RESUMEN

Prophylactics of surgical infections is one of the principal problems in using any surgical method, the method of transosseous osteosynthesis included. Preventive treatment is considered to be one of possible ways to decrease the number of pyo-inflammatory complications. However, unjustified antibiotic therapy gives a negative effect and is often followed by side reactions and complications. This experimental investigation presents grounds for using the method of prophylactics of pyo-inflammatory complications in the area of wires in treatment by the method of extrafocal compressive-distractive osteosynthesis with a new generation probiotic "Sporobacterin liquid".

RESUMEN

Hybrid heliocomposites were used for repair of the carious tooth crown. Ultrastructural study of mucosa biopsy specimens from sites adjacent to the filling 3 weeks after treatment showed that Charisma, Herculite, and Esterfil Ca filling materials led to degenerative changes in the mucosa, while Filtek Z-250 heliocomposite caused no pathological changes in the gingiva at the site of contact.

RESUMEN

Surgical and biopsy material from 76 patients who had been working for a long time at Orenburg gas-processing factory was investigated. Group 1 consisted of 36 workers with classic lymphocytic colitis. Group 2 (40 men) had diarrhea with blood, pains in the abdomen, loss of weight, ulcers at colonoscopy, atypical variants of lymphocytic colitis at colonoscopy. These variants may result in the ulceration leading to inevitable surgery.

RESUMEN

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is widely spread among population. While immunocompetent patients suffer rarely from this virus, it can lead to a lethal outcome in immunocompromised patients. An electron microscopic study has detected fibroblastic morphological changes of a definite cytodestructive character. The nuclei of some fibroblasts have chromatine condensation. A clear zone arising due to vacuolization near this inclusion may reflect nuclear rearrangement leading to further CMV metamorphosis of the cell. This metamorphosis is characteristic of the changes developing in the cells of different parenchymatous organs.

RESUMEN

Naloxone hydrochloride, an opioid receptors blocker, was administered to chick embryos. Morphological analysis of femoral bones of embryos showed an appreciable increase in the thickness of the perichondral bone cuff in the tubular bone diaphyses and increased mitotic activity in the zone of proliferating young cartilage of the epiphyseal plate.

RESUMEN

Pathomorphologic characteristics of cytomegalovirus (CMV) lung damage in 18 patients who died of HIV infection are outlined. The following variants of lung lesions are distinguished: 1) CMV transformation of the cells in the respiratory compartments and tracts; 2) pneumonias with development of caverns with CMV transformed cells; 3) productive CMV alveolitis with granuloma formation; 4) pulmonary fibrosis and "adenomatosis" associated with CMV infection; 5) CMV transformed cells in secondary lesions--tumours and infections. Heterogeneous number and distribution of CMV cells at early stages, tumours and purulent foci were documented in CMV infections of the lungs.

RESUMEN

Two cases of generalized cryptococcosis in patients who died of HIV infection are described. The course of the disease was masked by other diseases and final diagnosis was established after necropsy. Leukemia was a clinical "mask" in one case and generalized tuberculosis in the other. Numerous cryptococci were found in different organs histologically with positive Shiff-reaction. Ultrastructurally, cryptococci were of variable forms this probably reflecting different stages of interaction between microorganisms and the host.

RESUMEN

Morphological equivalents of hepatocyte response to environmental factors of various intensity, associated with biochemical processes and directed at cell survival were studied in white outbred male rat using morphological (light and electron microscopy, histoautoradiography) and biochemical methods. As judged by the responses of intracellular structures, an exposure to hydrogen sulfide-containing gas, a pathogenic environmental factor, results in unequal changes in hepatocytes in different lobule zones. Small doses cause an activation of metabolic processes in hepatocytes that have plastic directivity. High doses of hydrogen sulfide-containing gas mixture result in the appearance of some signs of hepatocyte adaptation to extreme situation. Positive dynamics of structural modifications of the liver after the administration of nootropil and vitamin complex with antioxidant properties as correcting substances, indicates the reversibility of hepatocyte changes following long-term (up to two weeks) exposure to low doses and short-term exposure to high doses of hydrogen sulfide-containing gas mixture.

RESUMEN

We studied the effect of natural gas from Astrakhan' gas field on rat brain. The study revealed a specific effect of natural H(2)S-containing gas on myelin sheaths in the brain, which determines its neurotoxicity even at low concentrations in the inspired air.

RESUMEN

Grave destructive changes of myelin nerve fibers in the cortex of the cerebral hemispheres were found in rats intoxicated with hydrogen sulfide gas of the Astrakhan gas deposit. Repeated exposures to natural hydrogen sulfide containing gas in subacute chronic intoxication (100 mg/m3 by H2S) damage predominantly myelin areas corresponding to myelin incisions which are most sensitive to this gas.

RESUMEN

In experimental animals exposed to hydrogen sulfide-containing gas, electron microscopic study of cerebral cortex indicated the variability in the reaction of layer V neurons: along with neurons demonstrating irreversible damage, some cells with single signs of alteration were found. The reaction of different types of glial cells was also non-uniform. During initial 12 h following single exposure, oligodendrocytes showed the signs of intensified endocytosis. Following repeated exposures, severe destructive changes were found in myelinated nerve fibers and in single neurons, in which the karyolysis and cytoplasmic swelling were observed.

RESUMEN

We studied ultrastructural and morphometric characteristics of nerve cells and myelinated fibers in the cerebral cortex after chronic exposure to natural gas containing hydrogen sulfide in low concentrations. Radioisotope assay revealed activation of protein synthesis in nerve cells after chronic exposure to natural hydrogen sulfide-containing gas in low concentrations (10 mg/m(3)by H2S) for 2 weeks. After 1 month the ultrastructure of myelinated fibers was characterized by sectorial loosening and demyelination.

RESUMEN

Experiments were made on 40 immature guinea--pigs which were divided into two groups. 20 animals received intraduodenal injections of cholera toxin and 20 others were injected normal saline (groups I and II, respectively). Group I animals exhibited a rapid fall in one--cell secretion of XS recorded on hour 6-12 after the injection of cholera toxin. Inhibition of functional activity was associated with defected synthesis of granules in the cells of Paneth.
