The content of arbidol in the obtained complexes is within 26.4-32.1 mass%. The antiviral activity of the synthesized polymeric complexes against all studied viruses, including human epidemic influenza virus A (H3N2), bird highly pathogenic influenza virus A (H5N1), herpes type 1 virus (HSV-1), and adenovirus type III (AV-III) is comparable to the antiviral effect of nonmodified arbidol. The in vitro toxicity of the obtained complexes is about one order of magnitude lower than that of nonmodified arbidol; the pharmacological index, four times that of the initial low-molecular-weight drug. The synthesized water-soluble polymer complexes of arbidol can be useful in pharmacology since they can serve as the basis for new effective and safe parent antiviral substances and related formulations.

RESUMEN

The effect of synthetic water-soluble polymer with different structure on the appearance in SZNA mice of carcinogen-protein adducts (CPA) containing endogenous carcinogen, 3-oxyanthranilic acid (3-OAA), was investigated. CPA containing 3-OAA (3-OAA-CPA) were detected during the administration of 24 of 30 investigated polymers. The induction of 3-OAA-CPA and the character of their distribution in the organism (in all investigated tissues: serum, extracts of liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys tissues or in single tissues) depended on the chemical structure of polymers. It is concluded, that synthetic polymers represent potential cancerogenic danger, because their administration causes formation of 3-OAA-CPA in the organism of animals.

RESUMEN

By neutralization of copolymers of N-(2-hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide with acrylic acid and copolymers of N-vinylpyrrolidone with crotonic and p-crotonoylaminophenoxyacetic acids in the presence of gentamycin, water-soluble polymer salts containing from 10 to 25 mass% of gentamycin were obtained. These salts regardless of gentamycin content completely retain high level of antimicrobial activity of gentamycin against Staphylococcus spp. and Escherichia coli and are characterized by less (by more than one order of magnitude) acute toxicity.

RESUMEN

Water-soluble polymeric amide and azo derivatives of benzidine, based on the terpolymer N-vinylpyrrolidone-crotonic acid-p-crotonoylaminophenol, which possesses adjuvant activity, were synthesized. By means of a double diffusion reaction in agar and a complement-binding reaction it was found that immunization of rabbits with the benzidine-polymer antigens (with or without complete Freund's adjuvant) led to the formation of highly specific antibodies against the hapten benzidine. Sera from rabbits immunized with these conjugates of benzidine may thus be used for the detection of benzidine in the sera of workers exposed to this chemical.

RESUMEN

The antitumor and immunoadjuvant action of water-soluble N-vinylpyrrolidone co(ter)polymers of different chemical structure is studied. It is established that terpolymer N-vinyl-pyrrolidone (VP)--crotonic acid (CA)--n-crotonoylaminophenol inhibiting the growth of hepatoma 22a by 50-60% possesses an antitumoral action, while copolymer VP-CA has an immunoadjuvant action. These properties of co(ter)polymers are due to their chemical structure and molecular weight, but they do not always correlate between themselves.

RESUMEN

The formation of specific antibodies to benzidine under immunization of rabbits with conjugates obtained by joining benzidine through diazolinkage to vinylpyrrolidone therpolymer (VP) is shown possible. Data obtained demonstrate that blood serum of intact rabbits is able to participate in immunodiffusion reaction with copolymers and therpolymer VP making 1-2 precipitation lines. However, this ability is lost after benzidine linkage, which indicates the possible loss of immunological specificity by macromolecules after interaction between carcinogens and their determinant groups.

RESUMEN

The fungistatic activity of merthiolate and its two polymerous derivatives have been investigated using as test cultures fungi producing deterioration. The fungicides sorbtion dynamics by the fungus micelium have been studied, toxicity and inhibition rate of the catalase from different sources have been evaluated. The polymerous derivatives have been found to maintain high fungistatic activity of merthiolate, but possess less toxicity. The sorbtion of the polymerous derivative by the fungal mycelium takes place more effectively than the merthiolate sorbtion. The probable reasons of the high activity of the merthiolate polymerous derivatives are under discussion.

RESUMEN

The study of the effect of synthetic polyelectrolites of the cationic type on benzylpenicillin resistant staphylococci showed that the cation polyelectrolites induced changes in the cell membrane permeability and increased penicillin absorption by the cells thus increasing sensitivity of the penicillin-resistant staphylococci to the antibiotic. Low inhibitory effect of the polyelectrolites with respect to penicillinase and hyaluronidase was shown. Changes in the membrane apparatus of staphylococcus cells due to the effect of polyelectrolites were found.
